Wow! You guys really had some great ideas on yesterday’s Hit or Miss post. One day, I might try to restyle the outfit using the most suggested comments. I think that would be fun, but I would need to have the suggestions in my closet. I almost picked both of today’s looks for the Hit or Miss feature. Nearly every outfit can be included in that post.

I’m trying to feature a try-on haul on Thursdays, so I finally decided to show these two outfits as a try-on haul instead. Both of these outfits are from Chico’s. I love Chico’s clothing, but figuring out the sizing can be an issue if you’ve never shopped there before. To give you a sizing reference, I’ll give you my stats to help you figure out the best size for yourself.

I’m 5’6″ tall, weigh approx. 150 lbs., and I usually wear a size 8-10 in pants, a 10-12 in dresses, an M-L in tops, and a 9 in shoes. I am in-between sizes right now, so it is harder to know which size will fit me. Sometimes I will order both sizes and send back the one that doesn’t work.

I was shocked at this ruffled plaid blouse. Plaid isn’t a pattern that I love, so I didn’t respect to like the blouse. However, once I put the shirt on, I was thrilled at how nice it looked. It might be the ruffles that help the shirt to look feminine, or it could be the lighter stripes in the shirt. Either way, I thought this shirt was a HIT. This is an excellent example of trying things you don’t think you will like. You might be surprised like I was. Lol! I am wearing a size 1 in the top, and it fits great.

I loved how my Neverfull MM Monogram Canvas Pochette Wristlet Pouch looked with the top. This pouch was part of the Neverfull that I bought years ago. It was a reward for hitting a goal I had set for myself. That reminds me, I need to set myself a new goal. I am a reward-driven person, and I will work hard to achieve goals.

Here is the view of the length of the plaid shirt. I have it half tucked in the front, but you can see the length in this photo.

I added oversize pearl stud earrings to this look. The pearl studs go with the feminine look of the top. I’m also wearing an 18 kt. Gold vermeil cross necklace that I wear daily. The long string of pearls is an old necklace that is no longer available.

I thought the So Slimming Brigitte pants looked great with this top, and they fit great. They have Hidden Fit technology that shapes your style for a figure-trimming fit. These pants come in many colors, and I’m wearing Alabaster today. I always size up when I wear white pants to ensure they are too tight, so I am wearing a size 1. I think they are a little loose, but I meant for them to be that way.

This navy and white outfit is perfect for spring. I love wearing navy and white, and I think it is a classic and elegant color combination. This color combination looks crisp and clean, and I find it seems professional also.

This navy flutter sleeved top is 100% linen. It is soft and lightweight, and it is also feminine-looking. The flutter sleeve appeals to me much more than the poof or puff sleeve. The linen material will be great for summer also since linen is cooling, The top comes in several colors, and the jade color is gorgeous. You can see my beige bra through the material because a bright ring light is shining on it, but it looks fine in standard lighting. I’m wearing a size 1, and it fits great.

I like the length of the flutter sleeve top. It isn’t as long as a tunic top, so I don’t mind wearing it untucked.

I thought the long nautical necklace was cute, and everyone must have also since it is already sold out. My AVI large gold hoop earrings are my favorite ones that I wear all of the time. The cross necklace is the one that I linked to above.

Over 40 Fashion Blogger, Tania Stephens is wearing printed ankle pants with pom poms

These printed slim crops will be a hit for some and a miss for others. I like printed pants, but the fringe pom-poms are a detail about which I’m on the fence. I think they are super cute and add a lot to the pants, but I’m not sure they are something that I love. I’m wearing a size 1 in the pants, and since they are a slim cut, they fit me great.

I also added a pair of beige suede heels. These pumps were from JCrew Factory, and I’ve had these heel pumps for a while. I love these heels since they go with everything. I’ll try to find similar shoes that don’t have a high heels.

  1. I’d like to see you model outfits while wearing pearls. I’m looking for ways to wear my pearls with casual outfits.

    1. Joyce, if you type pearls into the search bar, you’ll see me wearing them in other posts.

  2. Hi! I need help! I hate the pants that end above ankles that are not slim. Looks like a too short flare pant. What do you think of those pants. Have seen them on lots of posts. Not wearing them. Love boot cut pants with booties. Have problem feet. Can’t wear cute heels with skinny or crops. Wear a lot of sandals that look cute. Wish I could wear heels. Love the naot brand Kayla sandal (have lots of colors) and the luma pump (have 4 colors). It’s said I look under 50, I am 66.

  3. I love Chico’s! N the plaid blouse is pretty but I wouldn’t have tried it also!

  4. Carol Boobyer says:

The plaid blouse looks amazing on you!!

  5. I love the first outfit and I think you look beautiful in it. Thankyou for showing us how these looser pants look. I am starting to really like them.

  6. The ruffle plaid top is definitely a hit, as is the blue top. I am with you on the fence about the pompom trim on the print slacks. It looks rather fun, if you are going to a party, but not if you were heading for a meeting or the office.

  7. Cute outfits I could do see myself wearing them both

  8. The ruffle definitely makes a difference on the plaid blouse.

  9. Love the outfits. Especially love the navy linen top with the white pants.

  10. Amy Tuttle says:

I really like the plaid shirt too and I’m not a plaid lover. It’s super cute! And with the ruffle on the front it would take care of any “gaps” between buttons too. 🙂

  11. Paige Green says:

Love them both on you! The plaid blouse is right up my alley. The printed pants on my pear-shape? Maybe not.
I do like the pom-poms. They remind me of some capris I used to have that had multi-colored fringe on the hem.

  12. Kathleen McDermott says:

Love both outfits. Ruffled plaid blouses are divine, as are white jeans. Would substitute flats (never been comfortable in heels and don’t feel the need at 5’7”). Would also wear navy or black bra. Pom Pom trim makes me happy. Clothes, etc., should make us happy!

  13. I’m not a fan of plaid but the blouse looks good on you. Both outfits look good.

  14. Debbie Minett says:

    Tania,
I so enjoy your emails and LOVE both of these outfits! You should keep them both because they are very flattering on you!

  15. Nancy McClure says:

I love both outfits! I was at Chicos yesterday and saw the pants. I love it when you show clothes from there. Our body types are similar. I figure if it looks good on you it will look good on me too! I’ve bought a couple of things based on seeing you in the outfit!

  16. Kathy Hayles says:

Love both outfits, although the first one is my favorite. I don’t care for the fringe on the pants of the navy outfit. Navy really looks good on you.

  17. Love both outfits, they look great on you!

  18. Tanya- as usual you look so cute in both outfits! I cannot wear any Chico’s pants due to stride anyway- the tops as sure worth investigating. As I age I hesitate on prints? The navy top looks thin like it needs a cami or dark bra?? Thank you for continually making me think outside the box!

  19. Both outfits look great on you but the navy & white is my favourite. Those pants are so darn cute with the Pom Pom detail!

  20. I love the Pom Pom fringe! It’s a fun and slightly dramatic addition to the outfit!

  21. connie klappenbach says:

Tania, you would look good in anything. Must comment on the heels. Very pretty but not practical.

  22. I LOVE the plaid top AND the poms on the navy/white pants!! I normally don’t wear print pants anymore because I’m not as thin as I used to be😉but I would probably wear these! I would put a couple of long gold necklaces over the navy top instead of a navy one. The poms remind me of a Lily Pulitzer dress that I used to wear but will be giving to my daughter this summer as I think it’s too short on a 62 yr old woman.🥲 Maybe buying these pants would make me feel better about that.😆

  23. Kelly Brooks says:

Love those printed pant’s although I agree not so sure about the Pom poms.

  24. Oddly enough I just bought a plaid shirt in almost identical colors. No ruffle though and I think that is what moves this up a notch. It’s all about the details sometimes. I wonder if a black bra might work better. I know we are told nude works with everything but not always imho

I really love the first outfit on you. I also love your hair ,it’s a little longer now and I like THE movement of your bangs. Do to my job and food problems, I pretty much only wear sneakers. Its often hard for Me to envision wearing some of THE outfits. Because I don’t wear heels.
