2024 Summer Makeup Trends for Women
Colorful Eyeliner & Mascara
Word has it that colorful eyeliner and mascara are in for summer 2024, gurls! I was shocked by how many colors of mascara there are out there when I was writing this post. I settled on this purple one because I think it’s fun but doesn’t look too out there or like you have an eye infection or a case of pink eye, LOL.
I’ve seen several bloggers I follow try out burgundy mascara and it actually looks SO good! It’s softer than black but still adds plenty of definition. At under $10, it’s definitely worth a try!
This trend isn’t just about colorful mascara but colorful eyeliner, too! Like mascara, you can find eyeliner in every color of the rainbow. This one from Urban Decay comes in all kinds of fun shades, like turquoise and green. Plus, it’s waterproof, making it a great choice for summer since it won’t run down your face in the pool or at the lake! If you prefer black mascara instead, you can read about my favorites here.
Glowy Skin
I know it’s hard for some of us to embrace that dewy, glowy look after years of trying to hide any trace of oily skin with powders and oil-absorbing sheets. There’s no denying that glowy skin is in, and summer is the time to embrace a bronzy glow. This Halo Glow Filter from e.l.f. has rave reviews! It doesn’t hurt that it’s also SUPER affordable at only $14. This can be used in several different ways to give you that glowy look You can use it under your foundation as a base, you can use it as a foundation, or just to give a little highlight to spots like the top of your cheekbones.
This product is an oldie but a goodie! I’ve seen this Physicians Formula butter bronzer on the shelves for years, but it’s being discovered by younger generations that are getting into makeup which is making it popular all over again. It’s buildable and blendable, and a little bit of product goes a long way which means you’ll be able to use this compact for a long time before you need to repurchase!
I love products that can do more than one thing! This Glowscreen from Supergoop not only provides sun protection but also acts as a makeup primer and glowy base for your foundation without making you feel or look greasy or oily. I chat more about sunscreen in this post!
Sunset Colors
When I was researching for this post, I saw so many references to sunset! Sunset eyeshadow, sunset blush, sunset lip colors…. so we’re going to group them all together! We’re starting off with a sunset inspired blush color with a pretty coral shade. This one is a liquid, and you just dab one spot or two on the apple of your cheek and then use a makeup sponge to blend it in! If you prefer a powder blush, try this one!
I also saw a lot of sunset eyes when I was researching! As with all fads, you can decide how dramatic you want it to look. You could easily dip your toes into the trend by adding a subtle sunset color palette like this one.
I know some of you gurls have your die-hard lip colors that you have used for years, but trying out a new gloss or lipstick is an easy way to update your look and try out a trend. This one from Revlon is a drugstore one that you can pick up on your next grocery run, and it’s so inexpensive!
Doll Blush
You know how baby dolls have those rosy checks and minimal makeup everywhere else? That’s what this summer makeup trend is all about! It’s about going pretty light on your contour, bronzer, eyeshadow, etc. and letting your blush be the showstopper. This one by Milani has over 27,000 5-star ratings, so you know it’s good!
I thought this blush was neat because not only is it a cheek color, but it also contains Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and plump your skin! It has buildable coverage, comes in a bunch of shades, and can be blended with your fingers or a blush brush.
Glitter
I have been wearing this glittery plumping gloss by City Beauty called “Tinsel Town.” It’s a sheer, cool-toned pink with a little bit of silver glitter in it! I like that it adds a little extra color to my lips to match my casual look. You can see more lipglosses from City Beauty in this post.
I know there are women on both sides of the glitter camp when it comes to makeup! Some women over 50 say it’s time to stick to mattes, but I say a little glam (especially on a date night or for a special event) is a fun addition! This is a creme to powder eyeshadow stick to add a bit of shimmer to your eyes.
Another way you can add a little glitter is with your highlighter. I always add my highlighter in spots that catch light, like my upper cheekbones and the bridge of my nose. This one is currently under $5 and comes in several different shades!
I LOVE NYX Butter Gloss. It’s so affordable and doesn’t make my lips feel sticky at all. I saw that they make a version with glitter, and I need to give it a try. It comes in several different colors, so you can pick the one that works best for you!

Tania, great post! I’m a great fan of Laura Geller..Have you tried her baked balance and brighten foundation? It’s absolutely worth every penny. I’m looking into the blush you have on your post too. The Julep eyeshadow sticks are great too. I use them in shades from sheer to charcoal (Had them on Prime Day and yes, I indulged). They have great colors and a stick lasts forever. ( just got the black cherry matte … love it). I’m going to order one of your glitter glosses right now. Lighter colors make us GURLS look happy!
Have a sparkling day!
Yes, I’ve used several of her products. I have an eyeshadow palette that also includes a blush that I love.
Oh, my goodness! I looked at the price ($233.43!) on the Milani blush you’ve posted and thought I was looking at someone else’s blog because Tania would NEVER send us toward WAY overpriced cosmetics! I clicked on the link, just to make sure, and was relieved to see that $8.97 is the actual price. I remember wearing navy mascara back in the day. Hmmm…I may have to explore this one a bit!
Lol! You know I would never post about a blush that was that expensive unless I gave a more affordable option.
I love all the makeup products you are recommending and am I fact using and love the elf primer you recommended. I used to wear blue and purple mascara years ago and loved it. I might try it again. Thanks for sharing your fun makeup tries
I’ve had Peach Me, Revlon, and love it. Today I bought the deep burgundy mascara. it looks great!
Your picture is really pretty. your hair looks great!
Hi Tania,
I have practically abandoned naked for the because it’s so hot outside… 90 degree temps and humidity, but I do need some coverage. I thought about trying a moisturizing tint… any suggestions?
By the way I like the idea of a colorful mascara and that purple looks great!
Leslie, I did a post on tinted moisturizers, here it is: https://50isnotold.com/the-best-tinted-moisturizers-with-spf-to-buy-now/
I like the Supergoop products! Thanks.
Hope you had a great 4th of july
Love color mascara!
I’ve always enjoyed your makeup posts. Great choices. I also had the Charlie’s angel’s hairstyle. 😀
I have been on a E.L.F. kick and have been pleased with everything I have purchased and you can’t beat the price! The only color mascara , besides black and brown, that I have worn is navy.
Thank you for great makeup ideas!
I will have to try the Laura Geller blush
50+ now, I am ready for a change in makeup! (I didn’t used to wear any & now I must!) haha!
Thanks for the examples to try!
Both beautiful! So happy you are spending time with your family.
When I was younger I loved navy blue mascara. So fun to see the colors coming back. I’ve been wanting to try Laura Geller blush stick. It’s on my list.
I love the sunset colors and they look very good with my warm peach complexion. I am in the “yes” camp when it comes to glitter. It is fun to sparkle on a special night out, no matter what your age! I also have a couple fun eyeliner colors but when I wear them, I tone down the rest of my look so “clown” doesn’t come to anyone’s mind when they see me. 🙂 The dewy look works for me, I could never get my skin to look matte anyhow. LOL!
Good post! Great products.
Thank you for the latest makeup tips.
I have been using Julep eye shadow sticks for a couple of years now and love them. Can’t get into the glittery makeup but I am in my 70s…hopefully young for 70s. 😁. Love your posts and your and Joe’s relationship. You have a lovely family and aren’t we blessed to have a family with lots of love. Keep up the good work but don’t let work get in the way of life. God Bless You!
Tanya – Some lip colors turn a horrid purple on my lips. Is there some way to predict if they will? They look fine on my hand but get them on my lips and just no. Love your blog, especially the scriptures.
I’ve never had that happen, so I don’t know how to help. Maybe see if there is a sample you can try on your lips with a Q-Tip.
Thanks for updates on trending makeup and your continued efforts in keeping us current!
There are some fun trends to try for those that wear makeup. I’m wondering if the Milani you shared is really $233.43 or if that’s a typo.
Lol! It shows that it is under $10 on my end.
I’m liking the dewy look. I think it gives the mature woman a softer, younger look. Also remember, a little goes a long way.
I like the peachy lipstick. I am toning down my makeup as I get older especially when it comes to eye makeup. I think the glitter is okay for evening.
It sure I’m up for colorful eyeliner or mascara but want to try some of the other products!
Gotta try the mascara,,,
Hmm, reminds me of the green and blue eyeshadows in the 80’s, lol. I do like the sunset colors and the glittery highlights and lipgloss do sound fun.
Thank you for the update on what is trending in makeup !
ThSanks!!!
Who did which one?
Lol! My sister did the one about books.
Love Laura Geller’s serum blush tint. I have it in three colors. It’s easy to apply and stays on all day. I use several of her products. RMS Beauty is another favorite of mine. Recommend both lines.
I think your sister wrote the book post. Great details.
Have a blessed day.
I am going to try the burgundy mascara . Thank you
