Affordable Lightweight Sweaters For Summer 2023

I’m beginning to think you ladies are like me, and you like tops more than bottoms. I will buy at least ten tops for every pair of bottoms. Last week, I did a couple of posts on lightweight tops, and I got a few requests for sweaters. Since everyone’s weather and temperatures are different, I’m showing lightweight sweaters for summer today.

Unless I mention otherwise, everything fits in the size I’ve ordered. Each photo has the links underneath, including the size I’m wearing. For sizing reference, I’m 5’6″ tall, weigh between 150-155, and usually wear a size 8 in bottoms and between a medium and a large in tops.

You can click on any highlighted wording to be taken to the retailer.

Pullover Lightweight Sweaters For Summer

I like to include a “basic” white sweater in my wardrobe. This sweater will be a workhorse item that can be worn with anything and everything. It shouldn’t have any fancy bells and whistles, which keeps it from standing out.

Usually, I’m all about unique details, but I don’t want them to be memorable on items I intend to wear a lot.

This White Puff Short Sleeve Sweater is precisely what I look for in a basic top. It looks nice and polished so that it can be worn by itself. However, since the top is a solid color with no noticeable details, it can also be worn as a layering top. The v-neckline is my favorite since it elongates your neck, helping you appear thinner. I’m wearing a medium which fits great. This sweater has 42 different color and neckline combinations, so you have many options.

The White Puff Short Sleeve Sweater is not so basic; it is a sweater that will get noticed. Being noticed isn’t a bad thing; it is actually pretty great. You’ll want a sweater like this one in addition to a basic one.

The crochet yoke is on trend for this year. All things crochet are trending, including shoes, handbags, etc.

Here is a better look at the yoke on this sweater tee. It is a pretty floral design and is perfect for summer. I’m wearing a medium which fits perfectly.

Lightweight Sweaters For Summer Featuring A Johnny Collar

I’ve always called this look a polo-style top, but I’ve discovered it is called a Johnny Collar. Maybe the difference is that a polo top usually has buttons, and this style is open.

This gorgeous Blue Johnny Collar Pullover also features a woven pointelle shell print, a beautiful, unique feature.

This is an open weave so you can see through it a bit. I’m wearing a nude bra, so this doesn’t bother me; however, for some, you might want to wear a cami. The sweater is also available in black, which would look gorgeous with my white jeans. I’m wearing a medium which is the perfect size for me.

Here is a lightweight sweater for summer that is in a beautiful neutral shade of tan. When worn with white, tan, or beige is one of my favorite color combinations.

This oversized sweater is thin and features a low v-neckline, so I added a white tee underneath.

I LOVE this oversized relaxed, and casual look! This is probably my favorite sweater, and I think I’ll also get it in the black version.

Cardigan Lightweight Sweaters For Summer

I love cardigan sweaters, and I wear them all year long. I’m cold-natured, so I always keep a neutral cardigan in my car for those “just in case” moments. Restaurants are notorious for being cold, so I rarely go to one without a lightweight cardigan or jacket.

I usually wouldn’t choose this rose color; instead, I would go with something more neutral. But this baby rose spoke to me, and I love the muted shade. This cardigan is exceptionally soft, and I love the material’s weave.

I tried to get a photo showing you how soft it is, but that turned out to be an impossible feat. This is one that you will have to take my word on. I’m wearing a medium, and it fits me perfectly.

If you think that I’m always saying that everything fits perfectly, these next three sweaters will change all that. I needed to size up in all of them, but I wanted to show you still how pretty they are. Sizing can be a challenge for all of us, but at least you get a heads up on the sizing when I guess, incorrectly.

This was the first time I’ve tried this brand, so I’m unsure if the brand runs small or if the items I picked ran small. I went with the recommended size, but I still think the sweater is too small.

I loved the scalloped detail at the neckline and placket. The loose weave is see-through, so I kept the white tee underneath. If I had worn a black tee, you wouldn’t have been able to see the pretty pointelle design. Here is how the sweater looks buttoned.

This beautiful soft pink cardigan is by the same brand as the black one above. You can see that the cardigan is too small; I don’t like for my lumps and bumps to be on display.

I wanted to wear this cardigan buttoned, and you can see how the sweater gaps open. Sizing up to a large would fix those issues, so if you are between sizes, remember to size up.

I love the color, quality, and design of the sweater. I’m placing an order with this brand for more items so I can get a handle on the sizing. This gorgeous sweater looks feminine and can be dressed up or worn casually.

I can’t blame the fit of this sweater on the brand. I’ve ordered from this brand before, but this sweater is too small. I didn’t even attempt to button it since it was so small.

The sweater is gorgeous, though, and I love the ruffled sleeves. I don’t think I’ve seen ruffled sleeves like this in a sweater material, but I might be mistaken. This sweater is the heaviest of the sweaters and is probably between medium and lightweight.

Here are the details if you’ve been wondering about my High Waist Straight Leg Jeans. These white jeans are from Talbots, and they fit like a dream. They aren’t tight, but they aren’t loose, either. I call clothing like this the “baby bear” since they are just right. (From the Goldilocks and the three bears story) I’m wearing my usual size 8, and they fit TTS.

I wore these Perfect Crops in a recent Talbots Try On Haul, except they were pink. The size 8s fit me great, and I love the slightly relaxed fit. I’ve heard a lot about Jack Rogers shoes, so I tried a couple of pairs. The Twisted rope crisscross design of these sandals has a casual look and is great for wearing with jeans, shorts, or dresses. The 1 1/4″ heel height is easy to walk in, and I thought these sandals were very comfortable. I’m wearing my usual size 9.

I hope you enjoyed this post on Lightweight Sweaters For Summer. Be sure to comment your favorite sweater and how you would choose to style it.

How do I get on your email list? I love your posts.

    1. Susan, I know it can be confusing. I added you to my email list, so you should get an email in the morning.

  2. Valerie D. says:

I bought 2 of the sweaters you showed here. Thank you so much in helping in my search for cute, lightweight sweaters! I will feel so much more comfortable this Spring season than ever before! I can never thank you enough! I love reading your daily posts – thank you for those too!

    1. I’m thrilled that I have helped you!!!

  3. I bought the black scallop cardigan, it is a great fit, a lightweight sweater, attractive on.
Thanks for all your hard work! Makes my fashion choices so much easier!

  4. Lynda Brown says:

I think blue is your color! We have the same skin tone and hair color. I’m going to get out of my beige and tan rut and go for something blue. My eyes are Brown, that’s why of been “afraid” of blue. 😃

  5. You look gorgeous in that blue Johnny collar.

  6. The rose colored cardigan is very pretty. Love the johnny collared sweater from Talbot’s. Birthday month is coming in May. Hopefully this top will still be available.

Tania, just wanted to share with you how grateful I am that I accidently located your site online. You are so inspirational and a beautiful woman inside and out. I especially enjoy reading your Devotions/Faith segments. Thank you for sharing your expertise and advice on clothing choices.

  8. Loved this post that features just tops! The crocheted ones are so pretty! Thanks for styling them for us.

  9. All nice choices, but I liked the 1st 2 out of the 3 that you said you ordered in too small a size. Like someone else mentioned, it is so helpful for you to let us know the size you are wearing. I wanted to let you know that I ordered the inexpensive sleeveless dress you showed a short time ago from Wal-Mart. I ordered it in black and navy. It is such a great dress for such a cheap cost and I liked all the different ways you modeled it. I already had one kimono that went perfect with them and I just purchased another also. Thanks for much for sharing less expensive ways of looking good! Also, sorry I missed you in Arizona. We were there for the entire month of March, mostly for spring training, but also just for “living.” I would have loved to meet you in person. We RV there, on the otherside of Phoenix from where you were at. We did go to Scottsdale, but unfortunately I didn’t see you anywhere.

    1. Janet, I’m glad to know you liked the tank dress; I thought it was a great buy. When we were in Scottsdale, my friend and I stayed at the resort the entire time except when we went into town shopping one day. It is a gorgeous area.

  10. Great sweaters….where are your bracelets from?

  11. LOVE this post!!!! That tan, oversized sweater is gorgeous! Ordering ASAP! Thx for this!❤️

  12. I really enjoy your blog. Your sense of style is spot on for me – classic, feminine, age-appropriate, and becoming of a lady! And I appreciate that you offer affordable options such as Wal-mart and Amazon shopping. Those Nordstrom items are wowza, but I don’t wish to spend a lot on my wardrobe since I’ve just retired. I do want to look cute and put-together, though. So, thank you for the ideas and ease of finding the items you select. Keep it up – you are a beauty, Tania!!

  13. Thanks! We had summer weather for three days and now it is 45 degrees!

  14. NATALIE K says:

Tania, Most of these tops were to tight on you!!! You need to go up a size!!!

    1. Natalie, did you not see that I mentioned the sizing issues in the blog post?

  15. Cute sweaters. I also have more tops than bottoms. I have a sweater similar to the first one. I’ve had it for years and still in good shape. This year I bought long sleeve cotton sweaters in spring colors for next winter. I did get to wear them once this spring.

  16. All sweaters were great but the one I like best, and will order, is the blue Johnny collar! That will be perfect with white jeans or capris all summer. Thanks for all your research!

  17. Glada St. Clair says:

It’s to sultry in the Memphis are for those but they’re pretty.

  18. Love the rose colored cardigan!! Can you tell me where you got the white v neck tee that you paired with it? I am on the hunt for basic short sleeved v necks without the puff sleeve…..thanks!

    1. Ellen, I linked to the tee in the post. Anything that is highlighted has a link. But here is the link for you: https://bit.ly/3ogU76m

  19. My favorite is the black scalloped cardigan. I’m going to check out the other colors of it. Here I need sweaters as well; yesterday it was 84 and I was in the pool up to my waist (weather wimp, yes) but right now it is 61. Tonight predicting 48. Crazy spring for us all!

  20. Hi Tania,
Thanks for sharing your sizes with us. It is so helpful when ordering. 🙂

  21. Tammy roark says:

Love the blue pullover on you!

  22. Sue McKamely says:

I love the black scalloped cardigan and the tan ruffled sleeve sweater. The design is unique and trendy. You look
gorgeous in all of the sweaters, but I think blue is your color! Thanks for all of your posts!

  23. Mary Kinard says:

I have struggled to find a cute summer sweater. I am going to try a couple of these!

  24. It gets chilly all year here in the midwest, so this post id appreciated! Let us know how you like your lights. After three seasons, ours pooped out and need replacing.

  25. Susan Brandenburg says:

Thank you! Just what I wanted.

  26. Getting a couple of these! You have the most amazing style and taste.

  27. Great choices! Where is the white tee from? I’m challenged to find a basic white tee that isn’t too short in the front.

      1. Tania,
Great choices….I liked them all and you paired and wore them nicely!
