50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual When you choose to dress simple & casual, you still want to have a little style. You can have on a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans and look sloppy, or you can look stylish. It is a matter of fit and style. A boxy man-cut t-shirt will do nothing for your curves, while a slender-fit t-shirt will hug you in all the right places. The difference in the look is astonishing.
50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual I wanted to wear a white shirt with jeans today, but I didn’t want to “tuck” my shirt in. I don’t have the waistline for a tuck, remember I am the emerald shape. This shirt is more of a dressy shirt, or blouse, and is more can be worn left out. I actually thought about tucking it in and trying to wear a belt, but I know that I would eventually drag it out and then it would be all wrinkled. 50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual This shirt is one I bought at Cato’s a couple of years ago. I have a couple other white shirts, (short sleeve, rusched, tuxedo style, etc.) but this one just seemed more feminine. Here is one on their website, but mine is more of a rayon-polyester type material. I like the seaming that makes for a more fitted silhouette, and the fact that there are no pockets. And here is one from Dennis Basso that is REALLY nice. It is also more expensive, and it looks it. The french cuffs add a nice touch. I saw this top at the outlet store, but it was not in my size.50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual I have on a pair of peek-a-boo pearl stud earrings. I am wearing the Atlas Three-Row convertible necklace by Chloe & Isabel. I only have a couple items from Chloe & Isabel, but I really like what I have. They are a little pricey, but everything I have bought from them is quality made.50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual Now, for the red portion of my outfit. The Claudia bootie by Bellini add a little sass to this outfit. These booties are the perfect color red, they have a 3 1/2 inch heel, zipper accents, and are micro suede material. I have only worn these a couple of times, they are such attention grabbers that I have a hard time finding something to put them with. I thought this simple style would let them shine, and also make the outfit more memorable. Here is a pair by Isaac Mizrahi that are gorgeous, but a more toned down color, if the red is too much for you.50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual But, before I even got finished taking my pictures this morning, snow flurries started to fall. I went and checked the forecast and sure enough there was a chance of snow by this afternoon. Guess what does not do well in snow? If you guessed cute little micro suede high heel booties, then give yourself a hand. So much for that plan. Haha50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual Bring on the hunter boots, in red of course. I admit that I am loving these boots. I was really afraid that I would get them, and then not have enough need for them to justify their cost. I have worn them several times, here, here, and here, and the spring rains have not even begun. You may be sick of them by June. Lol!50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual Since I found out it was going to snow, I thought a blazer might keep me a little warmer. The fact that it was only in the 30’s had absolutely nothing to do with my choice. Haha  I grabbed my black Izod velvet jacket that I bought at a thrift store for $5.00 (yes I had to tell you the price, that is half the fun of shopping at thrift stores) for a little added warmth. All the jewelry, etc. matched, so I didn’t have to change anything. Here is a blazer but the price is quite a bit more, sorry.50 Is Not Old | Simple & Casual So, which simple & casual version did you like best? Sassy and cold, or warm and cozy?

  3. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! I’ll be 45 this year and that’s hipper than how I dress most days….WOW I need to step my game up! That Atlas Three-Row Convertible Necklace can be worn 3 different ways(all together or one by one or layer them with something else. http://www.ivysvines.com They’re having a B2G1 Free sale until 11:59 pm est. 1. Wow! Thanks Ivy. I love Chloe and Isabel jewelry:)

  4. Loving this look! Thank you so much for sharing your Thursday favorite thing with us at Thursday Favorite Things Blog hop!

  5. Love the pop of red and your hair looks awesome!

  6. Love classic white shirts. Brandye that is such a good idea to have a shirt tailored! I hope my tailor doesn’t charge me more than the shirt is worth! Tania you have inspired me to hit the consignment shops; you look great!

  7. I love simple looks. I have found I am most comfortable and feel best in tees and jeans and there are so many styles that you can keep it fresh and stylish. And I always seem to go black, white or gray with a pop of color. But if fitting well it looks amazing.

  8. Jeans, white shirt, and a blazer (not to mention red shoes!). This is a hit out of the ballpark! Wish I had a black velvet blazer. I’m on the hunt! I had a dark paisley blue velvet blazer in my hands, but had to return it (just did not fit comfy, and I knew It would be left in the closet). I have red suede shoes (flats), and boy are they warm on blustery days! I had to put on the brown shoes this morning… couldn’t locate my red shoes fast enough in the morning rush here! lol. I’ll try to do better (promise to myself!).

    1. I know all about that morning rush, Betty. I really should lay out my outfits the night before, but I just can’t seem to get in that habit.

  9. I love this outfit – especially the blouse/shsirt. Nothing looks more classy and put-together than a great-fitting shirt. The blazer makes it look even more polished. I wear something similar when going on job interviews – just different shoes and pants.
BTW I just finished your sister’s fabulous book Last in a Long Line of Rebels, which I won in your give-away. What a great book and the messages in it are so important. Can’t wait till my grandchildren are a little older and can read it. Thanks again!!

    1. Lisa, I am so glad you liked the book. I loved it, and am amazed at how talented she is?

  10. Once again, you’ve styled another fabulous outfit! I really need to get more accessories; they truly do pull the whole look together. I am also loving your hair today!! Could you show us step by step how you get your hair to look like that? Please and thank you! 🙂

    1. Kimberly, I am going to try to figure out how to do a video for my hair. Maybe in an upcoming post?

  11. Both are cute outfits! I love casual class…and I like your hair with a little flip in the back!

  12. I will change the boots though!

  13. The outfits are great. Have a pair of red boots and was wondering how to wear them. I agree they are kind of hard to dress. I’m getting them out! This will also be a perfect outfit for Fla next week!

  14. The outfit is FAB both ways!!! I would opt the comfy Hunters because heels are not comfy for me! Either was you get your pop of red! LOVE your hair!! And the fact that you thrift (and are PROUD of it) makes me love you more!

  15. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the red booties!!! And, of course, the Hunters too. To get the menswear look without the boxy shape, my daughter and I have bought men’s dress shirts, then had them tailored. This also gives you a little more length should that be what you are looking for. Happy Wednesday!

  16. Margaret Brown says:

I like it! Being a senior (80), doesn’t mean I have to dress like one but at the same time not a teenager. Being retired I need casual and clothes appropriate to age and body style.
    Thank you

  17. Love this look today, especially those red booties!

  18. LOVE the crispness of the white shirt and the necklace you chose is perfect! I think it should be on my want list… What a great find on your blazer…I hadn’t thought of the combo of velvet and jeans, but it makes a nice statement!
    Stay warm…

  19. Got my hair cut shorter yesterday as I couldn’t deal with it anymore. Would love a video on how you do your hair in the mornings. It never looks bad and that’s good.. I have also been thinking I need a classic white blouse and I like the feminine cut ones too. Very cute outfit.

  20. That’s a winner for me. Casual yet dressy. The perfect combination. Kudos!!

  21. One of my faves thus far!! Rockin’ it girl, you look sharp! I looooooove the pop of red, I’m enjoying wear my red accents all this week. I really love the link to the booties that are open toe, super cute, might have to swoop those up. Your hair looks darling, need a tutorial!!

  22. As soon as I saw the first picture, I thought red Hunter boots! So I’m glad you had the same thought! Sleet with some snow in SE Michigan today so I put on my Hunter boots today! Wish I had a pair in red too!

  23. Today you have the two wardrobe pieces that have eluded me like the lost ark that Indiana Jones is always searching for- The “perfect” white shirt and red shoes/boots. (grrrrrr- must find!) Love this look! Casual done right!

  24. Love both outfits and they definitely fit in my style zone. Don’t have any red closed toe shoes only strappy sandals but could add a red scarf (45 and windy here today). It’s always nice to have a fresh look at a simple style and you look very stylish. Your accessories are spot on. Keep warm and be safe.

  25. Love this outfit for its simplicity but the red boots really make it pop! You have such great style and I so enjoy reading your blog with my cup of coffee in the morning. I think I will copy your outfit today ( do you mind?) I don’t have red boots but I have a pair of Issac Mizrahi burgundy boots that I got in Lancaster PA. It’s cold and snowy here in Central PA and it is going to below zero this weekend. Hope you stay warm where you ate!

  26. Both outfits are adorable!! It’s hard to beat a white shirt and jeans. I love the way you accessorize.

  27. Love, love this outfit! The title may be ” How To Dress Simple & Casual”, but gurl you are classic in this one. And the shoes, both of them, are just the icing on the cake. I love all the outfits you’ve styled so far and I would have a hard time picking a favorite, but this one would definitely be in the running. As the saying goes, ” You look Mavalous”!
