Comfortable Shoes You Need for a Beach Vacation
I know many of my readers head somewhere tropical this time of year to soak up a little sunshine while they visit their favorite resort, take a cruise, or sit by the beach. I have a beach trip on the brain myself! Since stores are mainly still selling boots this time of year, it can be a little difficult to find the proper shoes to pack on a beach vacation. I thought it would be helpful to share some of the styles you can always find in my suitcase when I’m heading somewhere warmer, as well as some of my current beach-approved favorite pairs.
Whether you’re taking a trip somewhere warmer to escape the winter weather or preparing your wardrobe for spring, this post has all the warm-weather shoes you need.
Flip Flops
Flip flops are the ultimate shoe to wear to the pool and beach, and you can’t convince me otherwise! Nothing is better on a hot sunny day than a pair of flip-flops. They let my tootsies breathe, and they come in a wide variety of styles.
- I usually pack a simple pair (like these) to wear to the beach because they are so quick to slip on and off, can be rinsed off easily to remove sand before going back into your resort or beach condo, and dry quickly.
- I make sure to bring a pair with good arch support and traction to keep my feet happy, especially if I may end up doing a lot of walking.
- I love this wedged pair with a cushioned flatbed and this braided pair from Vionic.
Dressy Sandal
I’m sure all of you have a few pairs of casual sandals. However, if I’m heading to a nicer lunch or out to eat dinner, then I am reaching for my dressy sandals! These sandals look a little nicer and can be worn with dress pants or dresses.
- These metallic Sam Edelman cutout sandals or these Tory Burch slides would look so cute with shorts, a sundress, or a maxi dress.
- If you’re looking for a comfortable flat with a little more embellishments, you’ll love this pair from Amazon.
- Chunky braided straps like these had a big moment last year, and I think they’re going to stick around for 2023.
Slides
Slides are a great blend of style and comfort. I love packing a pair to throw on for a casual lunch or a day shopping at local boutiques. Plus, they are so convenient to slip your foot in and head out the door.
- These rubber slides would be great for taking to the pool or beach because they can be rinsed off easily!
- I’m loving the big buckle on these!
- This slide/wedge combo proves that comfort and style can co-exist.
Espadrilles
I think espadrilles are my favorite summer shoe! This timeless and versatile Spanish style of shoe is everything you need to complete your vacation shoe haul. I love pairing them with my skirts and dresses, but they look equally cute with shorts and pants.
- I love the leather and canvas combination on this open toe pair.
- This block heel style is going to be so cute all summer long!
- Get some extra traction with this pair of cushioned flip-flop espadrilles that have an added sawtooth sole.

I’m a beach lover so I really loved your post with all the colorful jewelry and sandals. My favorite items for summer and the beach
Vionics s are extremely comfortable and worth the money!!
We winter in Fl, and I usually wear Vionic sandals. No flat flip flops for me anymore, they make my back pain excruciating. Skechers backless shoes for Flea Market, shopping etc, and that about does it for me. I guess we don’t dress up!!
Please don’t ever stop with the Joe stories, I think we can all relate 😁
I’m only dreaming of a beach vacation. Don’t actually have one planned – bummer 🙂
What a great variety of sandals. As a shoe fan, I love seeing new ideas for the summer. Thank you!
I love the Joe stories, he does some of the same thing my husbands does.
I like the embellished ones from Amazon that you linked to. But my favorite are Clarks Breeze Sea flip flops. I love them. They are the most comfortable flip flops I have ever worn. They last forever. I have a pair I got over 5 years ago and they are just as comfortable and look just as good as new. I just purchased a new pair in teal.
The beach is my absolute favorite vacation. Love all of the sandal ideas you’ve given. Have a great trip to Miami. Safe travels!!
Tell Joe we love the Joe stories, and he is wonderful. He is so much like our husbands 😉
Love, love, love the espadrilles!
Love those braided sandals. My problem is I wear wide width shoes and not too many of the cute styles come in wide!!
I love a cute pair of flip flops for a casual look at the beach but for dressier look I always go with espadrilles.
I need help in the swimsuit dept if you have any.
Where are the earrings that you are wearing in the one shoulder dress from please?
Thank you so much!
You should give the Olukai brand a try. They’re a favorite brand of mine for sandals and shoes that can get wet. They all have great arch support, which I need, and they are all water resistant if not waterproof. They aren’t cheap but they last forever!
I love the beach and you have rounded up some great sandal choices.
So many fun sandals! I want them all! Please don’t stop your Joe stories. They always make me smile.
Jo-Lynne Shane is also heading to FL next month. I wonder if the two of you are heading to the same city. I pretty well live in Birkenstock’s all year, but I do like to have other sandal options in my closet. I just ordered a pair of the Shibever women sandals from Amazon and have my fingers crossed that they will fit my paper thin and narrow feet. Tell Joe that you only share stories about him because you love him and want us to get to know him better.
We are actually meeting up together in Miami
This is one of the best Joe stories ever!! I have a pair of camel colored leather slides/flats that I take on beach vacations and a pair of Clarks flip flops for the pool/beach. Then it depends on how much room I have left in my carry-on…
Thanks for the shoe tips! My feet are so finicky these days.
Your Joe stories are hilarious! We too have a huge window over our bathtub that overlooks the street view (why???). First order of business when moving in was to cover with a large blanket and order shades!
Love all the shoes options! I’ve put a couple in my cart.
I love your ‘Joe stories’ so hopefully he will agree to let you continue to share as they really make my morning! I can relate to all of them.
I appreciate your information on footwear as I have Morten’s Neuroma and need all the help I can get. So far I have bought the same runners as your sister uses, Aetrex shoes and also their beach flip flops which are excellent for support. I also have FitFlops and love them for when I need a wedge heel.
LOL oh Tania, you are so funny! The stories of Joe cracks me up! Love the shoe advice, I’m a flip flop and sandals gal~
I love your Joe stories! Keep them coming!!
Hi Tania,
First off, love that Chiffon off the shoulder dress on you. It is beautiful.
I need to have arch support in my flip flops so I usually go for the Vionic brand. I recently found the OOFOS to be great too and you can easily wash them off.
One can NEVER have enough shoes!!!
Ahhh, now you’ve got me thinking of the beach! I have a pair of Reef sandals that look very similar to the Vionic slide wedges. I love them, so comfortable, so I’m betting the Vionic ones would be great too.
Comfy shoes are a must on vacation! Love all the choices you gave us. Thanks for all you do, and yes, we love the Joe stories!
I love the braided heels from Target. Are they comfortable?
Surprising they are!
Love this post! Living in Arizona we start warming up in March. So summer fashion is always right around the corner for me. So for me capris and T-shirts are my summer wear. Would love to see some of your ideas for transitioning to summer.
Thanks for all you do to help us stay fashionable!
Great shoes and love the Joe stories. Keep them coming! 🙂
This post is just a little late for me, I am relaxing on the beach, as I read your post! Definitely, some great options for a tropical vacation!
Diane
Ahhh, I’m so jealous! 😊
Just imagine not being able to wear flip flops, sandals, heels, and flats.
That is my situation, I have to use orthotics in my shoes. I always have to wear sneakers, and not necessarily cute ones. I usually wear ECCO sneakers. I do not wear dresses or skirts.
Crocs & Skechers are 2 of my favorite brands of sandals. They are light weight, not expensive, comfy & very durable. I’ve never wore a pair of either brand that wasn’t comfortable.
I love your Joe stories. My hubby was just like Joe until he had his stroke. I miss that. So please don’t stop-I get such a kick out of them!
Love the sandals!
Love your Joe stories!
all great choices!!
Best Joe story yet!!!!
Thanks for sharing the different types of sandals.
I really miss your comments about how the sizing is .
Nice variety of sandals and flip flops. I may have to finally try Vionic!
Great blog!! Well, LOL I do love shoes!!! Just returned from Hawaii where I had to limit shoes. Took only 3 pair 😳. And I have high arches, so I have to have very supportive shoes. But they’ve got to be cute too. Wore my ASICS on the plane (needed these for hikes), my Taos Genie toe wrap blingy sandals for dinner and keen water sandals for beach and kayaking. My girlfriend took a pair of Fitflop sandals (she loves that brand) and Berkenstocks. I love several of the brands you showed today. Some of my favorites are Vionic, Taos, soffit EuroSoft, and L’Artist when I want really unique shoes!! A girls gotta have her shoes!!! 👟🥿👠🥾👢👡🩴. Thank you Tania!!!
Wow these are all so cute! I haven’t been to the beach in forever. Hope that you have a wonderful time in Miami!! Have a great Thursday!
Love your family stories too! Another inexpensive flip flop to try is Archies. Good arch support…
Love all of these choices but love thinking about the beach even more 😊😊 sounds like the perfect time to go and Joe is a hoot!
Sounds like something my husband would do !
Great ideas
Oofos are my go-to flip flop. They are so comfy and provide great support!
I used to get plantar fasciitis way too often and a girl from the Dillard’s shoe department recommended Vionic sandals. I pretty much live in them during the warm weather seasons now and don’t have any foot pain anymore.
Love this post. I’m trying to locate a beach cover up that can be worn into a coffee shop or gift shop while walking the beach. I’d love to see a post on that. Enjoy your trip to Miami
LOL I have done the same thing turning lights on😂
Great article, and good timing as I just cleaned out my dressy summer sandal collection. The casual flat sandal is the style that takes a beating in my collection, as when I find a comfortable one, it’s worn 5 out of 7 days. Have a blessed week, and I really enjoy the Joe stories, only men can do these things.
I only want to wear comfortable shoes! Thank you for the options! BTW, I love the Joe stories!
Some great ideas!
I bought the crocs a couple of weeks ago before going on a cruise they were so comfortable. Love all of these.
I have to be honest, your family stories were what drew me to follow you whenever you started your blog 5 or 6 years ago. I love your Joe stories.
Carla, when I first started blogging, I didn’t know what to talk about. So, I talked about what was near and dear to me…my family.
