How to Give Yourself an At Home Pedicure
I have been sharing a lot of sandal recommendations in preparation for spring and summer, but let’s be honest… first, we need to bring those feet out of winter hibernation with a great pedicure! Before you rush off to your favorite nail salon and spend a ton of money, let me teach you how to give yourself an at home pedicure that will have your feet looking and feeling wonderful. Years ago, I learned that if I save my money on things like pedicures that I can spend more money on things like clothes, haha! It’s still fun to treat yourself to a day at the salon from time to time, but today I’m teaching you how to get a relaxing foot makeover in the comfort of your own home.
Once your feet are all painted and ready to show off, you’ll need some new shoes! Check out these posts for some ones I’m currently loving!:

Below, you’ll find my favorite tools, tips, and tricks for a shockingly easy and relaxing at home pedicure so you can rock your new sandals with cute toenails, soft heels, and tons of confidence!
Tools for Giving Yourself an At Home Pedicure
1. Baby Feet Foot Peel
The first step in a pedicure is to prep your feet by removing all of the yucky dead skin. A foot peel is an easy way to complete this task since it takes minimal effort and zero elbow grease unlike scrubbing and scrubbing with a pumice stone. Go check out the crazy before and after pictures in the reviews (warning: skip the reviews if feet gross you out, haha!). I was shocked at how well this foot peel works at removing dead skin and callouses, but you may want to do it a week or so before your pedicure since the peeling takes a few days to finish.
2. Nail Polish Remover
You also need to start with a fresh slate on your toes so make sure to have a good nail polish remover on hand to get rid of any old polish. This is also essential to use before painting your toes so you can make sure there is no lotion or oils on your nails that will prevent your polish from sticking.
3. Pedi in a Box: Sea Salt Scrub, Sugar Scrub, Mud Mask, and Massage Butter
Set the mood for a relaxing evening of self care by lighting some candles and playing your favorite music, and then step into a tub of hot water paired with this sea salt soak. After your toes have soaked for 5-10 minutes, gently exfoliate your feet and legs with the sugar scrub from this pedi in a box kit and then apply the mud mask for 3-5 minutes. Finish with the massage butter. This four pack is under $18 and comes in several different scents like lavender, mango, fresh, and eucalyptus.
4. Pedi Perfect Electric Foot File
Since we are learning how to do an at home pedicure, we can’t skip talking about this tool. This electric foot file is under $20, and worth every penny. It works to smooth feet and remove your rough or calloused skin. You can use it on dry and wet skin.
5. Electric Nail File Set
This manicure and pedicure set makes self-care easy! You can file, shape, and buff your nails just like they would at the salon with this electric nail file set. It’s great for removing corns, smoothing callouses, and removing extra cuticles.
6. Professional Pedicure Set
While all of the electric tools are great, there’s nothing like having an actual pedicure set at your disposal. This one has nail clippers, nail files, toe separators, cuticle trimmers, a nail brush, and so much more.
7. Cuticle Oil
No matter how smooth your heels are and what color polish you choose, your pedicure won’t look professional if your cuticles are dry and neglected. A great cuticle oil is essential. I apply one every night so my nails and cuticles can rehydrate while I sleep.
8. Gel Toe Separator
We’ve all seen the inexpensive toe separators like the ones the salons use. They do the job of keeping your toes from touching while applying polish, but they’re flimsy and do not last for multiple uses. If you do your toes at home often, you need a great high-quality toe separator that you can use again and again for all of your at home pedicures.
9. OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
Once your feet and nails are prepared, it’s time to add a base coat. A good quality base coat allows your polish to go on smoothly and protects your nails from being stained if you choose a bold polish color.
10. Nail Polish Bottle Holder
I hate trying to hold the nail polish bottle and the applicator while trying to paint my nails and toenails. This tool gives you an extra hand by holding the nail polish bottle for you!

Boy, do I need this post!! I had a much needed pedicure last week and I vowed to keep it up. I have a similar foot bath that is collapsible and has a remote to control the heat and bubbles. I love it!! To sit for half an hour with a cup of coffee and a good book is heaven to me. And my tootsies love it too!
exfoliation foot peel is priced $19.99 on your site; however on amazon site, it’s priced $25.00
Julie, the prices change from day to day, and I never know when that will be.
I love OPI nail polish for their cute and quirky colors. Last pedicure I chose Dutch Tulips.
Funny story-at the start of Covid I was afraid to venture out to get a pedicure so tried to do my own. Took me three days to do what they do in an hour. They really earn their money!!
You shared some great tools, including several that I am going to order. Thanks so much! In years past I have gotten very lazy in regards to polishing my toe nails. Hopefully, once the neat tools arrive, I will not mind spending the time to help my feet look prettier. All year long I use Tree Hut body scrub on my feet while in the shower, then after drying off, I apply Aquaphor on my feet, then put on soft socks, which I wear at least 3 hrs., while the Aquaphor absorbs into my skin. Doing this keeps my feet smooth year round.
I love OPI strawberry margarita on my toes. I do have them painted as I don’t do a great job but I take care of my own feet. Lots of lotion, from head to toe, every day is the secret.
Thanks for all of these great ideas.
LOVE this post! I’m a Florida girl & I LIVE in sandals/flip flops/open toe all shoes. These r great items! Colors I’m loving on my toes right now r OPI Got the Blues for Red & (I keep changing it up!) Olive and June HD (it’s white & this is my favorite-it looks great with tanned legs & feet).
Love all these, especially the nail polish holder. Genius! I am loving whitish colors or very pale pinks right now. I usually go for more vibrant colors in the spring and summer but I think these pale colors will look better as I tan!
I have the pedicure platform and love it. I use a pair of pedicure flip flops from Amazon that have toe separators built in. My favorite summertime color is Cajun Shrimp; the rest of the year I use My Address is Hollywood(bothOPI). Great post!!!!!
I love Cajun shrimp too! it’s so perfect for summer.
I will definitely have to get a gep separator — thanks for the tips!
It’s so funny that you did this post. I have often thought to myself, “Wow, she must spend a fortune on pedicures because her toes always look so perfect!” Thanks for sharing your secrets. 🙂
I had no idea that a gel toe separator existed. I’ll have to get these, as I do my own pedicures at home 95% of the time. My color choice depends on my mood – sometimes I match my manicure (also done almost exclusively at home) and sometimes I choose a complementary color!
I need all of these supplies!! I normally go for Hot Pink or Red for polish.
Great tools!
This post was so good ❤️ especially the “gel” toe Separator! Being a nurse and on my feet sometimes up to 12 hours a day this was a much-needed post for me🙏
yes, I give myself pedicures at home. I prefer a light pink or a French for my toes. Happy vacation <3
