Boring is NOT a word that I ever want used to describe my style. Vibrant, colorful, modern trendy, or classic are descriptions that I would prefer. But, I also love wearing a solid color palette, and if you are not careful, that can go toward the boring side. Today on the blog, I’ll show you how I keep navy and white, a classic color combination, from looking boring.
I know a lot of women love a capsule wardrobe. The Basics of a Capsule Wardrobe is something that I get asked about a lot, and that is why I wrote that post. When starting a capsule wardrobe, I suggest that you pick a few base colors and then build on those. Most people’s base colors will be either black, navy, gray, or brown, and then you pick coordinating colors that match those. Since those are all neutrals, everything matches them. Lol! So, you need to pick colors that speak to you, such as pink, lilac, red, green, yellow, or any other color that you love.
But, wearing all solid colors can quickly going BORING if you are not careful. So, here are a few suggestions for you on how to liven up your look.
How To Liven Up Your Look
- A Pop of Color is always a fun and modern way to liven up a neutral or solid color palette. Most of the time, I choose colors like bright red, hot pink, or bright yellow when I want to add a POP. Sometimes I choose cobalt blue, but either choice will work.
- Today, I used Prints to liven up my look. Today’s print is Gingham, but Florals, Stripes, and Animal Prints are an easy way to add PIZZAZ to your look.
- Accessories are another great way to liven up your look. Fun jewelry, scarves, or glasses can easily add some interest to your look. Check out these great choices:
This top!!! Enough said. This top hides a multitude of issues and is flattering at the same time. V-neck – check, short sleeves – check, neutral color – check, draping over the belly – CHECK! I pulled the twist knot to the front of this top, but I noticed on the website that they wore the knot toward the side instead. Either way, this feature is worth its weight in gold for a person like me who carries most of their weight in this area.
This top comes in several colors, but navy is a great neutral that you can wear with almost anything. I noticed that each size is getting limited (or that is what they say), so grab your size before it sells out. I am wearing a medium, and I think that it fits me great.
A statement handbag will sure add interest to an otherwise neutral outfit. Other than the price tag, this Ella Canvas tote by Tory Burch is the PERFECT summer handbag! I love the neutral canvas and the contrasting leather trim, but I had to do a lot of talking before I bought the bag. Can I carry this for years to come? YES! Will it still be fashionable in three or four years? I think so! So, expect to see me carrying this bag for a while to make sure I get my money’s worth from it. Lol!
I just got these white jeans in the mail, and they are great white jeans. I cuffed the hem so that you could see my shoes, but these look fabulous un-cuffed also. I have to have fifteen different pairs of white jeans, but I can’t resist buying a few more. Lol! These jeans have a slim fit, but not a skinny fit. Plus, I sized up one size (31) so that they would be a tiny bit loose on me. With white jeans, I don’t want them to fit like extra skin. This pair seems to be on backorder, so I’ll link to a few others I’ve recently purchased.
My, my, my, my, my! These gingham bow heels are right up my alley! I am sure that a lot of you are saying, “those are gorgeous, but there is no way that I could wear them.”
The young lady taking my photos today said, “if you send those shoes back, you are crazy!” Lol! They do make you feel special when you put them on. This might not be the pair for you, but find a pair of shoes that makes you feel special, sexy, and like you are a superstar. Then, strap them on and strut your stuff!!!
My stuff is wearing a size 9 in these heels. Lol! But they are very limited in size, so I’ll see if I can find something else for you just if your size is already sold out.
