Pt. 2 – Swimsuits For Women over 50 Try-On Haul

I first want to thank all of you who left me encouraging comments on yesterday’s Swimsuits for Women Over 50 Try-On Haul. If you ask most women over the age of 40 what the hardest thing to wear out in public is, I’m betting that swimsuits are top of the list, followed closely by mini-skirts. Here are a couple of other posts I’ve recently done on swimsuits.

Most of us aren’t a size 4 or have a perfect hourglass figure, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t wear a swimsuit. I promise you, most people (there will always be THAT one) don’t even notice you, and if they do, they’ve forgotten about it two minutes later. For sizing reference, I’m 5’6″ tall and weigh between 150-155. I usually wear a size 12 in swimsuits.

The reason that I started this blog was to help women feel confident in their skin. I’m always encouraging you to get out of your comfort zone and try new styles and trends. These swimsuits for women over 50 try-on posts are me following my own advice because they are waaaaay out of my comfort zone. You’ve heard me say that I’m built like a ruler with hardly any curves; that doesn’t change when I put on a swimsuit. If you are an apple, pear, or a rectangle shape, you will still be that shape in a swimsuit. But, please don’t let that rob you of the pleasure of going to the beach or pool in a swimsuit.

Here is a La Blanca Tummy Control One Piece in Capri Blue. This suit comes in a couple of colors, but I decided to try this one since I didn’t have a blue one. My daughter also tried this suit, and she LOVED it but said she wanted a different color. She said she didn’t want to blend in with the water and wanted a color that would stand out if she had trouble. That is something that I would have never thought of, but it does make sense.

I’m wearing a size 12, but I think that I would have preferred a 10 in this suit. It felt loose, and I didn’t feel held in, so this one will go back. My daughter is still deciding if she wants to get this in the bright pink version. The Banded Straw Visor is perfect for windy days when a floppy hat will be hard to keep on your head. This visor has a stretchy elastic band to help hold the visor on tight. Plus, the wide brim is great for keeping the sun out of your eyes. The inside of the band has a cotton lining, so the straw isn’t scratchy against your skin.

This swimsuit is one that I didn’t want to order, but my daughter wanted to try it. This One-Piece Front Crossover Swimsuit is in the color Merlot. I liked this swimsuit and thought it was way more flattering than I thought it would be. Remember, try new styles because you never know what you will like. This swimsuit comes in many colors and prints, and I’m wearing a 10-12, which fits me great.

I love the size of this Wide Brim Straw Hat! It will look great while walking on the beach or lounging by the pool. Even though I have a large head (no comments), the hat fits me great. I’m also wearing a pair of Straw Earrings that was part of a 4-pack. These earrings are lightweight and only about $3.75 each. They aren’t the best quality, but I’m wearing them to the pool, so I don’t want to wear expensive jewelry that might get lost or damaged.

The White Pearl Beaded Stretch Bracelet is one that you will see me wearing a lot this summer. Usually, I shy away from the drusy stones when I wear Kendra Scott jewelry and prefer plain gold or silver items. This bracelet and matching necklace (not shown) have made me rethink this because I love this set. I’m wearing the Iridescent Mix color, but it is available in other colors also. The gray and blue mix look like ones I could also wear often.

This Cupshe One-Piece Geo Print Swimsuit is one that I thought I would love. I have a long torso, so I don’t feel like this swimsuit looks the best on me. It would look better on those with a short torso instead. Also, you can see that the leg openings are higher cut (I always try on bathing suits with panties), and even though they aren’t horrible, I didn’t like the swimsuit.

Here is the look of the “cheek” coverage, and once again, it’s not bad. This swimsuit runs small; I’m wearing an XL.

I forgot to mention the CROC Flip Flop Sandals that I’m wearing. I love slip-on water shoes when I’m at the pool or beach. I can easily take them off if I want to walk in the sand, and they slip on quickly when I get out of the water. These have excellent ratings, and I like the way they fit. I ordered a size up to 10 because I read reviews that they ran small.

Do you love this Leopard Yellow Kimono Cover-Up as much as I am? Oh, my! This cover-up looks fabulous with so many of the suits I’ve shown you over the past two days, and you might also see me wearing this with jeans and a tee this summer. I’m not sure why my camera fuzzed the cover-up color; it is the same color and print all over the kimono. This kimono comes in lots of different colors and prints, and I’m also thinking of ordering the solid black version since I already have the white button-up cover-up. I love so many of the prints that it was hard for me to choose just one.

This Bandeau Twist Top Swimsuit is one of my favorites. I like detachable straps so that you can take them down when you are sunning. The swimsuit also has molded cups, good coverage, and the color is gorgeous. This is another swimsuit that Miraclesuit sent to me, and it is a winner! The suit comes in a couple of other colors, but I’m partial to this beautiful color. I’m wearing a size 10 in the suit, and it fits great.

Straw Tote

I showed a Raffia/Straw Tote yesterday, and I mentioned that I had another tote that I liked even better. For some reason, I didn’t get a good photo with this Handmade Woven Shoulder Bag, so I’m showing it to you by itself. It is a great size and seems to be well-made. I also like that it is lined so nothing slips out through the weaving.

I like swimsuits with interesting prints, especially if they are also pretty colors. This Danube Bleu Tummy Control Swimsuit was sent to me by Miraclesuit, and I must say, they know how to make swimsuits look good on women.

Swimsuit pt.2 scaled

This swimsuit is one of my favorites! It has good coverage and adjustable straps, plus I love the sweetheart neckline. I’m wearing a size 10, and it fits me great.

2 Piece Swimsuits For Women Over 50 Try-On

A two-piece swimsuit is not what I normally choose. However, if you are short-waisted, this type of swimsuit might look the best on you. This Bandeau Bikini Top in oxford blue has a twist top design and removable straps that I didn’t attach. If you are going to play in the waves, you will want to attach the straps unless you like wearing your top around your belly. Lol!!!

The Shirred High Waist Bikini Bottoms have great draping because of the shirring on the sides. The draping helps to hide tummy issues, and this is a detail that I need and look for in swimsuits. Like all clothing, swimsuits have details to enhance or detract from problem areas, so make sure to look at how they are made and if they can address your issue. I’m wearing a large in the top and bottoms, and they fit great.

Black Swimsuit2

While I am showing you two-piece swimsuits for women over 50 try-on, I might as well show you one more. I’m not sure how this Crisscross Twisted Two-Piece Swimsuit even got ordered, but I like it. I thought my daughter had ordered this suit, and I took it to her room. Later that day, she brought it back down to me and said I had ordered it. Since it was my size instead of hers, I guess she is correct.

Black Swimsuit

This swimsuit has a modern style with the crisscross straps and high waist bottoms. The bottoms also have some ruching to help with tummy flaws, and the coverage is moderate. I’m wearing a large, and even though it doesn’t look like the model on the website, it fits my body.

Whew! Well, that’s over with! Lol! I am actually glad that you encouraged (or pestered) me to do these swimsuits for women over 50 try-on posts because I would have never done it otherwise. After reading your comments from yesterday’s post, I can see that the post helped so many of you realize that we aren’t 20 anymore, but that isn’t anything to be ashamed of. We may not have the body of our youth, but we have the experience that comes with age, and that is PRICELESS!!!

  1. If you get comments, it’s only because they are jealous of how good you look! You are so brave to do this! I love the big coverups on the leopard prints-great to wear from pool back to room. or over a sleeveless dress or top.

  2. Thank you for your brave try ons and inspiring others to try on too.
you looked great in all the suits. You rocked it girl!

  3. You look amazing but the top of my legs are too flabby I need shorts or skirts bottoms can you style some like that also please?
    Thank You!

  4. Gurl, you need to be a swimsuit model. You look great in all of these suits!

  5. I never thought I would order a swimsuit online. It is so hard to find one I like when I try them on in the store but when I saw the one piece crossover suite, I had to give it a try. I bought in in royal blue and I LOVE IT! It fits really well and the price was great! I also purchased on of the coverups you modeled. So thanks to you, I am beach ready!

    1. YAY!!! That makes me sooo happy!

  6. Well done! They all really looked great on you!

  7. Julie Feagins says:

I loved your swimsuit posts! Great job with selection of suits and accessories! Great job modeling! Kudos to you! The posts were very powerful! You looked terrific!

  8. Sherre Vaughn says:

Thank you for doing this!!!! Swim suits always look different once you have them on so it’s great to see them modeled! I LOVE the black 2 piece from yesterday (ordered from Belk) and am going to get the merlot! You always accessorize so well, too! The suits are beautiful and SO ARE YOU!!!!!

  9. Love the Danube Bleu suit! The navy 2-pc is my second favorite. Thank you for your bravery and fun selections to see. I, too would love to see tankini selections. My family has a lake house and we wear our suits all day – tankini’s are much more bathroom friendly 🙂 As a mid-60 something – I now prefer the mini skirt or board short bottoms, too.

  10. These suits are even nicer than yesterdays! I love the one piece front crossover in the merlot. I really love that they have so many other colors and prints available. I also like the bandeau twist top one. I think my favorite is the Danube Bleu suit. Such a pretty print.

  11. The blue and the magenta suits are especially beautiful on you. Then add the leopard cover up and you are one glamorous beach bunny!

  12. Kathy Henderson says:

First, kudos for being one brave lady to put on a bathing suit on the WWW, thank you very much. And you look great besides. Of all the suits, I like the white one from the first haul and the bright blue one from the 2nd and the cutest is the gingham. KEEP the blue one, you look fantastic in that suit. The first haul caftan is breathtaking. Swoon.

  13. What sunless tanner are you using? It looks quite natural. I have been trying to find one that doesn’t develop that awful smell for years and haven’t found it yet.

  14. I love the first blue one and the Danube Bleu one. Very pretty and flattering. Appreciate these posts, but as I commented yesterday, I wouldn’t wear any of them because they don’t have a skirt or a piece of fabric, at least, coming across the upper legs, but that’s me. I’d love to see you model some tankinis!

  15. I don’t think any of these suits have good cheek coverage.

  16. You look good in all the suits! Most bloggers show bathing suits on 20 yr old models only which doesn’t help us very much.

I enjoy your personality and now I like you even more.

Thank you for taking the leap to do this.

  17. I like the blue & merlot. Thanks too for showing accessories I never would have thought of & I really liked. For those of us less confident what is your opinion/ suggestion on swim dresses & swim skorts?

  18. Ginger Hiller says:

THANK YOU for that last paragraph! I took a picture of it so that I can read it often. I am going to order the visor and the water sandals. I hope that you will share with us the swimsuits that you ended up keeping. My top three are the magenta, the merlot color, and the Danube Bleu Tummy Control one.

  19. Loved so many of your swimsuit looks. The royal blue one was my favorite. The color was so flattering! You are so brave to show us these looks. Gives me inspiration!

  20. Tisha Johnston says:

You looked great in everything! I am so jealous of your toned arms!!!

  21. No worries for you on the beach. You look great.

  22. The maroon and black and the magenta are my favorites on you!!! Beautiful!

  23. So glad you showed us so many great swimwear outfits. We can’t wear the coverups in the water, so we need that just right swim suit. You looked great in all the suits, thanks for for being the brave one.

  24. Thanks for all the ideas. You are very brave. 🙂

  25. Thank you for modeling all those swimsuits! You look great in all of them. The merlot one is one of my favorites. Love your posts and most of all for sharing your faith.

  26. You have a great figure and I think you look good in all. However the black two piece with all those back straps are a NO (my opinion🤫)

  27. Terry Shannon says:

Love the 2 days of swimsuits & your confidence!! Colors are gorgeous! Question: Are the tankini tops with skirted bottoms no longer in style? I feel more comfortable in those type swimsuits.

  28. Sharon Steinhoff Smith says:

Another option for swimwear, especially if you’re actually swimming (or water skiing, or playing beach volleyball) is swim shorts with a tankini top. Lands End has reasonably priced shorts that cover everything and stay in place. I’m never going back!

  29. Joann Czarny says:

You look fantastic in all these beautiful swimsuits. Well done!
Does the Amazon suit have any support in the top? I am a 36D.

  30. My faves are the blue, merlot and fuschia on you. Show stoppers!

  31. You look great in all the swimsuits thanks for sharing, have a great weekend.

  32. Thank you so much for the swim suit post…great variety of suits and what an inspiration you are for everyone reading your blog. Have a lovely time on holiday.

  33. Thank you for posting swimsuits two days in a row! You are rocking this! Your confidence is encouraging me, not just to wear swimsuits but in my life as well. Aging bodies are beautiful. My pear shaped body is strong and gets me everywhere I want to go. I have rolls of fat, cellulite, scars, and sunspots everywhere, but I love her. She’s been a good friend all these years. Thanks for your bravery!
PS I really like the merlot suit on you- so much style!

  34. Love your swimsuit posts!! I’m older than you and love the beach, pool, lake, etc. so I do wear swimsuits. I’ve been a fan of the tankini suits (easier to use restroom) but seeing some of these one piece suits on you – I may have to rethink my position and try some of these one piece suits!! Thanks for getting out of your comfort zone for us gurls!

  35. Thanks for this post on swimwear! You look absolutely fabulous! It’s SO refreshing to see someone nearer to my age of 64, trying on swimsuits instead of a 20-year-old. You will look great on your beach vacation so enjoy every minute of it!! Enjoy hearing your daughter’s comments too as I’m sure there are plenty of 30 and 40 somethings that dread the swimsuit season also!

  36. Stacie J Kreitman says:

You look fabulous in these suits and you are so brave! Loved the Danube blue and the Framboise suits and the leopard cover up.

  37. You are so brave to do a try on and you look great. Most bloggers won’t. I like the merlot on you best.

  38. Tania, you look fantastic in all the suits! But in that Framboise, you look like a movie star goddess! Thanks for these helpful posts.

  39. You look fantastic in all the swimsuits you featured! Can’t pick a favorite, love them all! You have great style and you show us all how to be confident and stylish!!

  40. Thanks for doing the swimsuit haul! It helped a ton!

  41. You look great in all the suits and I salute for modeling them. My friends and I joke that we spend more time choosing a cover up than the swimsuit.

  42. If I looked as good as you, I would not hesitate to wear a swimsuit. Thanks for being bold and showing us the styles out there.

  43. I never thought I would enjoy a post like this SO, SO much!!! I really appreciate you!

  44. Paula G Ryba says:

I have never been so impressed with the contents of a fashion blog post. Thank you, thank you for the courage you displayed by posting photos of a real 50+ body in swimsuits. I love your blog for the stories you tell, the questions you ask, and the fashions you display. Congratulations on your recent weight loss and please continue with everything you are doing.

  45. Love the Merlot suit with the black stripe detailing, you look great in any of the vibrant colors! The leopard cover up is awesome1

  46. You are so adorable. I love your posts for the honesty in your comments. And..you look great in those bathing suits.

  47. Big thanks for swim suit try ons. Very nicely done and older girls like me need to be encouraged. Gorgeous suits!

  48. Another post of HITS! I’m repeating from yesterday’s post—-you look fabulous, capital F. So glad you shared.

  49. Wow! Great variety of suits! My favorite, and it was hard to pick, was the blue Danube. Love your accessories Thanks again for doing this post and showing front and back pictures

  50. I think you have a great figure and all the swimsuits looked nice on you. I am a firm believer in why look good when you can look great, however. I loved the one piece Catalina blue, the one piece fushia, the navy blue print one piece and the black one shoulder tankini two piece. Love the leopard caftan and the cold shoulder pink and gold cover up. Love the straw hat more than the visor. Love the straw tote. Not a fan of the plastic crocs. They are practical but don’t do anything for you and the stunning outfits you have assembled.

On a personal note, I am now 70! Yikes! But have never felt better about myself. Four or five years ago, I lost 24 or so pounds. And for the first time I in my life have kept it off. I am a size 12, top and bottom, sometimes M tees and blouses, usually L. Like you, I love clothes, accessories and have fun with clothes outfits.

I enjoy your blog. I get great ideas.

  51. I love all of these suits. You look fabulous! The leopard print kimono is really cute. Thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone ❤️

  52. Regina Cocolin says:

You simply look stunning in everyone of those suits. You are a great inspiration. Thank you so much.

  53. After looking around the pool, at 60+, I finally realized two things. First, anything goes. Secondly, nobody is worrying about you – they are too busy worrying about themselves. So wear what makes you feel comfortable and have fun! P.S. You look great!

  54. Barbara Maxwell says:

The Danube bleu suit looked just great on you. The print and the design lines on it made you look very shapely. The coral one was a miss and the plain colored ones did not play up your shape and some bottoms were skimpy. This is just my opinion. You are in very good shape!!

  55. Christine F says:

Good job Tania! You’ve got some big cajones 😂
