LET THE CELEBRATION BEGIN
One year ago today, I posted my very first post on 50 is Not Old. My first post, (a must read that will take all of a minute, maybe two) talks a little about why I decided to start blogging. It is funny to think back to the beginning, I knew absolutely NOTHING about blogging. I was too dumb to know that it was hard, and that there were thousands and thousands of blogs out there. I just thought you came up with a name, posted a few pictures, and people would send you lots of goodies and that you would make lots of money.
I am supposed to be doing a post today for the Ageless Style Link-Up, but since it is my blog anniversary, I am not following through with the theme. Be sure to check out the other ladies to see How To Transition Summer Pieces Into Fall.
Why did I decide to blog? I used to watch House Hunters a lot on television. If you have never watched the show, they take a couple looking to buy a house, and they find them three or four to choose from. I remember several of them who talked about their jobs. They said they worked online, so they could work from anywhere in the world. I thought how cool that was; you could just go and come and never have to worry about finding a new job. I was also thinking about retirement. Maybe I could find a way to earn some extra money after I retired, which is still a long way off.
I spent one weekend on Youtube trying to learn how to set up a Wordpress blog. Thankfully, my sister had a friend who could design and set up websites. She agreed to do my hosting, which was wonderful. She didn’t charge much at all for a year’s hosting, and the best part was, she took care of setting up EVERYTHING. I didn’t have to do a thing. My first post had three likes on Facebook, and no comments. My first post to get a comment was on this post about Labor Day. My first commenter was JoLynne Shane!!! I must have left a comment on her page, because there is no way she would have found me otherwise. My first commenter that was unprompted was Brandye. And for that Brandye, I have a small gift coming your way? She has been with me from the beginning, and is still with me today!
September was off to a rousing start, with around 2,088 pageviews. That was quite a lot, seeing as none of my friends or family even knew about the blog, These views were only from people I didn’t know. I soon found out how to do link-ups with other bloggers, and my pageviews would double every month.
I just want to share with you a few stats after one year:
- I have now had 9,630 comments left on the blog
- I average over 200,000 pageviews a month
- My pageviews for the year is now 1,558,515
- I have done 362 posts
- Lisa has left the most comments (you have a gift coming your way too)?

WOW!!! I am not sharing these numbers to brag, I don’t even know if these are bragging numbers. Lol! I am just saying that it is possible to start a blog when you are in your 50’s. I know that the Lord made this happen. There is no way that an over 50, computer challenged, in the middle of nowhere, woman that had no writing skills and no real shopping venues, could make a fashion blog and it be successful. Maybe my Sunday blog posts are the reason, otherwise I have no idea why. I am just thankful!
I have started receiving goodies and making a little money, but don’t look for me to quit my day job anytime soon. Haha! I am so looking forward to the upcoming year, and I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for my blog. I am going to be a doing a few “tweaks” in the upcoming month. Nothing major, but things that take some time to implement.

Navy and white have always been a favorite combo of mine but when I saw the yellow accents, I was hooked!! A warm ‘Hello’, coming all the way from South Africa, Tania!!!!!! First of all – big congrats on the first blog anniversary – you are doing great and I’m ready to enjoy the next year, and many more, with you!!!!!! I discovered your blog recently via Pinterest and I am so glad I did!!!!! I am really enjoying reading it and getting style tips from you wearing your fabulous outfits!!!! Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of money to spend on clothing, but I believe when buying the correct stuff you don’t need to break the bank when shopping for stylish items!!!!! I love to sew and I’m going to get some fabric and patterns tomorrow to make some new outfits, as I have lost a lot of weight recently and a lot of my stuff is too large at this stage!!!! You have inspired me to have another look at patterned fabrics – I hardly have anything (in fact I don’t think I have anything!!!) with patterns on it and I’ve come to know that it looks great if worn the correct way and you can do so much with it!!!!! I will be turning 50 in January, and to be honest – I’m looking forward to it!!!! Fit and fabulous at 50 – that’s me!!!! I love your style, your taste in not so expensive clothes/shoes/purses that “real” women can afford, and your taste in accessorizing your outfit (especially the plunder jewelry). So happy I found your blog about 6 months ago. My favorite outfit is the white pants with the white/navy QVC blouse that had the white cuffs at the sleeves. I fell in love with that blouse. I started reading fashion blogs about 1 1/2 years ago….my mom was ill for many years and after helping my parents during the day, I enjoyed reading light, fun things on the Internet. Long story short, my mom passed away June 2015. After a year now with my focus on my healthy, but elderly dad, he passed away suddenly in July….so I have continued to enjoy reading fashion blogs – especially yours! They do not ship to Australia. Another reader just had me do this for her, but the shipping is very expensive. It was 7.00 for the package to come to me, and then another 38.00 for me to ship on to her. All in US dollars, I just learned about that exchange rate. Haha
Well first of all there is no way that I could pick my favorite because I love each one for different reasons!! your hair is super sassy and funky And I think that is what drew me in at first! then of course you were in your 50’s too so we had that in common and you weren’t 6′ tall and a size 1 so another thing I could relate to! And then there is your personality, you are someone I could be friends with, you are real, down to earth and you tell it like it is!!! you don’t pretend to be perfect and you let us all see the real you and let us know it’s okay for us to be who we are and that we don’t have to break the bank just to look our best!!! I’m still just as excited every day to see what you will be styling and what story you have to tell. Your Sunday posts are excellent and very inspiring – you definitely have a talent for writing! I think my favorite post is the one where you showed how to turn a large scarf into a vest. This is a brilliant technique and is much cheaper than buying actual vests. Plus the mix and match possibilities using a multi-colored scarf/vest are endless and can make a person’s wardrobe look much larger than it is. My favorite blog was when you showed how to make a scarf into a vest. I have a beautiful University of Kansas scarf that my mom gave me and virtually EVERY TIME I wear it as a vest, people ask about it and I have to take it off and show them how to make the scarf into the vest. I found your blog on Pinterest a few months ago and it has had two impacts on my life. 1. I purged my closet and changed how I shop and how I dress for my 58 year old lifestyle. 2. It has inspired me to seriously consider blogging with my daughter about how God has called her and her husband to be foster parents. I’m so glad I found your blog…..I really love it. First off when I tried to click the link to go to your fb page (I assume) it said the page was broken (or something like that….memory issues – ha). Wow 1 year – Big congrats to you. I’ve been reading your blog for quite awhile. It’s hard to pick a favorite post, you have so many funny stories. Favorite outfits are probably the classic ones with a pop of color in accessories. Being grey haired and fair skinned I tend to wear more solid colors these days so yours always catch my eye. But do love your fun sense of style and have used ideas from you. Probably the most different addition for me this year has been ripped jeans!! Would never thought I (I’ll be 62 in a few months) would wear. Thanks to you styling them I now have them in shorts, capris and long jeans. Such a fun look. Today I went back to the first blog and looked through the early ones attempting to remember when it was I found you. I checked my Pinterest board and since nothing is in order there I’m not sure. Just glad I did find your blog. Since I’m fashion obsessed it could have been any one of your outfits. I’d say my favorite is kimono with fringe. I could not get that kimono out of my mind and searched until I found one as close as possible and duplicated the outfit. Thank you for all of the lessons on color, makeup, and hair. The post from Friday, June 24, 2016 made me step out of my comfort zone and try leggings with a LOGO sleeveless tank, something I never would have worn before. Since I’d lost a lot of weight, new clothes were in ordered, so I duplicated your look. Wow. Before long, I was off and running with the credit card to try new things. I thank you for that!
