DO NEUTRALS LOOK GOOD WITH BRIGHT COLORS
If you have only been following me for a short time, then you might not know that I occasionally get gifts and rewards from the skincare business that I own. One of the rewards was for a trip for Joe and me, and we had the choice of 10 different destinations from which we could choose. But, we kept putting off making plans for the trip because we could agree on where we wanted to go. I knew that we had a year to choose our destination, so I procrastinated. Are any of you a procrastinator?
Fast forward to April when we were supposed to give our decision. Who would have ever known that COVID 19 was going to hit, and going on a trip anywhere was going to be a thing of the past? So, I got an email asking me if I wanted to postpone the trip until August of this year, or if I wanted the money equivalent put on a MasterCard. I chose to take the money since I wasn’t sure if I would be traveling in August. I had earned TWO trips, so I had decided to keep one of the cards to pay for a potential trip and use the other card to purchase lawn furniture for the patio.
After looking and looking for lawn furniture that I wanted, I threw up my hands in defeat. What I wanted wasn’t practical because of the cat’s and also because we lived beside the train tracks. So, I asked Joe if he would rather have a new mattress instead of the lawn furniture. He couldn’t say yes fast enough, and he already had the mattress picked out. Today our new Purple mattress arrived, and I can’t wait to try it out. If any of you have the Purple mattress, let me know how long it will take to adjust.
You all know that I have been in a neutral mood lately. This gorgeous sweater satisfies my neutral attitude, but it also is perfect for the part of me who loves color. I love the relaxed feel of this light and airy sweater. The dolman 3/4 sleeves keep the sweater roomy, and the deep v-neck is flattering for every body shape. The sweater is a linen and cotton blend that is machine washable. I am wearing a size 1, which is an 8-10, and you can see that fits me perfectly. You can wear this top casual or as dressy as you like. I think that it will look great with jeans and a pair of heels also. HERE is the link to the sweater.
I LOVE the “love” jewelry! The love necklace doesn’t show well in the photos, but it is covered in tiny little crystals for a small amount of bling. This necklace is from the Styled Collection, and HERE is the link. I was so excited when I found the love bracelet that almost matches it exactly. It is from Lilly Pulitzer, and I love the fact that it is adjustable. It can fit the smallest wrist and also larger ones. HERE is the link to the bracelet. The Bamboo hoop earrings (HERE) are also from Lilly Pulitizer. I love the tropical vibe of earrings, and I think that they are a perfect size. The Rue long necklace finishes the look and frames the love necklace. I like wearing a long necklace, especially when wearing a shorter necklace. HERE is the link to the necklace.
If I want to keep the outfit in neutral shades, then these So Slimming Brigitte Button-Hem Ankle Pants from Chicos are a perfect choice. I am wearing a sand color, but I also own this pant in navy and black. I like that they are a pull-on style and that they fit so nicely. With Chicos, I have found that I need to size down in pants, especially if they are stretchy like these. I usually wear a size 10, which is a size 1.5 in Chico sizes. But, when the pants are stretchy, I wear a size .05, which is a size 6. While I appreciate the ego boost, I know that I am still a size 10 in real life. Lol!!! HERE is the link to the pants.
But, if I want to brighten up my look with some color, then these Pixie Pants from Old Navy did the trick. These pants are old, and I bought them at least a year ago. When you purchase colors that you like, you will often find that you have other items in your closet that will match them. I can’t find these on any websites, but I found some purple-ish pants for you to consider.
The wedge espadrilles (HERE) are from Target, and I love the two-toned color scheme. I wore these the other day (HERE) with another Lilly top, and boot cut jeans, and I thought they looked great. I like how they are a neutral pair so that I can wear them with lots of different colors. These fit me perfectly, and I am wearing my usual size 9.
I’ve had a couple of people message me about my new doormat that I posted about that (HERE), I thought I would mention it for a few days. I bought this at Frontgate, and it is so lovely and very thick. In fact, I have been known to stub my toe when I am taking pictures since I am not used to its height. Lol! HERE is the link to this incredible doormat.
Do you think that it was planned for me to talk about buying a Purple mattress and wear purple-ish pants? Silly gurls, you know that I am not that organized. Lol! I do want to know if any of you have the Purple mattress, though, and I am also curious to see which of these looks you like the best.

I like the pink/purple pants. Very pretty.
I like the purple pants, they show off the top better. I just ordered the ‘love’ bracelet from Lilly P. Can’t wait to get it!
Definitely the pink/purple pants. Really cheers up the outfit. Can you tell me which style of the purple mattress you purchased? I have been looking at them for a while.
Linda
Oh my gosh, I love the pink pants! They really pull out the color in the sweater, which is beautiful!
I’m anxious to hear about your purple mattress, as we are starting to look for a new one!
Cute sweater and I like it with the pink pants!
Love the pink pants and neutral shoes!
We have a purple mattress and it is the best investment that I have ever made! It only took about 3 nights for us and we were sleeping like babies! You will love it! No more aches and pains!
Both looks are great! Just depends on what kind of mood you’re in!
I love my purple mattress ?. We’ve had it since November 2019. I was having pain from my hip to my toes. It fixed it ?. It took me a week to get used to it. My daughter has had one for several years. I totally understand why they don’t like staying upstairs in our guest room that is not a purple. One day I will replace them. We also have the pillows and I recently purchased the chair cushion as I am teaching college level nursing virtually from home. Purple is a life saver.
Marvella, I have the chair cushion also. Plus, Joe and my daughter have the original Purple pillows, and I have the Purple Harmony.
The purple pants look way better to me. The neutral pants look washed out.
I like the texture of that sweater. I’m a texture lover. I think I live the pop of color in the pants because it brings out the color in the top but those buttons are so cute on the neutral. We are looking for a new mattress too so will be curious to see what you think. They have the dumbest commercial. ?
My favorite is the pop of color on the pants. Both look great on you.
I think the pink pants outfit looks the best. Pink is definitely your color.
Hi Tania,
I’m not a fan of purple (it’s a long story …) but my husband said he was interested in that mattress also. I will await the updates!
As for the sweater — per my usual habit I checked into it and I found it in 4 solid colors as well and my page showed 40% off on the $89 solids. I got my new Chico’s “catalog” (it’s actually a multi page color brochure of gorgeous new items) and it’s chock full of neutrals plus a fair amount of blues in pastel shades.
I’m a fan of shorter sleeve sweaters because I don’t wreck them shoving them up my arms to do dishes. The alternative is to take off the sweater LOL! So if you can imagine dishwashing in one’s brassiere..
I do have an automatic dishwasher but I still have to wash pots and pans and knives by hand.
Looking forward to the mattress update!
The sweater is really pretty, love the color, and it looks great on you. I prefer the sweater with the brighter pants, to me, the light pants makes the whole outfit wash away.
I like the brighter colors also. It is funny, the light pants looked better in person than they did in the photos.
Love the look with the pixie pants, but like you I love color, so I think that swayed my decision! Looks great on you.
I am a “color” person also. Lol!
I love the pink Tanya!
I think that it really stands out.
Love the sweater and the pink pants!! Of course the neutral pants are always good to have. Those are my go to black, navy, khaki etc….
Neutrals are always a go-to, but it is so much fun to have items that make a statement also.
Really like that shade of pink.
Thanks!!!
I’ve never heard of the purple mattress, so I’m no help there. I am trying to get brave enough to wear colored pants so have begun to order as I find them on sale. In the past, I have always gone the “safe to me” route and worn neutrals. Both outfits look great on you.
Michele, I am thrilled that you are willing to branch out! Getting items when they are on sale is the smart thing to do.
Love the purple pants!! Excited to hear about the mattress too!
Our first night was good on the new mattress, but I’ll update everyone later.
Pretty sweater. I like it with the pink pants best. Happy Friday!
The pink/purple pants makes the top show up so nicely.
I ordered my doormat almost immediately after I saw it on your blog. I, too, had to get used to it’s thickness! I love it! Very pretty, and doesn’t slide around at all.
The doormat is gorgeous and so thick and heavy.
I come across the bloc last week love what I see and read I am 47 years old it will help a lot. Thank you
I am so glad that you’ve found my page and that it is helping you.
Have a great weekend! Hope to see you on my Fancy Friday linkup party!
I like both looks equally. I think the neutral pants are a more casual look and the pink are more dressy. The sweater is really pretty!
I think that the pink/purple pants look dressier also.
