Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a rainbow striped pullover sweater and white ankle jeans with navy loafers

This past week, we’ve talked about How to look your best on a budget, what retailers are the most affordable, some upcoming fashion trends, and some color combinations that will be trending for this year. Today, we will continue along these lines by discussing the trending colors of the year. Yesterday, I wore bubblegum pink, and that is one of the trending colors, but there are a lot more than bubblegum pink, illuminating (bright yellow), and ultimate gray.

Colors play a huge part in the way we feel and act. I love bright colors, and they improve my mood in the same way that a sunny day makes me feel great, and a rainy overcast day can have me feeling blah.

The sun has finally decided to show its pretty face, and the temperatures are enjoyable. I sure have gotten spoiled over the past two days. Here in Virginia, we experience all four seasons, and they can all happen in one day. Lol! The rain is supposed to set in tomorrow and stick around for over a week, so I took advantage of the weather to grab as many photos as possible.

You gurls know how much I loved yesterday’s bubblegum pink button sweatshirt. Well, today, I love this rainbow striped pullover sweater just as much! The sweater’s gray color is such a beautiful shade of gray, and it is the perfect neutral color. The vivid colors of the rainbow stripe pop off the gray background and give the sweater a beautiful, unique detail.

The quarter-zip is not too low, but you can add a t-shirt under the sweater if you wish. The cotton knit is nice and heavy, and this will be great for the spring mornings when the temps haven’t warmed up. I am wearing a large so that it would have an oversized look, but a medium would have fit me as well. The large is a little bit big under the arms, but I am fine with that.

Here is a better look at the sweater up-close, and you can see how vivid and bright the colors are. I don’t have on a ton of jewelry today, just my AVI large hoop earrings in silver, my horizontal crystal cross, and the Shine necklace that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

If you’ve been eyeing something from Kendra Scott and was waiting until there was a big sale…then I am about to make you very happy. From TODAY through SUNDAY, take 20% off all fashion jewelry!!! (Some exclusions apply) Here are a couple of things that I am thinking about purchasing. Chains are huge this year, so you can’t go wrong with those.

I love wearing white all year long, but I know some of you still can’t make yourself wear white until after Easter. You still have another month to go, but white jeans look amazing with this sweater for the rest of us. White is crisp, clean, chic, and classy. If you don’t own a pair of white jeans, grab a pair today. It will take you a couple of times of wearing them before you feel comfortable in them, but you will love them after that.

These are skinny jeans, and I am not giving them up just yet. Even with the relaxed fit and straight-leg jeans trending, the skinny jeans are not OUT. So, if you have them – wear them. I am wearing a size 30 in these, which is my normal size. There is a straight-leg option in these jeans, so you can grab them if you are ready to go with that trend.

The navy suede loafers that I am wearing are by Born and they are very comfortable. I am trying to wear more flats, but I still feel “off” when I wear them. These loafers run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.

Now, let’s talk about colors. More specifically, let’s talk about the colors that Pantone has said will be trending this year. There is a wide variety of colors with different hues and shades of that color. So, if illuminating is not the right shade of yellow for you to wear, you might want to try some of the colors below.

You had mentioned that flowered print fabrics were also going to be trending, could you show some tops or other pieces with flowers? Big flowers? Small flowers? Pants? Purses?
    Thanks, Kim

Tania, I always find value in your posts. You are very consistent with quality content, and I always look forward to seeing what you’ve got for us each day. One of the things I most enjoy about you is that you have an absolutely uncanny gift for color. I don’t know who put these Pantone people in charge of what we are supposed to like as I almost always dislike their choices (and, honestly, I grate against some entity trying to dictate what I’m supposed to like each year). You innately know how to select colors and tones to look great, express yourself, and capture joy. I think you, a living example of someone with a gift for color, are the far better expert, and I really appreciate your sharing your gift with the rest of us.

I love how the white pops off of the gray. Of course, the rainbow stripe adds a lot to the outfit.

I love the sweater with the white jeans. The bright colors are really giving me spring fever! The shoes really pull out the blue in the sweater and it looks so good on you. I think the color chart is helpful too. Thanks!

Another great post! I like the sweater a lot and don’t have a problem wearing white pants whenever I feel like it. I wear flats mostly due to the fact that I am tall and they are really comfortable. Good news that so many great colors are trending. Have a great weekend!!

Even though I am 5’6″ tall, I still prefer heels over flats. Heels make my legs look longer and my calves not as thick looking.

Love the colors for this year. I have taken to wearing bright colors on days I feel blah. I have learned what colors work best with my red hair and pale skintone. Sometimes I throw caution to rhe wind and wear one that usually I wouldnt. Fashion is daring and fun!
