WHY WEARING A HALTER TOP AFTER 40 IS A GOOD THING

It is crazy the things that you say that you will “NEVER” do when you are younger, and then you find yourself doing that very thing later on in life. Some of the things that I said that I’d never do when I was MUCH younger was, “I’ll never get married,” I’ll never have kids,” I’ll never wear short hair,” I’ll never move out of Tennessee,” and “I’ll never join the Circus!” Okay, one of those is accurate, and I hope you figured out that it was the Circus one. Lol!

Add to the list of things that I thought that I would never do…appear on the Internet in a towel in someone else’s bathroom. Lol! Y’all, did you see my post on Monday? If not, then check it out HERE. Wasn’t that shower gorgeous? Unfortunately, it wasn’t mine. Hahaha! When I got the email about the new hair products, I was excited to try them, but I immediately started telling Joe that our bathroom was not suitable for taking photos. So, I called my friend, Sandy Stiltner, and asked if I could use her shower since I knew that it was beautiful. My photographer friend, Courtney Baldwin, took my photos and messaged me later that day. She said, “I told my husband that I never imagined that I would be in the Stilner’s shower taking photos of Tania Stephens in a towel.” Just for all of your information…I was wearing clothing under the towel. Lol!!! But, I wanted to give a special thanks to Sandy and Virlo for loaning me their shower for the afternoon. ?

Some of you reading this post might be saying, “I’ll never wear a halter top because it shows my arms.” I am sure that halter tops are on a lot of people’s “can’t wear after 40” fashion lists, but I don’t believe in lists or rules. I believe in wearing what makes you happy, and what makes you feel good about yourself. If you are not happy showing your arms, then cover them up. But, just for your information, shoulders are one of the last areas on our body to show age. So, if our shoulders are one of the last areas to show age, then wearing an off the shoulder, and a halter top after 40 is a good thing! I even recommend drawing attention to the shoulders by putting some highlighter powder on them. Make those shoulders glisten! Remember, the shoulders are not the under part of our arms that we don’t like showing, so draw the attention to the shoulders instead. Lol!

If you like this white keyhole halter top, then don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t wear it. I love the feminine neckline of this top. The twisted neck is so sassy, and it gives this top a va-va-voom quality. I do wish that I had ordered this top in a size large, instead of the size medium. I would prefer more room around the waistline, plus anytime that I have something around my neck, I like it to fit loose. This top is lined, so that helps with any “show through” issues that you might have. Also, because I know that you are going to ask, I am wearing the silicone coverups by Hollywood Fashion Tape instead of a strapless bra. I’ve worn silicone coverups in other brands, but these are the best that I’ve found. However, you could wear a strapless bra with this top easily. HERE is the link to the keyhole top, and HERE is the link to the silicone coverups that I use.

I loved the top, I loved the pants, and I love these cork wedges; but I don’t like the shoes with this outfit. I think that they are too chunky, and I should have worn a sassier, more feminine shoe instead. I debated re-taking the photos and putting on a different pair, but decided to show you that I am human also and don’t always like what I pick out the first time. These navy wedge shoes are an old pair that I’ve had for years, and they are by Tommy Hilfiger. I love these shoes, and they are great with shorts, jeans, and maxi dresses, but not with this outfit. I’ll link to some similar shoes below, and then I’ll also link to some shoes that I think would have worked better.

I think that jewelry can make or break an outfit. The Maggie large hoop earrings (HERE) with the filigree design is a favorite of mine that I wear often. I love the size of these hoops and the statement they make. I also added two bracelets from Kendra Scott. The filigree bangle matches the hoop earrings that I am wearing. It is the Maggie Bangle Bracelet, and it has an inner diameter of 2.5 inches. I usually wear a 7″ bangle, and this one fits me great. I love to have different styles and textures when I combine bracelets, and my latest purchase of the link bracelet looks fabulous when stacked with the Maggie Bangle. The Beckett Link Bracelet has a hidden closure that took me a minute to locate. Lol! This bracelet is a tiny bit smaller than the Maggie, and the inner diameter is 2.3 inches. HERE is the link to the Maggie Bangle, and HERE is the link to the Beckett Link bracelet.

These navy pants from Chicos are the perfect cigarette style pants. They have a cute back slit at the hem that gives them so interest even as you are walking away. I loved the fit of these pants so much that I ordered them in the sand and black color also. When I find something that fits me well and can be worn year and year, then I will buy them in essential colors that I wear all of the time. These pants have a stretchy fabric that slims and smoothes at the tummy, so that gets a big thumbs up from me. I am also a big fan of clothing that doesn’t have to be pampered, and these are machine washable. I am wearing the .5 size in these pants which is equal to a size 6. However, I normally wear a size 10, but with Chicos, I’ve found that I need to size down. HERE is a post where I wore a black pair, and you can see how cute the back slit looks. HERE is the link to the pants, and they do come in several other colors.

Delphine, I’m so happy to read your post. I’m 60 and worried about weather I should be wearing a halter….but I’m going for it!!!

  4. Looks fantastic on you!

  5. There is no waist definition in this halter. My body is pretty straight, too, so it looks kind of boyish.

I don’t know Tania. Getting married and having kids is like joining the Circus! Cute outfit!

  14. I say wear whatever makes you happy and feels good! You look great in this top and those pants are so cute with the back slit. I don’t think the shoes look bad with that outfit, but I can see your point. I would wear a flat sandal but I don’t wear much of a heel since I am 5’10”.
