It’s Leap Year

50 Is Not Old | Leap YearIt only comes around every 4 years. Leap year is today, February 29th, 2016. Children born on February 29th are called “leapers or leaplings.” I always wondered what day you would celebrate your birthday if you were born on leap year. Those who are born at Christmas time think they have it bad, at least your day still comes around every year. Hahaha February 29th is also known as Bachelors Day, a day when women can propose to a man. If the man says no, he is supposed to give a gift, or pay a fine. He also better know how to run really fast, and learn how to duck. Just saying….

Take The Time To Be Thankful

50 Is Not Old | Take The Time To Be ThankfulThis is the day that the Lord has made. That is one of my favorite songs. Anytime I am feeling a little down, or lost, this song always comes to mind. It never fails to ground me, to remind me that I am a small little speck in the big picture of life. But, THIS is the day. The Lord made this day. I am blessed.

In a sermon one day, our preacher posed this question. What if you only had what you thanked the Lord for? In other words, in your prayers, what do you thank the Lord for? Family, health, and friends are things we all are thankful for. But what about all the everyday things? In November, we are reminded to be thankful, but we need to take the time each day to give thanks.

When I started this blog 5 months ago, I had no idea what I was doing. Honestly, I am still not sure how, or why, I have been blessed to have so many readers. Many of you have said that I am an inspiration. The only thing I can figure, is the Lord has a plan. I know I have no idea what that plan might be, but I am along for the ride.

I am thankful for each of you. I am thankful.

You Snooze, You Lose

50 Is Not Old | You Snooze, You LoseI know it is Saturday, but if you snooze, you lose. I am talking about the clearance sales that are going on everywhere. The stores are busy gearing up for spring, so all the merchandise they bought too much of, has to go. Now is the perfect time to buy some items at a hefty discount.

Fashion Is Ageless/Sister Project Act

50 Is Not Old | Fashion Is AgelessFashion is ageless, and it has no boundaries. If you like something, wearing it is up to you. However, there has always been a notion that after you reach a “certain” age, you should abide by the rules. There are some styles that I personally don’t like, or won’t wear. But, it is not because of my age, it is because of my body type. This plays right into my mantra, “Age Is An Attitude, Keep Yours Young.”

What Do You Call A Grandmother

50 Is Not Old | GrandmotherI have 4 wonderful grandchildren! Three of them live in Tennessee, and one lives right next door. I remember the debate I had with the Tennessee gang’s other grandmother, about what we wanted to be called when the first grandchild was born. We finally decided on Nana. She would be Nana Teresa, and I would be Nana Tania. Pretty original, huh?  hahaha50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

When I was a child, most grandmothers were called “granny”, or at least everyone I knew was. I had a granny Lewis and a granny Meadows, once again we were original. Lol! I never even thought anything about the name, it was just what we called them.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

Granny is what my children called my mother, but they called Joe’s mother, maw maw. I think that was what the children in his family were used to calling their grandmothers. Nowadays, you don’t hear those terms very often. Instead, there are all kind of fancy names for grandmothers.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

Kris Jenner (Kim Kardashian’s mother) wants to be called Lovey. That is actually a cute name, and not one that you would normally associate with being a grandmother. I know several MiMi’s, a couple of Gee’s, and lot’s of Nana’s. My sister’s daughter calls our mom, “M”. She calls her other grandmother the same thing, so to keep them separate, my mother is “M on the mountain”, and the other grandmother is “M at the beach.” Haha  It just so happens that both of the grandmother’s names start with M.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

My youngest son tried to tease me when his little girl was born. He would call me all kind of names that he thought sounded “old.” I told him that he did not bother me at all. I didn’t care what she called me, just as long as she called. So, eventually he gave up and started calling me nana, since that was what the other grandchildren called me.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

One day I was babysitting for the little monkey, and I was feeding her. She was sitting in the high chair at my back patio door. I stepped out the door to let Beckley (my Yorkie) back in, and she thought I was leaving. She screamed, “Nee Nee!” From that day on, I was NeeNee. Well, occasionally it is NaaNaa, when she has her southern drawl going. It is funny how they will decide what your name will be.50 Is Not Old | Grandmother

Now, let’s talk fashion. I am trying not to wear my spring outfits yet, but this vest was just staring at me this morning and begging to be worn. So I compromised and wore it with a pair of faux suede leggings. Spring is a strange time of the year, weather wise. You had better be prepared for temperature fluctuations. Here is Virginia, it can rain, sleet, snow, and the sun shine all in one day. The temperatures have been known to change 30 to 40 degrees all in a single day. So in the spring, I like to wear long sleeves, or a jacket. I am cold natured, and am always cold. If I get hot, I can always shed a layer. This long sleeve paisley vest is one that I bought a couple years age at DressBarn. I had already paid for my purchases, but spotted this as I left the store. Of course I turned around and bought the vest and the matching long sleeve t-shirt. You can wear the vest tied or let the tails hang down in front. Here and here are a couple cute vests. And here is a basic long sleeve t-shirt in ALL kinds of colors. If you can’t find a color you like there, then you are too picky. Haha  The faux suede leggings were from Cato’, but they are no longer available. They are super soft and I like the feel of them. I found myself rubbing my leg all throughout the day. Lol! Here is a pair that looks identical to mine. I wore these before, and here is how I styled them. Which way do you like best?

Now for the jewelry. Everything except my Michael Kors watch, is by Chloe & Isabel. I was first introduced to Chloe & Isabel this past fall when I won a giveaway. I won an Atlas three-row necklace, and I have worn that thing ever since. I absolutely love it! So, the other day, I decided to sign up as a stylist. I have never done this kind of thing before, so that is saying something about how I feel about this jewelry. Anyway, the necklace, the matching earrings, and the multi-wrap bracelet, I have on came in my introductory kit. Their jewelry is backed by a life-time guarantee, hypoallergenic, lead safe, and nickel-free. If you are ever interested in having an online trunk party, let me know and I can set you up. That is the easiest way to earn FREE merchandise. I like free!!!50 Is Not Old | GrandmotherThis cobalt blue tote was one that I bought at either TJ Maxx, Ross’s or Marshall’s. I forget where it came from. Hahaha I am going with the reason that I forgot, is that I have a lot of clothing, and not that my memory is bad. Here is a similar one that is REVERSIBLE.

Are you a grandmother? What are you called? Does being called “Granny” make you any older? If you are a grandmother, then what is your name?

Fashion Shoot With Friends, Part 2

50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2Sandy is not shy! Just in case you hadn’t already noticed. Haha  She always has a smile on her face, and is very outgoing. When she came to the house on Saturday, she thought we had decided to wait and take pictures on Sunday. But, since the forecast was for torrential downpours on Sunday, we went ahead and set up the fashion shoot.50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2After we went took pictures, we went shopping about 30 miles from my house. We stopped at our first store and bought a ton of things. Sandy and Bertha had already paid and gone to the car, while I was paying for my items. As I was paying I noticed a beautiful necklace laying on the counter and asked if it was for sale. She said no, that she had just bought it at a craft fair in town that morning. CRAFT FAIR!!! I paid quickly and told the gurls. It took us all of 5 minutes to get there and go inside. Did I mention it was at the police station? Sandy decides to get out her phone and “check us in” on FaceBook. The caption read: Sandy, Bertha, and Tania all checked in to the Police Dept. It didn’t take long for all our phones to start pinging. Why, where, what did you do, do you need bail? At least they were offering bail. Haha
50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2I told you Sandy is always smiling and laughing. She has a laugh like no one else’s. When we travel together, if we get separated in a store, you just have to stand still and listen. You will be able to find her in no time. She almost never has a picture made without a huge smile:)50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2You might have noticed that she bought a pink leather Vera handbag too. Hers is actually a size larger than mine. This thing is Le Grande size! Haha  Here are two purses that are similar, and similar.  Today my sister-in-law came to town and we went to the QVC store. She bought a hot pink patent leather Dooney & Bourke that was adorable. Pink is such a great color for spring and summer. Here is a similar pink patent leather purse for only 59.00. 50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2These leggings are cute and colorful. I think she got them at Cato’s, but they are not on their site, so I can’t be sure. Here is a similar pair of leggings.  I know she bought the necklace at Cato’s quite a while age. It goes with just about everything.  Here are a couple different seed-bead necklaces. Mulit seed-bead necklace in green, a short one in blues, and a fringe style multi-colored one.50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2The cobalt blue top is from Cato’s, and it is actually still on their site. I love this color, and it will be a top you will be able to wear all spring. Here is the link to the top. She is also wearing her By The Book bracelets. Sandy’s mother is our sunday school teacher, and this sunday as she was going over our lesson, she mentioned the verse Jeremiah 29:11. That is one of my favorite verses from the Bible, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  I happened to have a bracelet in my purse with that verse on it. I had ordered it before Christmas, but it had just gotten in, so I gave it to her as a small thank you for being our teacher.
50 Is Not Old | Fashion Shoot Pt. 2Did I mention Sandy is not shy??? We have such a blast when we travel. We laugh and act crazy all the time. Bertha has even been know to sing, “Yippee Ki Yay, Yippee Ki Yo”, at the top of her lungs. Of course this might be after a glass or two of wine. LOL!  I am truly blessed to have these two as my besties.

I love that Bertha and Sandy have joined me on my blog journey. I intend to have them appear on a regular basis. Thank you gurls, for welcoming them with open arms!

A Fashion Shoot With Friends

50 Is Not Old | BerthaWhen you have a fashion shoot with friends, you can bet things will get crazy in no time flat. On Saturday I invited Bertha and Sandy down to take some pictures of their outfits, and then it was off to do a little shopping. I set up the tripod with the camera and explained to them what the process was. I then set the timer and turned my back so that they wouldn’t feel self-conscious. I really had no idea how the pictures turned out till I looked at them on Sunday to start the cropping and editing. Bertha’s parting words on Saturday were, “Don’t put any picture where I look terrible on the site.” Why would she ever think I would do that???
50 Is Not Old | BerthaFirst up will be Bertha. Mainly because she told me where all her clothing comes from. I will showcase Sandy in an upcoming post. Bertha looks thrilled to be here. Haha  Okay let’s address the hair. This is totally Bertha! She and I both go to the same hairstylist, can you tell? It never fails when we go somewhere, that she will have 3 or 4 people tell her how much they love her hair. Even customers who come into the lumber company will compliment her. Obviously there are a lot of brave/crazy/color loving people out there.50 Is Not Old | BerthaThe pink furry vest, black shirt, and leggings are all from Cato’s. Here is a similar vest, here are the leggings, and here is a similar top. I told her to try a couple of my picture poses. This one is called the “crossed legs”, creative I know. Lol!50 Is Not Old | BerthaI am going to have to watch her next time we take pictures. I swear I did not just kill her dog! You would not know that she is the one always telling jokes, and making everyone laugh. Her multi-strand necklace is from Cato’s, here is a similar one.50 Is Not Old | BerthaI love her black fringe leather purse. She bought this on a shopping trip when we went to Atlanta. I think she bought this at Marshall’s, but here is a similar one.50 Is Not Old | BerthaThe boots were a QVC outlet purchase. They are by Isaac Mizrahi and here is a similar pair. I just read where the outlet store just received 11 pallets of items. No, I am not trying to rub it in, it just seems like that. Hahaha

50 Is Not Old | Bertha

I hope you have enjoyed meeting Bertha. As you can tell she is a hoot!

Life In The Fast Lane

50 Is Not Old | Life In The Fast LaneI’ve been singing “Life In The Fast Lane” by the Eagles all day. So, that got me thinking about how fast life can pass you by. When I turned 50, I expected to feel different. But, truth be told, I felt just like I did at 40, even 30. I expect I will feel the same when I turn 60. I know some people who freaked out when they turned 30, you would have thought it was the end of the world. Hahaha  The privilege of turning another year older, is something to be thankful for.

Spring Trends For 2016

50 Is Not Old | Spring TrendsSpring is right around the corner, but it can’t come fast enough for me. I am dying to wear pink and pastels in every color. I have recently gotten a pedicure, and these little piggies need sandals to show them off. I have been looking through  magazines, searching on Pinterest, reading other blogs, and watching fashion shows to get an idea of the upcoming spring trends. Some of them are outrageous, and some are kind of bland. The fun part is to pick the trends that work for you and run with it.
