HOW TO MAKE JEANS AND A T-SHIRT LOOK SPECIAL

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old in a taupe Ponte knit blazer, a black v-neck t-shirt, and cuffed jeansHow many of you gurls are cooking your brains out since we are stuck in the house? ? Joe is loving all of the meals, and he keeps bringing in more and more food for me to cook. He is a real meat and potatoes kind of guy, while I am more into one-pot meals. I love spaghetti, chili, soups, and casseroles. But, he likes meat, two or three vegetables, and bread of some kind. Since I have been blogging, he has been settling for take-out, a sandwich, or meat and one vegetable. I told him that he is going to gain lots and lots of weight. He told me that he is willing to take that chance. Lol!
Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old in a taupe Ponte knit blazer and a black v-neck t-shirtEven though I don’t particularly like to cook, that doesn’t mean that I can’t. I was raised to make everything from scratch, so I have become somewhat of a cooking snob when it comes to some things.  As a child, we always made homemade cookies, pies, and cakes from scratch. So, when someone mentions that they love this cake and the first thing they tell me is to add a cake mix, I immediately start shaking my head no. I have finally come around to buying the cookie dough to make cookies, but I still refuse to use a cake mix.

A couple of years ago, we were cooking a huge Thanksgiving meal for the lumber company employees and friends who wanted to drop by and eat. We each bought certain items from the house, but there were a few items that they cooked at the store that morning. One of those items they were supposed to cook was mashed potatoes. I about died when I came in and saw a box of instant mashed potatoes. It was already time to eat, so there wasn’t anything that I could do about it, so I kept my mouth shut and waited for people to start turning up their noses. Imagine my surprise when they didn’t even seem to notice that the potatoes were not “real” potatoes. I was intrigued, so I took a bite to see how they taste. Let’s just say, I now use instant mashed potatoes at the house, and Joe prefers them too. Lol! Maybe I should try a cake mix; also, you never know. Lol!!!
Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old wearing a taupe Ponte knit blazer and a black v-neck t-shirtI decided not to style a colorful outfit today, and instead to show you how easy it is to make jeans and a t-shirt look special. Black and beige are a favorite combination of mine because it plays light against dark for a striking look. I just bought this taupe Ponte knit blazer last week, and I love the way it fits and feels. The Ponte knit style blazer has become one of my favorite styles this year since I bought the red one (here) from Talbots.

The length on this blazer is perfect, and it hits right at the hipline. I like the stretch that the material has and how it gives with you as you bend and move about the day. I wasn’t sure how I would like the taupe color, but I ended up liking it a lot. The striped lining is something that I especially like since it shows when you roll up the sleeves. And,  I will wear probably be wearing it like that a lot this spring and summer for a casual look. I am wearing a size 1, which is equivalent to an 8-10. Here is the link to the blazer, and it is on sale for 40.00 off!
Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old in a taupe Ponte knit blazer, a black v-neck t-shirt, and leopard print earrings. My jewelry style has been changing lately. I have been styling more simple looks and only wearing silver or gold, but today I decided to add a small pattern to my outfit. I just got these leopard print square earrings, and I thought they were super cute. These earrings add a touch of fun to this outfit.

My long (36″) necklace is also a new purchase. I love Kendra Scott jewelry right now for a couple of reasons. The style is elegant, simple, and so far, everything that I have purchased has been excellent quality. Some of their items might be more expensive, but they also have sales frequently, and since they are silver or gold styles, you will be able to wear them for years. Here is the link to the necklace, and here is the link to the cuff bracelet that I am also wearing. As I am writing this, both of these items are on sale for 20% off.

BTW, I get a lot of questions about my circle necklace that I wear all of the time. This is a vintage necklace that I bought from Etsy. Go to the website and type in “vintage rhinestone circle necklace,” and you should get items to pop up. Be sure to read the description carefully and try to figure out how long the necklace is, and how big around the circle is before you purchase.
Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old in a taupe Ponte knit blazer, a black v-neck t-shirt, and jeansThe jeans with the tweed detail at the cuff are a pair that I have had for a while. The last time that I wore these jeans (here), I styled them with a hot pink blazer, and it looked great. I was a little surprised to find that these were still on the website, but they only have a few sizes available. That is one reason that I hate showing items that I have had for a while, especially ones that have unique details like these. Here is the link to the jeans, and I am wearing a size 1 in these.
Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old in a taupe knit blazer, a black v-neck t-shirt, and cuffed jeansThe black v-neck t-shirt that I have on is from Target. I bought this black shirt and a white one at the same time. I was shocked at how nice the shirts were. Don’t get me wrong, they are not the thickest shirts that I have ever seen, but they are better than a lot that cost quite a bit more. These are also so sale for only 5.00, so be sure to stock up on all the colors that you can. I noticed that there are two grays and two whites listed, and one is almost sold out, and the other has stock. So, be sure to try all of the links before you give up that they don’t have your size. Here is the link for the v-neck shirt. BTW, I am wearing a large, and it fits great and is not tight.
Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old in a taupe Ponte knit blazer, a black t-shirt, and cuffed jeansI told you gurls that I like to see what was the most clicked on item from a post. So, I checked out the Spring and Summer shoe post that I did yesterday to see which shoe that you liked the most. It turns out that the linen colored loafers from Rothy’s were the most clicked on shoe…but it was NOT the most clicked on item. You gurls were more interested, or curious, to see what bathing suit that I had ordered. Lol! It is not often that you do a shoe post, and a bathing suit ends up being the most clicked on item. Hahaha!

  4. You look adorable as usual! I’m going to have to get me a blazer now…and where did you find the shoes please?

  5. Love your classic (classy) look every day! Your philosophy in fashion can be applied to food too…?

  6. Stephanie F Jones says:

Was size is your circle necklace (the circle itself and the chain length)? It’s so beautiful, hoping I can find something similar and support someone on Etsy. Thanks!

    1. My necklace is about the size of a quarter and I think it is around a 19-20″ length.

My husband was the ultimate mashed potatoes snob until he tasted Bob Evans brand microwavable mashed potatoes. He loves them and we’ll never go back to the peeling potatoes drudgery! Try them for Joe, he’ll love them! You are always able to make jeans and a tee shirt look so classy!! Great outfit!

  8. Excellent post today Tania and this is my kinda work outfit t-shirt jeans and blazer. I like the bible verse at the bottom too thank you! I love to cook but working ft sometimes means fast and frugal. As for the instant mash I’m a food snob but I love that boxed white stuff!

I love that Joe says he doesn’t mind gaining weight because he likes your cooking that much! I have found that I am all off on what day it is and out of my normal routine. I have not planned a meal in a while and my husband is asking me to make a menu for the week like I use to. I bet he would vote with Joe to just get food on the table.
Love the look you pulled together. I usually don’t think of such a neutral color pallet. I am always trying to stick a pop of color in my outfits. This idea will give me many more options!

  10. Love the outfit!! It’s a no for box cake mix for me.. tastes like chemicals. Always try to make from scratch as I don’t think it’s any harder. Now brownies???.. after trying countless recipes for scratch brownies I actually prefer Ghiradelli brownie mix. I buy the big 3 pkg box at BJ’s and I use strong coffee instead of water. Yummy!!

    1. Love Ghiradelli brownies! I’ll have to try the coffee instead of water. I’m sure I’ll really like it.

  11. I love this look alot. It is is classy and looks very nice.

  12. Instant mashed potatoes can be made delicious with sour cream, garlic powder, half and half, etc. Don’t feel bad about using them. They are a great convenience product! I admit, this cooking dinner every night is getting old already though, lol. We are realizing how spoiled we have been!

    1. Monica Ercanbrack says:

Tho sound good sour cream and garlic yumm

  13. Thanks for your daily blog!! I look forward to it every day! Especially now it’s a “normal” amidst the madness! Love your outfit today too!!

  14. Yep, potato girl here born n raised on a potato farm in Idaho. I finally yielded to try instant potatoes when an other Idaho girl brought a package (?) of ORE-IDA instant!!! I yielded (reluctantly) because dinner was ready to serve. OMG they were fluffy, deliciously flavorful but IT HAS TO BE that brand or at least IDAHO Russets. Love your stories and choices of clothes to model. ❤️

  15. I would love for us to do a recipe exchange while we are all stuck at home. Granted, some ingredients may be hard to come by, but I would love to have some new ideas for what to fix. Maybe you could do a post on #cookingwhilesocialdistancing Then you could post cute outfits for all of us to wear while cooking…Ha!

  16. Love this look -totally me and something I could wear to work on a casual Friday. Looking good!

  17. Love today‘s outfuts!!!

  18. I, also, cook and bake from scratch. Food I think just tastes better! I must say during these scary and concerning times, restaurants in our area are making food to be picked up at curb side. For instance last night I picked up fried chicken, mac and cheese, cole slaw, and chocolate chip cookies for 4 for 32.00. This restaurant has a different 1 menu for each day of the week. Not only does it give us a break from fixing meals at home, it helps the restaurant survive since they can’t be open for seating.. This would be in central Iowa.
I like your outfit. It has a neat clean look. Blazers can give a finished look!
Thank you for your blogs! So enjoy!

  19. No, no, no! You will never convince me to eat mashed potatoes that come from a box. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a food snob. I like ravioli from a can. Lol.

    1. Haha! Have you tried them? If not, then try them before you judge them. Lol!

  20. Imagine my surprise that I am wearing the same jeans today! how fun is that.

    1. Don’t you love it when things like that happen?!?

  21. I cook mostly from scratch too…biscuits, cookies, gravy, etc. I have never been ever to master a good, moist cake. So for those, I do use a box. Can’t stand instant potatoes and instant stuffing.

So glad blazers are coming back. They make everything look a step above!

    1. I haven’t had much time to cook the last several years but I’m not sorry i have the opportunity to do so now. It’s healthier and I think safer then premade food by someone elses hands. Give me a carrot, onion and potato and I can create almost anything!
Blazers are a great idea! I work in healthcare and our amazing frontine staff are working hard delivering care. I will be dressing casually right now but can add a blazer for more of a business look.

      1. It is much safer, that is for certain. Be safe and take every precaution possible.

    2. I love blazers also, and I always have. They make your outfit look polished!

  22. Monica Ercanbrack says:

Yeah I don’t really like to cook either my husband is like yours meat and potatoes kinda guy. Like the simplicity of the tee and Jean’s and the jacket and the jewelry are the icing on the cake for a cute outfit if did need to go out.

    1. You look great!! I love that outfit!! Especially the cuffed jeans with those loafers!! Casual, but polished!!

      1. Yes! That was exactly my goal…casual and polished.

        1. Julia Purtill says:

Thank you Tania for posting for us even through the crisis. Some bloggers are kind of ignoring it and I feel better when we talk about it and share with each other! It’s good to hear others are cooking a lot too. I guess we are getting back to basics! I’m planting stuff too, tomatoes & flowers!
Love your jeans and jacket today!

          1. My sister was planting a lot of seeds today.

    2. I am thinking about doing a series like this for next week.

  23. Earline Gualdoni says:

❤️❤️❤️ I’m excited to raid my closet for a similar blazer! You inspire me daily to look my best!

    1. Yay!!! I love it when I can inspire others.

  24. Oh come on! Instant mash? Really? Lol. Awfull. Anyway, you look great in jeans as you always do. Hope to see you on my Fancy Friday linkup party.

    1. That is what I thought too. But, they are really good, fluffy, and taste great. They are real potatoes, they just have the water drawn out of them.

  25. Kathie Blackwell says:

If you try a cake mix, instead of using oil use margarine or butter and instead of using water use milk. This is for layer cakes. I like Duncan Hines.

    1. Sue Epling says:

My kind of outfit and you wear it so well!! I cook daily except for Sunday, so no change here.

    2. Karen Georgeff says:

Love the outfit! On the hunt for a nice Tan Blazer!
How are you handling the COVID-19 shutdown?
Me..cleaning out closets!! Boy does that feel good!!
      Have a good day
      Karen G

    3. That is a great tip! Thanks, Kathie.
