I’ve been doing the Now and Later series, and I just ended that yesterday. Since the weather will soon be turning cooler, layering will be the key to creating outfits. You can still wear most of your wardrobe during this time, but adding a completer piece makes your outfit look polished and finished.

If you’ve never heard the term “completer piece,” then let me give you a simple explanation. A completer piece can be many different things, but mostly they are cardigans, blazers, vests, and jackets like a moto, denim, bomber, or utility jacket. You might also think of jewelry, belts, handbags, and shoes as completer pieces.

Today’s outfit is simple since it is a striped tank top and a pair of straight-leg jeans. It is a casual look that all of us have in our closets. I love the colors of this top, the pink, blue, and white are very complementary, and the thin line of yellow is a surprise. The straps are nice and wide, so your bra strap shouldn’t show with this top. I am wearing a medium top, and it is plenty roomy. The top also comes in several other colors, so be sure to check it out.

This look is fine for an everyday look, but there are times when you need extra warmth and to look more polished. I think that the simple addition of this navy cinch waist knit jacket really changed the look of this outfit. The outfit now looks more polished, more put-together, and more complete.

A shawl collar polishes this cotton-blend jersey jacket with an interior drawstring in the waist to keep it casual and flattering. The jacket is unlined, so it is very lightweight, which is perfect for early fall.

Here is the view from the back so that you can get an idea of the length of the jacket. I am wearing a medium since the website recommended sizing down. Normally, I will order large in jackets to wear a button-up shirt or a thin sweater underneath them.

Here is a similar jacket that I wore in an earlier post, and like today’s look, the jacket is a perfect completer piece.

I love the NYDJ Marilyn Straight-Leg jeans! I bought this same pair in a lighter color last year, and I wanted the darker colored pair. If you have not tried NYDJ before, you are in for a treat! They have just enough stretch to them, and the fit is spot on. NYDJ stands for, Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, so these are made for a woman.

I have found that I need to size down in this brand, so I am wearing a size 8 instead of my usual size 10.

I am wearing a pair of driving loafers in a beautiful English Toffee color. The octangle two-tone buckle is a unique detail that helps these loafers to stand out from the pack. The rectangle buckle is an example of how brands have started to make flats/loafers more stylish and fashionable. If you have complained that flats lack style, this pair is the cure for what ails you.

The loafers also are available in black and pearl, and all three of the colors are some that you will get a lot of wear from. I am wearing my usual size 9, so I think the loafers run true to size.

The other completer pieces that I added to today’s look are a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses and a braided brown belt. These are small items that create a finished look. They make the outfit look like you put some thought into creating the look.

Love this jacket and I never would have thought to wear a cinch waist – lost my waist many pregnancies ago. This definitely takes an outfit up a notch. Thank you

  2. Oh my goodness! I instantly felt like I was melting when I saw this outfit! Very cute! But … it’s been high 80s-low 90s with heat index in low 100s! This is OHIO!!! SO thankful for the man who invented air conditioning!!! Love the outfit. Looks very comfy!

  3. That’s why I look forward to fall and winter. I love my third layers and gives me a chance to experiment more. We don’t get many chances for wearing coats here on the coast but I’ll wear boots all fall and winter. Love boots.💕

It is amazing how adding a completer piece can amp up an outfit. I can’t wait until the cooler temps arrive down here in south central Georgia, so that I can comfortably wear a jacket or sweater. That is a very pretty tank top. I also love wearing Wit & Wisdom jeans since most of them help hold in my tummy, for a more flattering look. Make it a great day!

  5. I like sleeveless tops with pants actually ankle pants. Always plan a jacket or sweater too. Just ordered the olive green jacket from earlier post you showed today.

  6. I LOVE that navy jacket, perfect! I often wear sheer, floral kimonos in the summer to complete my outfit. They so easily pull together and complete outfits. Thanks for your always fun looks!

    1. Sheer kimonos work great for the summer as a completer piece. But, for fall we need something a little heavier.

  7. This outfit would be great to wear to work on casual Fridays. I like the combination of colors in the tank top.

    1. Yes! This would be great for casual Friday!
