Ladies, there’s no better time than the new year to hit refresh on your style! Just because we’re over 50 doesn’t mean we can’t stay fun, fashionable, and fabulous. Let’s make fashion something we look forward to instead of something that feels overwhelming. I’ve put together five easy style resolutions for 2025 to help you feel confident and stylish all year long!

5 Style Resolutions for Women Over 50 in 2025

Style Resolution #1: Upgrade Your Denim Collection

The right pair of jeans can make you feel like a million bucks, so why not give your denim collection a little refresh this year? Start with the fit—because nothing’s better than jeans that hug you in all the right places. High-rise and straight-leg styles are universally flattering, but don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try wide-leg or cropped options. You might just find a new favorite!

Take your time trying on different cuts and washes until you find the ones that feel just right. And don’t skip over the details—pocket placement can do wonders for how your jeans look on you. If the length isn’t quite perfect, no worries! Get them hemmed or cuffed to achieve that polished look we all love.

When in doubt, start with a classic dark wash. It’s slimming, versatile, and works for almost any occasion. And don’t forget about your shoes! Your denim should complement your footwear, not compete with it. Whether it’s sneakers, booties, or heels, the right jeans-and-shoe combo can take your outfit to the next level.

Style Resolution #2: Clean Out Your Closet and Curate Your Wardrobe

Ladies, it’s time to tackle that closet! Maybe it’s bursting at the seams, or you’ve got things you haven’t worn in years. Either way, let’s get serious about cleaning out the clutter and keeping what actually works for your lifestyle!

Start by pulling everything out of your closet—yes, everything! Make three piles: keep, donate, and repair. If you haven’t worn it in the past year, it’s time to let it go. Trust me, even if you once loved it, you won’t miss it once it’s gone.

Now that you’ve pared things down, focus on curating a wardrobe that works for you. A few timeless basics will be your foundation—think pieces you can mix and match effortlessly. Then, add in some fun, trendy items to keep things feeling fresh and modern. And remember, fit is everything! Go for fabrics and cuts that make you feel fabulous and confident.

To keep your hard work from going to waste, treat yourself to matching hangers (they really do make a difference!) and some storage bins for off-season items. Make it a habit to do a quick closet refresh every few months. Staying organized means you’ll always have outfits ready to go when life gets busy!

You can find even more of my tips, tricks, and favorite organization tools over in this post.

Style Resolution #3: Focus on Tailoring and Proportions

Your clothes should work for you, not against you! This year, make it a goal to befriend your local tailor. A few simple tweaks—hemming pants, nipping in a blazer, or shortening sleeves—can take an outfit from “meh” to “wow” in no time. Trust me, the difference is like night and day!

Proportions are key when putting together a polished look. Balance is your best friend! Wide-leg pants? Pair them with a fitted top. Flowy blouse? Try slim pants or a pencil skirt to keep the look balanced. It’s all about creating that effortless harmony in your outfits.

And when it comes to shopping, don’t settle for a so-so fit just because it’s on sale. Pick pieces that flatter your shape, and if they’re not quite perfect, invest in tailoring. It’s worth every penny, and you’ll feel so much more confident knowing your clothes fit you like a dream!

Style Resolution #4 Elevate Your Accessories Game

Now, let’s talk all about accessories! They’re the easiest way to transform an outfit, so let’s resolve to give those finishing touches a little more love this year. First, tackle what you’ve already got. Organize your stash and see where you might have a few gaps—this way, you’ll know exactly what you need (and what you don’t!). I have a few of my tips on how to organize your jewelry here.

Invest in pieces you can wear with just about anything. Classic hoop earrings, structured handbags, and silk scarves are timeless and oh-so-versatile. And don’t forget about belts! They can add that perfect polished touch to dresses or even cinch in a coat for a whole new vibe.

Feeling hesitant about bold pieces? Start small. A chunky necklace or oversized earrings paired with a neutral outfit is a great way to dip your toes into the statement accessory pool. Remember, accessories aren’t just about adding style—they’re about showing off your personality. So have fun with it, and don’t be afraid to experiment!

I LOVE accessories, and you can find some of very favorite pieces of jewelry in these posts:

Style Resolution #5: Refresh Your Shoe Collection

Shoes really are the foundation of every outfit! The start of the new year is the perfect time to take stock of your collection and make sure your shoes are not only stylish but also comfortable. Start by assessing the pairs you reach for most. If they’re looking a little worse for wear or leave your feet begging for mercy, it’s time to replace them.

When shopping, look for styles that blend fashion with function. Block heels, loafers, and ankle boots are wardrobe workhorses you can wear every day. For those dressier moments, try metallic flats or embellished heels to add a touch of sparkle and sophistication.

Comfort is non-negotiable, so keep an eye out for cushioned insoles, arch support, and any other features that keep your feet happy. And don’t forget about shoe care! Regularly polish your leather pairs and give your suede shoes a quick spritz with a water-resistant spray. A little TLC will help your favorite pairs last longer and keep you looking fabulous from head to toe!

We talk a lot about shoes around here! Here are a few of my favorite shoe posts:

Not long ago you posted about a moisturizer that you had your mother try. I cannot find that post. Can you post it again or send me the link please? Thank you!

  2. I’m a little late to the party, but Talbots is my favorite. Looking forward to following you for another year!

  3. Janelle B says:

My favorite places to shop this year have been Talbots, Chicos, JJill, and Nordstrom. I also get some pieces at Kohls. JJill is back on my “good list” again because their clothing has started appealing to me after a period of finding nothing I liked, so yay!

  8. Lori Pruitte says:

I love your suggestions for cleaning out the closet. I just purged mine but I said anything over 3 years now I’m going to go back through the closets and purge some more. Happy new Year!

  9. Dear Tania,

Thank you so much for your fashion blog…really enjoy it every day. My two favorite retailers are Chicos as I always know what size will fit me (mostly) and I have a store near me where I can return if need be and Amazon as there are so many choices and easy returns. Happy New Year to you and your family!

  10. 5 Style Resolutions that are good advice. Now to actually dig in and complete the tasks!
I often have good luck shopping at a Belk Department Store or Marshall’s.

I do struggle with ordering clothes online…there is something about feeling the fabric, trying it on, knowing the quality before buying the items. Therefore, I appreciate your suggestions on various pieces of clothing or shoes that are available online.

  11. Elizabeth Ty says:

I do a lot of online shopping – I like Nordstrom, the rack, J. Crew, and Rue La La. I am a big fan of TJ Maxx and Marshalls. – Good prices and often unique items.

  12. Uniqlo is a favorite of mine and I have never seen you mention them.

  13. Phyllis R. says:

At the age of 82, I still like to look nice and prefer a classic, but casual appearance. I like Talbots and JJill but also Applebee’s online.

  14. Leah Hagedorn says:

Favorite retailer: Tied. Talbots’s and J.Jill.

Love your blog, Tania. Happy New Year to you and Joe!

  15. Most of my clothes are Chicos or Talbots, although Talbots are becoming more and more appealing as I’m leaning toward traditional styles these days.

  16. 5 great style resolutions, need to do all especially donating clothing that I haven’t worn for a year!!
    I shop mostly Macy’s, Dillards, Penny’s, Marshall’s, Kohls (all have ‘s’??!).
Really appreciate your try-ons and suggestions!
    Happy New Year!

  17. Debra Cagle says:

I love your blog! My favorite retail place to buy clothing is Marshall’s. Like what girl doesn’t like bargains?!? I also have pretty good luck with Maurice’s.

  18. I love your blog!
I started following 3 blogs about 10 years ago, yours was one
Pleasse let me thank you for wearing CLOTHES I am so tired of seeing “athletic wear”, and “raw edge jeans, huge flares, tee shirts. Put some thought into it please ladies.
I love seeing the thought you put into your choices, and how well you coordinate many different clothing lines, from so many stores. It’s wonderful, and very refreshing.
    Keep it up
Seeing your family and hearing your stories is a treat as well.

  19. Hi Tania. Thanks so much for your posts—really helpful. I shop at Talbots most often, closely followed by JJill and Chicos. Thanks again!

  20. Eileen Crowe says:

I look forward to your shopping tips which are always fashionable, but you definitely had an excellent idea on organization. Namely, the jewelry storage choices which featured a vast selection of sizes, prices, and beautifully functional! Keep up the good work for you are appreciated.

  21. T.J. Maxx, and Walmart, and Amazon. I used to go to Beall’s and half my clothes are from Steinmart. I really miss Steinmart.

  22. Hi Tania! Happy New Year! I love the clothes from Amazon, Walmart, TJ Maxx, Marshalls. A good bargain excites me. The higher end clothes although nice are just over the top for me with a child in college and bills to pay. $200 for a pair of Jeans is not necessary for the average person. It costs that much to go to grocery store each week. But, as a blogger you need to have variety that meets everyone’s preferences which I am sure is a challenge. So, just keep doing what you are doing because it works! That is why we keep reading your posts!

  23. Mary Carol says:

I love ordering online from Amazon and Walmart. So much easier than searching in a store. Thank you for all of the helpful suggestions. My closet is definitely due for a massive makeover.

  24. I live in a small town, but we do have a Belk’s and Penney’s. I try to patronize them whenever I can. I also do a good bit of online shopping with Belk’s. I also online shop with Talbots, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic Factory. I love Kendra Scott jewelry and Vionic shoes.

  25. I love all your post. I do most of my shopping at Beall’s. I also like Kohls, Belk, Amazon and Walmart.

  26. I love Talbots because of the variety of sizing. I also like looking through Nordstroms and I have been known to buy pieces at JC Penney’s and Kohl ‘s. Enjoy you. Wish you a Happy New Year!!

  27. Happy New Year Tania!! I shop at Talbots, Chicos and Macys mostly. I will only order from stores who offer free returns. I will not order from a store if I have to pay to return an item. My favorite thing to do is shop at consignment stores. They have a wide variety of brands, colors and styles in one place. Some of my favorite items have come from consignment stores. I would love to see posts on Spring wedding dresses. My son is getting married and I need a formal dress and a rehearsal dinner dress.

  28. Julie Feagins says:

I shop in a rotation of Chicos, The Rack, J Crew/Factory, and Nordstrom. I love your blog!

  29. J. Jill is my favorite clothing retailer…Love their knit clothes…esp the dresses….I live in Mn and it is hard for me to be in style in the winter….I follow you each day…my first time to comment…Happy New Year!!!!

  30. JJill, Chicos, Athleta and Amazon. I love this blog post! Just what I needed to spur me on to pare down my clothes. And thank you for your verses of the day – I always appreciate them.

  31. Hi Tania,
I was not sure where you wanted us to let you where we like to shop for clothes, but lately I have been finding more things I like at Ann Taylor. I also find a lot at Talbots. But, in the back of my mind, I am starting to think about finding more natural materials to wear on my body, including silk, wool, cotton, linen, and also tencel and lyocell (which are from eucalyptus I believe). Ann Taylor has a lot of polyester items, especially their beautiful blouses, and I seem to perspire so much more when I wear polyester. I know the natural fiber clothes are more expensive but they last much longer. I have started ordering a few things from Quince, and some things work, but they do not carry petites, so dresses from them are out for me. I recently bought some sweaters and the sleeves are very long because they are not petite, so I roll the cuffs. Petite would be better. Thank you for all you do, and Happy New Year to you, Joe, and all of your family.

  32. Happy New Year Tania!!! I’m retired and an outdoors enthusiast; hiking, biking, pickleball, etc. So primarily I live in casual clothes like Eddie Bauer for hiking or from REI and TJ Maxx/Marshalls for leggings and tops. Boutiques for nicer pieces or Banana Republic Factory.

  33. I love shopping at J. Crew and GAP. Thank you for all the work you do to bring us great fashion!
Your sense of humor (especially when talking about Joe) is really funny and enjoyable!

  34. I shop a lot at Kohl’s. Your Amazon finds are great so I buy from there too.
Marshals is hit or miss but I like browsing around.

  35. Over the past two years I’ve been buying more at Old Navy. They have the best T-shirts, sweaters and jeans. Also, Amazon and Macys. Walmart has really upped their game. I like places I can easily return things with no return shipping.

  36. Ginger Yost says:

    Tania,
Happy New Year! My favorite store is Talbots. Their clothes fit me well and are trendy whether you are working outside the home or retired like me.
Thank you for show casing Talbots clothes often.
    Ginger Yost

  37. Kathleen Claar says:

My number one favorite place to shop is J Jill with Chicos as my second. Really enjoy your blog!

  38. Gayle Davis says:

Living in the country and in a small county, there aren’t many good shopping places! I mostly shop at Belks in person and Amazon online!

  39. Jenniffer says:

Happy New Year! I shop mostly online as we don’t have a lot of stores where I live. Gap and Amazon are my top picks.

  40. Started my year with the blog!
I love to shop at Talbots. Also like the Loft, Belk
Will check out J Jill and Chicos
    Target a good choice

  41. Kellie johnson says:

I tend to find dresses and jeans – crop and ankle at
chicos. Amazon for shirts and some dresses and macys for more traditional or classic pieces.

  42. Cathy from Louisiana says:

Amazon though not necessarily by choice. We live in a rural area with few selections. Since Amazon allows shipping and returns, on a fixed income, this is a best option. I enjoy your posts and positive attitude. Thank you for sharing options for a variety of income budgets.

  43. My favorite places to shop are online at Nordstrom, Amazon, and Walmart. All make returns easy. I really look forward to your blog, hearing about your family and spiritual things.

  44. Deborah M says:

I primarily shop at Talbots because of the large selection of Petite size merchandise. I have been a loyal Talbot’s customer for more than 25 years. I love your blog… it’s like having a personal shopper at my fingertips. I also enjoy the daily scripture verses and the Sunday faith based thoughts and prayer.

  45. Love your recommendations for a refresh. I reorganized my jewelry into velvet trays and got rid of the junk jewelry. Makes things so much easier to find and helps me appreciate the pieces I have. Love to shop at Chicos and Coldwater Creek because they have talls.

  46. Love your blog. My favorite stores to shop are Chicos and Marshall’s and Amazon.

    Happy New Year!!

  47. Since I am petite, sometimes it is hard to wear clothes that you are featuring. I, do, love Talbots and Belk.

  48. I noticed that you have your sweaters on the hangars you recommend. I usually fold my sweaters so I don’t get bumps in the shoulder area but it would be so much easier to hang them. Do these hangars keep the bumps from coming? Thanks!

    1. I rarely have a sweater get the bumps. If I get one, I wet the area, and then dry it with my blow dryer.

  49. Great resolutions! As a petite woman, many of my clothes need alterations. It makes all the difference. I always say to people that my tailor is my BFF. LOL! As for shoes, good point, anything that isn’t comfortable should go. I have had a pair of dress heels for years, but the last time I wore them, they didn’t feel good on. I will try them one more time. If they still hurt, out they will go! Happy New Year!

  50. Talbots, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Chicos, Columbia Sportswear

  51. My favorite place is Chicos, followed closely by Nordstrom and J Jill!

  52. Thanks for all the good reminders for beginning this year. I shop mostly sale items at Nordstrom, Talbot’s, Loft and Amazon. I would love to shop mainly at the top high end places but you and other influencers give good budget options with Amazon. Bless you for that!
I have a question I hope you will answer – if I follow a link on your blog to buy and I don’t buy it just then, but put it in save for later, and then a few days or weeks go by, and then I order it, do you still get commission?

    1. Penny Jo, thanks for asking about the cookies. It is something I’ll actually address on tomorrow’s blog email, that way everyone will get the information.

  53. as a retired image consultant and stylist on a budget, I love finding the gems from Walmart and Amazon. You do a great job of that and I appreciate your legwork on our behalf! It’s hard to do, and you gotta “kiss alot of frogs,” but you manage to find “princes” in both Amazon and Walmart that are fashionable, well priced, and actually well-made. Price is no longer an indicator of quality. Just read the reviews from Talbot’s, for instance, about decline in quality over the last several years. Sadly, most of our fashion comes from China these days and quality varies greatly…regardless of where you buy it.

  54. Kathleen O'Brien says:

Happy New Year! I often shop at JJill. My second would be TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

  55. Happy New Year!! I loved your verse for today. I mainly shop at Kohl’s and have recently purchased a new coat from Duluth’s for our walks in the park. I enjoy your blog every day.

  56. Holly Porter says:

Lately it has been Walmart Avia athletic wear

  57. Laura Garrett says:

While I appreciate the elegance of Chico’s clothing, I find myself shopping there less and less since I’ve retired. I love the casual looks from J Jill, Loft and Talbots. And I even find cute basics at Sam’s and Costco on occasion, although it’s a random selection. I really love the try-on hauls with your assistant, since I’m somewhere in between the size of you and Megan. Always fun to see! And let’s not forget Amazon for so many amazing finds. Thank you for all you do, Tania. You are a blessing to me! Happiest New Year to you and your family.

  58. Linda Grimm says:

My favorite stores are Nordstrom and J Crew.

  59. Gay Craig says:

    Happy New Year!
I shop at TJ Maxx and Amazon. There are several local small boutiques where I also purchase items. For special occasions and good shoes, I shop at Dillard’s.

  60. Aimee Spencer says:

I will read your Post everyday in 2025! My two favorite stores
are Kohl’s and then Walmart. I used to shop at Nordstrom and the Rack in San Diego. But I retired and moved to Florida. Now I love your Blog so I can keep up with Fashion! It’s the best!

    1. I love that resolution!!!

  61. Happy New Year to you and your lovely family! I like Chicos, Macy’s, Kohl’, Loft, J Crew. All the ones you already show us. I’m definitely opened to some new stores.

  62. Anna Jorge says:

Happy 2025! I like Walmart and TJMaxx.

  63. My favorite places to buy clothes are Amazon and Nordstrom because we have moved about 45 minutes from stores and both Nordstrom and Amazon have free shipping and returns.

  64. My favorite store has been Talbots for many years but the quality of their clothing has diminished and their sizing by become inconsistent. The same style pant in different colors is often not the same size.
I also like J Jill and Nordstrom

  65. As a Canadian I used to buy from Cleo, Suzannes, The Bay. But I find myself gravitating to smaller local boutiques, that are still reasonably priced. Due to the fact that I find the quality is better. I did buy some of the leggings that you suggested off of Amazon which I do like.

  66. White House Black Market, Talbot, jjill

  67. Favorite retailer: Talbots, Madewell

  68. Nordstrom. Loft. Evereve

  69. My favorite retailers are Evereve, Talbots, Nordstrom and Athleta. Thank you for all your great posts throughout the year. You always put a smile on my face!

  70. Happy New Year Tania!! I love your blog! My favorite is Talbots, but I also like JCrew Factory and Macys.

  71. Cindy Brooks Prock says:

    I like Nordstrom’s. And Macy’s.

  72. Joanne Stacey says:

My favorite brand is still Talbots. I wore professional clothing in my career. Now that I have retired, I wear their jeans, shirts and puffer vest. I still look neat and put together!

  73. The first thing I do every morning is throw on some clothes and let my three rescues out to potty and check out the yard. It gets me up and love it!

I’m in my late 70s so I have all the basics, but I need. White blouse(Chicos has the one I want) I need a good dress coat(Dillards is having a sale today). And I am in dire need of low heeled shoes in a narrow width.

Most of my closet is either Susan Graver (QVC) or Diane Gilman jeans (HSN)

Locally I shop at Dillards, Kohls, J C Penny, Marshall’s and Talbots.

  74. Karen Nau says:

Happy New Year from Northern California. Favorites are Macy’s and Nordstrom’s. But I have champagne taste on a Beer budget, so I shop sales and use my shopper points for discounts. Retired teacher, elected official, I have to wear “business casual” now. Thank you for all your helpful tips.

  75. Macy’s, Talbots and Chico’s

  76. I like Jjill and Talbots, but they are pricey. Would like to see more retailers who offer petite sizes. They are hard to find, even for basics like a sweatshirt and sweatpants.

  77. Happy New Year Tania 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you for another truly amazing year of inspiring blogs, ideas, effort and photos. I am certainly looking forward to continuing reading your wonderful blog in 2025. 🇨🇰🥳💕

  78. I tend to shop Talbots most often … it’s classic as well as relaxed! It’s been well constructed clothing & I pray they keep that it that way! I’ve also been eyeing J. McLaughlin who has stylish classic well made pieces.

  79. Happy New Year!
Current favorite retailers are: J Jill and Athleta

  80. Talbots, Athleta and Chicos

    1. I like Walmart and TJMaxx

  81. Penelope Bolf says:

I need a new favorite place! I loved New York & Company for business wear but since they closed their stores and are solely online, I find less everyday options. Their basics selection is none existent. I still like their suiting options and loved when they carried Brands We Love. I enjoy your blog posts to see different brands.

  82. Thanks for the great tips! I’ve been a loyal Talbots customer since 1999. Wishing you blessings in this new year!

  83. Nancy Moss says:

My favorite store to shop is Chicos. Their clothes fit, and they usually have what I need.

  84. Leslie Daulton says:

I LOVE Belks! They have a range of prices from designer to their more affordable brands like Wonderly. They are always offering great sales especially if you have their credit card which i highly recommend.

  85. Happy 2025! I love J McLaughlin, Chicos, Athleta and Nordstrom.

  86. Favorite places to shop for clothing
    Nordstrom
    Talbots
    Everlane
    Eileen Fisher online

  87. My favorite retailer is Chicos!

  88. Thanks for the reminder to clean out/organize closets, jewelry, and shoes!

  89. I mostly shop at J Jill. I also buy at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
    happy New Year to all!

  90. My favorite store is Coldwater Creek but they’re above my price range unless something is on a super clearance. My other store is J Jill but the same thing they’re way above my price range unless they’re on super clearance. So therefore I usually shop at JCPenney because they’re more in my price range. Have a happy lovely New Year and God bless you and your family.

  91. Happy New Year! Talbots and Goodwill are my two favorite retailers for clothes. I can count on Talbots for fit and style, and Goodwill has some interesting pieces occasionally and fun accessories such as purses and scarves.

  92. Elaine Haynes says:

Thanks Tania and Happy New Year. Enjoyed the article. My favorite retailers are Talbots, JJill and Dillards. Also sometimes Chicos. Love the try in hauls and enjoy seeing your assistant with you for a different perspective.

  93. The retailers I shop the most at are JCrew factory, Loft, Old Navy, and Gap factory. They have good sales, discount coupons and rewards all within my budget. They also carry petite sizes. I also have pretty figured out my sizing with those retailers. I feel ordering from them I won’t have to return. I do like Quince because their Xs-mall tops do fit me. My style resolution is think before I buy. I go through my closet all the time. I just added some pants that don’t fit. All great tips in your post.

    1. I forgot to add that for shoes I buy from QVC and DSW. However locally this past year I bought several nice leather shoes at Marshall’s. I shop locally at Marshall’s, and Kohl’s. Also Target and Walmart. There’s not much shopping options in my town.

  94. My favorite retailers are Talbots and LL Bean. Happy New Year to you and your family.

  95. Tania, firstly Happy and blessed New Year to you and yours!
I love to shop at Loft and anywhere that has petites and TJ Maxx and Marshalls! I do admit that I don’t invest in classic pieces instead love to stay current with the styles. I would love to change that though! I have loved following you on your blog and especially love your love for Jesus!
    Blessings,

  96. Bonnie Kammeyer says:

Most of my clothes come from KOHLS. . I live in an area where most most major stores have closed.

  97. Michele in SC says:

Happy New Year! My top favorite stores are Nordstrom (and the Rack), Evereve, and White House Black Market. I also do a lot of shopping on Thred Up and other thrift stores – great places to score nice pieces at excellent prices. Thanks for some excellent closet resolutions for 2025!

  98. Cheryll Sampson says:

I shop mostly at Chico’s, Talbot or Amazon! I love your try on sessions especially as seasons change. I love purses and shoes. Retirement has changed the way I dress. I love getting new information.

  99. All great tips! Thanks.

  100. I shop at J Jill, Chico’s, Talbot’s, and Dillard’s (good petite department) mostly. I have to say, though, that I buy most often from J Jill. They carry petites, have a huge selection, and have great sales. I also read your blog each day and have ordered many items that you’ve shown in “try-ons”. Keep doing what you’re doing!

  101. Happy New Year! I love your blog, and get many great tips and ideas. My favorite is “Chicos” and Amazon, since I do like to order things online. It’s so much better than driving everywhere only to not find it in a brick and mortar store anyways ..And yes, I am going to work on cleaning out my closets!!

  102. My favorite stores to shop at are Talbots & Dillards.

  103. Barb🇨🇦 says:

As i live in Calgary, I prefer brands easily source in Canada like the old navy line and talbots. Happy New Year!

  104. Happy New Year! My favorite retailers are Nordstrom and Banana Republic.

  105. Connie R. says:

Happy New Years! Talbots is the store I love! A loved them so much that after retiring from full time job I took a part time job with them!

  106. Karen Lyon says:

I’m 76 years young and I love clothes, shoes, jewellery and accessories. I buy most of my clothes at Talbots and have for years. I find fun pieces at Marshall’s and many small shops. Many of my shoe purchases are at Marshall’s but in the summer, I only wear Mephisto sandals. I have at least 12 pair, all different colurs but mostly the Helen style. When I turned 70, I made a resolution to purge 1 item a day. I started out with clothing but now I do a mixture of clothing and house items. I am still doing this 6 years later!

  107. Happy and Blessed New Year! 💗 Kohls, Walmart, amazon, Gap

  108. I shop at Nordstrom, Loft, Athleta(fitness wear) and Talbots, though their quality and fit has been sad the last year or two.

  109. Lori Duncan says:

Love the chocolate brown sweater and skirt!
I’m 5’2” but weigh ore than I’d like so I wear a petite XL. Talbots carries a great line of petites.
Jjill also has a lot of things that fit well. Their Petite Large is what I wear.
I carry my weight in my middle so I’ve learned to distract that part!
I would love more posts on apple shape body styles!

  110. Tanya, These are such good suggestions. I definitely need to “clean out” my closet. I have such a difficult getting rid of anything that is in good condition, especially clothing that I “once loved”. Thank you for the inspiration.

  111. Amanda Lockhart says:

Happy new year. Thanks for all your hard work.
I mainly shop Kohl’s, JcPennys Marshall’s and TJMax. As they are in my budget. Things I like from J Crew and Ann Tayler are just too expensive, so I watch Amazon for look alikes.

  112. Jill and Lucky Brand. Happy New Year, Tania!

  113. New to the blog and loving it! I did find you via a late night Duck,Duck, Go search for fashion over 50.
My favorite places to shop are Marshall’s and TJ Maxx – you never know what you will find! I also shop Lane Bryant, Torrid, and Amazon plus size stores (Avenue, Ulla Popken, and Catherine’s.) For a splurge I like the T by Talbots line.

  114. My favorite retailers are Talbots, JJill, and recently have gone back to Ann Taylor. Happy New Year!

  115. My favorite retailers are Evereve and Loft.

  116. Happy New Year!

My favorite stores to shop are Loft, Talbots, Macy’s, Old Navy and occasionally Nordstrom.
Love when you do try on hauls from these places.

You are inspiring me to go clean my closet—-it could really use it. It looks like I have so many things but I don’t wear half of them.

  117. Barbara Edwards Armacost says:

    And J Crew too!!

  118. Hi, Tania! My favorite places to shop are LOFT and Ann Taylor :).

  119. it would not be an exaggeration to say that my closet is at least 80% Talbots. The fit and quality are always great. I am just under 5 ft tall so the fact that they always have a good selection of petite is a huge factor as well. I have been able to purchase a few sweaters this season at other vendors due to the fact that some are offering them in 21 and 22 inch length. This is because it is a current trend though – not because they finally realize sweaters that curl around the behind is very unattractive. For some reason, that seems to never occur to them. Nevertheless, I am getting all I can while they are here.
I love your blog, inspiration and heart for what you do. 💖
    Thank you!

  120. Barbara Edwards Armacost says:

This is a great post on how to go into the New Year with a better wardrobe!! Personally I like to shop at White House Black Market, Talbots and Ann Taylor but I also find good items at Walmart. Thanks for all the great tips on updating our wardrobes. Happy New Year !!

  121. My favorite retailers right now are Nordstrom and White House Black Market.

    Happy New Year!

  122. I mainly shop at Talbots.

  123. I shop at , Loft , JCrew factory, Macys, H&M ,Zara, Tjmaxx, I wear petites and juniors size wise. Since petites are bought less for stores, I go to many places to find what fits, and online. Shoes , Nordstrom if possible, they have the best return policy . Uniglo for packable down, Smartwool for socks. Ecco and Nike for sneakers.
I return so much because of fit , it’s almost easier to go to a store!
When I vacation in Italy, I buy up, their clothes and shoes are much better quality.

  124. Happy New Year. I do read your blog regularly but often don’t comment. But I wanted to respond to your question. I do like J. Crew, Talbots and Chicos. I find them affordable and I like their styles.

  125. Happy New Year to you and your family!! My current favorite store is J Jill. I love that most of their clothing is available in petites which fit me the best. I also like Loft especially Lou and Grey. That line offers comfortable casual clothing which is my go to since I’m retired. I do wish more stores carried petite. I’d love some feedback on petite clothing brands at Amazon. I read your blogs daily and I truly enjoy your feedback on clothing, accessories, home items, and I love when you talk about your family. I look forward to your insights in 2025!

  126. I love J Jill! Happy New Year!!!

  127. Jackie N. says:

Happy new year! It’s a beautiful 1st day of 2025 in my hometown! 🌞 Your style resolutions are “spot on”… #2 is my main goal, and hopefully, all the others will fall into place. 😊 To answer your question about where your readers mainly buy clothing: Belk is my go-to retailer… love their classic, Southern preppy styles. (Belk and Cato are the only “true” women’s clothing stores in my small town, and I shop at both.) For online shopping, I mainly go to Amazon – especially when YOU suggest an Amazon item in your blogs!😊

  128. Kerry Daugherty says:

I love shopping at JJill. The majority of my wardrobe comes from there. If you can be patient, everything goes on sale and some of their sales are bananas!

  129. I love Loft and JCrew. Happy New Year!

  130. Thank you! I like to shop at Gap and Loft.

  131. Kimberly W says:

I’ve had a few new places I’ve become obsessed with shopping! Express has become a favorite; their jeans fit beautifully and feel like my favorite old worn in pair from the minute I try them on. Also have really been enjoying Fabletics for their very comfy, cozy & soft loungewear and workout wear.

  132. I shop at JJill a lot. There’s a women’s clothing store that carries a lot of name brands. I really miss having a major department store close. We lost my favorite Bergners then Macys.

  133. Happy New Year, Tanya, to you and your Family.
If anyone can remember the DressBarn Stores, this was my go to. The best fitting Jeans ever! Since they closed their Doors, I am lost. I don’t have a specific Retail Store to go to and purchase what I need wherever I can find it.
I shop online now at “Ulla Popken” which is the German Version of Dress Barn for me.
Since it is hot and humid here in Louisiana, I shop for my Outdoor Jackets and Summer Pants at Bass Pro. I like Macy’s for dressy Clothes.
And for me , the best fitting Dresses for Summer are “Karina Dresses”, they are made in the US and reasonable priced. They are also ” wash and wear”; no dry cleaning or ironing.

  134. Happy New Year Tanya🎊
I love your blog and look forward to reading it every day!
I shop mostly at JJill, Nordstrom and QVC.

  135. I love your posts. I read them everyday. They are fun and informative. I’m not sure that you need to change a thing. Thank you for the day brightner.

  136. Talbots is always my go to! Happy New Year!

  137. I like to shop at JC Penney, Macy’s, and Talbots.

  138. Chico’s all the way. My closet is 98% Chico’s clothes

  139. I love to shop at Loft J Jill Talbots and Chicos. I share your blog with all my girlfriends!!!!

  140. My favorite places to shop are: Marshall’s, TJMaxx , & Nordstrom Rack. I’m definitely going to tackle my closet and donate some pieces that I need to part with. Thank you for a fresh look at fashion. Happy New Year!

  141. Sherry Grundman says:

Chicos is my go-to for stylish, mature clothing. For everyday I’ve found a few things on Amazon. I also like to check out Talbots, JJill, and Soft Surroundings before they switched to catalog shopping only.

Love this post. But, ugh, cleaning out my closet is so hard! There is always that pesky thought of ‘I might wear that…’

  142. Melissa Walker says:

favorite stores: Target, Boden, Madewell, Rab, Prana, Barbour

  143. My favorite retailers for clothing is Chicos, Macys and Lands End.

  144. I shared your blog with my Sister, fav retail store is Mauricies. & great options here, I need to get busy busy!

  145. Ginger Hiller says:

What a perfect scripture for starting a new year. My favorite retailers are: Nordstrom, Belk, Old Navy, and Kohl’s. I do need to spend some time in my closet, but I won’t do that until after I have all of our Christmas decor put away and necessary paperwork done.

  146. Happy New Year!
You asked for a favorite retailer and mine is Dillards. I find clothing that fits well in that store, ie Code Blue & Democracy for jeans, Intro for pull-on shorts /skirts, Donna Karan pajamas and leisure and Chantelle for bras.
I enjoy reading your daily blog.
    Thanks

  147. JCrew and JCrew factory are my first pick. I am always pleased that the low price point at factory and still a high quality JCrew product. I have shopped them for my entire adult life, and have some items for much longer than I should admit. Always classic styles, come in talls, and the quality is there.
    Happy New Year!

  148. Meta Guin says:

Happy New Year! My daughter and her family spent the night in Abington on their way home to Maryland. The house is too quiet! I read your blog every day! I am now shopping more at Talbots than Chico’s.

  149. Jan Canapp says:

Great fashion resolutions to start a new year. As for my favorite retailer, it’s gotta be Talbots.
Happy New Year to you, Joe and your family.

  150. I wanted to add that Ann Taylor and Talbots use very nice, lovely fabrics for shorts. It looks almost like polished cotton, which I think looks a bit more upscale.Further I would like to say if it doesn’t have some stretch in the fabric, I won’t buy it. Ann has a beautiful striped blouse right now and it is 100% cotton which is a deal breaker for me. I buy a few things – dresses, pants, handbags in White House Black Market. I play tennis so spend a ton of money of tennis outfits. I liked your idea of writing on the calendar walking so I bought some nice activewear leggings in Talbots the other day. They are not as heavy as some I had from Talbots. Still have side pockets for phone, keys.

  151. My favorite clothes retailer is Ann Taylor, followed by Talbots. I am tall and carry my height in my legs. I need 12 Tall or Long in slacks. I like ankle length pants and need 31” inseam – 31.5 works a bit better so many times I visit my tailor. Not every pair of pants is available in Tall which is disappointing. I bought quite a few nice things in J. Jill this fall. She makes petites, plus and tall in everything. I shop Macy’s for bras and panties, J. C. Penney for Liz Claiborne pjs. Liz jeans regulars fit like a glove in 10regular. I live in Florida so like Tommy Bahama every now and then. I think I keep the U. S. Economy going on my clothes buying. I spend

  152. Kathy Laweryson says:

Happy New Year! Whoohoo!!! Love your suggestions here – my closet surely needs refreshing. To answer your question, my favorite store to shop at is Kohl’s, bearing in mind there are not many brick and mortar stores to shop at in my area. I do buy alot online, mostly Amazon.

  153. Happy New Year, Tania!🎉 My favorite retailers for clothes are: J.Crew, J. Crew Factory, Banana Republic, Banana Republic Factory, Nordstrom, T. J. Max, J. Jill, Target, Loft, Ann Taylor, Quince and Lands’ End. This is a great question. It’s fun to see what others say.

  154. Happy New Year!!
My favorite stores to shop are Ann Taylor/Loft and Talbots. Both stores have wonderful sales and good quality. I have recently discovered White House Black Market and am impressed by their classic styling.

  155. Dana Smithmier says:

Happy New Year🎉🎉. My favorites are Chicos, Loft and Talbots!

  156. Great blog today. Cleaned my closet and just purchase some denim from J Crew Factory and Loft. Other stores would be Ann Taylor and Nordstrom. Thanks for your inspiration and I enjoy Sunday’s with you as well. Happy New Year!

  157. Happy 2025 Tania and readers!
My fav stores are Nordstrom & GAP Factory. Looking forward to another year of great fashion.

  158. Talbots is my favorite place to shop for clothes. Happy New Year!

  159. Bridgette M says:

Happy New Year, Tania! I have been reading your blog for a few years and enjoy your fashion advice and suggestions! Sunday posts are also a favorite. They always seem to resonate with me and just wanted to say Thank You for sharing your faith and showing us how you make your faith a priority!
My go to store this past year would be Banana Republic Factory Outlet. I have liked their style, quality has been good and their pricing has been in check. However, I would have never picked up Vionic shoes at Walmart if it wasn’t for your blog! So thank you for keeping us informed of those items being available at Walmart online. Who’d have known!!

  160. J Crew Factory and Nordstrom are my two go to places to shop right now. Love your blog! Happy New Year!

  161. Sheila Sanders says:

Good ideas for the new year. My favorite retailers are Nordstrom, Evereve, and Walmart. Haha Talk about a mixed bag.

  162. Talbots, Athleta, Evereve, and Nordstrom are my favorites.

  163. I purchase my clothes from Talbots. I wear cool tones so color is very important to me. I only buy colors in my color wheel. I love accessories in those colors as well. I love this post because I love to organize not only my clothes but my entire house. I also enjoy decorating for the major Holidays. I love your blog and look forward to 2025

  164. Love your posts. Talbots is my favorite retailer.

  165. My favorite places to shop right now are Talbots and Chicos. I just started shopping at Talbots this year because of your blog. They seem more expensive, but they have good sales.

  166. Judy Fisher says:

Chicos is my favorite place to shop because their petite sizing especially length fits me perfectly!

  167. Roberta Schwandner says:

Happy New Year. I plan on going through my clothes and donating many of the ones I haven’t worn in a long time.

  168. Sally Fluck says:

Three of my favorite places to shop are Ralph Lauren, Garnet Hill and J Jill.

  169. Happy New Year, Tanya! I buy most of my clothes from Talbots. They have a great collection of petites, good quality, and classic style.

  170. Happy New Year! My style resolution is to spend less time in my fitness wear. Since retiring, I am fortunate to spend 1/2 of my daily routine being active (gym, walks, yoga, pickleball) but I have a tendency to then not change back into regular clothes, particularly if I’m just staying home. However, I really do like dressing more classic-chic when I go out to dinner/have an appointment/shop/celebrate birthdays and holidays.

The brand I see most in my closet is Talbot’s (including workout wear), Sonoma (their petite, bootcut jeans are so soft!) and, for workouts, Lululemon and Athleta. But I’m open-minded and have clothes from lots of the other brands you mention here.

Keep the great posts coming! I love the try-ons!

  171. Terry Dupree says:

My go-to is always Talbots; however, their styling gets very repetitive with the same cable sweater tweaked a bit from year to year, etc. but I feel “put together” because their design department does such a great job of coordinating all the new pieces from season to season. Plus they have exceptional sales and a wonderful customer loyalty program.

  172. Vicki Lynn Werley says:

    Happy New Year Tania!!

My favorite store is Talbots. I am petite and I could always find something to buy at Talbots. Chicos will be my second store.

  173. Virginia weaver says:

What a joy it is to read your blogs.
Off to a great start for the new year.
    Blessings.

  174. Kohls is my favorite place to shop, also J Crew and Talbots

  175. Carol Brockmann says:

chicos is one of my favorites

  176. Lisa Barnum says:

Thank you for helping with my new style choices, but I sure would like to go thru your donate pile!

  177. Happy New Year Tania to you and your family. I enjoy your post each day and will pass it on to friends. My favorite retailer is Talbots. I love their clothing and that they are size inclusive. They also have great sales. Thank you for all your hard work!!

  178. Happy New Year! I love reading your blog! As for where I like to shop the most, I would have to say Loft. I usually find wonderful sweaters and tops and the ladies that work in my local store are really sweet and helpful. I decided a few months ago to wander into the nearby Talbot’s, J.Jill and Chico’s but their clothes were both too expensive and not my style. I have seen the outfits that you wear from these stores and they look wonderful on you, so I thought that I would give them a try. But, I just didn’t see anything that caught my eye. I do have to say that the people that work in the above stores were not nearly as nice and friendly as in Loft. I also have had pretty good luck shopping on Amazon and at Kohl’s.

  179. I left one off my favorites
    Chicos

  180. I was never a big Amazon shopper but from your posts I have found some lots of items I like from following you.
    Kohls
    Amazon
    Ann Taylor
    Talbots

  181. Linda Shearer says:

Thank You for this post. I already cleaned out my closet and it feels so good. I bought the storage boxes but now maybe I need to get some hangers and not just use cleaner hangers. Lol.

My two favorite retailers are Dillards and Chicos. Also I recently purchased some Judy Blue Jeans and love them.

  182. My favorite place to shop is Chicos and Talbots. Of course also TJ Maxx and Marshalls lol.

  183. Susan Stacey says:

My favorite stores to shop are:
    Ann Taylor
    Talbots
    Chico’s
    J Jill
    Dillard
I’m also always on the look for small boutique shops in search of different pieces. I try to keep my style a bit unique but age appropriate.

Hope this helps you, Happy New Year.

  184. Susan Anderson says:

Happy New Year! Lately, my favorite retailers have been Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, and Amazon. I haven’t had a lot of luck at Kohls and haven’t stepped foot in a Macy’s for a long time. I’m completely lost in a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack. I do get my bras from Soma (balconette).

  185. love your daily blog!
I like to shop at JJill & Chico’s.
    for reference, I’m 65.
    thx!

  186. Mary Duffy says:

My favorite retailers are Gap Factory, J Crew Factory and Vineyard Vines.

  187. My favorite retailers are Talbots, JJill and J Crew, but not necessarily in that order. 😊. I read your posts everyday!

  188. Happy New Year Tania! I like to shop at Loft and Ann Taylor, when I was younger and my career was taking off, I loved to shop at Casual Corner! I was heartbroken when they closed.

    1. Oh, wow! Thank you for the trip down retail memory lane 😄I used to shop there too and felt the same way when they closed. Does anyone remember Gertz or Sterns or Abraham and Strauss?

  189. Alison Hollowell says:

I didn’t see a place to comment on the main email so I’m sharing here. My favorite place to shop for fashion is QVC! I love the variety of brands & price points. Returns are easy if something doesn’t work out. My favorite brands are Kim Gravel, Anybody, NYDJ, LOGO, Denim &Co and Susan Graver. Dennis Basso is great for coats.

  190. Happy New Year!🥳
    I absolutely love your blog!
My favourite retailer to shop is Lululemon, mostly for comfort and simplicity. Aritzia is a close second when looking for dressier clothing.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

  191. Ann Browning says:

    Have a blessed new year!
I shop at an outdoor store, j Jill , loft, Talbots.

  192. My favorite retailers are Lily Silk and Sezane. Happy new year from Germany Petra

  193. Stephanie B says:

Probably my favorite place to shop for clothes is Chico’s. But I also like 2 or 3 brands on QVC. You have turned me on to Amazon clothing especially their basic or essential items.
I hope you have a blessed & Happy New Year.

  194. Happy New Year! My favorite retailers would be Ann Taylor for my work attire and the Loft for more casual. I like the Talbots catalogs and it’s fun to look thru them but am often underwhelmed when I put them on and so high priced. I have trouble with the fit at Chicos and Talbots for some reason. My 2 cents worth for the New Year.

    1. I mostly shop at J Jill. I also buy at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
      happy New Year to all!

  195. Happy New Year! Talbot’s is my favorite go to store since I’m a petite. Wishing you JOY and BLESSINGS for 2025.

  196. Happy New Year Tania! My favorite place to shop is J Crew Factory…their clothes fit well and they are trendy but still manage to be classic at an affordable price point.

  197. Susan Mitchell says:

I love Belk and ordering from Amazon.

  198. My favorite retailer is JJill. I can almost always fine something stylish for this 54-year-old that also fits my changing body type.

    Happy New Year!

  199. Greatly enjoy your blog!

  200. Talbots, Nordstrom and Loft. Happy New Year

  201. Barb Standridge says:

I think 98% of my clothing purchases come from Amazon! LOL. Including bras and underwear! These are great resolutions and I’ll be keeping them in mind as I’m cleaning my closet today!

  202. Jcrew outlet is my go-to

  203. Aside from the Navy Exchange (which carries a variety of brands, including their own), the store I purchase most of my clothes from is probably Nordstrom’s–I love the free shipping and the return policy. I mostly have to purchase shoes for my wide foot online at Nordstrom’s, but sometimes I try on the medium width in the store to gauge how the shoe looks, knowing I will need the wide. I used to shop at Ann Taylor and Talbot’s, but just have not been buying many clothes except for casual looks.

  204. The Closet message hits me right between the eyes. I organize mine and a month later it is a mess again. I have “Christmas” clothes that I have washed and are waiting to be put away. When I do those, I need to tackle the bigger issue.

My favorite retailer has changed over time. I used to shop at Dillard’s, when I worked full time. Especially when they used to do their extra 40% off sale prices, pre-Covid. Now, I tend to shop online and TALBOTS is my go to. I like how you can earn Style points and get $25 to use later. They have great sales.

  205. GAP (jeans and sweats), Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Madewell, Talbots, Loft, Chicos

  206. Nancy Steinke says:

I am doing the 5 things for my closet this year. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry so that one is already done. We live in a small town, so my favorite places to shop are Walmart and Beall’s. I also shop the thrift stores for expensive clothing at fantastic prices.

  207. angelagrafe@web.de says:

good morning! Frohes neues Jahr ! love your blog – thanks for your very good Job!
Retailer : Talbots, Ann Taylor, Dillards – when visiting the States

    Viele Grüße
    Angela

  208. Happy New Year! For the past nearly 18 years my husband and I are Little Caesars franchise owners and wearing cute clothes daily is basically non existent. When I DO have the opportunity to venture out of the daily grind, I lean towards comfort. Jeans, sweater and low heel or flat shoes/boots. Most of my purchases have been Amazon based on your recommendation. I LOVE a few online boutique retailers I have found like Charming & Main(for the Judy Blue jeans) My brick and mortar go to is Chicos Off the Rack or Nordstrom Rack.

Hoping you and Joe have a blessed 2025
    xo
    Michele

  209. Wendy Hoff says:

    Tania,
I have been reading your blog for years and years. I love your style. I have a lot of favorite retailers. It really depends on what I am buying. Classics is always Jcrew and Talbots. Something a little unique and fun is Chicos. I still like Banana Republic but don’t gravitate towards them as much as I used to. For athletic wear, I love Athleta. I find I can wear their clothes to work out and then run errands. For purses, I go to my neighborhood boutique to purchase either vegan leather or genuine leather purses. She has so many pretty and fun styles. For shoes, either Nordstrom or my local shoe store. Jewelry is generally my fine jewelry but if I want to really go for something super fun, hands down, I shop Chicos.
Can’t wait to see where your blog takes you in 2025.

  210. Good morning! Happy New Year! I look forward to your blog in 2025!
My favorite places to shop are.. Chicos, I can usually find things I like there, including jewelry. Also Macy’s and Dillard’s have a nice selection of clothes. Small boutique shops with different brands are fun to shop too!

  211. Love everything in this post, starting off the new year great!
