June 2016

50 IS NOT OLD | JUNE LOOKSCan you believe that today is the last day of June? The fact that 2016 is now half way over, is just crazy. How did that happen??? It seems just like yesterday we were making resolutions and freezing our buns off. Now, summer is in full swing, and now our makeup is sliding off, it is sooooo hot. I am not complaining, I am one of those who would rather have the heat as the cold anY day.

50 IS NOT OLD | GRANDCHILDREN ARE A BLESSINGI have been blessed in many ways, and I daily thank the Lord for all that he has given me, but I have been especially blessed with wonderful grandchildren. Two adorable little girls, and two rotten little boys, are everything I could have ever asked for. HOWEVER, have you ever heard the saying about “wrangling cats?” That would have been an easy task in comparison to getting a good photo of 4 children (all under the age of 8) together.

50 IS NOT OLD | MANI AND PEDIToday the girls ditched the boys and headed to get our nails done. I got a manicure only, and the DIL’s both opted for pedicure’s. This picture does not have my new nails in it, it was taken on Friday. You will see the new nail color in a couple of days, and I think you will not have any trouble spotting it. It is quite a bit different than my normal colors.

50 IS NOT OLD | GOOD TIME I am just going to tell you right off the bat that I am having a wonderful time with my family!!! It is wonderful having them in to visit. There is lots and lots of laughter throughout the house. You can hear squeals of delight, along with the normal squabbles and fights that comes with having 4 children under the age of 8 in the house.

Good morning, I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! I have been blessed to have my son, his wife, and my three grand-babies from Tennessee in to visit with me. They will be staying for a few days, so I am sure my smiles will be extra big on the blog.

Today I want to talk about something I had on my mind. I don’t know how many of you have seen, or read, the Twilight series. This was books that were later made into movies, about the Cullen family. Believe it or not, this was a romance movie about vampires.

In the movie, and in others I have seen, a vampire cannot enter your dwelling unless you extend an invitation. I am not sure why I was thinking about this, or even why I started associating the devil with vampires, but I wondered if the devil worked in the same way. Can he only enter your dwelling if you extend the invitation?

After I said my prayers that night, I laid there and started talking to the devil. I told him he was not welcome in my home, and that he needed to vacate immediately. It was a little more detailed than that, but you get the idea. I went to sleep and had a dream that scared me. I dreamed that the devil and the Lord were in a battle with me in the middle. I was screaming and kicking at the devil to leave, and the Lord was trying to pull me to him. I am ever so thankful that even in my dream, the Lord won. But, when I woke up I was still a little shaken by the dream.

In Sunday school the teacher was talking about a frog that would grab the innocent fly and gobble him up. She said it reminded her of how the devil does, just waiting to gobble us up. I asked her about my theory, did she think that the devil has to be invited. After all, the devil tries to trick us into doing wrong, but he doesn’t grab an innocent person. In order for the devil to grab us, we have to willing give him an opening. Does your thoughts open the door? What about lying, even the little white lie, does that open the door? Profanity, vanity and pride, gluttony, jealously, and gossiping are just a few ways that the devil can open the door and enter your house. These are “normal” sins that almost everyone is guilty of committing, it does not have to be robbery, rape, or murder.

So, what are we to do? There is not one of you reading this (or writing this) who is not a sinner. There will not be anyone in my church today who is not a sinner. That is depressing, but that is the reality of situation. BUT, because Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we have hope. We can ask for forgiveness, and the Lord will show mercy. If you repent to the Lord with an honest heart, He will not only forgive your sins, they will be erased. That is the truly amazing part!!! I have forgiven several people for grievances against me. I have even said prayers for those same people. BUT, I have a hard time erasing the memory of the grievance, or the pain that was caused by their actions. I am thankful the Lord shows us mercy and grace.

While the devil may not need an “invitation,” to tempt us into doing evil, we do not have to accept his “invitation” either. Tell him to leave, he is not welcome. Maybe, if we tell him long enough, he will move on to an easier target.

I hope you will share this post on Facebook or Twitter. I hope this reaches someone who maybe struggling, just like me. Have a blessed day with those you love.

50 IS NOT OLD | GOOD DEALYou should already know that I am someone who likes a good deal. But, do you know a good deal when you see one? You would think the answer would be obvious, but it is not always as easy as you might think. There are a few questions you must ask yourself first.

50 IS NOT OLD | SPONTANEOUSOkay, Deb, this post is for you. It is all about spontaneity, the quirks and the pluses. Some of you are planners, you like a rigid schedule, and that is what works best for you. My energizer bunny friend has almost every minute of her day planned, and she makes the most of every minute. I envy her, I would LOVE to know what I am doing next Thursday at 5:30. I might think I know, but I never really am for sure.

50 IS NOT OLD | SCALLOPED SHORTSI never know when I sit down at night what I am going to write about. Sometimes it is about what has been happening in my life, sometimes it is a walk down memory lane, or I look at my outfit and decide to talk about that. I guess by now you have figured out which one I am going to be talking about. Lol!

50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS TO PLEASEWelcome to Wednesday’s Wardrobe Link-Up! Today is the last day of the free Youth Golf Clinic at Willowbrook Country Club. Several young children came out to enjoy themselves, and learn a few golfing tips. Some of you mentioned me doing a post on golf attire, and if I take the game back up, I will have to address that subject. However, I know an outfit you will not see me wearing…..that would be a very, very short dress that was worn at the US Open this past weekend. Joe and I were watching the ending of the tournament to see who would win, and he got an eye full when the fiance of the winner went out to congratulate him. The cameraman followed the couple as they took the long walk upstairs to the clubhouse. Here is a tip for everyone: when you have to constantly tug at your dress to keep everyone from seeing your private parts, the dress might be too short. Lol!

50 IS NOT OLD | EXERCISE AFTER 50How many of you saw the title, Do You Need To Exercise After 50, and thought about the word “need?” There is a big difference between need and want. I “need” to exercise, but I don’t “want” to exercise. As we age, our bodies are changing, and not necessarily in a good way. Our knees give us trouble, our backs ache, and don’t get me started about what jumping up and down does to my bladder. Lol!
