Ladies, I’m traveling to Grundy today to work at the lumber company. For those of you who are new to my blog, we own a lumber company (think tiny Lowes), and I used to work there full time until I became a full-time blogger. Nothing says “fashion blogger” like working in a lumber company in a small town with no shopping opportunities. Lol! It goes to show you that anyone can do anything if you put your mind to it. I still work at the lumber company a couple of times each month, and today I’ll be reconciling the checkbook, which I’m hoping will go smoothly.

Thursday’s are my This or That posts, so I thought I would show you TWO outfits with shorts of different lengths. I love shorts of all lengths, and you can see it isn’t because I love showing off my leopard-printed legs. Thanks to years of not wearing sunscreen when I was young, I have the spots to show. That doesn’t keep me from wearing what I like, and I have shorts in various lengths. A pair of 3″ denim shorts is my favorite, but I also love a longer Bermuda pair. Wear what you like, and don’t worry about what others think!

The first outfit starts with an essential White Poplin Shirt with a 3/4″ sleeve. Many of you probably have a white button-up shirt in your closet to recreate this look easily. If you are like me, I try to replace my white shirts yearly or bi-yearly, so they look white and crisp. Usually, I make this an affordable purchase since I know I will be replacing them soon, but occasionally I’ll splurge on one. This is an affordable option at $24.00, and it comes in a wide range of colors. I’m wearing a medium, and it fits fine.

My jewelry is simple, the Adeline Hoop Earrings, a David Yurman Cable Loop Bracelet, and the Neutral Mother’s Day Bracelet Box Set. I forgot that I was wearing the Phoenix Wrap Ring in Vintage Gold; it is one that I don’t wear often, but it is unique, and I usually get comments when I have it on.

I added a Wrangler Classic Denim Jacket to the look, and I like the contrast in the colors. A denim jacket is like a white button-up shirt; you need at least one of these items in your wardrobe. I have several denim jackets in different colors, and I even have several in the traditional denim color. Each one is a tiny bit different, so I like wearing all of them. Right now, this one is my favorite since it is lightweight and stretchy. It moves with me and doesn’t feel constricting. I’m wearing a large, and I love the way it fits.

This is a leather Raffia wristlet in truffle, and I love the material and the size. The bag is perfect for shopping or going for a quick errand when I don’t need to bring my large handbag. This wristlet has HOBO Bags’ signature circular handle, and I love the textured design. The interior has a bill slot and six credit card slots. Plus, the interior back has a zip pocket for items you want to ensure don’t fall out. I’m still debating about getting a larger bag from this company since I like this one so much. I did place an order for some Coach handbags; I’ll link to those below.

These are 5″ Chino Shorts in Dark Yellow. A 5″ short is probably what I wear most often; it is a good length for me. I am 5’6″ tall, and this length makes my legs look longer than the Bermuda style short. I like the pockets; they seem to lay flat and don’t pucker. I’m wearing an 8 in these, even though a 10 was recommended. I think they fit well, but you might want to size up if you are between sizes. These come in several different colors, and you can never go wrong with black, white, or olive.

Here is a look from the back. You can see the length of the shorts, the shirt, and the jacket in this photo.

Now, let’s switch to the “That” outfit. This look is a lot more colorful, and the shorts are 4″ longer than the previous shorts. I’ll be interested to hear the comments from my Petite readers if Bermuda or a 9″ short will work for you.

Let’s start with the Sleeveless Poplin Shirt in a blue and pink floral print. This shirt reminds me of my Great Aunt, who was always hot, so she wore sleeveless button-up shirts a lot, but they were usually in a striped pattern. I love the style of this shirt, and I think it is very flattering. It is a great length that can be worn out or tucked in; the front and back are longer, with the sides being shorter. This top is on clearance, so it can’t be returned. I’m wearing a medium that fits fine, but I usually will order items on clearance larger because I can take it up, but I can’t let it out if it is too small.

I’m wearing blue jewelry for this outfit. The Insley Gold Hoop Earring in Blue Lapis and the Mother’s Day Turquoise Bracelet Set look great with the floral top. I love Lapis, so I love the New Arrivals from Kendra Scott. You can also see that I’m wearing my 18 Kt. Gold Vermeil Cross Necklace that I wear daily. I’ve worn this almost every day for over a year, and I haven’t had any issues with the gold coming off.

These are the 9″ Frankie Bermuda Shorts, and of course, this color is already sold out. Lol! That’s okay, the Bright Peri color would work just as well for this look, and you could wear them later with navy or white, and a denim jacket would look fantastic. I like the material of these shorts; they almost feel silky. I’m wearing a size 8 in these shorts, and they fit great.

I’ve had these Casual Strappy Sandals for a couple of weeks, and I still like them. The faux leather looks fantastic, and they are very easy to walk in. These are highly rated, and I see why since they are also comfortable. I did size up a half size, and the fit is perfect. I’m wearing the natural color, and there are several different colors to choose from if this color is not in stock.

Okay, that’s all for this week’s This or That post. So, which look do you prefer, and which length is your favorite for the shorts?

  1. I am petite at 5′ 2″. I prefer Bermuda shorts or the 9 inch length for me.

  2. You’re fashion tips are spot on! …and I think you look great in everything! …including short shorts!

  3. Susan Griffin says:

Love your posts! What would you suggest to wear on an overseas flight in July? Need help!

  4. I am short and I try to stick to 7” lengths. On you, the first pair are so much more flattering! I’m surprised because I generally prefer longer shorts.

  5. I prefer th e longer shorts. The best for me are 7 inch and they are very hard to find.
Only wear the shorter ones for yard work.
Also love a nice skort if the length is close to 15 inches.

  6. Definitely the longer pink ones for me but if I had your legs I may well be wearing the shorter ones too! Lucky you.

  7. I prefer the tan shorts, white shirt, and denim jacket outfit. Classic chic outfit! I am 62 and still wear shorts! You look great Tania.

  8. My opinion, longer shorts always look better on women 50 and over. Also like darker colors.. the yellow look to close to your leg color…from a distance hard to tell your legs from the shorts…

  9. I like both lengths on you. The longer pair IMO would be great for shopping, going out and the shorter pair for outdoor events.

  10. You look nice in either length short. I prefer a Bermuda length for myself, but at 5’9” anything shorter is a little too short for my comfort. If I’m working in my backyard or sitting out there reading, I’ll go shorter, but for outside the house, I like a longer length.

  11. Barbara Maxwell says:

The longer shorts look great on you. Shorter shorts are for younger women. Just my opinion!!

  12. Debra Calhoun says:

I like the second look and short length best.

  13. I love the longer ones. I may be drawn to the color, though. I think both lengths look great on you. Because I’m short, I prefer a 7” length but they are harder to find.

  14. Gayle M Davis says:

Both look great on you but for me, it is That!

  15. I like the longer shorts for ladies over 50. Even if you can wear daisy dukes, lol. Always love your jewelry. Let me know if you stumble upon bargain handbags. Thanks.

  16. I didn’t think I would like the shorter shorts, but they get my vote. I’m not sure why. I know they look good and hip on you. I think it’s all a matter of body type of course. The pink Bermuda’s sort of look dowdy for some reason. I’m rethinking all I know about shorts!
And your leopard-spotted legs…hahahaha! I laughed out loud on that one! Ain’t it the truth! But I like your attitude; don’t worry about what anybody thinks!

  17. I just can’t choose between the two! I really like both. I also prefer a 4” short but have some a bit longer as well. Thanks for the great post!

  18. Kathleen K Plond says:

The longer shorts! I’m short and I prefer longer shorts. They hide my flabby thighs.

  19. “That” shorts are much classier in the longer length and look very nice on you. I’m not wild about the matronly sleeveless shirt. I would have picked this but i strongly prefer the pink versus yellow shorts for the length.

  20. I love both looks on you, but personally I would only wear the Bermuda shorts. All of these colors look great on you. I love how you style Jean jackets. I love them too, and just added a black one to my wardrobe.

  21. I’m 5’8″ and wear 9″ shorts. Just a nicer look for my legs. 🙂
The outfits are cute and love the colors!

  22. Kathy Ellenburg says:

As a petite person, (5 ft. 2 in.) the pink Bermuda shorts are too long. I prefer 7 in shorts.

  23. I love the hot pink shorts but those are a bit too long for me unless I am wearing espadrilles. My legs are not good enough to wear 5-inch inseam. I like the 7-inch inseam from Tommy Bahama. Love your blog!

  24. Melisssa Murrell says:

I like the second outfit. The shorts seem to elongate your legs. I don’t wear shorts anymore…

  25. Sandy Butler says:

You look good in shorts. I think the pink look more dressy. I have cellulite so bad that I don’t wear shorts even though I am thin.

  26. Maria Vazquez says:

You always look good. However, for myself, I would always wear the longer shorts. They make your legs look leaner and if you are petite like me (5’2”) they make everyone look taller!😊

  27. Rosalinda Salcedo says:

Hello Tania you actually look great with both!! Me personally I like the bermudas better. Hope everything is well with you and your family! Take care 🙏❤️

  28. “This” is my favorite look – although I would wear longer shorts style.

  29. Catherine says:

I have long legs so the Bermudas look better on me, but love the stying of the yellow shorts with the white shirt and denim jacket! Does anyone else miss their old knees? Mine used to be so cute, now they sag 😢

  30. Susan Stancliff says:

I definitely am a short shorts girl. I am only 5′ tall and bermudas make me look like I have no legs. Love both of these outfits

  31. Ok OF COURSE u look great in ‘This’ & ‘That’ …….that being sd, I like ‘This’ “look” the best but I like ‘That’ shorts length the best. Love, love, love those earrings!

  32. Karen Jean Deel says:

I like the longer shorts best. It makes your legs look longer.

  33. Oh this one is hard to choose for me. I am drawn to bright colors. Specially in spring. But I prefer 5 inch shorts. But I know I wouldn’t wear the Bermuda length. So I would go with “this” outfit. I just might order a brighter color.

  34. Bambi Smith says:

Love both looks on you. Being petite I like the 5 inch shorts better. Having short legs i cannot pull off the bermuda shorts. I also have the leopard spotted legs.!!

  35. The longer shorts are much more flattering.

  36. Luisa Peterson says:

The 9″ bermuda shorts look the best on you (and me).

  37. Shorts length has really been a big question for me this spring! I’m 67, 5’8” and my legs are in pretty good shape. A little more sag above the knees than I’d like, but still pretty good. My question has been, is there an age when you need to just go with the longer ones because you’re too old not to. It’s been very interesting to read the opinions of others.

  38. I like both, the first is my favorite, but the shorts I like best are 7″. I’m exactly between these two! Love the lapis hoop earrings.

  39. LYNN DAUGHTRY says:

I think the shorter ones look better but the pink ones are cute too

  40. Diana VanWinkle says:

You look great in both, and I might buy the second shirt in white, but I just never look good in Bermuda shorts so I would vote for THIS and not THAT.

  41. 9″ shorts all the way!

  42. Kathy Hayles says:

I love both looks, but the first outfit is my favorite!

  43. You look great in all but I really like the first picture! The yellow shorts, white shirt and denim jacket look more youthful!

  44. You look great in both, but I’m going with the pink outfit. Pink is your color! You’re tall enough to wear the shorter short. I’m 5’4″ and bermuda shorts make me look even shorter. I don’t feel like I have the legs for the shorter ones.

  45. First of all, I love both looks on you! And I so appreciate that you don’t automatically rule out the Bermudas for us petite Gurls! I am edge towards 69 so I know I I am older than many of your readers. I have veins that no spray tan or self tanner is going to cover. And although I stay in shape, the fact is the skin is beginning to sag in the area just above my knees. Even at 5’2” and 130 pounds, I am most comfortable in Bermuda‘s and I take pride in giving an outfit polish and style while wearing the length that I feel confident in. I feel your blog out of all those that I follow has given me confidence to dress the way I feel best and not buy someone else’s rules. So, thank you!

  46. Definitely prefer the bermuda shorts.

  47. Julia Gilbert says:

    Love the hot pink!

  48. Susan Dingmore says:

THAT for sure. I like the longer length shorts and would like the THIS look better if the shorts were longer; longer shorts would create a more timeless & refined look. (IMO! Lol) I’m petite and 9in bermudas work great!

  49. I like both on you! I wear 5” shorts bc I’m petite. Love the idea of wearing a poplin shirt. We are going to an outdoor concert this weekend. I think I will duplicate this outfit. Thanks

  50. Diane Wilson says:

Definitely the longer version – classy!

  51. Great article! Love both shorts on you. But I vote for the shorter one, looks great, less fabric to wrinkle. I am 5’3″, and turning 65 next month, my go to short length is about 5″, a 9″ or 10″ length, makes me look 2 inches shorter and 30 pounds heavier. But I am really leggy, with a short torso. I find it interesting that over the decades since maybe mid 30’s to have routinely been told that -you need to wear bermuda’s at -insert any age over 30. And, no, I was not wearing daisy duke shorts, my short length was mid thigh i.e. about 4-5″ long. I am so glad for your articles and positive body images. Have a blessed day.

  52. For myself, I would choose the longer pink shorts, for their color and their length. Sadly and vainly, I still grieve the loss of my beautiful, muscular, near perfect skin legs!😆. I truly miss wearing short shorts and bikinis. The longer length doesn’t look great on me but I’m less self conscious and more comfortable when I wear them…rare as it may be. Both outfits are cute though!

  53. Maribeth Conklin says:

    GM
I really hate my legs. 65 years old I’m thin but have plenty of cellulite. So I rarely wear shorts. If I do wear shorts it would be the longest Capri length I could find. Funny I will wear gym shorts to exercise in once I have my forbidden tan. Tans hide a multitude of problems.

  54. This and that! Both are great styles. Really like the “this” color combo!

  55. Both. But really like the pink just something about the color that says that’s me

  56. I like both lengths but I only wear Bermuda shorts myself. I am very drawn to that pink color. It’s beautiful!

  57. Longer version much more attractive for this petite 67-year old. Thanks for all your efforts!

  58. Both look great on you but if I had to pick one for you, it would be the shorter. For me, the Bermuda short works better. Have a great day!

  59. Tracy Gray says:

I love all your posts. But this one very much. At 5’”’2 am I like the shorter shorts not super short but midway thigh and as I age I was worried I would look like I was trying to look young. But you looked great in each length you showed and gave me the confidence to continue wearing my shorts. Thank you.

  60. Becki Zingg says:

I think you can pull off either look nicely. I prefer the longer short. I am 5’1” and I don’t wear shorts, but I do wear skorts! I struggled with Bermuda length even when I was younger.

  61. krista rogers says:

YOU look great in both, but i’m a “that” girl! give me color any day!!!

  62. Pink!!! The length looks best!

  63. I like the length and look of the 9 inch short, option 2 for myself. Both pairs look lovely on you but I am more comfortable in the longer short. I am petite but my legs do not look the s a me as even 5 years ago so that influences my selection. In summer i usually choose dresses or skirts, midi or knee length. Lovely job styling both of these outfits and I do adore a good white shirt!

  64. Ginger Hiller says:

I really like both looks. While I have preferred to wear more bermuda length shorts, I now realize that wearing shorts that aren’t quite that long can add length to my long legs. I am happy that I have long legs, so why not show them off. Your attitude about not being concerned with what others think about my legs is just what I needed to hear, so thank you! Good luck balancing the checkbook at the lumber company!

  65. Your legs look great, but I like the longer shorts much better!!

  66. Cheryl Tollefson says:

Those are both great! I like the Bermuda length but no gap, tighter fit toward he knees. I barely wear shorts but those I find the most comfy. Have fun a work today!
    Cheryl from MN

  67. I definitely like the “that” outfit better. I think it looks more flattering and I prefer the brighter colors.

  68. Both outfits look great on you!! I like the one with the hot pink shorts better!! You are a firecracker! And the brighter colors suit you!!❤️

  69. Rekha Dharmaji says:

9″ bermuda shorts look better on you.
