The places I go and the things that I do just to get a photo are pretty comical. Gone are the days when I just walked outside on my front porch and snapped a photo. Now, I try to have some visual interest in my photos, which is not always an easy task. Today, I was looking for a backdrop for my black and olive outfit, and I decided on this field.

Doesn’t this location look ideal for this outfit? The tree’s shade is great for photos, and the colors work well with my black and olive outfit. So, what you might ask was the problem? GNATS! Thousands and thousands of gnats were flying all around because of the hay. Plus, my assistant who was taking my photos is petrified of bugs in general. So, between me swatting gnats away from my face and her dancing around because she was afraid a bug was crawling on her (it was hay), I am lucky that I even got any photos. Lol!

Black and olive are a fantastic combination. I love how the dark and light play off each other, and I think it helps each item stand out. This is the first year that I have loved wearing olive near my face. Normally, I will only wear this color as a pant, but I can’t get enough of this fantastic neutral this year.

I styled this olive twill anorak or utility jacket the other day with a white button-down. This jacket is lightweight and has a drawstring waist. I love that feature because I like leaving my jackets open so that you can see the clothing underneath. I am wearing a large in this jacket so that I can wear a shirt under it without feeling confined. I feel like the jacket runs true to size.

I wanted to give you a view from the side/back so you could see the length of the jacket. This is a view you should always check before you head out of the door, but I am guilty of not doing that myself. There will always be people walking behind you, going up an escalator, or shopping at the grocery store, so it is an important view also.

I can’t believe that a pair of pull-on jeans have become my favorite pair of jeans. Lol! Maybe 50 is not old is getting old, or the pull-on jeans have upped their game. I wouldn’t have been caught dead in pull-on jeans years ago, and now I wear these ALL OF THE TIME!!!

Unfortunately, this style is tough to come by and is limited in size. However, the Elosie style (another one of my favorites (see here)) is available. Also, there are a few other pull-on styles that I’ll link to below. Maybe you will be able to find something you like. I am thinking about this pair that is a darker wash.

This is going to be the perfect fall transition clutch! The design had me thinking about palm leaves and vacation get-away. But, the olives and khaki neutrals will be perfect for this fall with all of my khaki clothing. The embroidered bag comes with a long strap so that you can use it as a crossbody and carry it like a clutch.

I also styled the outfit with a black leather tote so you would have options. Some women prefer a larger handbag, and this one is a great size. This one is sold out since it was part of the Nordstrom sale, but I linked to it anyway since it might get re-stocked later. I’ll also link to some similar totes that are available.

A simple black v-neck tee is a great versatile item. I have black tees in all different price ranges, but the ones by Madewell seem to be my favorite. These are not thick, but they aren’t see-through thin either. They are soft to the touch, and the cut flatters my body shape. I usually order large tees because I don’t want them to cling to me or shrink in the dryer. Here are some others for you to see in case your size is not available in this one.

When it comes to wearing black and olive together, you could wear either gold or silver. Both options work great with these neutrals, but I chose to wear gold. I probably wear gold 90% of the time, so it shouldn’t surprise you that I chose to wear it today.

I’m wearing the large Maggie filigree hoop earrings, the gold vermeil Elisa monogrammed pendant that was gifted to me by Kendra Scott. This is one of my favorite necklaces, and I wear it a lot since I broke my cross pendant. I just ordered a new chain for that last night, so I’ll be wearing it again soon.

I almost forgot to tell you about my sunglasses and my shoes. You’ve seen me wear both items before, and you’ll probably see me wear them a lot more in the future. These are both items that can be worn with multiple outfits, so that makes them very versatile.

The Ray-Ban sunglasses that I am wearing are a great size. I like my sunglasses to be large enough that they cover my eyebrows. I’m not sure why, but that is how I like to wear them. Am I the only one who is picky about that???

The neutral flats are in the color saddle. They also come in black, but I wear this color all of the time. I am wearing my usual size 9, and I think these shoes run TTS.

  2. I miss the pictures of you at your front door! Gone are the days of doing that? Why? Just wondering…but I like the places where you’re doing pictures now too. But, as you say, I’m sure it’s a lot more work for you.
Love the outfit and I had to have the clutch! Perfect. I own a similar jacket and a black tee. I agree with you, olive looks good with black. Your styling today is so simple, yet so chic. Love!

  3. I also like olive and black, in fact I am on vacation and i packed olive pants, black tank top and a denim shirt for our return flight. 🙂
I think the backdrop is perfect for your photos is perfect! You look great with olive near your face – I have not made the transition yet – and not sure if I ever will. 🙂

Love that scripture verse! The scenery is perfect for your outfit. I normally do not wear olive near my face either, and I actually donated my olive jacket last year. I am learning from you and Jo-Lynne Shane that olive and black look great together. I would like to know what other colors you will wear the olive jacket with. Thanks!

  6. Love the olive and black together. I must get that jacket and I need to look into getting pull on jeans. They will be great for eating at buffets! LOL

  7. I really like the Sonoma v-neck t-shirts at Kohls. They have some wicked sales, so you can get them pretty inexpensively, though full price isn’t very high.
Love the jacket, passed on it b/c I haven’t been wearing jackets much. 🙁

  9. This is the perfect anorak style! I love that there are no big flap pockets over the girls. This is one I’m going to check out.

  10. I love the new olive neutral. It’s a softer color than I’m use too. What a great price! Looks great with black. My jag jeans had to go to my SIL. I found them too short in the crotch. She loved them.
I love pull ons now. They are just more comfortable than reg jeans. I could get use to them.

  11. I just love the olive and green together. Like you I too have started wearing more olive colors too. The jeans are amazing especially since they’re pull on. I’d like to give those a try. Great outfit!

  12. Love this! I got the jacket a few weeks ago and would love additional ideas to wear with it.

  13. I can’t believe those are pull on jeans. They look awesome. Sorry about the gnats but I have really been enjoying all the different photo locations. Your front porch is nice but WOW the pics have really upped your game☺
