STATEMENT PIECES TO HELP YOU STAND OUT WITH YOUR FASHION

Fashion Blogger 50 Is not Old is making a bold statement in this brightly colored floral silk shirt, spring green denim jacket, girlfriend jeans, and white leather sneakers from Kate Spade with ruffles

Today is going to be a GOOD day! I am feeling BOLD, and my outfit reflects that. I have found that so many women feel invisible as they get older. People don’t value our opinions, our knowledge, and they tend to view us as outdated. Some of us might be guilty of being set in our ways, and I am here to shake you up! Today’s look is FULL of statement items, and you will not be a wallflower in this look.

Spring is all about florals. My daffodils have bloomed, and the tulips are popping open. Everywhere I look, I see the beauty of nature, and I want to add that to my wardrobe.

Wearing a statement item or three is a great way to say, HEY, I am here, and I want you to see me. Did you watch the movie AVATAR? One of mine and Joe’s favorite lines is, “I see you.” Who doesn’t want to be seen?

Fashion Blogger 50 Is not Old is making a bold statement in this brightly colored floral silk shirt from J Crew

I wore a printed silk shirt from J Crew back in January, and I got hooked! That shirt featured a smaller print, and it had a dark background. My mother thought that it was too colorful, so I can imagine what she thinks about this statement piece.

I am in love with this bright silk shirt, and Joe even commented on it when I walked through to take photos. He said, “wow, I really like that!” When I questioned him about why he liked the outfit, his response was, “everyone looks better in some color.” Who knew that Joe was a fashionista? Lol!

He is right about one thing; bright colors will brighten your face. There are so many colors to choose from with this statement top, and I will have a blast finding shorts and capris to match these colors. I am wearing a size 12 in the shirt because I didn’t want gaping buttons, and it is referred to as a slim-fit shirt. The only downside…it is silk, so it has to be dry-cleaned.

You can grab this shirt, along with three other pieces, and get it at a 40% savings. That is how I bought mine; you know that I am always looking for a good sale. Use the code – SHOPMORE for the discount. The sale ends tonight at midnight ET.

I didn’t need jewelry competing for attention with this shirt, so I added a pair of small hoop earrings in gold. I had broken my gold vermeil thin chain, so I haven’t been wearing it lately. I finally got it fixed, and I am thrilled to be styling it with a gold vermeil cross once again. Lastly, I added the Natalie hinged bangle that I’ve been wearing.

Hmmm, does adding the jacket make the look bolder or tone it down? I love the color of this jacket, and I couldn’t believe how well it matched the shirt since I didn’t order them together or at the same time.

I seem to love everything about this spring green jacket. The color, the military-style, the length, and the band collar are all things that I love about the jacket. I almost ordered the jacket in violet, and it would probably have matched as well. The size that I am wearing is a large, and it is the perfect size for me, especially if I want to layer with a thin sweater later.

I also ordered this shirt to go with the jacket, and I’ll style that for you soon. It will look fabulous with the jacket and a pair of white jeans.

I’ve had this Vera Bradley leather handbag for many years. I was skeptical that I would carry the bag very much, but I’ve found all kinds of ways to carry this tote. Bright accessories are a great way to add a statement piece if you are uncomfortable wearing a colorful and bright top. You can pick brightly colored jewelry, shoes, handbags, or scarves to liven up your look.

This pair of girlfriend jeans have just the right amount of looseness. I’m not even sure that is a word, but these jeans don’t fit too tight, and they aren’t too loose. They have a small amount of elastane, so they do have some stretch. These jeans hit me at my waistline, so they are mid to high-rise jeans.

The inseam on these jeans is 29″ if they are unrolled and 26″ when rolled two times. I am wearing a size 10 in the jeans, and they fit great.

Here is another statement piece. Aren’t these the cutest leather sneakers EVER? These sneakers are by Kate Spade, and the ruffle detail gives them an adorable feminine touch. I immediately fell in love with these sneakers, especially when I saw that they also came in pink! I am wearing my usual size 9, and they are just a tad big. If you wear socks with them, they would fit perfectly.

Since I had on a pair of white sneakers, I thought that wearing a white denim jacket would look great with the shirt also. You can never go wrong with a white denim jacket in the spring and summer months. And, this jacket has a unique detail that makes it a true statement piece.

Look, the jacket has a ruffled collar that matched the shoes!!! I love it when things fall together and make me look like I knew what I was doing. Lol! This was not planned and was a happy little accident. Just call me the Bob Ross of fashion. Hahaha.

The jacket is lightweight and will be great for cool spring mornings and afternoons. I am wearing a medium jacket, which seems to be the correct size for me. BTW, the jacket also comes in a pale pink color that is very pretty. There is a sale going on where you get 40% off 3 items, so you can grab both of the jackets and the shirt with the blue vases and get them all at 40% off. No code is required; the discount will show up at checkout.

Here is the look with the shirt using a half-tuck. I am not great at a half-tuck, but here is a small video on how I do one.

I hope that you liked today’s outfit. Is this something you would wear, or do you think it is too bright and bold? Just because something makes a statement doesn’t mean that you can’t wear it in many different ways. Here is a post where I took a statement top and showed how to wear it in five different ways.

    Hi Tania!
I had to tell you how excited I was about the silk blouse you posted in this blog post. When I saw it in your insta stories I went right to J Crew to see if it was on their site and sure enough! It was! Once you wrote this blog post and went right on to order it. I also noticed the jacket was from Talbot’s. I had already ordered the lilac jacket. I tried to order the green too but my size was sold out. I think the purple color will go well with the shirt too. I love all the flowers on that shirt! Thanks for picking such beautiful statement pieces!

Could you give a few options of a less expensive blouse? Definitely not in my price range for a blouse.

  40. Hi! I LOVE all of the colors in your outfits in this post! I especially love the combination of the green jacket over your silk shirt. I love color too, and it lifts my mood and spirit when I wear bright colors. Just yesterday, I wore the Chico’s (bright) Tango Orange contemporary tank underneath their white denim jacket, with denim crops on the bottom, and lo and behold, when I received my “Vaccinated” sticker after my 1st shot, the sticker they gave me matched my outfit – it was orange and blue! Haha!
