Wearing Black Pants Three Ways for the Holidays

Usually, black is not my go-to color, but I’ve embraced it this fall. Black can be too harsh against my skin, so I’ve learned to add a brighter color around my face to brighten my look. These gorgeous outfits from Talbots are ones I can wear for the holidays and later this winter. Today I’m wearing black pants three ways for the holidays.

Bright colors make me happy, so I love adding hot pink, vivid red, and vibrant shades of blue to my wardrobe. You can add a pop of color in many ways, like with a scarf, handbag, shoes, or jewelry.

My pop of color is this Festive Pink Cashmere V-Neck Sweater, and you can see how it makes me glow. I would probably add a fun Christmas brooch like the ones below to make this outfit look a little more festive for the holidays. I wasn’t undecided whether to order a medium or a large, but I ended up ordering a large. I would rather something be a tiny bit large on me as too tight. However, I think the medium would work best, so I will order that size and see which one works best.

My husband has a “thing” for sunglasses and watches. My “thing” is puffer coats with fur trim on the hood. I can’t get enough of them, so when I saw this Faux Fur Trim Hooded Alternative Down Parka, I had to order it. I ordered it in black and red to see which one I liked the best. Lol! The coat is super warm and fits great. I’m wearing a medium, and it fits fine even with wearing a sweater underneath.

I know I’ll get a lot of wear from this coat this winter, and I even like how it looks next to my face.

Here is another outfit wearing black pants for the holidays. If you’ve followed me for very long, you know I also have a “thing” for Fair Isle sweaters. Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors, and it became popular after the Prince of Wales wore one in 1925.

Red is a traditional color of Christmas, and this Ruby Red Fair Isle Sweater looks holiday ready. I love this festive print that can be worn all winter long, not just around Christmas. This sweater looks great with black, but it will look great with camel, white, or jeans. I’m wearing a medium which fits me great.

When creating a festive holiday outfit, black and brown might not be your first thought. This outfit is sure to change your mind with its classic look and just a hint of sparkle.

I didn’t have to look far to get my inspiration for this outfit. Lucy Lu looks perfect in her black and brown coat, and we match perfectly. This Mockneck Sweater features a festive, metallic stripe with a tiny bit of sparkle. I’m wearing a medium, and the sweater fits great.

Getting a photo of the sparkle is not easy, but you can see a few shiny specks on the sweater. I’ve worn this sweater with the Faux Fur Metallic Vest that I wore with the light coral Fair Isle Sweater earlier, and it looked fabulous.

All of these festive holiday looks were made with a pair of Black Stretch Corduroy Jeggings. I bought these ankle-length corduroy pants last year in Twig, and I loved them so much that I got a black pair this year. These pants are flattering and stretch enough to feel comfortable even if you are active all day long. I’m wearing my usual size 8, and they fit TTS.

I like dressing comfortably, and I also want to look modern and stylish. I love shopping at Talbots, and I am not the only one. Talbots has always been my husband’s favorite retailer. When he traveled out of town, he always brought me back something from Talbots. Talbots carries classic and timeless clothing that always seems to be in style. I find the quality of the clothing excellent, and I can wear them for years.

Talbots sponsors this post, and I will receive compensation, but the opinions expressed are my own.

  2. Hi, I also love Talbots and I’m so glad you model some of their clothing. It gives me an idea of how they will fit.
Thanks for doing that. Have a wonderful holiday season. K. Ziegler

  3. I love the clothes you model! I’m going broke buying what I see!!! Keep on with the classics-I love the look. Have you found any reasonable Ky priced plaid slacks? I want some, and they either cost $150+ or are leggings. Ok hank you for your comments.

  4. I ordered the red fair isle sweater! I saw one in the store and loved it, but it was way too big for me. Glad to see it featured on your post, so I ordered one online from your link. It’s hard to find a black pair of jeans that don’t collect all the lint and pet hair they come in contact with. Have you found black jeans that are made of a fabric that you don’t have to constantly de-lint?

  5. Thank you, Tania, for your tips! I wear a lot of black – top/pants, as you can SO dress them up with a poncho, cardigan, jacket, along with a fancy scarf and jewelry – you are ready for everything!!

  6. I Love your style ideas. I’ve never been fashion savvy as I wear scrubs (aka pajamas as my hubby calls them) to work. I used to wear dress casual to work before Covid and now with it finally getting better I want to take some of your ideas and get another work wardrobe. That red sweater is gorgeous. Thanks

  7. Like you, I’ve felt that black can wash me out. However, it is a wonderful way to set of those bright, beautiful colors. I’m inspired to copy the looks you’ve showcased!

  8. Fun, casual outfits with black pants, incisive the brown striped sweater which I would not have expected to work.

  9. Great ideas for the holidays!! I am a puffy coat with fur around the hood junkie too. Something about the fur around the hood makes you feel special. Your husband is such a sweetie to bring you gifts when he is away 🙂

  10. Love the black corduroy jeggings! My mother, daughter and I also love Emily in Paris! I can’t wait for the new season starting soon. Have a great Monday!!

  11. Love your looks today. I especially like the red fair isle sweater on you, it really brightens up your face. The beige and black not so much.

  12. I love a faux fur everything. And I lovel a hot pink everything too!!! And the costume jewelry!!I love costume jewelry!!! This pist made my week!!!

  13. I love the bright pink – it is very festive. I have a Christmas Party Friday night and I think I see a shopping trip tomorrow to find something bright like that to go with my black coated denim pants. Thanks for the inspiration to think outside of the box!!!
In other news….you just unpacked a suitcase from SEPTEMBER???!!!!! Oh My Tania…I got home last night from Quebec City and before bed, I was unpacked, laundry sorted and started and luggage put away – I would go nuts leaving it.

  14. Your blog is an excellent resource for me since you provide so many options with one piece. I also enjoy seeing a complete outfit including jewelry and footwear.

  15. Tania….you look wonderful in all of the clothing. I really appreciate the way you show multiple looks with one piece. So helpful!

  16. I have black corduroy stretch leggings so just HAD to get the red fair isle sweater to go with them! Thanks for a great idea!

  17. excellent photos, especially like the hot pink. I’m a bit chesty and short waisted, so often steer away from too much pattern like the fair isle. I usually look for v-neck.
Talbott looks like a great store but the prices are a bit high as we are in retirement segway.
would love that metallic gold vest though.
    I’m from Canada btw.

  18. I wear black all the time. It is one of my best colors, being a winter on the color wheel! And that pink sweater is a winner on you! you look great as always!!!

  19. Thank you for keeping us “seasoned gals” looking fashionable and classy. I’m 62 and have loved all your outfits. I live in Phoenix so have to modify because of the temps, but you still inspire me and give me great ideas!

  20. Love all of your outfits. I purchased a fair isle sweater from Talbots last year after seeing you in it. It has quickly become a favorite!

  21. I am packing for a trip to Arkansas to see my daughter and grandkids. I only want to take a carry on since i will be traveling with a service dog. I have started looking at ways to wear clothes like you just shared. A three in one. can you please email some more tips. Thank you

  22. I love that you featured black pants. They are so versatile and can be dressed up or down. Every woman should have at least three pairs in her closet! And Talbots is my go to store. Love seeing you in pink🤗

  23. You are such an inspiration and a breath of fresh air for all women.
Your posts and style is simply amazing. Thank you for showing the world “50 is not old”. Nor is 60,70 or even 80.
Blessing to you and your family.

  24. Great outfits once again! Going to post them in my notes. Sadly I just ordered a 32° jacket before seeing this post.

  25. Love that you styled black pants with colorful tops. This reflects my style of dressing.
Thank you for your blog and all the work that you put into it.

  26. You look amazing in pink, especially when you add those adorable pink pumps I also had to have after I saw them on you!!

  27. I heard that Emily in Paris was good from friends . My husband likes it as well ! Who knew? I love to see what she turns up wearing . The characters are are something else.

I like the fair isle red sweater. Looks festive and cheerful.

  28. All festive, not over-the-top choices. I wore the off-shoulder black sweater (a best seller) to a get-together last weekend and felt very festive myself! Thanks for all you do <3

  29. I love the pink sweater. It looks great on you. Thank you for shopping for all of us and making it a lot easier.

  30. Love all the bright colors!
Thank you for showing different ways to wear black.
I’m like you, I like bright colors.
    Debbie

  31. I love black, but have bought more bright colored sweaters this year. My favorite is the brown striped sweater. Like a moth I am attracted to pieces that have a little bit of glitter. (Haha!) I definitely think it can be considered a Christmas sweater during the season, but not so much that i couldn’t wear it afterwards.

  32. Love all three looks but my favorite is the pink sweater. I also love Talbots as their fashions are timeless.

  33. Tania – I’ve shied away from bright colors but that pink sweater looks great with black. Maybe my next buy! Becky Sanchez

  34. All 3 outfits look great on you! I would never wear that bright a sweater as the pink one but still like it on you. My pick is definitely the tan sweater. I absolutely love it with those black pants.

  35. Love Talbots. Heading there today so I’ll definitely take a look at all these items. Thanks Tania for showing items from one of my favorite stores.

  36. I really love all of these outfits, especially that coat! They are a bit out of my price range, but I still love looking at your posts.

  37. I love that all the sweaters can be worn with one pair of black pants and accessorized with scarves, brooches and necklaces.

  38. Thank you for your posts…I have learned a lot from you in making my wardrobe work for my age. I still struggle with getting the right look with the different styles and lengths of pants/jeans and boots. Whether to tuck them in or roll them up?? They just never seem to look just right. I am 62 so I don’t wear the newer style of wide frayed jeans!

  39. All three outfits look great on you, Tania! I really appreciate this post because we will be visiting family for two weeks right after Christmas. Even though we are taking our Ram, I plan on packing a capsule wardrobe. Our time will be split between the two sisters so wearing an outfit multiple times will not be an issue. I have a few sweaters in the brown family that I want to take, along with black pants, so you’ve given me inspiration to pair the two colors together. Thank you!

  40. Love the ideas with black ! My go to has always been black . Following your posts has given me soo many ideas to do different with choosing clothes . I have gotten more colors in my wardrobe . And I’m loving the sweaters ! Purchased 3 from Talbots’s already ! Love them and I am now wearing browns, greens, navy , and pinks !! Big changes for me but having fun ! Thank you for your ideas and your confidence that you share .

  41. Loving the outfits, very flattering. I have the pants in green from last year, and love them so really need them in the black as it will go with more sweaters. Have a blessed week.

  42. The pink sweater does look pretty up against your face! I haven’t work corduroy since I was probably 13. I decided to give them a try and went looking for a grey. I’ve had no luck because my size always seems to sell out fast. Thanks for sharing.

  43. Love the black and brown. What size are you wearing? The pink looks great on you but I’m just uncomfortable in bright colors.

  44. I pretty much live in black pants this time of year. I haven’t even thought of adding cords to my collection. I love that bright pink sweater too, but it’s already sold out in my size.

  45. Love Talbots. I discovered them when I needed to upgrade my scrubs for a management job. Have stayed with them ever since. They do not disappoint.

  46. Your outfits are so pretty! I love each one, if I had to pick my favorite it would be the pink sweater, add a festive pin and you’re done! Thanks for the inspiration.

  47. Talbots is my favorite place to shop! I love all of your holiday looks … Perfect outfits for me! Classy and stylish! Thank you for your timely post!

  48. Talents is my favorite place to shop! I love all of your holiday looks … Perfect outfits for me! Classy and stylish! Thank you for your timely post!

  49. Tania,
I love the red and black sweater and the camel/black stripe sweater! I love black pants and jean. I often shop at Talbots! Thank you so much for sharing these fashion ideas!

  50. Hi Tania

Just love your posts even though I live in the UK. They give me ideas for style and colours as I unfortunately do not have access to most of the stores you mention. Talbots did have a couple of stores here and I really enjoyed shopping there. I just love the camel sparkly stripped sweater. Such a shame they are no longer here. Carol McCarthy

  51. I wear black pants or jeans everyday. I love the three different sweaters styled with one pair of paints.
    Great idea.

  52. Love the pink sweater, looks fun and festive and it does make you glow. It’s my favorite, I also love the camel striped sweater. Great choices as always’

  53. I too love fairisle sweaters , this red one is so festive! I also love the idea of the stretch corduroy pants , it makes it a little bit dressy but comfortable.
