International Travel Must-Haves For Your Next Trip

Up until a few years ago, doing a post on international travel must-have products would have been a joke! I had done almost no international travel until recently, but lately, I’ve been thinking about going to Europe. Why? A show called Emily In Paris. Have any of you watched it? I mean, the food! The fashion! A gurl can dream, right?

There’s a lot to think about when traveling internationally. I want to be sure I have everything I need, AND look good while I’m there. Today I’ve put together a few things that I think are traveling “must-haves.”

International Travel Adapter

Nothing would be worse than getting to a hotel in Paris and finding out I couldn’t use any of my styling tools. Except, of course, using them and knocking out the electricity for a Parisian block. Or arrondissement as they call them. lol

3 in 1 Charging Station

No need to drag along 3 separate chargers, cords, etc. This 3 in 1 works with your phone, Apple Watch, and earbuds. I love that it can be folded or used flat, depending on the space available.

Electronic Organizer Bag

Speaking of cords and cables, this bag keeps everything in one place. No more frantically searching through an oversized purse looking for your iPhone charger. This is perfect for putting in your carryon in case you need to quickly charge your phone or computer.

Passport Holder

Sure the little blue book they send you will work, but this upgrades the whole travel experience. I may not be a world traveler, but I want to look like one! It also has plenty of slots for credit cards and ID, so you don’t have a need for extra wallets.

Portable Phone Charger

This should probably be at the top of my international travel must-haves. A portable charger is perfect for those long days of sightseeing or lying on the beach. You’ll be taking lots of pics and posting on social media, and the last thing you want is a dead phone! I finally broke down and bought it this past week, so I’ll be all set for my next trip.

International travel must haves handheld steamer perfect

Portable Handheld Steamer

No need to worry about wrinkles with this easy steamer. I love the size, and that the water tank offers ten minutes of steam. Besides, I have no idea how to say, “Can you bring an iron to my room?” in French.

Silicone Luggage Tags

Another international travel must-have – luggage tags that will withstand all of the plane changes. These are flexible and durable, plus the bright color means you can find your luggage quickly. I also like that it only shows your name and not your address.

International travel must haves luggage set

Luggage – Set of Three

These are not too expensive and come in a variety of fun colors. Unless you want to pay a fortune for luggage, it’s all going to get banged up with a bit of travel anyway, but at this price, I won’t feel too bad when I have to replace them.

TSA Approved Travel Bottles

Better safe than sorry. No one wants to watch a TSA agent pour out their expensive shampoo at security. If you need liquids, these work great. But, I also love the Interlocking Storage Container Set that lets me add creams and keeps them all together.

Toiletry Bag

This toiletry bag is a Best Seller on Amazon. It has plenty of pockets to hold all your items, and it zips up to keep everything contained. I usually keep all my items in this while I’m on my trip, and just hang it on the door or beside the mirror. This comes in multiple colors so you can choose one to match your luggage.

Folding Lighting Makeup Mirror

Hopefully, you would never need this folding makeup mirror. But, you never know how small rooms can be when traveling, and I don’t want to go outside looking like Bozo the Clown. Using this for applying makeup will keep people from staring or handing you a balloon.

Tania I think some of this stuff would be good for travel anywhere. Like the charging pad and TSA approved bottle bag those are my favorite anyway.

  2. Julie Wilcke says:

Perfect timing for all this information as we have an upcoming Fall River cruise planned! Thanks for all the great highlighted products.

  3. I had a few of these things ready for our 50th anniversary cruise (actually planned two) in 2020, but thanks to COVID, didn’t get to go. As my husband passed away in 2021, we didn’t get to celebrate like we planned. My travel days are now with my two girls and two granddaughters, and occasionally, the son-in-law!!

    1. Gayle, I’m sorry you didn’t get to celebrate with a cruise, but maybe you and your family can go on one and celebrate the time you had with your husband.

  4. Chris Falk says:

Thank you for the international travel must have ideas! My husband and I hope to take a trip to Europe in spring of 2024. 😊

    1. That sounds like a great time to go!

  5. LouAnn Norton says:

Such good ideas! Love the travel mirror when traveling with the girls and one mirror is not enough!

  6. I like the folding mirror. I need a magnification of 7. Most come in 3x or 10x. Good options if I ever travel again.

  7. going on a cruise I am ordering the steamer, TSA bottles, and the long backup/jewelry organizer
Your showing us these items was perfect timing. Thank you!

    1. Thanks! I am glad you like it. ❤️

  8. if any country to pick would be Ireland, green country side, little pubs, seaside views. just seems so peaceful and relaxing.

    1. That sounds lovely! ❤️

  9. Joanne W. says:

Thanks Tania for all of the organizational and helpful products!

  10. Great ideas. I do a lot of international travel and a new “must have” came up last month when we took our twin granddaughters on a Mediterranean cruise. I wanted them to have the opportunity to swim in the sea and needed beach towels before we got on the ship. I found cute micro fabric beach towels with covers that were lightweight, big, and packable. They are on Amazon and in Walmart. They saved the day!

    1. A cruise sounds fabulous! Thanks for the tip, Connie.

  11. Great tips! It looks like the steamer isn’t dual voltage, so wouldn’t work in Europe and other locations with 220v. You can buy voltage converters (different than a plug adapter), but I’ve heard mixed reviews.

  12. Lori Gorenflo says:

Thank you for the great travel lists as I plan some trips in the future. I love all the ideas.

    1. Thank you for commenting! ❤️

  13. I have purchased a few of the things that you posted today. With our travels this summer and later in the year, these will come in handy.

  14. That luggage set is my favorite for today, although I’d probably only take one piece traveling abroad. It’s a lot to keep up with when you’re on trains, etc. Also, a backpack is a definite necessity.

  15. I need to buy the electronic organizer bag for any kind of trip!

  16. This is a great list. I’ve done a bit of traveling in Europe in the past two years and I think you have covered everything.

  17. I like the luggage tags. They are now in my cart!

  18. I don’t travel out of the country, but I do have the toiletry bag, which keeps my skincare, makeup, and brushes organized, and I’m interested in the portable charger.

  19. I’ve been looking at that phone charger for awhile now. I haven’t flown internationally yet, but I’m sure I’d have to check a bag. Do you or anyone else recommend those air tags for luggage?

    1. I hear lots of people use AirTags for their luggage. It sounds smart and I might have to do that the next time I fly.

  20. Great suggestions for this traveling novice! Have added several items to my list! Thank you!

  21. I own several of these items (mirror, electronics organizer, makeup organizer, adapter, compressor bags) but I want the 3 in 1 charger. That’s what I would buy if I won the gift card.

  22. Thank you for this great list! This gives me a place to start as I begin planning some future trips. A lot of these items will be useful for domestic travel as well!

  23. I love to travel! For years I made several trips to Europe to visit my daughter who lived in Prague and for missions/pleasure. So many of these items are very useful. And even though I’ve traveled and own several of your recommendations, I got a couple of new ideas too! Thanks!

    1. I’ve heard Prague is beautiful! Travel goals. 🙂

  24. This post is def worth saving. So many great items.

  25. Packing cubes are great. Used them first for Alaska. Love the ones that you can take the air out. Perfect for bulky sweaters and coats. Also love the compression ones for undergarments. No need to worry about wrinkles in my socks and husbands t-shirts.

  26. Marsha Morris Ingebretson says:

I recently used packing cubes and loved them!

    1. I bought some cheap ones last minute before going to Boston several years ago. They were great. Keep seeing much better ones that I need to try.

  27. We are doing some international travel in December. I am a little worried about getting all of my winter clothing items in a carry-on only. I am familiar with packing cubes but have you tried any of the bags that you “squeeze” the air out of them? There won’t be any vacuum at our destination so I am thinking of the ones you roll/compress to get the extra air out of them. Thoughts?

    1. Liz, I have some of those bags that I use for clothing that goes under my bed. They are very effective. However, when you roll or compress all the air out, you also add a lot of wrinkles. Be sure that you either have a steamer or items that won’t wrinkle badly.

      1. Patricia Konze says:

Lots of good items that can be used when traveling domestically, too!

    2. still be careful about the weight of that carry on. We’ve found most International airlines are weighing them before you board. Check your airline’s requirements for weight restrictions.

  28. Penny Smith says:

Great tips for travel, especially the luggage tags!

  29. Sandra Schuettinger says:

Tania, if you are a bathtub person and love to end the day with a nice warm bath, take a bath cloth while traveling in Europe if you are not staying in an American branded hotel. For some reason they don’t use bath cloths, only hand towels. I go to Walmart and buy a cheap pack of colored washcloths and put them in a quart size plastic bag. Why color? Be because most hotel linens are whiTe and the color stands out so the cleaners won’t mistake them for hotel’s and take them. Just a very small tidbit that I have learned after traveling to 66 countries.

    1. Sandra, I usually take black washclothes with me when I travel. Mostly because I don’t want to get makeup on hotel or AirBnB clothes.

  30. Nice job on the list!

  31. Great suggestions and most would work for any kind of travel. Thanks!

  32. All good ideas for travel. Favs are
The make up mirror and and charging station!

    1. I like those, too. Thanks for posting, Penny Jo!

  33. Great post. So many things that are helpful that I don’t think about for an overseas trip. Look forward to hearing about your trip when you decide to go.

    1. We are looking at maybe a trip next year, but we’ll have to wait and see.

  34. “Emily in Paris” is hilarious. I’ve been and the scenery is very accurate.

  35. I am a big fan of packing cubes for my clothes. I’d definitely add that to my list. That said, I will be ordering the phone charger STAT! I currently have a power supply that uses a cord to attach to the phone. It works, but it’s heavy and cumbersome. Thanks for doing the “leg work” for me! LOL

    1. Thanks, Tammy! I’m glad you found something you like.

  36. Carrie Claffey says:

Traveling this year! I already purchased so many of your suggestions. Thanks!

  37. Thanks for this list. So many of these items will come in handy.

On a side note – I had a travel converter when we went to England about 6 months ago. I am not sure if it was the converter, the electricity in the VRBO, or what, but my hair dryer was ruined.
It got so hot that the plastic pieces that held the brush in place were melted! Crazy, right???
Oh well… the rest of the vacation was wonderful!

    1. Yikes! That is crazy. I’m glad that everything else worked out well.

  38. Hope Matchniff says:

I definitely used the adapter when I was in Europe in 2019. Be blessed!

  39. Great products, some I didn’t even know existed. Thanks for another great post.

  40. Lisa Bagci says:

This post is so appreciated! we are planning an international trip and I need several of these items. Thanks for thinking of this.

    1. Have fun! Glad you found the post helpful.

  41. Linda Shearer says:

I don’t travel anymore at least by plane but I really like that steamer and its a reasonable price!

    1. I use my steamer all of the time! I don’t even know where my iron is anymore. lol

  42. Rheana Corirossi says:

a European trip sounds so fun! Would Joe go with you? I try and only do a carry on because luggage gets lost and it’s easier to handle. so much to think about

    1. Joe is going because I’m not going without him!

  43. We are going to Europe next year and this post is just what I needed. I already have the toiletry bag and it is fantastic. Now I will have to get some of the other items. The 3 in 1 charger is a must!

    1. I’m so jealous. 💚

  44. Thank you! We are going to Ireland and this helps. Love the baggage tags!

  45. Jeanine Kesey says:

I just returned from a trip to Africa. All of these are must haves. Most likely hair dryers won’t work because of the wattage. You can buy dual voltage hair appliances. I recommend purchasing a cheaper dual voltage hair dryer and leave the expensive dysen at home. The one I bought worked on low but it was not as powerful as what we are used to in the US. I don’t know if this applies to every country but it was true there in Africa. Also add a sleeping mask. Unless you fly first or business class they are not provided on the plane. Crossing time zones can be hard!

    1. Africa is on my bucket list! Thanks for commenting.

  46. Happy Birthday to your grandson! Love the travel must haves…

    1. Thank you! Glad you found the post helpful.

  47. headed to Italy next year. this is super helpful!!

  48. I’d really like the lighted mirror, but alas, need more magnification than 1x, lol. We used packing cubes on our last trip and I loved them!

    1. I love more magnification until I look at my face. 😳

  49. I love your posts!! I look forward to reading them every day!

    1. Thanks for commenting! ❤️

  50. I’m planning a trip to Europe next fall. Thanks for the great tips, Tania!

    1. I am glad that you enjoyed the post! Thank you for commenting.

  51. Great selections Tania!!! My husband and I took a cruise to Alaska this past June which was Amazing!!! If we go again, I would like to take a land tour. I thought of your daughter when I was there. I purchased several of these items listed to take on our trip and so glad that I did. For me, packing cubes were a game changer as I had never used them before. They kept our luggage so organized. I do not see me packing the old way I used to pack. Traveling does take planning and research so I was thankful for many YouTube videos on what to pack, etc. I really hope you get to go to Europe.
    ~Lisa~

    1. That does sound amazing! I loved my trip to Alaska a few years ago. Thanks for commenting! ❤️

  52. Nancy Worthy says:

    These are great travel items.

  53. Oooooh Emily in Paris!!! Love!!!!!

    1. So ready for the next season. 🙂

  54. I purchased the toiletry bag during prime-day(s). I have not used it yet traveling but it packed and yes, hold plenty. I got the large.

  55. Very helpful travel item!

  56. This post was so helpful. I’m considering several of the mentioned items for a trip to Ireland. My sister, daughter and I are going the end of September. The trip of a life time with incredibly special people

    1. How fun!!! I hear Ireland is gorgeous!
