Stylish Loungewear You’ll Want To Wear In Public
Let’s face it: when the pandemic hit, we all got used to the idea of wearing cozy clothes day in and day out. But now that life has resumed its regular pace, many of us are left wondering how to blend the comfort of loungewear with the need to look pulled together when we’re out and about. Today, I’m sharing some stylish loungewear you’ll actually want to wear in public, as well as some styling tips to ensure you don’t look frumpy or sloppy in your comfy clothes!
I’m here to tell you that loungewear isn’t just for those cozy days at home anymore. When styled correctly, it can be a chic and effortless choice for running errands, grabbing coffee, or meeting a friend for brunch. I bet you will agree with me when you read the entire post.

What Is Loungewear
First things first, let’s define loungewear. It’s essentially the clothing you wear when you’re lounging around the house or out and about running errands (because, let’s be honest, we’re not always lounging on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a Netflix marathon). It’s the perfect blend of comfort and style, allowing you to feel like you’re wearing your pajamas all day without actually looking like you just rolled out of bed.
Why Loungewear is a Wardrobe Essential
Loungewear has evolved significantly in recent years, and thank goodness! Gone are the days of frumpy sweatpants and oversized T-shirts. Designers have caught on to the fact that women want to be comfortable without sacrificing style. For women over 50, this is especially true, because we want pieces that allow us to move easily but still look polished.
The beauty of modern loungewear is that it’s versatile. Whether you’re lounging at home, heading to the grocery store, or even grabbing lunch with friends, the right loungewear can make you look and feel put together. The key is choosing the right fabrics, silhouettes, and accessories to elevate the look from “I just rolled out of bed” to “I look effortlessly chic.”
Can You Wear Loungewear In Public
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: can you wear loungewear in public? The short answer is yes, absolutely! With the rise of athleisure wear, it’s totally acceptable to rock a pair of stylish joggers and a sweatshirt while running errands or meeting up with friends. I also love wearing stylish loungewear sets when heading out the door. Just make sure to add a few fashionable touches, like a statement jacket or a pair of trendy sneakers, to elevate your look, and you are ready to meet the great outdoors.

Running Errands
For a casual day of running errands, opt for a matching jogger and sweatshirt set or tracksuit. This kind of outfit is perfect for staying comfortable while looking chic at the grocery store, post office, or even a quick coffee run.
I love this color! The jacket and jogger are sold separately, but they are made from the same fabric. They both have great details and are soft and comfy. Unfortunately, I messed up and ordered a large when I should have bought mediums.
This is very much something I would throw on to run to grab a missing ingredient from the grocery or head to a store to make a clothing return. Easy and comfortable, but still cute and accessorized!
This is a Spanx inspired look that I was so happy to stumble upon! I share all about it in this post, but just know that it is almost identical to the much pricier brandname set. I love the black and white design, and that I can remove the jacket if I get too warm!
I loved the black and white set so much that I ordered another version in navy. It is super comfy and feels amazing! Plus, it is very stylish and looks great.
Lunch with Friends
Heading out for a casual lunch? Here are some cozy, comfortable looks that are perfect for a relaxed lunch setting with your girlfriends or daughter!
I wore this outfit so often last winter that Joe asked me if the washing machine was broken, LOL! Can you tell I love this shade of pink? This sweater also looks great with a pair of denim if you are wanting to dress it up a little bit.
I love this baby blue sweater set. It isn’t as heavyweight as some, which makes it absolutely perfect for early fall weather. I like that I can wear the pieces separately. The top looks fabulous with white or dark-wash jeans.
Traveling
Loungewear is a traveler’s best friend! Whether you’re flying or embarking on a road trip, you want to be comfortable but still presentable. Choose a pair of slip-on sneakers for ease at the airport, and layer a lightweight trench coat or long cardigan over your set for added warmth.
This is the perfect traveling outfit! I like the joggers since they aren’t as tight as leggings, and the oversized sweater has the perfect amount of slouchiness without looking sloppy. If you get hot on airplanes, be sure to wear a tee or tank underneath the sweater so you can shed a layer!
How darling is this velour set? It comes in a bunch of colors, but this light pink is my favorite! Tell me this wouldn’t be cute AND comfy on a long road trip or flight!
Weekend Brunch
If you have a weekend brunch date on your calendar, you can’t go wrong showing up for mimosas in a chic matching set like these!
This is one of those looks that’s going to leave them guessing if you’re wearing loungewear or if you’re wearing a sweater with trousers! Pair it with a ballet flat and a cute handbag, and you can get away with wearing this super comfortable outfit to the office, funeral home, dinner, etc.
I love this sweater loungewear set! The medium fits me just right. It’s made from soft fabric that feels amazing. This set consists of a button-down sweater cardigan with batwing sleeves and wide-leg pants with an elastic waistband.
This set is very similar to a more expensive set by Free People. I’m wearing a large, and that size is perfect for me. When the weather turns cooler, I’ll throw a blazer or denim jacket over the sweater. I dressed it up with a wedge, but you could easily wear a pair of sneakers!
This is an elevated loungewear set! I love the cable-knit design that gives the set an upscale vibe. I’m not as thrilled with the small logo on the chest, but I guess that doesn’t make too big of a difference. This is a thicker set, so it will be perfect for when winter arrives.
Stylish Loungewear That Caught My Eye:
If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you probably know my love for Talbots runs very deep. They can do no wrong in my eyes, and that includes their activewear! I mean, how cute is this funnel neck pullover paired with with joggers? The super soft, sleek fabric is the cherry on top! If you don’t love the funnel neck, you can also grab this half-zip instead.
I know some of you gurls live in areas where it’s still going to be hot outside for many weeks to come! If this is you, and you are thinking none of these loungewear sets will work for you, don’t forget there are so many cute matching short sets out there!
This set from Amazon is super popular among women, both young and old! It looks super chic with a pair of slide sandals or mules, depending on the weather. It comes in lots of great colors, but you can’t go wrong with this cream and black combo! Here’s a long sleeve version, in case you’re shopping for winter weather.
Okay, I think I NEED this loungewear set! The top of this two-piece set reminds me of a retro varsity sweater! It would be perfect for layering over a crisp white shirt with jeans for a sporty, casual look.

they are all sooo cute on you Tania. I have the Talboys one in navy as well as a couple others in that new Airknit and Passport line. The fabrics are wonderful and they all come in Petite which is necessary for me!
I wish the ones on Amazon came in petite. They are so cute. Old Navy and Gap do have nice ones in petite. I try to buy when they are on sale but they are still more expensive than Amazon. Seems everything in petite is more expensive.🫤
This is the perfect subject for me. I absolutely LOVE lounge wear. I wear it darn near 24/7, except when cleaning. I loved your post.
Would love to find some of these in petite sizes! (other than the one from Talbots which is available in petite sizes. I love Talbots, but the clothes are on the expensive side.)
Becky, Old Navy and Gap also offer petite sizes. Old Navy is more affordable.
Such great looks today, the blue outfit with the denim jacket is so stylish.
Such cute options. I like the velour type sets. I have to buy ones that I can get the tops and bottoms seperately.
Great outfits today. I love the blue outfit with the denim jacket!
Such cute athleisure clothes today! I love the blue outfit with the denim jacket (i plan to copycat it!) and the light blue two piece set is super attractive too. Thank you for the great ideas!
Charleston is a great city with beautiful architecture, history and great food,
lol I said the same u said I love it your colors. Baby blue too and light pink velour !!
Gotta get one .
Love all the track suit inspiration! Love that it’s making a comeback.
Oh my gosh, I want them all! I’m going to order the color block suit in green/ coral. Thanks Tania!
I just watched a video that said not to wear lounge wear out but I disagree with it. There’s so many nice sets that can be dressed up as you have shown us here.
Nothing beats getting to be with your sister and going places. It’s so much fun.
I think I’d like some loungewear like some of these. I can see me rocking one at Christmas time when the family gets together!
Yes! I LOVE lounge wear!!! I particularly love the joggers and denim jacket and the travel outfit! I can’t really wear sets because I like a small bottom and medium top… Happy Wednesday ❤️❤️❤️
I love these lounge sets! so cute and versatile. I can’t wait for cooler weather to as then to my closet!
Loungewear. Cute
Not a fan of velour but love the solid colored other loungewear
I love the first outfit. With lounge wear I am careful that it doesn’t look too Golden Girls like. Remember the track suits of the 80’s.
Great sets! Thanks for showing so many options!
LOVE these! I saw a set at Sam’s, of all places, but that day it was over 90 degrees and I didn’t buy, thinking it would be there for a while. By the next week, it was sold out in store and online. I will definitely be ordering one (or more) of these.
Cute loungewear I wish Amazon would make a petite length. Next vacay idea-we like Myrtle Beach this time of year, it’s quiet & the weather is great! Our NC mountains are beautiful this time of year!🍁
