HOW TO MIX CLASSIC AND TRENDY CLOTHING
I wanted to add a bit of animal print to my outfit today, so this scarf was what I chose. But, before I tell you where the scarf came from, let me tell you another story that had Joe and I cracking up. Joe decided to check on our carbon monoxide detector to see if it was working or if it might need new batteries. He got it down, and then he pushed the test button to make sure that it worked. It must have been on its last leg with the battery, because as it started chirping as soon as he walked off.
Joe went in search of a 9V battery, and I was sitting by the fire. I looked over and noticed that my Yorkie, Lucy, was looking under the TV. Then, she would barely lift her leg as she moved to another spot. She was creeping around so slowly and looking under everything. I yelled for Joe to come and watch her, and we figured out that she thought the chirping was a mouse. Yorkies were bred as “raters,” and she must have some of that bred into her. Even after he replaced the battery, it took her another 20-30 minutes before she finally gave up and settled down. Lucy may not be much of a threat to a burglar, but I can already tell that she will not rest if there is ever a mouse in this house.
My daughter’s cat, Tom, however, was not a bit concerned. Either he is smart enough to have known the difference between a chirping detector, or he couldn’t care less if there was a mouse in the house. I think that he might be too well fed. Lol!
Some of you are not fans of black/gray/tan/brown being worn together. I happen to love wearing blacks and browns together, and I think that it gives off a sophisticated look. This 100% cashmere sweater is so soft, and it is a classic staple for any wardrobe. The beautiful gray neutral will go with almost anything, and the traditional style of the crewneck pullover will never go out of style. Here is the post where I wore this with pearls and black pants for a more classic look.
When I ordered this sweater back in December, I decided that I wanted to make sure that it was lose fitting so that I could wear it with a button-up shirt. I ordered a size large in the sweater, and it fits me perfectly. The sweater is available in three classic colors, so you can’t go wrong with whatever color you choose. Here is the link to the sweater, and it can be yours for under $50.00!!! BTW, if you would like to get your husband a sweater to match you for a photo, or maybe Valentine’s date night, then here is a link for you.
I have had this leopard print scarf for a couple of years. I can’t believe that it is still in the stores, and it is only 25.00! This scarf is gigantic, and it is perfect for those who want a tiny bit of leopard, but who doesn’t want to wear it from head to toe. LOL!
I am wearing my Avi silver hoop earrings and my Logan cuff and the Chariot bangle bracelets. The bracelets look like David Yurman bracelets, but hundreds of dollars cheaper.
I added the darker jeans to the outfit to help the light gray sweater stand out more. Deeper colored jeans usually look dressier than light-colored ones. These jeans are the Diana from Kut From The Kloth, and I have had this pair for a couple of years. We all have a pair of jeans that we reach for all the time, and this is my pair. I am wearing my usual size 10, and these jeans fit me perfectly. They are on sale for 40% off, so click here if you want a great pair of jeans at a great cost.
This is not the pair of boots that I meant to wear with this outfit. I looked everywhere for my pointy-toe booties by Sam Edleman, but I couldn’t find them. I finally gave up and grabbed this pair instead. This pair is a darker brown than I wanted to wear, but this is a perfect example of how we have to wear what we have. If you are like me, you don’t have a Nordstrom in your backyard, so you have to make do with what you have. Don’t get me wrong, I love these cuffed boots, but I wanted the wear the other pair since they were lighter in color. Here is the link to the boots in this post, and here is the link to the booties that I wanted to wear.
Another classic piece in this outfit is my white button-up shirt. If you don’t own a button-up shirt, then you need to take my advice and grab one. They are fantastic to wear all year round, and they are one of the most versatile items in your closet. You can wear them under a sweater or cardigan, with a blazer for a professional look, tied in the front for a casual look, or tucked into jeans, shorts, or a skirt. I promise that you will get your monies worth from this item. Try to buy one that you can’t see through. If you are afraid that it is too thin, then be sure to add a beige/nude camisole. Don’t wear white; it will stick out like a sore thumb, always choose nude for your undergarments so that they blend in with your skin.

Cute outfit and the added touch of red on the boots is awesome! I’m a white shirt fan myself. They’re great for layering! These days I’m a little warm but I still like the look of layers. My solution was to turn an older white shirt into a dickie (remember those?!) It still looks great under sweaters and no one has a clue that there’s only half a shirt under my sweater! LOL! 🙂
I have always loved light grey with medium brown. I dress in a light grey column and add a jacket that says authenic Indian cotton on the label. It’s a beautiful cotton fabric with a buckskin color but in cotton. I love this outfit with my brown boots.
Honestly…I’m giggling about your Lucy! So cute. Love the outfit.
This is such a great look and although I don’t usually wear leopard a leopard scarf is one animal print item I do own. Loving how you added the white button down under the cashmere sweater! And the dark red boots look gorgeous. I really love these colors together!
Both my cats go crazy when one of the detectors starts chirping.
Hi Tania, I fell in love with the pinkish teddy bear coat from Target you wore a few weeks ago. I looked online and found my size in a store about 45 minutes away, I live in a very rural area too! I bought it on clearance for $22 🙂
I actually really like those boots with this outfit so I am glad you couldn’t find your other ones, lol.

Great outfit!! Any suggestions on where to get a nice leopard scarf that is not quite that large??
I like your fashions and I enjoy your stories. Your funny stories set you apart from other bloggers. Thank you.
Tania, I love the story about your Yorkie. I have one as well and we did have a mouse in our house a couple of months ago. We couldn’t figure out why she was acting so odd but I finally saw some ‘evidence’ of the problem. She actually ended up catching it before I could buy a trap! Needless to say, it was quite a wild adventure for all of us. Now, every time I start moving things around, even to dust, she starts looking for a mouse. LOL
I didn’t think I would like the mix of colors but you wear it well! I’m ordering the scarf for sure!
Love this outfit and actually love those boots with it too!! Poor Lucy….she sure gave us a laugh at her expense!! Haha!
I love that you present various price points. From Nordstrum’s to Walmart….we can look fabulous!
Bonita, I realize that my price point, and others price point, might be completely different. So, I try to pull from a wide range. Plus, as my mother says, “I never met a store that I didn’t like.” Lol!
I never would have thought to mix these pieces together but they look really good on you.
It is about trying new things, Janet. Some of my ideas work, and some don’t.
Hi Tania, I love this look on you!! Very classic and cute. Thank you for your great fashion tips! You are beautiful ❣️ have a great Monday ?
Tracey, this is a great way for me to start my day. Thank you for your wonderful comment.
Haha, one of my cats couldn t care less either. They are to spoiler. But hey, thats what pets are for!
Nancy, cats are especially funny creatures. They are NOT like dogs, don’t even bother to call for them. Lol!
