WHAT WEARING BROWN AND BLACK SAYS ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY
I figured that since I was showing you how to wear shades of brown yesterday, I might also show you this outfit. I understand that brown and black aren’t the flashiest color combinations, but they are a great addition to any wardrobe. You know, if this color-loving gurl is telling you that you need to add brown and black into your wardrobe, then it must be true!
Why should you add brown to your wardrobe?
The answer is simple. Brown is the earth’s color, and therefore people who wear brown are considered strong, stable, and reliable. Just think about the opposite of strong, stable, and reliable…would you want to be thought of in that way? Me neither! A person dressed in a brown dress or jacket will be thought of as reliable, intelligent, and rational. Think of that the next time that you have an important meeting.
Why should you add black to your wardrobe?
Once again, the answer is simple. People who wear black are considered strong and powerful. Men don’t wear black suits because they are slimming; they want to appear powerful! Black is also a color choice of people who want to be taken seriously. It sure doesn’t hurt that it can also be slimming. Lol!
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post; brown can also be considered BORING! So, looking for unique details is one way to elevate the look. The oversized, ribbed sleeves on this crew neck sweater are a great detail. This is a new brand for me, and I was impressed with how nice the sweater was constructed. It felt soft, fit me well, and the price point is really good also. This sweater could easily be dressed up with your favorite skirt or dress pants. I also think that adding a leopard print handbag or scarf would look fabulous.
This sweater runs true to size, and I am wearing a size medium. For sizing reference, I am 5’6″ tall, weigh between 155-165 at any given time; I wear a size 10 (or a 30) in jeans, a size 12 in dresses, and a size 10 or a medium to a large in tops.
A gurl has got to put on her jewels if she wants to SHINE! My large AVI gold-tone hoops and the Jack Multi-Chain necklace that I am wearing backwards. If I divide the number of wears that I have gotten, by how much I paid for these items, I am sure that I have paid pennies a day. I wear these all the time, and I have definitely gotten my money’s worth from them.
I wanted you to see how long this sweater extended in the back. The sweater is long enough that it would work for leggings also. With so many of us working from home, this is an important detail.
You can’t tell that these black jeans have a tiny bit of distressing at the knee in this photo. I love distressed jeans, but I know that a huge amount of you can’t stand them. So, it is easy for you to pick jeans to fit your lifestyle and personality. Hmmm, what does it say about me that I love distressed jeans? I found an article online that said that distressed denim reflects a little of who you are – hard-working but stylish. YEP! That is me to a tee! I have had these jeans for a while, and they are already sold out. I will link to similar black jeans in distressed and non-distressed variety.
Also, you might notice that I have on my UGG Classic II boots. When the forecast is for a couple of inches of snow, these babies keep my tootsies warm. I even wear these every night as my house shoes because I am always cold. These boots look great with jeans, but they also look great with leggings.
I am wearing a size 9, my normal size, and the boots fit great. I even have plenty of room to wear a pair of socks!

I never think to wear this color combination, but it sure looks nice. I’ll have to take a look in my closet.
I believe a brown and black outfit you modeled was one that caught my eye about 4 years ago or longer on Pinterest. Still enjoying your blog!
Tanya, I LOVE all the outfits you put together. It helps to see that we ladies “over 21” can wear current, fashionable things. I have been fascinated with your eyelashes. I finally ordered the lash boost today. I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for being so helpful.
I’m not much younger and wear about a size or two larger than you. I like distressed jeans on others but am afraid I may be too old to wear them. I haven’t bought any yet but you’ve inspired me to. You always look so stylish and cute. I’m glad I found your blog.
I love this color combo! Smooth.
I love this outfit on you. Do you ever wear silver jewelry? I have very little gold and my wedding rings and bracelets are white gold. Do these cute long necklaces would not work.
I too, wear my Ugg style boots as house shoes and with my PJ’S. They are super comfy and warm. I am thinking of jumping into the distressing jeans fashion as well. Haven’t tried it yet but with this past year, its taught me to grab life and enjoy the ride.
Great minds…? I dressed in this same combo this morning before reading your post but with black on top and brown on the bottom!
Wow, Tania, you look so strong, stable, and reliable! Very cute–your class and sass shine through no matter what color you wear!
All very interesting and you look cute as always. I read that if you want to be more believable, you should wear the color of your eyes. Whatever that’s worth. Now, don’t plan on putting on a blue dress bc you are planning on telling some doozies! LOL
Love all of your outfits and the styling helps! Love that you’re not afraid to show us fronts (and backs) of jeans and tops. Love that you are vulnerable (and brave) enough to give us the specific deets on your height, weight, sizing — it really is helpful! You always look amazing and encourage me to look my best. Thank you!
Love reading your post, especially the ones with your granddaughter !
Enjoy this time with her and all your grandchildren !
Tan and black are fabulous together! Even a dark brown and black can be interesting.
Would also add a leopard design scarf & bag.
How much “distressing” is too much? I ordered a pair from Old Navy and they are really distressed. They are the boyfriend mid-rise straight distressed ones. I have a pair of cropped ones I love but they are too big with the pandemic weight loss.
love this outfit !
I love brown and black together! I have been following you for over a year now and I absolutely love your blog, especially your hair and makeup videos! Thank you!!
Deborah, I am thrilled that you have been following the blog for so long. Thanks so much!
I am from the brown is boring camp and very few shades suit me so I have exactly 2 cool tan cardigans in my wardrobe. One for summer, one for winter. I love them with black or white. Are there other colour combos that would look good?
Your sunny personality always makes me smile – thank you for such a nice start each day! I wear brown and black often and love this sweater on you – ordering it today! Just purchased an animal print scarf from Nordstrom that will look great with it.
I might have to get me some Ugg boots! They look so cute on you.
Thanks for sharing cute outfits with us everyday. I love the black and brown together. Very chic looking.
I love to pair camel and black together…classic and always flattering.
I love today’s outfit! I need to get a pair of those boots!
Hi Tania. Thank you for being a bright spot in my day! Love reading your blog. I always feel a little extra special when I wear brown and black combo.
I am new to your blog but I look forward to reading your daily email. I have already made several purchases on your recommendations. Shoutout for the Tyme iron. I have struggled with hair that never holds a curl, but not anymore! Best purchase ever! Curls last for days. There is a learning curve but worth it.
Gurl you always look good!! I truly enjoy reading your posts daily. Thank you for all your hard work!
Love black and brown together and have often worn it over the years.
Thanks for the inspiration! As a new follower, I’m really enjoying your content. ♥️
I have white hair, and find myself wearing navy and gray a lot. Do you ? Love your look!
I love the camel & black together! Think I’ll be checking out this sweater – I like the detail on the sleeves. I really like the cool tones of your hair & want to do that – the bottom half of my hair has become very brassy…any tips?
I love wearing brown and black together. The two colors compliment one another and look “rich”. Thank you for posting. As always, love your blog.
Love the outfit and your hair!!
I’m glad you’re loving the Uggs! They are my staple since I lived in North Dakota (brrrrr). I’ve got many colors and styles and like you I wear them as house shoes, they’re so warm and cozy,
I really like this outfit, and think it’s the necklace that makes it perfect!
The combo of black and brown looks great. I would wear a scarf to add more color around my face. Sure appreciate the verse of the day.
I like the brown and black combo of your outfit today. I love my UGG boots and they definitely keep your tootsies toasty and are very comfortable.
I love brown and black especially in animal print!
Love the tan and black combo … not sure how the sweater would work for me with those sleeves though!
Love the black and brown together. Your eye lashes always look so good. Can you share what mascara you use to make your lashes look so good? Thank you!
Sherry, the mascara that I am using right now is Maneater by Tarte. But, my lashes are so long, and look so good, because of Lash Boost. Let me know if you would like me to hook you up.
I love the brown and black combination!
Look forward to your posts each day and love that a Bible verse is included! I just received my R&F goodies and am looking forward to the results. 💕
Thank you for always including a scripture! Love the brown & black.
I love the black and brown (camel) color combo.
Brown and black are my favorites, probably because they “hide” me a bit. Trying to break out with some color here and there now, too bit don’t think I’ll ever reach your color confidence😎
Love the leggings. Your hair looks beautiful.
Brown and black work great together, Tania. I like this outfit!
This outfit makes me want to get some brown into my closet! Thanks for the inspiration!
For warm house shoes, you should try ‘Old Friends.’ There are several styles from booties to scuffs, and they are all leather with shearling liners. They are less expensive than the UGGs.
Pieces look great together. Never worn brown and black together unless in a print; must try.
I like brown and black together and I like the detail on those sleeves. Every year I say I’m going to get some UGG boots and then the winter passes and still don’t own a pair. They would come in handy these next few days when our temps are going to drop tomorrow for a few days.
Looks nice and comfy
You beautiful as always.
Hi Tania,
I wear a lot of black, because it is slimming. I do have brown and tan sweaters but I have never thought of combining the two!
Will give it a try!
Happy Wednesday to you, have a good day!
Think a warmer darker brown would be better. Plus a scarf or wrap. Sleeves are quite interesting.
Uggs, you either love them or hate them. I love my uggs! They keep your feet so warm and they last for years. I also love your post, they are relevant and honest.
I like your style, and even though I am plus sized, it still gives me ideas. And I like your Bible texts!
I actually love brown and black together. An animal print scarf would look fabulous.
I think a leopard neck scarf would look great. I like brown and black a lot! You mentioned the leopard scarf ~love that idea!! 😊👍
Love the camel and black together. The whole outfit looks great!
You look beautiful as always Tania.I actually love brown and black together!Thank you for being here for us each day and showing us how to shine!
Would have loved to see this with a scarf and your tan pointy-toed booties!
Nice outfit today, Tania! I’m not opposed to distressed jeans but I don’t have any! 😄
I love having natural pieces of clothing in my closet but never think about pairing black and brown together. You look amazing, as always! I look forward to reading your posts each morning.
Love your articles Taniya
Thank you for all the great info, the daily Bible verses & your Sunday Sermons.
I love your post ! You inspire me to up my style!
