Red – Valentines Day & Heart Health Month
February is a month when everyone thinks of the color red. Most of the time we think of Valentine’s Day when we think of the month of February. Valentines from a loved one, chocolates, roses, and the little candy hearts with the cute sayings, are all a huge part of Valentine’s Day. I am going to be wearing red all week long to celebrate Valentines Day & Heart Health Month. Probably not all red, but there will be red somewhere in the outfit.
Before we talk about Valentine’s Day, I want to spend just a few minutes talking about your heart. Not the perfectly drawn red heart you see on Hallmark cards, but the one that beats inside your chest, and circulates blood through your body. According to goredforwomen.org, heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths in women. That is approximately one woman every minute!
A very good friend, and co-worker, just had a quadruple bypass this past Tuesday. She just turned 50, is a non-smoker, a non-drinker, and is not over-weight. In other words, she LOOKS perfectly healthy. Heart disease does run in her family, so she got checked out.
Symptoms of a Heart Attack
- Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
- Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort.
- Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or light-headedness.
As with men, the most common heart attack symptom in women is chest pain or discomfort. But it’s important to note that women are more likely to experience the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.
If you experience any of those symptoms, please go to your doctor. My mother gave me some great advice, “Always error on the side of safety.” Be sure to check out the website for more information
Now, let’s move on to Valentines Day. How do you celebrate with your honey-bunny? I will probably cook a nice dinner. We had a wonderful meal at Benihana’s while we were in Orlando. It was a sesame crusted tuna meal with a vinegar sauce. I am going to try to replicate that meal to surprise him. If any of you have a recipe, please let me know. I also bought me a purse (they had to ship it to me) from him, another surprise. Hahaha
I am going to ask you gurls for a favor. There is a little girl in my community that was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis at the age of 2 months. She is now in first grade, and a darling little girl. Our community has started a “Love To Mattie” campaign and is asking for all the businesses to hang a red ribbon on their business to show support. They are also asking for valentines to be sent to Mattie as a surprise. This is where you come in. I think she would be thrilled to receive cards, notes, etc. from all over the world. Her mother is a local veterinarian in town, and Mattie has inherited her love of animals, so a note from your doggie or kitty would be cute. Here is what is on the Love To Mattie FaceBook page.
What Can Adults Do to Help?

I thought about you gurls while I was in Orlando. My 5 month anniversary of my blog was Sunday, the 6th, so I picked up a little something from the Vera Bradley store for this months giveaway. To enter the giveaway for the Jazzy Blooms tote, send a valentine to little Mattie and leave a comment below.
I am teaming up today with Ana from Mrs. American Made. We are doing a joint post on the color red. Ana is from the East coast, petite, and a brunette. She is also incredibly beautiful and has a great fashion sense. Reading labels is important to her, not just for food, but in her clothing. After moving to Boulder Colorado, she has made a commitment to only wear clothing “Made In USA.” Please go and check out her blog.

Will send a valentine to Maddie. My son has the same disease. You look great.
I am so happy I found your blogs through Pinterest! You have inspired me to take a better look at my wardrobe and myself. I just turned 54 last week and really needed to boost my self esteem, since I work with a lot of younger ladies who like to rub it in. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your outfits and humor. My card and donation is in the mail to Maddie. Keep up the blog and info, because you are inspiring us. By the way…The Vera Tote sure would be nice to add to my wardrobe 🙂
Such a classic look!
Sending a card to Maddie from the Deep South–Louisiana!
I’m really enjoying your blog! Your outfits are so colorful and fun, you certainly have the knack for pulling it all together. My closet is full of similar items to yours so I’ve started trying to put things together by “copying” your style! In addition to your fashion advice, I like your life lesson or message in each post, sometimes it’s simple, other times it’s serious (go red for heart disease and help for little Maddie) keep up the good work!
I enjoy this blog so much. Love your style and live the Vera Bradley bag.
Love your style and so glad I found you!
Love this classic look!
Love those windowpane pants!
I just discovered your blog and I am loving it! I am just about at the end of breast cancer recovery and looking forward to getting back to life and getting dressed again! You are giving me so much inspiration! Keep doing what you do!

I found you blog only a few weeks ago, and I’m glad I did! You are such a cutie! Your outfits are so classy! I would love to be entered to win the bag! Have a great day! Xoxoxo, Lana?
Red is my favorite color. I wear it every chance I get! I like the window pane pants. I’ve always been a little hesitant to wear pants with a print or design, but I have expanded my wardrobe a little bit with some summer capris and pants with a print.
You look so sharp in that outfit.
Hi Tania! I’m loving this outfit! I just recently purchased a pair of black and white pixie pants from Old Navy, now you have me thinking….lol….wonderful that you are sharing Mattie’s story! Love how your blog is inspiring so many people!
Hi Tania! I have to tease you a bit. I almost skipped your post today because I saw the snowman hanging behind you and thought it was an older post. Ha! I had to laugh I checked the date and saw it was today’s post. Will you be putting back the “S” soon? I think I remember you saying you were sprucing it up a bit. Can’t wait to see it! Teasing aside, you look great today, as usual!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your outfit! You look wonderful in it too! Gotta find some of those pants. Thanks for the inspiration.
I love your outfit…so cute! I also love your kind heart. Thank you for sharing about Mattie. This is what life is all about – helping each other along the way! Blessings!
Very nice outfit again today. I’m always glad to see the Red Dress heart info particular to women. Great reminders we all need. Thanks! – Prayers for little Mattie! – One of my fav Vera Bradley patterns! – I enjoyed today’s post Tania.??
I love red and navy and I am so happy for a few days to indulge in red! Thank you for connecting to Mrs. American Made. Looking forward to your outfits each day. I am giving goodie bags with chocolates to the gals in my Bible Study and we have a party on Friday for 5 couples in our church so I have to figure out what I am wearing. We are playing a version of the Newlywed Game and I am trying to figure out what to call it since we all have been married for many years. Tania, you are good at this kind of thing—what do I call this game? Oldies but Goodies?
I will be sending Maddie a Valentine from the. Great white north. Love your blog and I love love love Vera Bradley purses and accessories!

I like the outfit a lot. You look very nice in red. I am really enjoying your blog and I hope it grows for you. I have shared it with others. I love that the clothes you wear are in everyone’s price range and you often shop your own wardrobe. Have a great valentines day!
You always look so nice?
Cute outfit!
Love your red cardigan, Tania! This is a wardrobe essential this year…red is everywhere.
Very thankful I found your blog through a Pinterest search for modern clothes for the over 50 set. I want to look fashionable, but not like my middle school students! I would love to keep the Jazzy Blooms items for me, but will use them as an Auction item to raise money for my school’s Relay for Life team.
