WEAR AN ARGYLE SWEATER WITHOUT LOOKING FRUMPY
Gurls, today I want to show you how to wear an argyle sweater without looking frumpy. But first, a few questions! Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? Are you going to wear something special? Do you wear pink or red on Valentine’s Day? Who is your Valentine? Will he buy you a Valentine’s Day gift? Those were some questions that came up the other night when I was babysitting for my granddaughter. I told her my answers, and then I turned the tables on her and asked her some questions.
Once she answered my questions, it became clear that she has a certain little boy in mind to be her Valentine. She already has a small present for him, a homemade Valentine card, and a note that says, “do you like me check Yes or No.” Then she proceeded to gush about him and tell me how he kept her from falling on the playground. Who can resist a knight in shining armor? Then she started to giggle and blush. Oh! My! Word! She is SEVEN!!! Start saying a prayer now for her parents; they are going to need them. Lol!
The Non-Frumpy Argyle Sweater
The argyle sweater has made a comeback!!! How many of you remember wearing the argyle sweater back in the 90s? 🙋 I sure remember those, especially the sweater sets that looked so cute. They say that everything comes back around, and that is especially true in fashion. Sweater sets are trending, white boots are trending, and the argyle sweater is trending.
The argyle sweater is back with a vengeance, but it has a different cut and look. It is more relaxed, and the length is longer. Plus, back when I wore them, they were worn mostly for work or dressy occasions. I don’t remember ever wearing mine with jeans.
This bright pattern fits right in with my bright and colorful week that I’ve been posting for you. I’ve always thought that orange and fuchsia looked great together, and this sweater shows that I was right. This soft sweater feels like cashmere, but it isn’t. So, for those who can’t wear cashmere, this sweater is for you. It is a tad oversized, I am wearing a medium, and it is a tiny bit large.
I wanted to give you a look at the back of the sweater so that you could see the length. You will also notice that the pattern doesn’t extend to the back; it is only on the front and the sleeves.
Some people might still associate an argyle sweater with their granny, so we want to style it in a modern way. I don’t want any of you ever wearing outfits that look frumpy, so I’ll do my best to keep that from happening. One of the best ways to look modern is to wear a few trends. The jeans that I chose to wear with the sweater have a raw hem, which is a trend that is style going strong. Wearing these jeans will show those who see you that you are modern, stylish, and trendy.
These chewed hem jeans fit like a glove, and I find them very flattering. I ordered my normal size 30 in these jeans, but the website suggests sizing up one size. However, the size 31 was sold out, so I took a chance and ordered them anyway. They are very snug, and I probably would be more comfortable in the 31s. So, I either need to lose some weight or send these back. BUT, I love how these look!!! Here are a few others that you might like.
I tried to switch things up a little bit in this post. In this look, I am carrying my bright pink leather tote by Vera Bradley and wearing a pair of neutral flats. The suede loafers are still available but in limited sizes. So, I’ll try and link to some similar flats and handbags also.
To achieve the same look, I switched out the pink leather tote for a neutral suede satchel. Then, I added the pink back to the look by choosing the bright pink suede pumps. This is a way that you can interrupt a look without actually copying the look in every detail. Both items are older, so I’ll link to some available similar items.
So, what about you? Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? Are you going to wear something special? Do you wear pink or red on Valentine’s Day? Who is your Valentine? Will he buy you a Valentine’s Day gift? Lol!
I am probably wearing pink for Valentine’s Day this year. It seems like I always wear red, so I want to switch things up a bit. I was looking at some of my past posts, and I couldn’t help but snicker. If you want to look at one or two, then you can click here and here.

I love that outfit! I’ve always loved argyle and you look fabulous in this one w those super cute jeans and sexy suede heels! I love Valentine’s Day and always hope for a beau to pay attention to me and one to give Valentine’s to, but this year that won’t be happening. Enjoy your Valentine!
Charlcy, you are fabulous just the way you are. You don’t need a beau to tell you that!!!
My Valentine better be getting me a gift if he knows what is good for him! LOL
Love your blog but looking at your posts of Valentines Day past I am jealous. You look younger now than bak then
Awww, thanks, Diana. I will usually buy my own Valentine’s Day gift, that way I get what I want. But, it is a standing tradition for Joe to get me, my DIL and Emersyn all chocolate covered strawberries.
Love the outfit, and the hair do!
Thanks, Doris. I washed it. Hahahaha!
My birthday is on Valentine’s Day! Yay!
Have a very Happy Birthday!
Wow! 2 ladies in a row are Valentines!!! Happy early birthday to you, Diane!
I so enjoy your posts! I look forward to receiving your daily blog. Today was fun hearing about your granddaughter. I also enjoy the fashion info!
I want to brag about my husband. My birthday is on Valentine’s Day. I didn’t want to feel cheated so I ask for two separate gifts. And for the past several years he has done a bang up job. But this year I have run out of ideas or maybe stuck because we usually go some where and this year that is off the table. Any ideas ladies?
Happy Birthday! How about takeout from a favorite restaurant and music you both like followed by a romantic movie or a board game?
That sounds like a nice idea, Angie.
That is sweet of him to do. Happy early birthday. My SIL’s birthday is also on Valentine’s Day. Have him cook a meal for you, or treat you to a massage. Wink, wink!
Love the pink! Looks so cute on you:) Have a fantastic day in that outfit!
I am glad that you liked the look.
OMG! I can not believe you got my telepathic message! LOL! I was looking for argyle yesterday but could only find men’s or blue! Was not looking that hard though. That sweater is so cute and colorful. My mom knitted one for me in the 70s. Of course it is gone now but I have always loved it. Thank you for being so intuitive!
Jeni, didn’t you know that being telepathic was one of my superpowers. Joe might say that I was tele-pathetic instead. Lol!
Have loved your colorful posts this week!
Happy weekend!
I am glad that you have enjoyed this week’s posts.
I just bought this sweater NOW as yesterday’s sweater was sold out by last evening! I’m thinking this will be cute with a collared white shirt underneath for work.
Between a recent weight loss and your blog, I have never been happier or had more fun with fashion!
YEAH! I am so glad that you were able to grab this one. I am thrilled that you are enjoying the blog.
Love this look! have a great weekend!
I love all the pink in the posts this week! It is a wonderful color on you. And by the way, you look amazing! You look like you have really lost quite a bit of weight. What is your secret? The clothes look fabulous on you!
Thanks so much, Sarah! I am trying something new, and I’ll tell everyone about it once I decide that it is working.
I hope you have a great weekend also.
I have always loved argyle print! Never associated it with “old” or “frumpy”, but thought of it as a dressy look. However, these days, you see it in more casual looks. This sweater is really pretty and cheerful!
I think of it as classy too, but in a dated kind of way. The newer styles are more modern looking.
Your posts this week have made me smile! So cheerful!!! Loved the pink and it is so nice to see some color!! You have inspired me!!! I usually always wear neutrals but I’ll try to change it up a bit!!! Thanks for the great ideas !!! 💕
Chris, I am glad that I am influencing you to try color. Start small, maybe a scarf or small crossover handbag.
