It’s time to talk about one of my favorite subjects- shoes! Finding the perfect blend of style and comfort can be tough, especially when it comes to footwear. I want to look good, but I don’t want to be in pain all day. And there are days when it’s mostly about comfort, but I don’t want to look frumpy! Not sure where to start? No worries! Today, I’m sharing some of the best block heels for women over 50.

Block heels offer a stylish solution. Whether dressing up for a special occasion or just looking to elevate your everyday look, the right pair of block heels can make all the difference. These heels are typically chunky with a wide shape, offering more stability and comfort compared to stilettos or other narrow heels.

These Vionic Ankle Straps Heeled Sandals are perfect for a dressy occasion. They are comfortable, and the chunky heel makes the sandals stable and easy to walk in. That is especially important if you are walking on grass. I also LOVE the velcro closure! No more standing on your head trying to get a buckle fastened. Lol!

For some reason, when I first started hearing about block heels, I envisioned ugly, non-fashionable clod-hoppers. As you can see, I was WRONG! I wanted to show you how they can be worn with dressy outfits and don’t look like heavy work boots at all. Lol!

For some reason, I rarely wear black shoes. The only pair that I wear often are Coach Black Pumps, and I love those with a passion. These block heel shoes are much easier to walk in than the pumps and look equally as nice with dresses, shorts, and jeans. They don’t have a pointy toe like the pumps, but other than that, I like this a lot.

The Best Block Heels for Women Over 50 – Nordstrom

Let’s start with a classic pair from Nordstrom! These cute pumps come in Nude, Black, and Cream and are made from smooth leather that looks super stylish. They have an almond-shaped toe and an elastic slingback strap, so they fit comfortably and securely.

The angled block heel gives you some height without making it hard to walk. Whether you’re dressing up for a special event or just going out for the day, these pumps will look great with anything from dresses to jeans. They fit true to size and are perfect for any occasion!

Aren’t these pretty?! These would look great with a dress or a nice pair of jeans. Available in Raffia and Tan Leather, they have a rounded toe and a chunky block heel that’s not only stylish but easy to walk in. With a 3 1/4″ heel, these shoes give you a little extra height without sacrificing stability. Steve Madden is a great brand, and these are VERY chic.

Want a high heel without teetering on stilettos? These breezy sandals from Chinese Laundry come in Black, Dark Rose, and Light Gold. The sleek buckle strap at the ankle keeps them from sliding and adds a cute touch. With a 3 1/4″ heel, you’ll get a boost of height without losing comfort. They run true to size and are perfect for a ton of occasions, so order away!

I LOVE Franco Sarto. I typically shop for this brand at Nordstrom, so I was happy to find it on Amazon. These chic slingback pumps come in a TON of colors, including Beige Nude Leather, Brown Herringbone, Champagne Satin, and even plaid! With a modern block heel and a pointed toe, they are very feminine. The heel is a little shorter at 2.25 inches, so if high heels are a pain, these are for you. These pumps are great for the office, parties, or any occasion where you want to look and feel fabulous.

Here’s another great shoe brand – Naturalizer! These sandals come in awesome colors like dark gold metallic, espresso, and vintage mauve. The 2 3/8-inch block heel gives you just the right amount of height without sacrificing comfort, thanks to Naturalizer’s “Contour+ technology.”

I don’t know what it means, but I know Naturalizer shoes are always very comfy! Made from great materials like leather and suede, they’re built to last for several seasons.

Loafers are on trend, but to be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of flats. I wear them, but I prefer a little oomph. Voila! Bandolino offers a stylish twist on this classic! These pumps feature fringe and polished bit hardware, giving them a chic, “loafer-inspired” look. Made from glossy patent faux leather, they come in Black, Ivory, and Deep Red. This is a shoe that says I mean business! Under $100 dollars and they fit true to size

Have you heard of the Larroudé brand? It has taken OVER Instagram over the past two years. Its founder, Marina Larroudé, and her husband, Ricardo, both lost their jobs during the pandemic. Marina had previously worked at Barneys and Style.com, so she decided to launch a shoe line. Now they are huge! One of their big focuses is comfort. Yay!

These sandals feature beautiful eyelet embroidery and a woven block heel that screams warm-weather chic. Available in a natural color, they have an adjustable ankle strap with a buckle closure and hidden elastic inset. With a comfy 2 1/4″ heel and memory foam cushioning, you’ll be fine wearing them all day long. They are a little pricy but should last for years to come.

For a slightly more affordable option, these block-heeled slides are a great choice! These cute sandals feature two straps and a flared block heel and are in a neutral color that would go with everything. The large buckle is a nice detail! These run slightly small, and they don’t have half sizes, so order appropriately.

Last but not least, are these gorgeous slides from Madewell! These sandals would make any outfit look chic. They come in stylish colors like True Black, Desert Camel, Apple Butter, and Ecru. This brown option is the only one that’s textured, so check out the other gorgeous versions at the link. These have a full leather upper and run true to size.

Let me know in the comments how you feel about the chunky heel trend. As you can guess, I’m a fan!

I love these. They look elegant and polished and you can walk without teetering. I wouldn’t hesitate to wear some of these to an outdoor event. Fabulous!!!

  2. These are all great options even though I can only wear flats. Trail mix is one of my favorites too. I would add some chopped coconut to that mix. So good!

  3. Tanya, I like to add M&Ms, chocolate covered raisins, and cashews to the Omega 3 trail mix! Delish!

    1. Nancy, that would make it irresistible.

  4. Sue koren says:

I’m so glad block heels are in style. Way more comfortable than spiky heels!

Love these shoes!! They look so comfortable!!

  6. If I could wear them, I would be a big fan of block heels. I have a problem with my balance so I have had to give up my heels.

    1. Yikes, you be careful.

  9. I feel so much more comfortable wearing a block heel- these are all great

  10. I’m a fan of Franco Sarto as well. chunky heals are very popular and I like them a lot .

  11. The block heels are good choice for practical purposes of balance and comfort when walking on uneven surfaces. To me they do not give the look of lengthening the leg. Comfort or looks? Always a conundrum.

    1. Mimi, I think they can lengthen the legs because of the added height of the heel.

  12. I’m not a fan of the block heel.
You look amazing. How are you keeping your weight off?

    1. Mary Ann, I’ve gained about 5 pounds, so I’m not doing a very good job.

  13. Cute shoes. I love a block heel. They are so much more comfortable and easier to walk in over a traditional heel. I enjoy apples and peanut butter.

  14. Vicki from Oklahoma says:

Shoes are my favorite. I’ll take one of each! Lol

  15. The Roni Keira sandals are gorgeous! The other colors available don’t have the woven upper , so I love the color you’ve shown. Beautiful!

  16. Karen Johnson says:

I wear chunky heels and really like them. Better yet I have the two midi skirt and crop top from amazon in my cart. It’s so cute. I love black but think I’ll breakout of my comfort zone and get red. It’s so cute

  17. I love block heels too. My favorite snack is dark chocolate almonds from Natural Grocers. They’re sort of healthy as Natural Grocers is very selective on what ingredients are in the products they sell. The sugar is the bad thing though but so good. My taste buds have changed. Regular candy doesn’t appeal to me anymore unless I am real hungry and I’m somewhere it’s being offered.

  18. Block heels are my favorite!! These are cute cute!!

  19. oh Tania! You must be my soul mate!!! Nutty Buddys are my all-time favorite!!! I can’t justify buying them after my daughter moved out, but I do stare them down when I’m grocery shopping… I love some of these styles you have shown! Happy Thursday❤❤❤

    1. Alison, I already knew we were soul mates. Lol! It has now been confirmed!

  20. Stella Gustafson says:

It’s funny how when you get older you move away from certain shoes but I do admit I would wear some of these

  21. My favorite healthy snack is trail mix, but with some sort of chocolate in it.
I love all the block heel shoes! Thanks for sharing.

  22. Cheryll Sampson says:

Love the block heels for their stability and ease in walking. I wore them when they were fashionable in times past and enjoyed them especially when I still worked. My feet did not hurt at the end of the day.

  23. Jenniffer Groski says:

    I really like the slides!

  24. I have a pair that looks just like the first ones. They are so comfortable! Plus I like how they look. So, I guess I’m a fan. Lol.

  25. I love the chunky heel trend. It feels so much more stable to walk in than a kitten heel. I try to only buy a couple pair because I know it’s just a “trend”.

  26. I agree – that is great trail mix! Good choice of block heels. I usually go with wedges, but may have to look at some of these.

  27. Fav snack grass fed beef mini sticks,
And I’m not even a block heel person mostly flat shoes but very cute. Thank you.

I love block heels. That’s the only heel I wear now at age 65. As far as snacks, I love cashews!

  29. Dottie Kinnaman says:

Love block heels. That’s all I buy! Also a fan of nude heels! Thanks for the update!

  30. Feel like the block heels are more stable!!

Trail Mix – best snack ever.

  31. Lisa Mary Luciano says:

I agree with Sandra — block heels make me feel so much more stable than those tiny heels. My favorite here is the Giana block heel — on sale, too!

  32. Kim Luehmann says:

They all look so comfortable. I can’t stand the thought of squeezing my feet into spiked shoes any more! Thank you for sharing.

  33. I’ll admit that I avoided block heels for awhile as I thought they were too “clunky” looking on my small, narrow feet! I purchased a pair last summer and now I am a fan. So much more stable to walk in.

  34. Bridget H says:

Chunky heels are so cute to me! I love and enjoy wearing them. The only downfall is getting a heel that isn’t so heavy. Some can be weighty, and depending on the day/night in them, can leave your feet sore. ☺️

  35. My favorite “healthy” snack is Skinny Pop Popcorn 😘

  36. Love block heels. I feel stylish and stable on my feet! Thanks for sharing.

  37. Tania…thank you for the laugh about stealing the delivery people’s snacks:)….Nutty Buddy!!! My favorite “healthy” snack is Blue Bunny mini swirls cones. I say healthy since they’re tiny.

Love the block heels. Great selection. I feel they’re safer and more comfortable than regular heels.

  38. I love the block heels!
I tentatively purchased a pair of Vivaia flats – so comfy right from the beautiful packaging. I plan to investigate their heels next! I highly recommend them!
