What Are The Best Pairs of Women’s Jeans Under $50

I recently did a blog post on What Are The Best Jeans for Women Over 50, and it has quickly become a reader favorite. However, many of the jeans in that post were expensive, and I got several requests to show more budget-friendly alternatives. Today I’m showing you some of the jeans in my closet, plus I’ll also share several retailers that you can check out that carry women’s jeans under $50.

What To Look For When Trying On Jeans

When it comes to finding the perfect pair of women’s jeans under $50, I always recommend trying on multiple sizes and styles to find the best fit. Almost every brand and style fits differently, so don’t get discouraged if you have to try on several pairs before finding the perfect one.

I also suggest paying attention to the rise of the jeans. Low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise options are available, and it’s important to find the most comfortable rise that flatters your body shape. Some people love high-rise jeans to try and hide a muffin top, but others love a med to low-rise jeans because they don’t like the look or feel of jeans over their belly button. Just a heads up…low rises are coming back in style.

Another important factor to consider is stretch. Some jeans have a small amount of stretch, making them more comfortable to wear. If you’re looking for a more comfortable option, I recommend trying on a pair with a bit of stretch.

Regarding leg shape, there are various styles available such as straight leg, skinny, boot cut, and more. I always recommend trying on different leg shapes to see which is most flattering and comfortable for you.

Lastly, don’t forget to pay attention to the jeans’ color, quality, and durability. It’s worth noting that not all expensive jeans are of good quality and not all jeans under $50 are of poor quality. It is always best to read reviews, check the fabric and construction, and try different styles before purchasing.

Retailers That Carry Women’s Jeans Under $50

Banana Republic Factory

I’m styling all these jeans with the same blue cashmere tee I bought last year. It has sold out, but I linked to this one, which is almost identical but in a slightly darker shade of blue. I bought it in black, ivory, and dark gray, and I recommend sizing it up. I ordered a medium, but I just returned them for larges instead. By the way, it is on sale for $44.90, so you can’t go wrong.

Even though these jeans say low-rise, they aren’t the butt crack showing kind. This is one of my favorite pairs of jeans, and they remind me a lot of the Spanx Flare Jeans and the Joe’s Jeans Bootcut Jeans, but at a much lower price. These are 50% off, so they are at a great price.

Everyone wants to see what jeans look like from the back, so I tried to grab a rear photo with all the jeans.

And a side photo also. I’m wearing a size 28 in the jeans since these are the curvy style. If they were the regular cut, I might need to size up to a 29.

I did a large cuff on these jeans, but you can do a smaller cuff or no cuff at all. I love the relaxed fit of these jeans, and think they look great with heels or sneakers. I’m wearing a size 29, and it fits perfectly.

Banana Republic Factory has a wide variety of women’s jeans under $50, and I love the quality.

Nordstrom Carries Women’s Jeans Under $50

Some might be surprised to learn that Nordstrom carries women’s jeans under $50. Here is how you find them without wasting hours looking at jeans. Go to Nordstrom, click on Women, scroll down to jeans and denim, then filter by price. I selected $0-$50, and 488 selections came up. Some of them might not have your size, but there are plenty to choose from.

These wide-leg jeans aren’t under $50; they are $59. I found this brand in the summer, and they seem like great quality, and the prices are affordable. Most of their jeans are under $50 without being on sale; you can check out their styles here.

Wide-legged pants conceal the shape of your legs, so they’re great for camouflaging heavy thighs. They won’t make you look heavier than you are if you get the proportions right. I love wide-leg pants because they add balance to my broad shoulders. They are also great at adding an element of drama to my outfits.

Marilyn Straight Leg Jeans ( Size 8) || Blue Cashmere Tee (Old) – Almost Identical One Under $50 (Large) – Neutral Wedge Heels (TTS)

I love these NYDJ jeans! I have them in this light wash, which is on sale for under $50, and also a medium wash pair. NYDJ jeans are created with a mature woman in mind, so they seem to fit better than most jeans. These fit great, have enough stretch but don’t bag, and look amazing on. Grab a pair while you can get them at such a great price.

Don’t Forget Dillards For Women’s Jeans Under $50

I sometimes forget about shopping at Dillard’s. They have a great selection, and I’ve bought a lot of clothing, shoes, and bags from them over the years. So, I’m not sure why I forget to check them out when shopping.

These jeans are on sale for $56.40, lightly over the $50 mark. But I wanted to include them because I love the Kut From The Kloth brand. This brand’s jeans typically sell for around 90-100 dollars, so finding them on sale is a big deal. They show these jeans online with the hem cuffed, but I like them also uncuffed.

Walmart

I’ve bought a lot of jeans from Walmart, and they have all held up well through multiple washings. The brands I purchase the most because of the quality are Time and Tru, Free Assembly, Scoop, and Sofia Vergara.

I’ve had these jeans for a long time, and they still look and fit fabulous. The Free Assembly line is a great quality line; some of their shirts and sweaters are too thick for me. I love the dark wash of these jeans, and you can see that they haven’t faded.

These wide-leg crop utility jeans in dark gray are so soft. They have quite a bit of stretch, and they almost flow when you walk. I’ve had a lot of compliments when wearing these jeans, and no one can believe they came from Walmart. They also come in a medium wash, which would look cute this summer with sneakers.

Old Navy

Did you see my last What To Wear From Old Navy When You’re Over 50 post? It had a lot of jeans in it, as well as a few shirts and tees. Old Navy has always been a go-to store for jeans. They have jeans that are trendy at an affordable price, so I can try the latest styles without spending a fortune on them.

Slouchy Boot-Cut Black Non-Stretch Cut-Off Jeans for Women (Size 6) || Blue Cashmere Tee (Old) – Almost Identical One Under $50 (Large) – Neutral Wedge Heels (TTS)

I originally bought these vintage black wash jeans in a size 8, but they were too big on me. I returned them for a size 6 thinking they would fit. I didn’t bother to try them on when they arrived; I just hung them in my closet. I’ve gained a few pounds since then, they were tight around the waist, but I managed to get them buttoned. I love these jeans’ color, so I hope to get back into them in a few weeks more comfortably.

Kohl’s

Kohl’s is known for offering competitive prices on its products, an appealing option for those looking to save money. Like Walmart, there are certain brands that I shop for from Kohl’s because I can rely on the quality. I shop at Nine West, LC Lauren Conrad, Croft & Barrow, and Draper James RSVP most of the time.

We all need a pair of black jeans in our closet. I LOVE wearing black jeans with a simple white t-shirt in the summer. It looks casual and chic at the same time. This pair fits nicely, has plenty of stretch, and has slits at the hem for boots.

  1. I have a dilemma. The jeans I buy seem to fit well, but the zipper shows. If I go up a size I think they’ll be too big. I just tried curvy and they fit well but the top of the zipper shows.
    Help!

    1. Pam, I’ve had that issue with a few of my jeans too. I’ve tried pressing the flap to keep it closed, and sometimes that helps. If it still shows, I’ll wear a longer top so you can’t see it.

  2. as of today the Marilyn Jeans from Nordstrom are $119. Not sure when you bought yours but definitely not under 50 now.

    1. Pam, there are a couple of different colors, and not all colors are on sale. The one on sale was a light wash. It might have sold out already though since it has been a while since I made this post.

  3. I love all of these and am wondering what you do with all of your clothes when you tire of them. Love reading your blog!!!

  4. Very helpful article. I also like the brand Democracy in jeans. Thanks for your useful tips, I enjoy reading your emails, they’re tremendous!

  5. Awesome post! But could you share a pair of wide legs that look good on someone 5’2” I love the look so much but can never find a pair that are not way too long.

I don’t wear petites either just not a good fit.

    Thanks!

  6. Hi Tania,
I love your Joe stories. The one about the vehicle about to die but still uses it really hit home. I have one of them too. He new truck sits covered up in the garage while he still uses the old 2005 that is on its last leg.
I am ordering the Marilyn Straight Leg. I don’t have any NYDJ jeans so this looks like a good time to give them a try.
Thanks for doing all the research for us!

  7. Great jeans ideas and some from stores I had not thought about. I just bought black velvet higher high waist jeans from Old Navy and they are so comfy and a perfect fit!

  8. thanks for y great variety. I will check out some of them in hopes that some are in the petite sizing.
    the best always

  9. Thank you Tanya, what a fantastic presentation!! I was overwhelmed by the $200+ pricing for jeans and you made buying jeans more affordable. So excited!

  10. I have been buying JCPenney’s St. John’s Bay Secret Slimming jeans for years. I still have several pair that are at least 12 yrs old! They do not wear out or fade, only go out of style! I recently bought a few bootcut, just because they’re back in style. These jeans fit consistently true to size, and have several color options and styles.
They are frequently on sale for less than $30.

  11. I love jean from Wal-Mart! I have several pairs and for the price the quality can’t be beat. Wal-Mart is my go to for jeans. Especially trendy styles. At their price point you are not stuck with an expensive pair of jeans that are no longer in style.

  12. I have two pairs of the Franco Sarto wedges, comfortable and flattering pointed toe! In general not a fan of Kohl’s due their awful credit card they make you use to get their best deals – that said like the petite options in the Nine West line good balance of price and quality. And my teenagers like their athletic clothes. You do have to be careful at Kohl’s lots of their clothing is practically disposable and does not hold up after washing.

  13. Tania – I like the Sonoma brand jeans from Kohls. They must be under $50 because I wouldn’t buy them if they were over that price. I also like Levi’s Signature jeans. Again, wouldn’t buy them if they were over $50. God bless you and yours.

  14. Great post!
Ever notice the rank odor sometimes seen in black jeans? Any ideas for getting rid of the scent??

    1. Susan, that made me laugh. I’ve not noticed it before but probably has something to do with the dye. I would suggest washing them in cold water and air drying them before wearing them. If they still have an odor, then throw them in the dryer with a dryer sheet to see if that helps.

  15. I love Time and Tru jeans from Walmart! They are cute, well-made and so comfortable. And you can’t beat the price!

  16. Thank you for sharing these great jean options. I really like the sofia vergera jeans from Walmart. Have a great Saturday!

  17. Love these cost affective choices! However, we short girls would love to see some more petite options please. 😊

  18. Love the jeans you picked. I am going to try some of your suggestions because nothing beats a great pair of jeans!

  19. I have to say the cheaper jeans are most flattering on you. I’m going to check out Walmart jeans today! Thanks for all the trying on for us!

  20. I enjoy your posts and this was a good one! I recently ordered and received the Dolce Vida western style pointy toes booties you featured in a couple previous posts. I like them, but wanted to know if they mold to your foot once you wear them a bit. Also, the heel is cute but might take a bit getting used to. Can you link the post where you style these boots?
    Thanks!

    1. Carrie, I’m not sure which post you’re referring to. I don’t have a pair of Dolce Vida western boots, mine are by Sam Edelman.

  21. Thanks for showing us so many choices! I have never tried jeans from Walmart but I just ordered the gray wide-leg utility jeans. I can’t wait to try them!

  22. Another great Joe story. Thanks for sharing more budget friendly options with us! I would like for you to update your post on being over 50 and wearing wide leg jeans, especially since it seems that wide legged pants will be on trend this spring. Since low rise jeans are not comfortable for me, I need to learn how to skirt around them being back in style, so that I look current.

  23. I was amazed at the selection of jeans you linked at Nordstroms. Hint of Blue is a brand I’m going to try— so many styles and colors!

  24. Wow, what a great selection you gave us today! Thanks so much! I have black jeans from Talbots, dark wash jeans from Kohls, Sonoma, and med wash jeans from Walmart, Scoop. Need to check out some of the others listed in this post. Some seem limited but I’m guessing stores will soon be getting shipments for Spring.

  25. I just ordered those cute gray wide-leg cropped utility jeans, and I can’t wait to try them with sneakers. I’m only 5’2″, so I hope I can balance the look with a cute top like yours, Tania! JJill also has great jeans that often are on sale for less than $100, even less when additional discounts are taken.

Blessings to you and your family! Thanks for all you do to make fashionable shopping easier for us!

  26. I love Old Navy because they offer a straight fit with a long length (not tall, because it’s too long) inseam. Thanks for sharing these brands that aren’t always in the stores but sold online.

    1. Thanks for that tip. I also need a little bit longer inseam, but not tall. I’m going to try cutting off one pair of shorter ones at ankle and leaving raw hem. That seems to be a style now.

  27. Thanks for all the great info. I usually stick to one or two styles. But I like the different looks you showed us. Plus todays bible verse is perfect ❤️

  28. I’m trying to wear jeans more now that it’s cold outside instead of my usual leggings. I’ve been surprised by how much I like jeans from WalMart too! Old Navy is pretty reliable as well.

  29. Hello Tania,
This was an amazing post! I find shopping for denim so challenging, but now there is hope! Thank you for providing all of this wonderful information!

  30. Hey Tania – Great selections, as always! You got me hooked on Kut From the Kloth and Wit and Wisdom. They are two of my favorite brands now! I went into my local Belk store recently and fell in love with a pair of Crown and Ivy boot cut jeans. The regular price is $64.50, but they were having a huge sale an I got them for 50% off. They are super comfy with just the right amount of stretch. Have a great weekend!

  31. Hi, Tania,
    Blessings to you.🙏
I am 74 years old & will I look too young wearing flared jeans with fraying? I don’t need to look like I am a teenager, but do want to look stylish not frumpy in clothes.
Thank you Tania so much for all that you do in your daily posts.
    Blessings,
    Sue

    1. Sue, there are bell bottoms that are extremely flared, regular flares that have a small flare, and boot cut which will give you a similar look.

  32. You are a brave lady!!! I am not sure I would have the courage to take a photo from all angles. You looked great in all the jeans but not all pockets are created equal! I found this segment to be very informative, I need to go through the same exercise and clean out my collection of jeans which do not flatter me from my backside. I liked the Walmart jeans best on you.

  33. Great post…loved the first pair on you the best ! I’ve occasionally bought lesser priced jeans but don’t tend to reach for them as much…I don’t mind investing in a good pair of jeans as I think they keep their shape best. I have found expensive jeans for less at TJ Maxx but it’s definitely a hit or miss so I totally understand why bloggers don’t show items from there.

  34. My current favorite jeans are the Old Navy kicker boot cut. They fit gray and my husband says my butt looks good in them 😉

  35. I prefer a high rise. It keeps everything nice and tight. But I like a stretchy jean. The non-stretch is too uncomfortable for me.
