What’s Happening Saturdays
Welcome to What’s Happening Saturdays. I have found that I have a lot to say and share, so on Saturdays, I’ll write a blog post that can include more of everything.
Life Update
Remember all those clothes my sister and I picked out from my closet purge to give to Mom? And remember what she said when she started going through the bags?
“Who thought I would wear THAT? There’s no way Tania wore this.” 😂
Well, when I got to Mom and Dad’s, she couldn’t wait to show me all the clothes she was NOT going to like. Mind you, she hadn’t actually tried any of them on yet. Lol!
She put on the first piece, walked into the room, and started strutting around to show us how good she looked. Then she disappeared to try on another one.
I think you can probably guess where this is going. 😂
One after another, she came out wearing something else she supposedly wasn’t going to like…and she liked every single thing! Other than a couple of pieces that didn’t fit, almost everything was a keeper.
When the fashion show was finally over, Mom walked back into the living room and said: “I might have been wrong about the clothes.”
MIGHT HAVE BEEN?!?
Don’t worry, Mom. I won’t tell anybody. 😂
This Week’s Sales Roundup
I pulled a sweater out of the closet this week for the first time since spring. That’s my signal that the season has actually turned, no matter what the thermometer says. So this week’s picks lean hard into sweaters, soft pants, and the kind of things you can pull on without a second thought.
Talbots is running BOGO 50% off everything at regular price through September 13. The discount shows up in your bag, no code to remember. The nice part about a BOGO on full-price styles is that you’re shopping the new fall arrivals. I just got this Corduroy Single Button Blazer in Caramel, which will go with everything this fall.
Every fall I tell myself I don’t need another dress, and every fall Chico’s proves me wrong. They have 30% off the new collection with the price already marked down, so what you see on the screen is what you pay. I have a few pieces on order; I’ll include them below.
Macy’s One Day Sale runs through Sunday, with 40 to 60% off, so it’s live all weekend rather than gone by the time you read this. I found some really great pieces for fall, including this soft faux fur throw.
Lands’ End has become my answer for the basics I wear until they wear out. Their code SWEATERWEATHER takes up to 40% off full-price styles; each item shows the discounted price right on the tag, so you’re not guessing.
A reader asked me about Johnny Was, and she was right; I’d been overlooking it. Their sale is up to 30% off, marked right on the price. I love their colorful boho styles.
J.Crew Factory is having 50% off all stores & sitewide* and online only; get an extra 10% off your order when you buy a pair of jeans* with code SAVE. I love shopping J. Crew Factory for affordable and modern styles.
Nordstrom: Up to 50% off New Markdowns, but there are some genuinely good fall pieces in there that haven’t been picked over yet.
Fashion Week: 50% off your entire purchase, and the discount is already baked into the price you see. I bought the Low Maintenance tee because I used to tell Joe that all the time. This Black Cat Sweater adds a little bit of whimsy and would be adorable for Halloween.

30% off your purchase, price as marked, plus EXTRA 15% Off Your $200+ Purchase. This classic black V-neck sweater, a new arrival with 3/4 sleeves, will be one you reach for all fall and winter. My Argyle cardigan came in today, and I can’t wait to wear it. Plus, this Shirred Blouse arrived, and it will go great with a pair of brown pants.
What’s New This Week
Not every brand runs a sale, and a few of my favorites are just quietly putting out their fall collections right now. Here’s what caught my eye at full price.
Tommy Bahama has dropped a Western Collection. I’m not a huge Western fan, but I love this leopard belt and straight-leg jeans.
Evereve is dropping new arrivals daily with free shipping over $50. I really like this plaid 3/4 sleeve top, and this gray poncho is the kind of thing I’d wear every Saturday.
Madewell has a whole wall of new sweaters. I love the style of a polo sweater, and I think this Fern Green one would brighten up a dreary day.
Frank & Eileen released their fall collection this week. The Eileen sweatshirt in British Royal Navy triple terry just arrived. I already have this in white, and I couldn’t resist getting it in navy. It is thick, warm, and very cozy! I ordered a medium.
Coldwater Creek: Call me crazy, but I love this Moose Sweater, and it would look so good with these Straight Leg Corduroys pants.
J.McLaughlin’s new fall arrivals are gorgeous, but expensive. The Cashmere Turtleneck and Velveteen Jeans would look amazing together.

Helix Sleep
You ask me, your resident mattress girl, about Helix mattresses. Helix has extended their up to 30% off sitewide Sale, mattresses included, until Sunday night. I keep saying I’ll stop talking about their mattresses, and then someone asks me about them again. Lol! But if a new mattress is on your list, I’d buy one while the sale is still going on, rather than pay full price later.
Ruggable
My Harvest Pumpkin Doormat has arrived, but it hasn’t made it to the front porch yet. I have a heavy plant that needs to be moved to make room for my doormat and stackable pumpkins.
That’s this week’s roundup! As always, prices and stock can shift fast on sale items, so if something catches your eye, I would not wait too long to grab it.
That’s everything for this week. Happy shopping, and I hope you find something you love!

Good ole moms!!! Right out of the gate I think this is me, the Talbot’s Scoop Neck Tee is something I would wear on repeat. I also like the Tape-yarn crewneck sweater at J Crew and the Brown Sweater at Nordstrom’s.
She is always a great source of amusement. 😂
I maybe adding this to the wrong post but I saw the picture of your Mom with the red print top & blue pants. Other than needing her pants shortened she looks like a million bucks. It may be a bigger change than she is ready for but this is a change than could really perk up her life. Maybe she needs a” painter” to say she looks “60”!
Lol! That is so funny.
Hey Tania, I get those types of migraines too. It never comes with pain but suddenly my vision is affected. Scary when you are driving. My headache comes about 30 minutes later after my vision is almost normal again. Hopefully, you won’t get many of these; mine only occur about 3 times a year.
Sorry you had the eye scare. Have had similar what my doctor called ocular migraines. No headache unless I have them frequently. Kind of like looking into bright light then wavy vision. Better since retiring lol
I think the difference is that an ocular migraine is in one eye, and the Aura is in both eyes.
The Talbots jeans on sale for $176 AFTER the discount sure caught my eye. LOL…. I Think you probably meant $76
Lol! Yes, I meant $76.
My husband experiences migraines and gets the aura too. He also feels nauseous and often gets the chills and a fever. Once he gets one, he is out of commission for at least a couple days. I’m definitely eating by myself the first day and sometimes have to drive home from the cottage (2.5 hours) if it happens there. He now has prescribed medication from his doctor to take when it starts. He hasn’t had a migraine yet to use it but I am hoping it works for him.
I’m sorry that he is experiencing those. Thankfully, mine was quick and easy, just a little scary.
I’m so glad that your eye issue cleared up on its own and that it wasn’t anything requiring an appointment. There are so many end of summer sales going on. A few weeks ago I started having a pop up box by Cloud Fare asking me to verify that I am human. I don’t mind doing it, but just found it odd.
It is a security measure. Cloudflare is a security company that I use to keep away spammers and bots.
I’ve had those “migraine” auras for about 40 years. Sometimes I go years without having one. Last week I had 3 – I know it’s when I am stressed. I make the room dark and sit quietly for about 20 minutes. If I have a mild headache with it, I take Tylenol. And then it just stops. I describe it as if someone took my picture up close with a flash and it makes me a little blind. It happens 90% of the time on my left side. I used to get “regular” migraines for many years, terrible ones, and this is much less upsetting. I used to panic, but it hasn’t killed me yet, LOL. Only one time I was in the car and had to pull in to a parking lot. I’ve also gotten them if something bright reflects into my eyes. My brother and father have them too. At least you just had your eyes examined and you knew things were OK in your eyes!
