Here Are A Few Of My Favorite Things
There are several things around my house that I’ve had or used for years. I’m not sure they fill me with joy; after all, some of them are appliances. I walked around the house, taking photos of a few of my favorite things that I can’t imagine doing without.
This post reminds me of the Julie Andrews song, My Favorite Things? It is impossible to read the lyrics without hearing Julie’s voice singing them. While I do love raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, it is this lyric that I love the most:
When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I’m feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
We all have bad days or bad months, but we can choose what we remember. We don’t have to continue to feel bad, and thinking about a few of your favorite things can help bring a smile to your face. So, today, I am bringing you a few of my favorite things that I love.
I have to admit that I was skeptical about this hairdryer. I wanted this hairdryer so bad, though, because I had talked to a few of my blogger friends, and they all told me that I would LOVE it. So, I gave in and made the purchase.
I have thick and coarse hair, and this dryer makes short work of drying it. It somehow makes my hair sleeker and shiny, and when I use a round hairbrush to dry it, I don’t even have to use the curling iron.
Mine is the basic one that Dyson came out with years ago. I found one on QVC, and I love the Prussian blue color, but it is the case that I really love; this dryer is lightweight, but it comes with a long and heavy cord. So, this case would be great to store it in. The dryer is on sale, and with QVC, you can pay in 5 payments, so it makes the price a little easier to manage.
I didn’t get the hair dryer in Prussian blue, but I managed to get the Dyson Corrale™ styler straightener in that color. Lol! Does the color make a difference; not really, but I do love it.
This is the straightener I use daily, and it does a fantastic job. Remember, I have thick, coarse hair, so I have to have a good straightener. I’ve been using this for over two years, and it is still performing great.
The selling point for me was that it was cordless. It sits on a charging stand, but I can use the straightener without being tethered to a cord. Plus, it is a Dyson, and I knew that meant quality.
Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker & Air Fryer
I am beginning to think that I might be a skeptic at heart. Joe had wanted this Ninja Foodi for months and months, but I kept putting him off for one reason or another. I honestly didn’t think that we would use it, and I didn’t want another appliance on my counter, especially one as big as this thing. But this is what he wanted us to buy as our together Christmas gift.
Don’t you hate it when you are wrong? I LOVE this thing. We use it more than our grill or our oven. It is easy to clean up, and I like that it has all of the different functions, like an air fryer, dehydrator, etc. Mine is several years old, so I linked to the newest one. Shew, I hope Joe doesn’t see this, or he will want to upgrade.
I gave Joe the Purple Mattress as a Father’s Day gift several years ago, and we are still huge fans! He is also a huge fan of the Purple Pillow, and he never travels without it.
We had been sleeping on a memory foam mattress before, but we ended up sweating terribly in the middle of the night—no more sweating with the Purple Mattress. In fact, I go to bed each night with my blankie because it is a cooling mattress, and I am always cold anyway. Lol!
The Samsung Frame TV was another “together” Christmas gift. This TV gives me so much pleasure, and I would go so far as to say it “sparks joy!”
We don’t even watch TV that often, so I love that it looks like a painting when the TV is off, which is most of the time. People who come to the house usually think it is a painting, and they are shocked when we turn the television on a channel.
I have turned into a Kendra Scott super fan! I have not been disappointed by a single item that I have purchased, and everything has been a high-quality item. I’ve already purchased more items for my personal collection, and here are a few of the things that I bought.
The variegated turquoise necklace and earrings are new to my growing collection. I love these statement pieces, and they look great in the summer and fall. The earrings I wear the most often are the Colette large hoops! They are the perfect size, so I feel comfortable wearing them with just about anything!
Probably my favorite pieces from Kendra Scott are the 18kt Gold Vermeil Cross Necklace that I wear daily; and this necklace that I bought last year when I caught it on sale.
I love this self-tanner, but it is not for the inexperienced tanner. This tanner has a bronzer in it, which I love, but it will also show any missed areas. I always use lotion before I apply a tanner because it allows the tanner to go on smoother and to spread evenly, so I don’t leave any white spaces.
This tanner is the most realistic tanner that I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a lot. I bought a LARGE bottle when I saw a special, but this is the usual size they sell. If you need help with how to apply self tanner, check out this post.
I bought these Apple AirPods on a whim when I went to an R+F convention in Nashville several years ago. I knew that I would be around a lot of women, and I needed to be able to concentrate on my work. So, I bought these AirPods to put on soothing music while I worked. That helped to drown out the conversations that were happening around me, and they worked like a charm. Here is the funny thing…I use these multiple times EVERY DAY!!!
It seems like eons ago, but back in 2020, I started using Hair Biology hair products, and I’ve never looked back. As we age, things start to change, and that includes our hair. We are not “one size fits all,” and our hair needs are different from someone in their 30s.
I love how this keeps my hair from going brassy and keeps it shiny looking. Just like skin, hair shows signs of aging:
- Thinning: as we age, we don’t just grow less hair; the diameter of each strand also thins.
- Dryness: Our scalp’s natural oil production can drop in half as we age, which makes our hair feel thirsty and dry from roots to ends.
- Graying: By our 50s, more than 90% of women have at least some gray hair, and one-third of us want to show our grays off, not cover them up.
- Hair Quality: hair flows like silk when each strand has a uniform shape, but as we age, time and damage can cause irregular hair shapes, giving us more frizz and flyaways.
This is the hairspray I use all the time—and I’ve used it for YEARS! My hair is thick and heavy, and this hairspray keeps it under control. I can spray my hair where I want it, and it holds it in place. My DIL buys this in bulk for me for Christmas. She knows the way to my heart.
I know it seems silly to put washcloths on a “favorites” list. But you can’t begin to imagine how many ruined washcloths this has saved. The black color is great for taking off makeup, even mascara. They are great to place in your guest bathrooms. I know I would hate to stain one of my friend’s washcloths.
I absolutely LOVE this 14 Inch Planter Pot with Stand. It is the XL size, but smaller versions are available. It might not keep me from killing my plants, but they sure look beautiful in it for now.
I bought this Oil-Rubbed Bronze Soap Dispenser in a 2-pack. It’s an inexpensive way to make your bathroom look fancy. Lol! I filled the dispenser with Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Liquid Hand Soap.
I would never, ever, ever have thought that a laundry hamper would be on my “favorites” list. Laundry is a chore, and I’m not a fan of it. However, this hamper has made my life soooo much easier! I need to put a label above each bin, though, because Joe can’t seem to remember which one is colors, darks, etc.
I’ve had this touchless motion sensor trash can for about 2 1/2 years. We use it constantly throughout the day, however, we’ve never had to change the batteries. I almost didn’t buy this because I didn’t want to constantly be changing batteries. We even bought my parents one because we loved ours so much,

PS My favorite snack right now are seedless grapes.
Love, love Sexy Hairspray!
Also bought a bunch of makeup remover washcloths, love these!!
I love the planter – so pretty!
Love the list. Sometimes it is the most simple things that bring us joy. We owned the motion trash can and love it. I have been following you for several years and enjoy hearing about Joe and your family. I know blogging is not easy work!
Thanks, Debra for following along on my crazy journey. Things have changed a lot, but telling my stories have stayed the same.
I’m really going to try that straightener. I have Chi and the cord continually gets caught on stuff😩
Mine used to do that too. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a straightener yanked out of my hands because the cord caught on the knob of the cabinet.
I would love to try the purple mattress especially since it is cooling!! I am so hot natured!
I have been following you for several years and this is the first time I have ever commented. But I had to this time. I cringed when you said you throw away your bacon grease! That was almost like fingernails on a chalkboard! (Telling my age! Ha!) What kind of southern cook are you?!? That stuff is gold!! 😉 Just kidding, but seriously, you haven’t had popcorn until you’ve popped it in bacon grease! YUM!
Lol! I used to keep it, but I didn’t use it enough and it would go bad. I’ve heard you can freeze it, but I try not to fry things too much these days.
Love your favorite things post!
Great post. Neat products.
I like the 3 sorter laundry bin
I was all set to purchase the Kendra Scott necklace but it’s sold out!! My 13 year old granddaughter loves her jewelry.
Thanks for this list. I like Kendra Scott jewelry too. The makeup wash clothes are great. I save money not buying disposable makeup remover towels. Those with my Elf cleanser balm are wonderful. The Dyson dryer is way more than I care to spend. I’m sure it’s amazing.
Thanks for sharing your favorites!
So many cute things! I was tempted by some of them, but I have a big dog, so she would get into that planter and that trash can lol. Love your style though. You are a household name here with my 3 school-age daughters!❤️
My son has a Newfoundland, so I know what you mean about being able to get into everything. He can easily reach anything on the counter and help himself. Lol! I love that your 3 daughters are also into fashion.
I tried the hair biology and it made my hair dry and brittle. I used it for over 9 months. I lost more hair while using it more than any other shampoo and conditioner I have used in the past.
I hope while promoting it, you share other responses. thank you. Julie
Oh, no! You are the exception because almost everyone I’ve ever talked to loves HB. We are all different, so we have to find what works for us. I hope you found something that you like.
I love my laundry hamper I purchased after your post!!!
OOOH…thanks for the recommendation. I’m in the market for a new purple shampoo. And thanks for the lovely tune that I will have in my head for the rest of the day. The Sound of Music is one of my all-time favorites.
I would love the hair straightener but it’s way more than I could afford. I think spending that would outlive me
It was fun to see some of your favorite things. That tv frame is a nifty idea.
All great ideas! Love the black makeup remover washcloths!
Fun favorite things post! It would be interesting to walk around and find my favorite things ..uhmmmm. Did you try the purple mattress before buying? We need a new mattress but it’s such an ordeal and then you never know how it will really sleep.
Patti, we didn’t try one first. It comes with a long sleep guarantee, I think around 100 days.
I finally found a hairspray I love but love to have options so will be checking
yours out. I have heavy hair as well and like a spray with hold! Love the trashcan
recommendation – my husband always complains about ours! Father’s Day is
coming ha ha!
I’m glad you enjoyed this post. Thank you for commenting! 😊😊😊
Couldn’t agree with you more about cooking bacon on the grill, I’ve been doing it for years!
Thanks for the bacon instructions. Need to try it!
It was fun seeing your favorites – I need to try out the shampoo. I have thick coarse hair too with grey. It’s frizzier now.lol.
What a great post. I can see how all these things would be favorites. I would love every one of them.
Anything from Kendra Scott is a treat. Love her jewelry!
Fun post, Tania! I share your enthusiasm for favorite things too. One of them is the makeup remover wash cloths that you introduced me to! A huge thank you!😊 I’ve even gifted them to my daughter and bff.
Nancy, they make great gifts!
awesome post! thanks for the change in topic from clothes to your other favorite things.
Thank you, love this post, great stuff, saved several items! Winner winner chicken dinner!
When I opened your email and saw the bacon on the grill I laughed. I, too, had 4 lbs of bacon that I needed to cook. I’ve been making it in the oven but the house still smells. So my husband went out to our grill and put a cast iron skillet right on the grates and cooked all the bacon. Now we have plenty of bacon in the freezer and he has a new task that he’s responsible for!
I love the makeup cloths as well! I have two girls (grown know) but it still saves me washcloths when they visit!!
