Today, I am going to tell you about two trends for 2021, and I am actually wearing them today. Can you spot the trends??? Before I get into the trends, let me tell you Joe is jumping for joy today. In case you are new here at 50isnotold, Joe is my husband of 34 years, and he is quite a mess.

This has been a LONG winter for him, and to say that he has been bored would be an understatement. He has watched some series on his computer so much that I am starting to go half crazy. It is about some naval officer name Hornblower (I might have spelled that wrong), and even though it has driven me batty listening to it as I write the blog, it has kept him occupied.

But, TODAY, he finally gets to go and play golf for the first time this year. He is almost ecstatic, and, truthfully, so am I. He needs the fresh air, the sunshine, and something other than a naval officer named Hornblower occupying his mind. Lol!

I am not sure why I ordered this waffle-knit cowl neck sweater, especially since I am not a fan of the waffle-knit texture. It reminds me of the old-timey insulated underwear that my dad used to wear when I was a young girl. That has never been the look that I was going after.

But, this sweater somehow found its way into my cart, and I am so glad that it did. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time that I’ve worn this sweater, but it is the first time that I could grab a photo for all of you. I love everything about this sweater, it is so comfy, and I find it flattering.

The sweater has a relaxed fit, and I am wearing a medium. Relaxed fit seems to be the BUZZ word this year, probably since so many of us are used to wearing loungewear and being comfortable. The sweater has side slits and a hi/lo hem, making it great for wearing with leggings.

This color has already sold out, but I also ordered the red and the gray ones. At the rate that I am wearing this one, I’m going to wear it out before long. Lol!

I decided to mix my metals today, so I am wearing a little bit of everything. The Natalie gold statement earrings remind me of a rattan basket. Today was the first time that I’ve worn them, and I got several compliments when I went to the dentist. These are lightweight, and they have a nice boho vibe to them.

I added the Byzantine wooden cross from the Crosses of the World collection. When I wear sweaters or something with a collar, I like adding a long necklace to the look. I mentioned that to my sister, and she said that she preferred wearing shorter necklaces. It is all a matter of preference, and you should wear what you like and makes you happy.

The last part of my jewelry was a mixed media magnetic bracelet that combines gold and silver tones. This look takes all of the guesswork out of which metal to wear and how to layer your bracelets.

Have you spotted the two trends yet? Trend number one; belts! Since I hardly ever wear a belt, that should have been a clue for you. Belts of every kind are trending this year. Belts with jeans, dresses, over a coat, wrap belts, shiny belts, and wide and skinny belts are all trending. I am wearing one that I bought last year, and I liked it since it is adjustable and doesn’t have holes.

The second trend is relaxed-fit jeans. That doesn’t mean baggy; it means jeans that don’t show every lump and bump on your legs. Even with the relaxed fit being the trend, skinny jeans aren’t out; they are not the “it” thing right now. The girlfriend style is my preferred look since I find the boyfriend style too baggy on me. However, that might be because we are used to everything fitting tight. As we warm up to the idea of a looser fit, the boyfriend style might become more appealing.

The girlfriend jeans that I am wearing are from Ann Taylor Factory, but they are sold out unless you are a size 0 or a 2. So, I’ll see if I can find some similar ones that you will like.

I think that it creates a cohesive look when your belt and your shoes match. It may just be me, but I think it makes an outfit look put-together instead of something you randomly threw on. It looks like you put thought into what you were going to wear, and it shows.

These Tory Burch ballet flats were a splurge for me a couple of years ago when I earned a $1,000.00 shopping spree at Nordstrom. One of the reasons I love the Minnie ballet flat from Tory Burch is that I can wear it all year round. If I am going to shell out megabucks (even if the money was given to me), I want to get my money’s worth. These are the iconic shoe from this brand, and it goes with everything. They are comfortable, and I am wearing my usual size 9 in them.

HERE is the link to the shoes and some similar ones at a better price point.

  1. Great ideas, thanks for them!

  2. Love the sweater color and the entire outfit looks great on you. I do not see the tummy on you that you keep referring to. You look great! Maybe Joe will be in a better mood after golf. I’m so glad my hubby gets out of the house on a regular basis to ride with his buddies. LOL!

  3. I like to mix metals too. Silver/gold/bronze. The bracelet is really pretty and the whole outfit screams my name!

  4. I used what I learned this week and hit the heart on a pair of shoes to get sale notifications.😁

  5. The front tuck is such a hit or miss with me. I think it depends on the sweater or top to make it look right. I sometimes get that “won’t lay flat over my stomach look” so it just doesn’t work for me. I like the look but not so much on me. Have a great day!

  6. Charlcy Green says:

That is a pretty color on you and emphasizes your eyes! And as always, you put everything together perfectly! Those jeans are really cute w the flats and the belt and necklace really bring it all together! And YAY Joe! Being outside w friends rocks!

  7. Are the affiliate websites verified for authenticity?

  8. If those are relaxed fit jeans, I wouldn’t want to see “skinny” ones! They look nice, but there’s no room to spare, which is my definition of skinny. I recently bought some “girlfriend” jeans, and they are more like the jeans of yore, which we simply called “jeans”. I can’t find a pair made for women that actually qualifies as loose or boyfriend (regardless of what they are called) anywhere. For the record, I’m 5’6″ and 130 lbs, so it’s not a size issue.

  9. Tania, your posts this week have been so informative. Thank you for your dedication to helping us feel great about our fashion and for providing so many options and price points. Darling transitional sweater, will stop by Old Navy today!

  10. I also wanted to suggest the ratchet belt. I got a really good looking one on Amazon, looks like a classic belt, but i love the way is can adjust so easily…just had a big dinner? bam. Just remember to figure out how to release BEFORE you have to go to the bathroom. I speak from experience. I had to google the belt to figure it out while dancing around.

  11. Tucking in my shirt and wearing a belt like I did in my 30’s scares me now! But… always up for trying something different. Thanks for helping me see the possibilities!

  12. Carol A Rybka says:

Loved the look today and I’m definitely buying the sweater from Old Navy. Only red left but I’m good with that. Such a fun relaxed look for running errands

  13. I am always looking for a series my husband would enjoy and quickly googled Hornblower – guess what came up? Hornblower Cruises! LOL! He could channel his inner Horatio.

Thanks for being the bright spot for so many of our days!

  14. Sue Epling says:

Very cute outfit, I can picture myself wearing it! I never miss your post and appreciate your dedication in writing it daily. Coffee and Tania, great start to my day ❤

  15. Vickie S Dudley says:

I know all about Horatio Hornblower as my hubby went through that phase a few years ago. Bless.

The posts this week have been amazing! And it’s only Wednesday. Thanks for your hard work and wonderful inspiration!

  16. Dianna Boothe says:

I like the belt on u! Another great idea…i have all in my closet already!

  17. Love the outfit. The jeans are great.
