What Looks Best With Navy Blue
Today, we’re tackling one of the most versatile and timeless colors in our wardrobe—navy blue! Navy is a wardrobe essential that’s as classic as it gets. One of the biggest questions I often hear is, “What colors look best with navy blue?” Well, let me tell you, there are so many fabulous pairings that can elevate your look, and I’m going to walk you through some of my favorites. I’m also sharing some of my favorite navy blue patterns and ways I love to accessorize this color!

Why Navy Blue Deserves a Spot in Your Closet
Before we dive into color combinations, let’s talk about why navy blue is a must-have in your wardrobe. Navy is like the cooler, more approachable cousin of black. It’s slimming and versatile but doesn’t come off as harsh or too formal. For us gals over 50, it’s especially flattering because it’s a softer neutral that complements all skin tones. Whether you’re headed to brunch with friends or attending a dressier event, navy blue can easily transition from day to night.
What Colors Complement Navy Blue?
Now, let’s get into the good stuff—the colors that pair beautifully with navy blue. These combinations will have you looking stylish, polished, and ready for any occasion!

1. White and Navy
Navy and white is a no-brainer. To me, this pairing feels super fresh, crisp, and timeless. The contrast between the deep navy and bright white creates a clean, sophisticated look that always feels elegant. This is my go-to color combination when I’m wearing navy, because it just looks super classic and always works.

2. Pink and Navy
If you’re looking to add a softer, more feminine touch to your navy blue top, pink is a gorgeous option. This color combination creates a balance between the strong, deep tone of navy and the romantic feel of pink. The best part is that navy looks great with all shades of pink, from hot pink and coral to blush pink!

3. Camel and Tan with Navy
Camel and tan are warm, neutral colors that look great with navy blue. This combo is perfect for fall and winter when you want an outfit that feels cozy but still put-together. The earthy camel tones help the navy stand out and make the whole look feel a bit more upscale.

4. Emerald Green with Navy
When you’re in the mood to stand out, pairing navy blue with emerald green is a great option. These rich, bold colors work so well together and give off an elegant vibe that’s sure to get noticed. An emerald green earring, scarf, or handbag is going to accent your navy outfit perfectly!

5. Navy on Navy
A monochromatic look like a navy on navy outfit can make you look long and lean! You could even go with a navy blouse or sweater with a dark wash jean. This makes getting ready a breeze since you’re not having to try and find a complementary color. Just add a neutral colored jacket or cardigan to top the look if it’s cool outside!

Does Navy Blue Look Good with Patterns?
Not only do solid colors work well with navy blue, but so do patterns. If you’re ready to take your style up a notch, mixing navy blue with fun patterns can add even more flair to your outfit.

1. Stripes
Navy and stripes go hand-in-hand, especially if you’re after that timeless, nautical vibe. Striped navy tops are perfect for casual looks, and they pair well with white, red, or even bright yellow accessories for a pop of color. This striped square neck tank looks great by itself in the summer, and under any of your layers in the fall or winter!

2. Floral Prints
For a softer, more feminine vibe, floral prints pair perfectly with navy blue. Whether it’s a floral scarf, skirt, or even a dress, the bright pops of color in the pattern really make the navy stand out. It’s an easy way to add a little fun and personality to your outfit without going over the top.
Accessories That Pair Well with Navy Blue
Once you’ve got your color combinations nailed down, it’s time to talk accessories! The right accessories can make all the difference when styling your navy blue clothing.
1. Gold Jewelry
Gold jewelry is a super simple way to make any navy outfit look a bit fancier. The warm gold really stands out against the cool navy, giving it just the right amount of shine. Whether you throw on a chunky necklace or some classic hoops, gold is a solid choice when you’re wearing navy.

2. Scarves
A scarf or wrap is a fantastic way to add a pop of color or pattern to your outfit. Choose a patterned scarf with navy elements for a cohesive look, or go bold with a bright, contrasting color like red or mustard yellow. This ruana wrap from Kate Spade is no longer available, but it was the perfect way to cover my arms in this navy jumpsuit!

3. Handbags and Shoes
When it comes to handbags and shoes, you’ve got plenty of options. Neutral shades like tan, beige, or white give you that simple, minimalist vibe, while brighter colors can add a little personality to your outfit. And if you want to dress up your navy top for a night out, go for silver or gold shoes and a matching bag to add a bit of sparkle.

Navy is very versatile, yes for sure softer than black. Depending on the undertone, navy can work for gals with cool or warm complexions. I have warm toned navy in my closet and I wear it with many of your combinations above. I actually love wearing navy with teal. 🙂
love all the navy blue outfits! it really is versatile.
I do prefer to wear navy blue close to my face instead of black because as you said, it’s not as harsh. I really like your pairing of the navy & camel. I struggle with wearing a solid navy top with blue jeans but I have done it. I hope y’all had a safe drive home.
Navy is much softer and not as harsh as black.
Love your post on the color Navy and your verse of the day today! My mom often dressed me & my younger sister in little navy “sailor” outfits or navy nautical shorts or “scooter skirts” & navy striped tops during the summers in the 1960’s. To this day, I am a HUGE fan of solid navy and navy prints all year round. It’s my go-to classic, preppy color!
Great post, lovely model.
I wear navy often year around.
I watched the Kansas City game on TV. can’t believe you were there! I agree with all of your navy paintings. I would add purple to the list. I love that combo.
