DRESSING LIKE A FRENCH WOMAN FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
I want to wish all of you a Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a day set aside to celebrate women, although we should celebrate women every day instead of only one year a day. There is a theme for today, and it is #choosetochallenge. To change the mindset of how women are viewed and treated, we have to celebrate women who have had great accomplishments.
I searched for famous quotes from women to include in this article, and I was thrilled to find so many to choose from. I had heard some of these quotes before, but I didn’t know who said them.
1.
“Life is tough, my darling, but so are you” – Stephanie Bennet Henry
2.
“Always be a first-rate version of yourself and not a second-rate version of someone else.” – Judy Garland.
3.
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt.
4.
“If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” – Margaret Thatcher.
5.
“Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on.” – Serena Williams.
I was thinking of a way for me to celebrate International Women’s Day, and I decided that I should stick to my roots. Not my roots in a genetic sense, but in a fashion sense. So, I decided to try my hand at dressing like a French woman. Since I am not french, this is a total gamble on my part, but there are a few things that I know about French women.
Dressing Like A French Woman
French women are very stylish. They believe in quality over quantity and will invest in items that will last. French women develop their own style and don’t follow every trend. That doesn’t mean that they don’t dabble in trends, but they incorporate a trend into their own personal style.
French women like to look polished and put together; however, they don’t like to look like they tried too hard. You might see a French woman dressed perfectly, but her hair might be tousled. Some of the things that a French woman is known for would be a beautiful red lip, trench coats, their love of neutrals, and stripes.
The Dagne Dover Classic Tote is a perfect neutral handbag. This handbag is a coated canvas bag, and it can serve as a work bag and a fashion accessory. It is a nice large size, and it will hold a 15″ laptop. It has a padded compartment on one side that is perfect for the laptop or iPad, and it still has enough room for all of your other essentials. I’ve had this handbag for years, and it still looks brand new.
Stripes are a classic pattern that you will be able to wear for years. I love the v-neck style and the longer length of this striped tee. This is a nice roomy tee, but I still ordered a size large to make sure that it didn’t highlight any lumps in my tummy region.
This navy double-breasted jacket with the large gold buttons is one that I’ve had for a bit. I would probably never wear this jacket buttoned, I prefer it to hang loose.
I love the material’s thickness, and I think that the blazer is very chic, very classic, very polished, and very flattering. The blazer is a size 12, and I love the way that it fits. The jacket is almost completely sold out, so I’ll link to some similar ones for you.
This high-rise cropped flare jean has a cut hem look. The high-rise cropped jean is one that you will be seeing a lot of this spring and summer. The good thing about these jeans is that they look good with sneakers, flats, and heels, so they are very versatile. It has taken me a while to get used to them, but I am starting to come around. I ordered my usual size 30 in these, but I think that they are too tight through the waist. I already have a size 31 on order for me since I like these jeans a lot.
Speaking of flats…these navy flats are a pair from Appleseeds that I wore in a post on Friday. The flats are flashy, but they are fashionable and they pick up on the navy stripe and the navy blazer. The whole outfit is cohesive looking, and that makes it look like some thought and effort went into the look.
I had to add my favorite red high heel pumps to the look. To me, these pumps take the outfit from a casual and everyday look, to glamourous and date-night worthy. The large gold AVI hoop earrings, and the Beckett gold link necklace and bracelet are swoon-worthy, and give the whole outfit an elevated style.
I am celebrating this month because it is Joe’s Birthday month. He told me that I couldn’t make a big deal out of his birthday. I don’t think that announcing for the entire world to see is making a big deal. Lol! So, randomly, each week, I am going to pick a winner for a gift. The gifts will vary in size and price, and I will pick the winner from the comments that I receive during the week.
This past week’s winner is…..Rory! Keep commenting and you might be next week’s winner.

Looking classy and classic!
Love this look!
Love this look with the red heels!!
Really like this look on you. It also has a,nautical look to me as well.
Love your French woman look!
Nice to have some fun with fashion!
Tania- I like your French look! I also like how you are celebrating women, while incorporating scripture into your blog. It is very refreshing. Your fashion ideas keep me inspired. I can relate to your classic and trendy style. I would describe myself the same way. Thanks for the format and fun!
Love the outfit, especially with the red!
I would wear my white skinny crops and have a MK purse almost identical!
Love the red heels! Every girl needs some red shoes!
Are you wearing socks with the sneakers? I am finding it hard to wear shoes without socks. Lately it’s been too cold to try. I like the definition of a french woman and finding her own style.
Nope, Kim. I have a hard time wearing socks with anything.
Hi Tania! Looks fabulous…especially the heels. My daughter is known to throw on a red beret once in a while and she looks so cute – usually pairs it with navy. I would look ridiculous, but she says you have to act like it looks GREAT, and it will!!😄
You make a fabulous French woman!
I Love the red heels 👠 the best with the French
outfit! That was a nice lesson today. Everyday you inspire me. Happy Birthday to Joe!
Classic look. I wish I could wear white jeans but I’m too fat. Any alternatives? Bleached jeans?
Kathy, wear the white jeans. It is your mind that is the issue, not the jeans. If you are self-conscious, then wear a long cardigan with them. It will help you feel better until you are brave enough to wear them alone.
A gorgeous classic look with the heels, tennis shoes, or flats. I like the purse but it was not available the color you are wearing.
Love the looks, especially with the red heels.
Love the look. I am a more casual person (now that I’m retired!) but in love the red heels. Thanks for sharing!!
Navy and white are one of my favorite outfits. The red heels set of it off… totally classic!
Love everything about this outfit. It is casual yet looks polished and put together. I must purchase a pair of red pumps.
That’s my kind of outfit! Maybe I’m a little bit French! Lol!
I love the look on you Tania. Always like the classic look of stripes and adding a blazer elevates it.
Beautiful!
And…happy birthday to Joe. What is his date, did you say? March is a huge birthday month in our family. My mother turned 100 yesterday!!! Quite a feat!
I really like this outfit with the red pumps. Very stylish!
Quote#3 is my all time favorite. Not a fan of the ragged hem, but love the look!
Very beautiful and classy outfit! You would fit right in as a Parisian!!!!
I like celebrating! I like the quotes you found and that you took the time to include who said them! Cheers to you Tania! I also celebrate all women, may we all take time to realize we are uniquely special, some might not have realized what that is yet.
I also love this outfit. I like seeing the two shoe choices. seeing those beautiful red shoes gets me thinking of getting some! Even though my feet would be so mad at me.
Thank you for your quotes from women. Very nice. I like your outfit with the blue flats.
You look Fabulous as always.
Happy Womans Day !
I Love these quotes and the outfit. I adore French style.
Have always loved navy and white together. Crisp!
Great classic outfit! Love the stripes, the blazer, the white jeans and your jewelry choices. Thanks for showing the different looks with the shoes. Last week a woman on the street commented on how much she liked a little gold leather crossbody purse I was carrying while wearing a casual outfit. It made my day. It’s great to be a woman!
I love that you show us easy effortless styles! Thank you.
You look ooooo La La!!!!! Love the look !!!!! ❤️
I am a big fan of quotes and the ones you chose were great! I am also a big fan of stripes! It is helpful to see how the outfit changes with the simple change of shoe style. Love this post!
You are rocking that outfit, gurl!!! Happy Birthday to Joe!!!
Your comments reminded me of the show “Emily in Paris” that we binged watched on Netflix. Emily an American has her own youthful style and the French, their style, like you stated. I like both looks!
I was in Quebec City a few years ago in an art store. The owner came up to me and said “Oohh la la, you look SO pretty!!” She made my day and I will never forget it!! As women, we should always be looking for opportunities to make other women feel good about themselves! Her French accent just made it all the better!!
I have always loved navy and white!! Very Classy!
Love the style of the blazer…very flattering!
I love it with the red shoes, and the loafers are good, but I can’t get on the tennis shoe train with a tailored navy blazer. Call me a stick in the mud!
I wanted to add that the jeans could be super casual looking but adding the blazer takes it up a level and makes it dressy and good for work or night out.
I love this classy look. I have always stayed away from horizontal stripes though, because I thought larger women shouldn’t wear them.
Very classy and classic look. Love it. And those red heels..wow! I got the Avi hoops in gold and they have become a go-to item.
Happy International Women’s Day!
Love navy and white,it always looks classy!
What a chic outfit! I love it! The blazer tops it all off beautifully. I’m going to have to buy the blazer. It’s the second time I’ve seen it in your posts, and every time it looks so fab on you. Thank you for all the effort you put in your posts. I enjoy them all. Have a wonderful day 🌸
I love this look! I’ve been searching for a navy jacket with the cut in front and there it is! Unfortunately only really small sizes remain at Express, so my search continues. Thanks for sharing.
Always love navy and stripes, looks great!
Love your classic outfit!
I love the outfit . Very classy.
I love this outfit on you! The red pumps make it! We love France, and can’t wait to go back! In the meantime we are binge watching Call My Agent and all of the fashion is just as you described…put together but effortless..you nailed it with your outfits today. I’m ordering the blazer and white jeans! Happy Day😊
Classic look! Love the blazer!
Love this classic look, but I’m not ready to go for the cropped flare yet.
My favorite is with the red pumps!
I love the navy and white. Since I am short, I am trying the shorter pants with straight (not tight) legs and I think they look best on me. I need that navy blazer! Happy Monday!!
Great outfit Tania…it exudes confidence and class and you rock it, gurl! Happy International Women’s Day to all!
Very classy look. Love the nautical colors. Love the pop of red with the pumps. Happy birthday to Joe. I’ll also be celebrating with Joe as my birthday is this month as well
I like the look of the white pants and navy blazer! Very versatile.
I love the striped tee and blazer. Such a classic look!
Navy and white are such classics and love the pop of red in there.
A navy blazer is such a staple piece….looks great on you!
Such a classic outfit…looks great
Those red pumps look awesome on you!
May all women support and build each other up. We are our harshest critics. (And I am guilty of this!) Let’s use this month to set an example for a new trend – supporting one another and ourselves. My birthday wish for all – make this day and every day one in which we celebrate the power of women to do our best and look our best!
Great quotes!
Very classic! Love the red pumps with it!
Before I forget I really enjoyed yesterdays blog. It struck me that before your blog you were shy and didn’t have any fashion sense. I can relate. Also, that the Lord wanted you to do this blog. That’s awesome! Today you look so classic and beautiful. You always look so but together.
I just love your outfits and reading your blog. Thank you for the inspiration.
Love the quotes.
I like the French style and the red shoes add a lovely pop of colour.
I love the striped tee!
Looking very nice Tania! Happy Birthday month to Joe!
I haven’t embraced the shorter length pant yet but…never say never right?! I do hope to find a navy crop jacket for spring.
Tania, Happy International Women’s Day! Love the quotes! The outfit with the red pumps is my favorite. I have always loved this color combination. Thank you for inspirations.
You look so chic! I love the look with the red pumps.
Ooh la la! You look very chic! I would wear the sneakers or flats but you really rock the red heels. I was inspired to wear stripes today and to celebrate all the women in the world.
I love that tee. How sheer is it if worn alone?
It is not she are all. It can easily be worn alone.
Love French minimalist style! You look lovely!
Love the quotes about women by women! Great outfit! It’s great to be a woman and wonderful to have your blog to inspire us every day!!!
Very classy. Love the red pumps❤️
Very chic Tania Happy international women’s day 💖
I really like this outfit with red pumps. I love putting red with navy. Just classic style.
Happy Birthday to Joe!!!🎈🎉🎂🎈
Have recently started following and love the clothing ideas and blog! The quotes are a plus!
I like the outfit with the red pumps best! Love that pop of color! And I like every one of the quotes!
Beautiful outfit…so classy!
Love this outfit. Navy blue and white are classic!
I don’t know any French women, but I love your classic look especially with the blue shoes. I love the red shoes, too, but I would probably break my neck if I tried to wear heels anymore!
