Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a Bubblegum pink button pullover sweatshirt, straight leg jeans, and pink gingham sneakers

If you did not see yesterday’s post, you will want to check that out since I told you about two trends coming our way this spring. Today, I am once again showing you two trends, but one is a repeat from yesterday. I guess that means that I am only showing you one new trend, but I will tell you all about the color themes that are trending this year.

Pantone always picks a color, or colors, of the year. This year the colors are illuminating and ultimate gray. Illuminating is a very bright yellow which some of you might find hard to wear, but almost everyone can wear gray. If you want to appear modern and trendy, then pick a few items with these colors to add to your wardrobe.

Bright yellow is not my best color, but I can still incorporate it into my wardrobe. I look for scarves or jewelry with colors that I want to add to an outfit. I can also add a particular color to my wardrobe that doesn’t look great near my face is to buy shoes, handbags, or even pants in that color. Here are a few examples of things that you might choose.

Another trending color this year is Bubblegum Pink. Yay!!! This is a color that I can get behind. I am partial to pink, and the bubblegum, or Barbie pink, is one of my favorites. I love this button neck pullover sweatshirt!!! It is soft, and I love the way that it fits me. As soon as I tried this on, I went in and ordered the one in navy also.

The buttons are working buttons, not just for decorations so that you can unbutton them for a different look. I am wearing a large pullover, and I like the oversized relaxed fit that it gives me. Dang, I am also tempted to grab the vintage green one since St. Patrick’s Day will be here in less than a month.

Can you tell by my hair that the wind is swirling today? I wanted to give you a glimpse of the back of the pullover. It is not long like I would like if I am wearing leggings out in public, but it would be fine around the house.

Here is a closeup of the button detail, and if you look closely, you can see my Tima oversized gold stud earrings. I like that these earrings are large and oversized, but they aren’t too big or flashy. They are chic and elegant, and I think they look great with almost anything.

These pink gingham sneakers scream SPRING! You have to type in all caps if you are going to scream. Lol! These are super cute and a great way to bring pink into your wardrobe if you don’t want to wear it near your face. I ordered my usual size 9, but they are too big for me, so I’ll have to send them back. I suggest that you size down at least a half size in these.

The second trend is the straight-leg jeans trend. These jeans are a pair by NYDJ, and I’ve had them for quite a while. I love the dark wash, and I think that it helps the pink pullover pop even more. I am wearing a size 8 in these jeans, instead of my usual size 10. They run a tad big, so sizing down was called for.

Color Themes:

Besides specific colors that will be trending this coming year, you will also have color combinations and patterns that will trend. Earth tones and neutrals will continue to be popular. I love wearing white with camel in spring, and I think it is a very classic, classy, and chic combination.

Black and white is also a classic combination that will continue to trend this year. Did you see all of the black and white clothing the Chico’s came out with this spring?

Monochromatic outfits are also trending, and this is another classic look that is very chic looking. I have several monochromatic loungewear outfits ordered since elegant loungewear is also a trend for the coming year.

Especially in the spring of the year, florals will be trending as well as stripes. Stripes have been around for a couple of years, but it is a pattern that is still going strong. Florals are coming on strong this spring, and I’ve seen them in all of the stores already.

Tania, do you find that the top is stretchy? I had been eyeing it a few days ago, then saw how nice it looks on you, but by the time I went in to order the link they only had smalls left. I am only 5′ 1″ but worry that it may be too small.

    Hi Tania,

I love that top! I have it in green and just love the color. You are right in saying it’s soft. It’s one of my favorites to wear around the house or stop off at the grocery store. I am considering buying it in Navy to wear with white jeans. I’m 5ft. 1 1/2″ tall, 136 lbs wear a small in this top and it fits relaxed. I have been eyeing the shoes but have not made up my mind on purchasing them. Thanks for the tip on sizing!

Since you like pink, check out the Bold Striped Crewneck Sweatshirt on J. Crew Factory in “Ivory Neon Flamingo.” I just purchased it (received last week) and it’s super cute.

    Have a great day!

OMGoodness that explains why I had a hard time, yesterday, finding a pair of straight leg jeans in a size 8 when shopping online. I never forgot from “What Not to Wear” show, that straight leg jeans are the most universally flattering. Glad to hear they are back, though I have come to love the skinnies and they look great on you all the time too.

I love the bubble gum color in today’s outfit. I have actually purchased some pink pants and a pink bag for this Spring.
    Have a great day Tania!

I have really enjoyed the past few days’ posts. I’m a part-time caregiver for my Mom so casual is the way I dress now. Plus the pandemic has kept me from dressing up much at all so this is right down my alley. Love the pretty sweatshirt and dark jeans combo. Thank you for all your work!
