And just like that, another year has quickly past. Six years ago, my sister, published author of Last in a Long Line of Rebels and Hope in the Holler(available as a pre-order), tried to talk me into starting a blog. She was the writer of the family, and I had no real expertise in any area, so I basically ignored her. She kept on and on trying to talk me into doing it and even went so far as to buy me a domain name to get me started. Still, I did nothing. For some reason, though, she had planted a seed, and I kept thinking about getting up the nerve to start a blog. I mean, how hard could it be? Lol!!! Talk about naive; I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I decided one weekend that it was going to gnaw at me until I at least give this blogging thing a try, so I sat down and went to work. The first thing I did was to buy a domain name since the one my sister had bought for me a year earlier had expired. I wanted something easy to remember and easy to type since I knew I would have to type it over and over again. Then I signed up for the free version of WordPress and started looking as themes. All weekend long, I watched YouTube videos and searched on Google how to do this or that. It was pretty hard since I was trying to do it all by myself. I finally called my sister and confessed what I was up to, and she helped me by showing me what all the widgets and plugins did. This is my very first picture that was published on September 6, 2015, and here is my very first post. Don’t blink, or you will miss it. Gracious, that was only a paragraph, but it probably took me forever to write. I had no idea how to “link” to clothes or even how to find them on the computer.
I couldn’t believe that people found my little blog! I hadn’t told anyone, not even Joe, about the blog. I was afraid that people would laugh at me and make fun of me. It was probably some time in November when Joe demanded to know why I was taking pictures of myself in the mornings. He was dumbfounded when I said, “I might have a blog.” I brought it up to show him, and I told him that I actually had ladies who were looking at it. I don’t think he was very impressed at the time. Lol! Especially when I told him that I wanted a pair of Hunter Boots since all the “bloggers” were wearing them. Hahaha! I tried to be like everyone else who blogged; I wanted the boots, and I wanted to wear clothing like they did, but it just wasn’t me. I finally settled down and just decided to be me. Amazingly, I started getting comments that said, “I like that you are a real person.” So all that time I had tried to be like everyone else was for nothing; you gurls saw right through that.
Back in February 2016, I was already starting to push you gurls out of your comfort zone. I can’t believe I waited until I was in my mid 50’s to start a new career. I didn’t know that blogging could be a career or even how to make money from the blog, but I knew that I was looking for something that I could do from anywhere in the world. I wanted to be able to retire one day and still have an income, and this was an avenue that I wanted to pursue.
I started introducing you to color. I had no idea that so many of you were living in a black, gray, and navy world. I probably should have known that since I am describing my sister. I love wearing color, and I am not afraid to push the boundaries sometimes. Granted, there have been times when I look back at some of my photos and think, “what in the world were you thinking???”
This photo was in 2015. Things have changed, and yet things have stayed the same. The biggest thing I notice is that I didn’t have any eyelashes back then. Lol!!! Of course, I would notice that. Hahaha!
As you can see, 2017 was the year that I grew my eyelashes. Lol! I started using lash boost back in October of 2016, and they were starting to get crazy long. The red is gone from my hair, and I’ve started to go more toward the blonde look that I have today.
I must have cut my hair last year, because, in this 2019 photo, it looks pretty short. This is one of my favorite looks since I’ve started blogging. I love the knee boots with the skirt and denim jacket.
I have introduced you to my family and invited you into my life. I hope you have enjoyed being a part of 50 Is Not Old as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you. I look forward to celebrating many more years with you if you will have me.
You know that I have to have a giveaway to celebrate this occasion. Since Kendra Scott is my latest passion, how about the McKenna Necklaceand matching Margot Earrings as a prize? They are what I am wearing in the photo below.

Congrats on 5 years a blogger! You was my first and still my favorite blogger! I have been following you for over 2 years now, I enjoy your stories of family and life and I absolutely love your styles and try to “copy” it whenever possible. You have helped me step out of my comfort zone with color. Thank You!
Congratulations Tania! I have been one of your “gurls” since 2016. I love color, so your style was very attractive to me! Thanks for being both classy and sassy! And for sharing where you make your purchases. Best wishes for many more years of blogging!
Oh you I love you girl and have been an avid follower since 2015 when I stumbled upon your blog. I’ve loved it ever since! Your fashion is SO me, you make me laugh, you challenge me w your boldness and your faith, and I love getting to know your sweet family! You are an inspiratiion to us all and you will continue to experience life outside the box and shine!
I recently came over after your style collab with JoLynne.. I like that you are a little more adventurous with color than some of the bloggers. Happy anniversary!
I think I’ve been following you for about 3 years. You are a blogger that I can relate to – down to earth and I enjoy your sense of humor and the little stories that you tell on yourself and Joe. So kind of you to do this jewelry giveaway!
I recently became one of your gurls when I found you on Pinterest! I’m on a quest to reinvent and better myself (in oh so many ways!) and I really love your style! Your warmth comes across in your blog and encourages me along the way! Congrats on 5 years!
I missed this blog yesterday because we are under a mandatory power shut off yet again. More winds and thunderstorms and lightening expected. I don’t get news from everywhere in the US but I’m thinking only in California the incompetence is so extreme that they shut off electricity to prevent fires when it’s 108°. So, we took to the hills in our motorhome and with generator power, we were nice and cool. But I forgot to bring my iPad.
So. Let’s see, I think I discovered your blog shortly after doing a search for what to wear after a certain age. I saw outfits from Susan and Beth and pinned them and you popped up in my suggestions on Pinterest. I can’t recall exactly when that was but being the OCD me that I am, I went back and read every post you wrote from the beginning.
One thing I did was in the morning when I couldn’t figure out what to wear I’d look at my pins. We are similar in a lot of ways except I’m older by ten years, my feet are a size smaller, my height is less by two inches and for the life of me I cannot figure out how you can wear a Chico’s.5. Lol! Most of my non Chico’s pants are size ten. Yet in a Chico’s I need a 1.5. I have a tiny waist and big hips so maybe it’s the hips! We have the same hair cut lol. I did not get red highlights although I asked for them in March. We all know what happened then! My salon is now finally opening next week. They decided to remodel and paint and it looks a lot like your dining room did. Haha. So soon, I might get some strawberry blonde in with my caramel and little girl blondies. I’m so sick of blah! You’ve been a huge source of inspiration for me and I’m so blessed to have found you.
BTW I bought a book on how to stop being on social media all day lol. So I deleted FB and Twitter but kept Instagram. I have just paused it. My kiddos post so I’ve cheated by peeking at my hubby’s account cuz he follows them as well. So if I haven’t been there to comment that’s why.
