YES, YOU CAN WEAR WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY
I get asked about wearing white after Labor Day a lot. There was a “rule” about NOT wearing white after Labor Day, and I know that many of you have heard this rule many times before. I was never sure WHY you couldn’t wear it; I just knew that I wasn’t supposed to. Ask any teenager, and they will tell you that rules are made to be broken, and in this case, I whole-heartedly agree!
The first time I wore white after Labor Day, I was scared to death that someone would point at me and tell me that I was doing something wrong. After I survived my first outing without anyone saying something to me, and the fashion police didn’t show up at my door, I got braver. Here is my very first White After Labor Day post back in 2015.
I realized that I liked white, and I didn’t want to stop wearing it because someone deemed that I should stop wearing it when a certain day rolled around. Back in the days when people didn’t own a lot of clothing and didn’t have access to an electric washer and dryer, it might have made sense not to wear white, which would get dirty.
Things are different now, and you’ve come a long way, baby! So, quit listening to the voice in your head that tells you that you are breaking the rules. Be a rebel, feel like you are walking on the wild side, and strut your stuff in something white today. Take the #TaniaChallenge and post it on Instagram or Facebook. I double-dog dare you!!! Lol!
This Drape Collar Blazer by Calson in the color Burgundy Beet is gorgeous! I love how the blazer is a casual soft knit material, but it still elevates the look of a t-shirt and jeans up several levels. This is such a flattering style, and it helps to create an illusion of a smaller waist. Heck, YES, this is my kind of blazer. I ordered the medium, and it fits perfectly. I wanted the navy color also, but they were already sold out of my size. Here is the link for the Plus size version.
The Madewell Whisper V-Neck Pocket Tee is ah-mazing! I was skeptical when I ordered it because I had read the reviews about it being so thin. It is thin, but not paper-thin. I only ordered this color to begin with, but I went in and ordered a black and a white one also. I would have ordered the other colors, but they were not available in my size, which was a medium. This tee hasn’t been washed yet, so I can’t speak to people saying that it got holes in it after they washed it. But, tons of reviews say that the tee is great. So far, I am on team “great” about the tee.
I have several white ankle pants, so the last thing that I needed was another pair. But, these white jeans by Vince Camuto somehow convinced me that they NEEDED to stay in my closet. They fit so well, and I loved how they looked and felt, so they stayed. I justified my purchase by saying that white gets dirty easily, and I needed a back-up pair just in case. Lo! The jeans are my usual size 30, and I couldn’t be happier with them.
You’ve seen me wear a faux-leather moto jacket before, but this is a little different. This is a dressier option to the moto jacket since I know that everyone might not be a fan. I ordered this black faux-leather blazer last week, and I am impressed with how realistic it looks. The main difference between this blazer and a leather blazer is the weight and softness. This blazer is much softer, more pliable, and lighter. I ordered a size 1 (8-10 in other brands), and it fits me great.
Look how flowy this black and white georgette pleated tank is! I like the black and white tiger stripe and the movement of the georgette material. The top is lined, so you don’t have to worry about it being so thin that you can see through it. However, I ordered a medium, a while it is plenty roomy through the body; it feels too tight for me though the chest. So this had to be returned.
I love a pair of classic black pumps! I can wear them with jeans or with the dressiest of dresses. Some people consider them “old fashioned,” but I consider them a timeless classic. I’ve had this pair by Coach for three or four years, and I plan on keeping them for many more years to come. Here are some similar ones for you to look at.
Who likes cashmere? Who likes paying an arm and a leg for cashmere? If you hand went up for the first question, but not for the last one, then keep reading because I’ve got a deal for you! This gorgeous blue cable-knit sweater is such a pretty color. I want to warn you that the sweater is oversized, but it is supposed to be this huge, casual, relaxed style.
The younger generation would probably wear this as a sweater dress, but I wouldn’t dare. I wanted to show you the length because I will be wearing this with leggings this winter. How cute and cozy would that be??? I am wearing a size medium, and you can see how roomy the sweater is on me. BTW, did I mention that this 2-ply cashmere sweater is under $40? I thought that might get your attention. Lol!
This black, white, and gray plaid sweater has to be one of the softest sweaters I’ve tried on in a while. The outside is softer than the inside, but it is still very soft. I like the bold plaid pattern, and I think that it looks great with white jeans. But, I think this sweater would look amazing with black pants since the large black band wouldn’t be as noticeable. This sweater also comes in a brown and black tiger stripe, and that is a gorgeous statement piece. The website said that you could size down if between sizes, but I ordered a medium, and I think that was the correct size for me.
I probably wouldn’t have worn these boots with this outfit, but I wanted to let you take a peek at them. These black ankle boots by Vince Camuto feature a chunky heel and a pointy toe. I love that they have the brown sole and heel; I think that helps them go with brown clothing much easier. These boots zip up the back, so it is super easy to put them on and take them off. These run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.
The jewelry that I am wearing in this look is the Ryder Multi-chain necklace in mixed metals, the Fallyn Hoop Earrings, the Fallyn cuff bracelet, and the Maggie Filigree Bangle Bracelet.
Before you purchase anything from Kendra Scott, you need to check out their Amazon Sale page first. I know that they are participating in the Amazon Prime Day sales, and some of their items will be 20% off. I am not sure which items, but here is the Amazon Kendra Scott site so that you can check it out.
Also, I’ve been using Collagen For Her, a peptide powder (you’ll hear more about this later) and it is also available on Amazon Prime for 20% off.
My jewelry in this photo is the Regina Pearl Hoop earrings, the Ryder mixed metals magnetic bracelet, and the Amiya Cuff Pearl Bracelet.
The jewelry in this photo is the Fallyn hoop earrings in silver, the Ryder multi-chain necklace in mixed metals worn short, and the Maggie Bangle bracelet and the Ryder magnetic bracelet.
The AVI large statement hoop earrings in silver are the only jewelry piece that I haven’t already linked to earlier. I think that these earrings were my first purchase with Kendra Scott, and they started my obsession with this jewelry line.
It is time! The waiting is over!!! AMAZON PRIME DAYS (today and tomorrow) is finally here, and I am getting ready to save some money. The deals start at midnight, and they will be fast and furious. You can set notifications on the Amazon app to alert you when a deal is available so that you don’t miss out by getting busy and forgetting. I told both of my DIL’s that I have them on speed dial to see if the kids want something for their Christmas gift. I would love to get my Christmas shopping done early this year.
Also, I told you that I expected Target and Walmart to join in on the fun, and they are having their own huge sales. Woohoo! That is music to my ears!

Love these looks but old habits die hard. You aren’t going to get me to wear white pants.
I’m going for it. Cream sweater. White denim pants, light brown cotton jacket with my brown boots and beige and brown pottery necklace, I think I can see that. I wear black all summer for goodness sake. What’s the difference?
You were the first one in your school to tie red jingle bells on your sneakers weren’t you?
Hi Tania! I love all these looks, especially the black blazer from Chico’s! I completely agree with you about not following the “No White After Labor Day” rule. Especially considering that this “rule” (among many others) was invented by snobby women with old money back in the late 1800’s in order to separate themselves from the women with new money. Seems a little outdated doesn’t it? Lol! Check out the article on the subject at http://www.mentalfloss.com
I’m 58 years old so you know that the rule was drilled in my head, but I’m with you and I have gone out on that limb and worn white after ld. My favorite outfit of yours it the coral colored blazer with the tan colored top and I love the shoes as well.
I have never been a follower of “no white after labor day,” but your styles are especially helpful for me to transition the look into fall! Thank you for these fun and put-together looks!
I read that back in the day they made this rule to determine who came from old family money. If you wore white after Labor Day that’s how they knew you were not from old family money and they could gossip about you?
I have no problem with anyone wearing white after Labor Day. I choose not to simply because I want my white jeans to be something special. When I pull them out of my closet in May (after their winter hybernation) it’s like having new clothes to wear without spending a dime. It may seem silly, but that is how I roll. I don’t have Amazon Prime so I don’t have to worry about the craziness. But if other stores do sales in order to compete, I am all on board for that.
Love all these looks and it’s great to see someone the same size that I am style. I, too, am glad the fashion police aren’t going to take me in for wearing white after Labor Day, especially living at the beach! Have a fabulous day!!
Hi Tania, I love all these looks. The cashmere sweater says it is one size but you said you had a medium. Just making sure it is the same sweater. Have a great day!
