Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a white v neck t-shirt, distressed jean shorts, and a open knit long cardigan with Sperry no-tie sneakersI hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. Here is Virginia, we had monsoon rains, and then blistering sunshine. All of that leads to some muggy conditions that make your glasses, phone, and cameras fog up. When I went outside to take some photos of a couple of my outfits, I had to take the camera and tripod out and leave it for about 15 minutes. The lens on the camera had to adjust to the temperature before I could take my photos. I tried taking some without doing that, and it looks like I am some kind of monster around the foggy lagoon. Am I the only one who saw that movie? Lol!

Conditions like that also leave you with damp and flat hair, and you might as well get ready to see your makeup slide off of your face. The crazy part is, I don’t even live in the deep south where it gets hot and muggy. I am sure my gurls who live in those southern states can back me up on my assessment. If you live in a hot climate, then you stay indoors as much as possible and work in the early morning or late afternoon. I feel for those who have to work out in the heat of the day, such as builders (like my dad and brother) or those who work on roads. Talk about brutal!!! If you have to be outside during the heat of the day, make sure you wear a good sunscreen, wear a hat, take breaks when you can, and stay hydrated with water.

Wearing white also helps you to stay cooler in the summer. You should try to stay away from dark colors such as black and dark navy since they absorb the heat. I love white t-shirts all year round, but I especially love them in the summer. I try and replace them each year since they are fairly inexpensive, and it is almost impossible for me to keep from getting stains on them. The shirt that I have on today is a v-neck slim fit tee by A New Day from Target. I am wearing a large in the tee, and it fits me perfectly.

I wanted to add a layer to my outfit and give it a pop of color. Adding the open-knit open front cardigan gave my outfit visual interest, and it also added an element of whimsy. This cute striped cardigan would be perfect for a beach coverup also, but I thought it looked adorable with my shorts. Even though the cardigan has long sleeves, it is not hot since the knit is open and loose.

The cardigan also has a hoodie attached. I doubt that I will pull that up, but it is still a unique detail that makes the cardigan different from others. This cardigan comes in white also, so be sure to check that color out. This cardigan ran big, in my opinion, so I would suggest sizing down. I am wearing a medium, but I could have worn a small instead.

You can’t believe how shocked I am at myself for wearing these slip-on sneakers by Sperry. Sneakers are not normally something that I wear, but I love the “no-tie” rawhide lases and the nautical look that these sneakers have. I ordered these shoes but ended up sending them back because they were too big. I had to size down in these and order an 8 1/2, instead of my usual size 9. But, once I sized down, they fit me great. These have linen uppers, and a memory foam insole, so they are comfortable all day long.

I did add a little jewelry to my look. I think that accessories make an outfit, so I try to add some to all of my looks. I will even wear earrings and a necklace, sometimes with my bathing suit. Lol! The long silver rope necklace is one that I’ve had for a while. I wanted a longer necklace in silver that would work for dressy or casual styles. The Val silver hoop earrings have iridescent crystals on them, and they are a large earring but very lightweight. I also added a short necklace that sits in the v of my tee, and that is the Jae silver choker, which happens to be out of stock. However, you can get on the email list, and they will shoot you an email when it comes back in stock. I just got the matching silver star bracelet, and it is in stock if you would like to try that. You’ve heard me mention that I am shocked at how often that I’ve worn these slip-on sneakers by Sperry. Sneakers are generally not something that I wear, but I love the “no-tie” rawhide lases and the nautical look that these sneakers have. I ordered these shoes but ended up sending them back because they were too big. I had to size down in these and order an 8 1/2 instead of my usual size 9. But, once I sized down, they fit me great. I can already see a lot of you rolling your eyes because you don’t like distressed anything, OR, you don’t like shorts. So, for you ladies, create the same look with items that aren’t distressed or with jeans. Problem solved!!! There are times that you need to look at my outfit, and then figure out how to make it work for you. I’ve not had these shorts very long, but they are already sold out in all of the sizes, except for 0, 12, 14, and 16. If you are an of those sizes, then here is the link for you. For the rest of you, I’ll link some other options below. I am wearing a size 10, and they fit me perfectly.

  1. I follow your blog everyday and I love your taste, your devotions and your stories. I must have missed something because you talked about your cleanse and I guessed I missed that. I would love for you to brief me on that
    Thanks
    Regina

  2. Actually they still have 0, 2, 6 and 14. I’m glad I looked…as I need the 6! Love the outfit…and. yes….it’s hot a sweaty out there! Stay cool, safe and healthy!

  3. I love the distressed look!!!

  4. I loved the total look and even though I don’t need a thing right now I did order the cardigan in the other color. It will be perfect with jeans, shorts, slacks plus great for right now and into early fall. Love your blog. I read it every morning while drinking my green tea, before I go out the door for a walk.

  5. At first I looked at your outfit and thought ….ok. I do like the distressed shorts. In my early 70’s I wear distressed capris and jeans. I just feel edgy! they don’t show skin, however, and are pretty discreet! After I saw the hoodie on the sweater I liked it! It gave the sweater a wow affect!
Just must ask, so you were on fruits and veggies only for 2 weeks…..does that include bloody marys?!!!!
    Had to ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
You are such an inspiration, should try the same fast!

  6. LOVE your Walmart clothes. Thanks for your blog. I have been reading it for several years now.

  7. I love to read your blog everyday, I buy several white tops every season. I do have a question for you. We spent the past year, refreshing our home. One area in my home, I had a huge jewelry display with so much stuff I no longer wear and am tired of. Could you do a article about jewelry, things that are staples and maybe other items that aren’t necessary but are some all time favorites. Turning 60 the end of July and want to wear more current and not over the top jewelry. Thank you for the opportunity.
