How To Style Blazers for an Everyday Casual Look

This summer, at the Nordstrom sale, I used a stylist for the first time to pull clothing for me. For the record, I highly recommend doing this! Liz was great, but she said something that I thought was really interesting. When my niece tried on a blazer and was lamenting that she didn’t really go anywhere to wear one, Liz said, “Blazers are the new hoodie!” So, gone are the days of only wearing blazers to work. Today I’m going to show you how to style blazers for an everyday casual look. Get ready to see some hoodies, uh, blazers!

Blazers from The Gap

If I’m talking about casual blazers, I might as well mention a denim one! I actually like this A LOT, but I’d probably pair it with white jeans or a maxi skirt. This would be a great fall jacket and would look awesome with a colorful scarf.

You can’t go wrong with a plaid wool blazer. Pair it with jeans and booties, or like the model, some cool sneakers. This is a great choice for fall and would go with just about anything. I just bought a brown and blazer plaid blazer that is gorgeous, and it was half the price.

Blazers from Amazon

Okay, not sure I’d wear this with short shorts, but that’s mainly because I don’t have legs like the model. lol. BUT, I’d wear this with a denim skirt, or over a cute denim dress all day long. How cute would that be for an outdoor concert?! Love the notched collar, the wool blend fabric, and the price – just under $40 dollars.

Yes, you can wear a basic black blazer with jeans and look fabulous! Add a gold cuff and a cute purse, and you will look like a million dollars. If you’d wear a black jacket or sweater, you can wear a black blazer.

Love this with dark jeans and a good leather belt. When I say that a blazer can be worn as an everyday look, this is what I mean. This jacket comes in a ton of colors, too. Do you have a college football game to go to? Chances are, there’s a blazer in their team colors!

For those of you who like a double-breasted blazer, this tweed one would do nicely. Double-breasted doesn’t have to be formal! Push up the sleeves, throw on a pair of straight-leg jeans and some block heels, and hit the street.

I like this blazer so much that I own it in black, white, blue, green, and red. Yeah…I really love the style and material of this blazer!

Blazers from Talbots

Blazers don’t have to be boring. This plaid version from Talbots is anything but! Tip: When going with a more interesting color or fabric, go traditional in the silhouette!

I understand if you think “work” when you see the words “houndstooth blazer,” but it doesn’t have to be! This is a very casual shirt and jeans, and yet so stylish! This is slightly longer for those of you who prefer more coverage.

What do you think? What’s your go-to going to be this fall, a hoodie or a blazer?

The best items recently purchased from Amazon is Brio World train additions for my 4 yr old Grandson. He’s obsessed with trains, so I had to make sure he had all the necessary accessories to make his train tracks as big as his little heart desires! He absolutely loves it & has been playing with the Brio World Train nonstop.

  6. I love this idea. I’ve never been a fan of hoodies…. So can you show us some blazers paired with graphic t-shirts, please? They have been my go-to since I retired in June 2022! Love your style, Tania! Thanks for your hard work to bring us great fashion inspiration.

    1. I have a graphic t post in the works!

  7. Blazers make everything look more sophisticated, even jeans!

  8. Blazers! I started wearing them again last year, so glad I didn’t get rid of my double breastfed ones, lol! Gonna have to get the tweed blazer.

  9. I love a blazer. I wear my linen striped blazer with a white shirt or blouse and blue jeans. Dressed up but not fussy. I look for lined blazers so I can turn up the cuff, and wear a chunky bracelet. My shoes and bag change with the season. For color I tie a fun scarf on my bag. I am looking for a good black or navy blazer the fall and winter. Thank you for some possibilities.

  10. everytime I hear the word blazer I think massive 80’s shoulder pads. I just got a Tommy Hilfiger houndstooth blazer and I love it! It’s red, navy and white and I can wear it with so many things. Dress it up with a nice pair of dress pants or a pair of white jeans or keep it causal with my bluejeans. And it’s football size shoulder pads free!

Beautiful blazers – I am not worn blazers in several years. I am going to invest in a couple for fall.

  14. Karrie Knutson says:

How fun that Blazers are now considered for casual, fun, not strictly work attire.

  15. Blazers used to be my favorite. Since I spent over 20 years in banking they were a must back then. Not so much these days since the workplace is much more casual. But I’m so happy to see their return. They look amazing with jeans and over certain dresses.

    1. I’m glad that you enjoyed this post! Thanks for commenting, Pat! 🙂

I absolutely love a blazer with blue jeans! So glad they have come back in style!! I’ll be getting one of these blazers for this fall, for sure. Also, I love the blazer that you picked out to wear with the Cheetah shirt. That shirt has become my favorite shirt this summer and now I know how to wear it this fall. Thank you for all of your work so that it makes it easy for me to make some new clothing choices!! God Bless!!

  20. I love blazers. Cute styles and good ideas. I still have my denim blazer that’s close to 20 years old. It’s very basic. I intend to wear it more once the weather cools. If I really like a piece of clothing I don’t get rid of it.

  21. White tank or t-shirt, black or navy blazer, jeans…SO CHIC!

  22. Just wondering if the double breasted blazer you like so much runs true to your size medium, or did you size up? Thanks.

    1. Laura, anytime I’m buyin a double breasted blazer, I will also go with a slightly smaller size. I rarely button them, and I don’t want soooo much material hanging in the front.

  23. Love these blazers- May have to trade out some of my hoodies!

  24. What an interesting comment about blazers being the new hoodie. I like it.We all dress so much more casual today, but I like the idea about wearing a blazer instead. It just ups our appearance! these are some good choices. Your granddaughter looks so much older all dressed up.

  25. Laura Gray says:

Love, love, love blazers! I use to wear a lot of them and I’m so glad they are “back” in style!
Thank you for your wonderful post!!!

  26. I love blazers. When I was a teenager I used to take my dad’s sports coats and wear them with a t shirt and jeans. It was a little oversized but I thought I looked cool!!! lol I’m going to have to get the denim blazer from the gap! love all the looks. Thanks for the post.

  27. Oooh – this post hits on my personal “uniform”. I love that blazers have made an uptick in the trends!

  28. Gina Luebke says:

I’m loving these looks, but I never reach for my blazers. I need to try to wear them more this Fall. I also ordered a plaid one recently so maybe I will wear it more?
Thanks Tania for another great post!!

I love summer, but cooler weather makes wearing stylish blazers more fun. It adds so much to just a top and plain pants.

  30. I love blazers. They are so easy to throw on with almost anything that you are wearing. I have wore blazers and two piece blazer outfits since I started working when I was 16, I started out at a bank so we had to dress the part. Now that I am retired it is hard for me to get into the swing of wearing them because I have been wearing more leisure wear and not going any place, shut down of the world didn’t help. Everyone of these are gorgeous.

    1. I’m glad that you enjoyed this post, Dianne! Thank you for commenting! 🙂

  31. I absolutely love that Glen plaid Talbots blazer in blue. I also love the brown one you styled from Gap. Great price for that one. Love the jeans and blazer look.

  32. Very much enjoyed this post on blazers. I will be styling a few this fall.

  33. I have always been a cardigan fan but maybe this is the year to spread my wings and join the blazer team. I love the business casual blazer (because pockets!). I would love to know how to ensure you get credit for my purchases- is it only the color you select or any color? If I add it to my cart and come back later in a day or two to purchase- will you get credit? You have such great finds!

    1. Laura, thanks so much for thinking of me. I get credit when you click on my links and purchase from the store. It doesn’t matter if you end up purchasing the item I linked, or if you purchase something else. Since I sent you to the store, I get the credit.

Love the look of blazers. A return of an oldie but goodie

  38. Hope Matchniff says:

I really like the notched collar blazer. I work fully remote so aside from church, Bible study or Kroger run, I don’t have much need for them… but I love them. Be blessed.

  39. I love blazers and skirts in Fall and Winter I am happy they are in style. Love the post and the Bible verse!

  40. I really like the black blazer. Could it be worn with dark denim jeans too? Or would it be best to stick with a lighter denim?

    1. Judy, you can wear it with dark denim also.

  41. Since I retired and cleaned out the closet of all that stuff…..now I’m thinking of getting a blazer but I think I’ll go with one that has a good silhouette (just me personally, I don’t like the boxy boyfriend style with flare jeans). I have to agree it maybe the new go to jacket and it’ll be nice to be “pulled together” when I step out. There are some great ones out there and some good sales going on too.
