How to Shop the 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Without Wasting Money
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is almost here, and I know many of you look forward to it every year. I do, too.
My first year shopping the sale in person was when I traveled to Atlanta to stay with my sister. We shopped until we dropped, and somehow that turned into an annual tradition. This year, after six years of driving multiple hours to shop the sale, I’ve decided to shop online instead.
Over the years, I’ve learned that the best way to shop this sale isn’t to buy everything everyone else is talking about. It is to make a plan, know what your closet needs, and grab your true must-haves before the most popular sizes disappear.
A Quick Note About Shopping Through My Links
Before we get into all the sale details, I want to explain something that helps support the work I do here.
The links in this post (and all my other blog posts) are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission when you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.
Affiliate credit usually goes to the last eligible link you click before checking out. So, when you shop through one of my links, it helps me tremendously if you go ahead and complete your purchase before visiting another blogger’s website or clicking another affiliate link.
That commission allows me to order the clothes, try everything on, take photos, check the fabric and fit, and tell you honestly what is worth buying and what should stay at the store. Your support helps me continue creating the content you enjoy, and I appreciate it more than you know.
Now, let’s talk about the sale.
What Is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is different from most sales because it isn’t simply a clearance event.
Nordstrom marks down brand-new fall merchandise before the season begins. You can shop for new clothing, shoes, beauty products, handbags, home items, and everyday basics at reduced prices for a limited time. After the event ends, the prices go back up on the remaining Anniversary Sale merchandise.
That is why this sale gets so much attention. You aren’t only shopping leftover summer pieces; you are getting early access to upcoming fall styles at sale prices.
I usually pay the most attention to higher-priced items that I know I’ll use, such as:
- Premium denim
- Leather shoes and boots
- Coats and jackets
- Cashmere and quality sweaters
- Bras and underwear
- Beauty products I already use
- Handbags
- Bedding and home items
Of course, a sale price does not automatically make something a good purchase. A sweater you don’t need is still money spent, even when Nordstrom says you saved 40 percent.
When Is the 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
The 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to everyone on July 18 and runs through August 9. Nordstrom cardmembers receive Early Access based on their Nordy Club status.
Here are the shopping dates:
Icons: July 14–17
Ambassadors: July 15–17
Influencers: July 16–17
Everyone: July 18–August 9
The sale preview is already available, so you can browse and start building your Wish List before your shopping date arrives. Nordstrom is also encouraging shoppers to prepare their Wish Lists ahead of time.
Do You Need a Nordstrom Card?
No. Everyone can shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale beginning July 18.
A Nordstrom credit card is required to shop during Early Access. Your access date depends on your Nordy Club status.
I am not going to tell anyone to open a credit card just to get first dibs on a sweater. A credit card is a financial decision, and you should only apply if it makes sense for you.
At the very least, you can create a free Nordstrom account and join The Nordy Club. That makes it easier to save your Wish Lists, keep track of purchases, and have your shipping information ready before the sale begins.
Shop Your Closet Before You Shop the Sale
This may be the most important step, and it is one I haven’t emphasized enough in previous years.
Before you start adding things to your Wish List, take a look inside your own closet.
Think about what you wore constantly last fall. What needs replacing? What did you keep wishing you had? Which pieces would help you wear more of the clothes you already own?
Maybe you need a better pair of jeans, a comfortable loafer, a casual jacket, or a neutral handbag. You may also discover that you already own enough sweaters to outfit the entire neighborhood.
The sale is designed to tempt you, and it does a very good job. Nordstrom and I occasionally have very different opinions about what my closet needs. Lol!
Before adding an item to your list, ask yourself:
- Does this fill a real gap in my wardrobe?
- Can I wear it with at least three things I already own?
- Does it fit my actual lifestyle?
- Would I notice it if it weren’t marked down?
- Will I still like it after the excitement of the sale is over?
The goal isn’t to buy the most. The goal is to buy a few things you’ll be glad you own.
Create More Than One Wish List
The Nordstrom Wish List is one of the best tools for shopping the sale.
Instead of putting everything into one enormous list, I organize mine by category. That makes it much easier to compare similar items and decide what I truly want.
My lists usually include:
- Jeans and pants
- Sweaters and tops
- Jackets and coats
- Shoes
- Handbags and accessories
- Beauty
- Must Haves
The Must-Haves list is for the items I would be genuinely disappointed to miss. When my access opens, I go directly to that list, add those items to my cart, and check out.
After that order is complete, I go back and look at everything else.
That keeps my most-wanted pieces from getting buried underneath twenty things I added while drinking coffee and imagining a fall social calendar that does not exist.
Check Out Your Must-Haves First
Placing an item in your cart does not necessarily reserve it.
Popular sizes and colors can sell out while you are still browsing. I’ve had an item appear to be available, only to find out later that it sold out before my order finished processing.
That is why I check out my must-haves first instead of continuing to shop with them sitting in my cart.
Yes, you may end up placing several orders. It isn’t the neatest approach, but neither is staring at a sold-out page and muttering under your breath.
Nordstrom currently offers free standard shipping, so placing more than one order does not automatically mean paying extra shipping charges.
Know Your Sizes Before the Sale Starts
Sizing can vary wildly from brand to brand.
I may wear one size in a pair of jeans and need a completely different size in another brand. That is why I check the size chart, product measurements, and reviews before ordering.
Look for reviewers who mention their height, body shape, and usual size. That information is much more helpful than a review that simply says, “Cute!”
For pants and jeans, pay attention to:
- Rise
- Inseam
- Leg opening
- Fabric content
- Amount of stretch
- Petite, regular, tall, and plus-size availability
A pair of jeans can look cropped on a 5’10″ model and drag the floor on someone who is 5’3″.
Fabric content matters, too. Jeans made with 100 percent cotton will fit and feel different from denim with stretch. Neither is necessarily better, but you need to know what you are ordering.
For sweaters, coats, and jackets, look at the garment length, sleeve length, fabric blend, lining, and care instructions.
A beautiful wool sweater isn’t much of a bargain if it makes you itch like you rolled through insulation.
Order Two Sizes When It Makes Sense
For an item that is likely to sell out, I sometimes order two sizes.
I know that sounds like a nuisance, but waiting for one size to arrive and then trying to exchange it can be risky. The other size may be gone by then.
Nordstrom offers free returns, which makes this easier, but I still try to use good judgment. I don’t order every size and hope one works.
I usually order two sizes when:
- I’m between sizes
- The reviews are inconsistent
- The fabric has little or no stretch
- The brand is new to me
- The item is expected to sell quickly
Once I know which size fits, I return the other promptly so someone else has a chance to buy it.
Shop for the Life You Actually Live
The Anniversary Sale is filled with beautiful blazers, heels, coats, and dressy pieces. But before you order something, think honestly about how you spend most of your time.
If your days are mostly casual, focus on items that work for errands, lunch, church, travel, family gatherings, or everyday life.
Comfortable jeans, washable sweaters, casual jackets, supportive shoes, and easy tops may serve you better than four new office blazers.
I love beautiful clothes, but I’ve become much pickier about what I add to my closet. An item has to fit well, feel comfortable, and work with the life I’m actually living.
Joe may appreciate a glamorous outfit, but he usually sees me at home in something comfortable while I’m working on the blog. That is real life, gurls.
The Categories I Shop First
Some categories tend to offer better opportunities during the Anniversary Sale, especially when the regular prices are higher.
Jeans and Pants You’ll Wear Regularly
Premium denim can be expensive, so this can be a good time to try a brand you’ve been considering.
Choose a cut that works for your body and wardrobe. You’ll see wide-leg, straight, flare, barrel, and slimmer styles, but you don’t need to buy a trend you already know you dislike.
The right jeans are the ones you will actually wear.
Sweaters That Add Something New
Before buying another sweater, look at what you already own.
Instead of adding another basic that looks like six others in your closet, search for a flattering neckline, useful color, interesting texture, or shape that adds something different.
I look for sweaters that work with jeans, trousers, and skirts and that can be layered under a jacket without feeling bulky.
Comfortable Shoes
Sneakers, loafers, flats, boots, and walking shoes are usually popular during the sale.
Comfort is my first concern. I check the toe shape, heel height, sole, arch support, and reviews before ordering.
A pretty shoe that hurts your feet is just expensive closet decoration.
Jackets and Coats
A good jacket can make jeans and a plain top look completely different, and a quality coat may last for years.
Before buying, think about what you will wear underneath it. A winter coat needs enough room for a sweater, and a jacket should coordinate with several outfits you already own.
Bras, Underwear, and Basics
This isn’t the most exciting part of the sale, but it may be one of the most useful.
Bras, underwear, pajamas, socks, T-shirts, and activewear are items you use regularly. Nordstrom includes wardrobe staples and lingerie among the Anniversary Sale categories.
I’m much more likely to appreciate a bra that fits well every week than a dress I wear once.
Beauty Products You Already Use
The beauty department often offers special sets, jumbo sizes, and combinations created for the sale.
These can be excellent buys when they include products you already know and use. A large bottle is not a bargain when you discover you hate the scent, texture, or formula.
No one needs a vat of regret sitting on the bathroom counter.
Shop Online First, Even If You Plan to Visit a Store
I love shopping the sale in person with my sister, but I usually shop online first.
The online selection is often larger, and it is much easier to compare colors, sizes, measurements, and reviews without feeling rushed.
Stores can be busy, and your local store may not carry every item. You can shop online, select store pickup when available, and still enjoy trying things on in person.
Shopping online also helps me stay focused. Too many racks, people, signs, and yellow bags can give me sensory overload. By the time I’ve walked through three departments, I’m liable to forget why I came.
Download the Nordstrom App
The Nordstrom app makes it easier to manage your Wish Lists and keep an eye on sold-out items.
You can turn on notifications for price changes and restocks. Items often reappear as orders are canceled or returned.
You don’t need to hold your phone all day and refresh the page every four minutes. That is what notifications are for, although I make no promises that I won’t check anyway.
Keep Checking for Restocks
A sold-out item may not be gone for good.
Sizes can come back into stock as orders are canceled and returns are processed. This happens throughout the sale, especially after the first shipments begin arriving.
Check periodically, but don’t let the sale become a part-time job.
There will always be another sweater, another pair of jeans, or another shoe. Fashion has never suffered from a shortage of merchandise.
Don’t Let the Sale Price Make the Decision
The phrase “Anniversary Sale price” can make an item feel more urgent than it really is.
Before you buy, ask yourself:
- Would I want this at its regular price?
- Do I already own something similar?
- Can I afford it without carrying a credit card balance?
- Does it work with my wardrobe?
- Will I wear it enough to justify the cost?
You are allowed to admire something and leave it at Nordstrom.
The best purchase isn’t always the item everyone else is rushing to buy. It is the one you are still wearing and enjoying months later.
My 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Shopping Plan
This year, I’ll be concentrating on styles that work for women over 50 who want comfort, versatility, and clothing that feels current without being difficult to wear.
One Last Thing
Make your Wish Lists now, identify your true must-haves, and keep your sizes and measurements nearby.
When your shopping window opens, buy your must-haves first and check out before continuing to browse. Then go back and look at the rest with a clear head.
Shop early when you can, but don’t let the fear of missing out make your decisions. The best purchase isn’t the thing that sells out first. It is the thing you’ll be happy to reach for again and again after the sale is long over.
Here are a few of my early favorites…more to follow.
Turtleneck Merino Wool Sweater
I’ve grabbed a Turtleneck Merino Wool Sweater the last few years during the NSale! They are great for those fall days in late September and early October, whenever I’m ready to pull out my fall clothes, but alas, the weather is still too hot now. This one from Eileen Fisher comes in a few different colors, including this pretty wren shade. I currently have a few of these. I grab them every year, but they sell out FAST!!
Frame Boyfriend Jeans
You can find quality items from really big brands at great prices, so don’t forget to check out the jeans! I loved these Frame Boyfriend Jeans and thought they would look nice over a heel, booties, or loafers for the office!
Short Sleeve Cashmere Sweater
This is the time to stock up on tops and sweaters, gurls! I LOVE Short Sleeve Cashmere Sweater, and I’m picturing all the ways I could wear it right now. It comes in four different colors in sizes XXS to XXL.
‘Ab’Solution Raw Hem High Waist Bootcut Jeans

These Skyrise Raw Hem High Waist Stretch Bootcut Jeans are a rock retro style in slim-fitting bootcut jeans featuring a superhigh waist, comfy stretch, and ‘Ab ‘solution powermesh panels that mold and hold! Talk about support! Women with all body types seek out Wit & Wisdom clothing, particularly the brand’s famous “Ab-solution” jeans, which offer slimming, shaping, and lifting in all the right places.
Mercer Suede Hobo Bag
You gurls know I love investing in designer handbags, and this sale is the perfect time to do it since Nordstrom carries brands like Dolce Vita, Coach, Tory Burch, AllSaints, Longchamp, Kate Spade, and more! This Mercer Suede Hobo Bag comes in a gorgeous pecan that will look great with your fall booties and belts, and it’s almost $100 off during the sale. You can also grab it in chocolate; yum! Here is where you can find splurge-worthy designer bags at the NSale!

Verse Of The Day
Psalms 77:11 (NIV)
11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

Hi! Have you ever done plus sizes? I know you are not lol. You’ve got the petites and regular sizes covered. Maybe once in a while mention that something comes in extended sizes. I love your emails. They are the first thing I look at every day!
Leah
Leah, I have done plus sized posts before. I’ll look into doing another one soon.
Great ideas in general for getting ready to shop, it has given me such great solutions. Love the brown cashmere, it would match a pair of pants I had just gotten!! Now I will have to look for it. Again thanks for the ideas.
Great advice , Tania❗️
