THE BASICS OF A CAPSULE WARDROBE
I am sure almost all of you have seen the hilarious messages that people have sent when their phone autocorrects some of the words. Autocorrect was made to make our lives easier, but a phone is not a person, and it can sometimes choose a word that makes no sense. I saw one today that said: “Where is granny? I thought she was coming for dinner.” “Granny is in the grave.” “WHAT? What are you saying?” “Sorry, stupid autocorrect. Granny is in the garage.” Whew, thank goodness that granny is alright. Lol!
This morning I received a strange message from my oldest son, and it wasn’t even an autocorrect. My son lives in Tennessee, which is five hours away from me. I picked up my phone and saw that I had a text from him, so I opened the message to see what he had to say. It read, “can you come in here and lay down with me?” I cracked up and was pretty sure that the message was not for me. So, I messaged him back and said, “you live a little far away from me for that to happen.” In just a few minutes, he sent a new message saying, “huh?” Then in a minute, he sent another message saying, “Looks like Matti was using my phone last night.” Matti is my soon to be eleven-year-old granddaughter. She had picked up my son’s phone and sent a message to “mom” thinking that it was her mom that she was messaging. Lol! It gave me a chuckle for the rest of the day.
I read through all of your suggestions the other about possible blog posts in the future. I have a few ideas in mind and will be looking into doing some of them soon. One subject that I have been toying with for a while is the idea of a basic or a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe can consist of any number of clothing items; it is dependent on how much space you have, or maybe on how much money you want to invest in clothing. Either way, you need to have a few essential pieces and then build on the wardrobe as you can. I have pulled fifteen clothing items from my closet to create a capsule wardrobe. This would also be the same as creating a travel wardrobe where you are limited on luggage. From these basis pieces, I will be able to create a considerable number of different looks, and I think you will enjoy seeing them come together. If the weather cooperates, I will take pictures later today of all of the clothing items that I chose, and I will also try and get photos of outfits to showcase all next week.
Today, we are starting with a basic white t-shirt. This will be great for wearing on its own, or for layering under a jacket or cardigan. A good basic white t-shirt is not easy to find. You will find them too thin, too short, too clingy, or they may wrinkle too easy. It may take you a couple of tries before you find the right one for you. The one that I am wearing is by Old Navy, and it is a tiny bit thin. However, as you can see from the photo, you can’t see through it. I am wearing a nude color bra, which I highly recommend. Nude is the color of your skin, so there is less chance that your bra will show. There is a luxe t-shirt from Old Navy that has thicker material, and I linked to it in the photos below.
I am packing my own capsule wardrobe this weekend since I am going to be going to Nashville on Tuesday. I am super excited to be going since I am going to be meeting some of my R+F team that I have never met in person. It seems crazy to me that I have never met these ladies, but I already know them. I have talked to them on the phone several times, and we see each other on our weekly ZOOM calls. We have ladies from Texas, New Jersey, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alaska, Virginia, Alabama, and Michigan, all staying in our house. Part of the beauty of an online business is the fact that you do not have a “territory” that you have to keep in. My R+F team is widespread, even into Canada and Australia. I might be wrong, but I have a feeling that R+F is going to announce that we will be going to Japan. I don’t know anyone in, or from, Japan, but maybe you do. Let me know if you know of someone who lived there before, this could be a big opportunity for them. Also, R+F will be announcing at least two new products on Friday. I love that they are continually innovating new products and tools to help all of us look better and feel better about ourselves.

Tania, my son just last week returned home after living in Japan for 10 years! You will absolutely love it if you get to go. I’ve been there twice. There is no where else on earth like it!
super excited for the capsule as I am trying to size down my wardrobe and just have less stuff!
I am really excited about your capsule wardrobe them. I can’t wait to see what you put together.
As I mentioned yesterday, I’m new here & today I spent all morning reading your blog. I’m so happy that you share your strong faith as well as your flair for fashion, and I’ve quite enjoyed reading your sweet stories about your family, as well. I’m now also following you on Pinterest & fb, and may just have to open an IG account so I can follow you there, too, haha. Thank you for being such a delightful inspiration!
I love the capsule or travel wardrobe idea! Thanks for doing it. And I can’t believe how cute that simple outfit looks. also thanks for sharing the funny anecdote from your son’s phone. I have sent plenty of those wacko text in my day. My son used to always say “Oh it’sr Mom – you can’t understand it.”
When traveling I always take scarfs. They weigh nothing and can really change the entire look of an outfit. I have traveled to Europe with a small suitcase because of a capsule wardrobe along with scarfs. It takes a little bit of planning but it can be done.
I finally gave up and created two basic capsules. One has gray, white, black and navy with tees to match to make a column and I just throw scarves, jewelry, jackets like red, turquoise, bags and shoes at it for color.
But I also love beige, tan, brown, colors I can’t wear near my face so I have a small capsule of those colors mostly in pants, shoes, bags. I love beige pants with white tee and coral necklace. Tan pants with red jacket. Looking forward to your new posts. You always surprise!
Have a great time in Nashville. One of my friends will be there as well.
I know what you mean about autocorrect! Every time I text my son, it changes “Hi honey” to “Hi homey”!!! Lol
I’m excited to see the capsule wardrobe ideas you have come up with! The text from your son/granddaughter made me laugh?
cant find jeans link
Shelia, you just click on the photos of the jeans underneath my photo and it will take you too the website.
I am so excited to see what you pull for your capsule. This help is exactly what I need before my trip to Israel. I am going to try and limit my items to a couple of colors, but am still deciding.
I am not good at limiting myself either, Linda. I will either pack waaaay too much, or because I am trying not to pack so much, I end up not taking enough.
Hi Tina!! Would possibly style your capsule wardrobe with. Scarves, jackets and sweaters. That’s my go to style also and when I try to put outfits together I have a tough time. Some thing fresh and colorful. I do Love muted colors. I would really appreciate it.
