The Right Scarf to Elevate Your Look
Let’s talk about one of my FAVORITE ways to jazz up an outfit—scarves! The right scarf can take your wardrobe from “just okay” to “wow” in an instant. Whether you’re looking for a pop of color, a touch of sophistication, or a little warmth for those colder months, scarves are the perfect versatile accessory.
Here’s a funny story: Years ago, when I actually made YouTube videos, I made one on how to tie a scarf. It’s had 870k views, lol. I guess that means there’s a lot of interest. You can find the video at the bottom of today’s post. So, let’s dive into some fabulous finds that will elevate your overall look and show off your personal style!
What Should I Look For In A Scarf?
When shopping for the perfect scarf, Gurls, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, think about the material—lighter fabrics like silk are great for adding a touch of elegance, while wool and cashmere offer more warmth for the colder months.
The size and shape also matter; whether it’s a silk square or a cozy blanket scarf, you want something that gives you plenty of styling options, like tying it in a French knot or draping it over your shoulders. Don’t forget to consider the color and pattern—neutral tones work with almost any outfit, but bold patterns like floral or plaid can add that perfect pop of color to your look.
Also, keep in mind care instructions and durability, especially if you’re picking a delicate material that might need hand washing. Choose a scarf that suits your lifestyle—something versatile enough to be worn in numerous ways, whether as a headscarf, neck wrap, or even around the handle of your handbag. Most importantly, pick a scarf that reflects your personal style and can easily elevate any outfit.
This blue and gold scarf from Ann Taylor is a classic choice. The silk fabric would drape beautifully, instantly adding elegance to any look. I could totally see this styled with jeans and a simple white tee for a pop of color, or even wrapped around the handle of your handbag for that little extra flair. It’s perfect for those days when you want a timeless accessory to pull your outfit together without too much fuss. Plus, it would be a great way to add some warmth during the colder months.
The Right Scarf to Elevate Your Look
This printed silk scarf from J.Crew is a style statement all on its own! The lightweight fabric is ideal for adding a touch of sophistication, whether you’re heading to work or out for lunch with friends. Try wearing it as a hair cover, or even letting it drape loosely over the shoulders for that effortless, “I just threw this on” look—ha! I love the endless possibilities with this one, from styling it around your neck to looping it around your wrist for a cute bracelet look. Talk about versatility!
Now, this red stripe scarf from Talbots is a statement piece! The bold stripes give it a modern twist, and it’s just the thing to add some flair. I can imagine wrapping this one around my neck with a classic knot to elevate a simple outfit. Or even folding it and tying it around my waist for a chic belt loop style! It’s made of durable cotton, which means it’s both stylish and practical. I love it when fashion meets comfort!
The Right Scarf to Elevate Your Look
Seriously. How beautiful is this! This scarf from Talbots just looks like money, lol. I can’t think of a place or occasion where you couldn’t wear this and look amazing. Whether you want to fold it into a simple knot or experiment with a bow, this scarf can be worn a ton of ways. I love the playful plaid pattern on the back and the lovely pattern on the front. Wear this tucked into a plain white shirt with some jeans, and you’re good to go.
Gurls, florals aren’t just for spring—this floral scarf from Macy’s is perfect for fall! It’s made from a lightweight fabric that’s perfect for layering with your fall wardrobe. Wrap it around your neck in a loop or let the longer ends hang for a relaxed vibe. The scarf would look amazing against trending chocolate brown, a black sweater, or a tailored coat. Plus, the floral pattern is just the right amount of feminine, making it a perfect scarf for formal events or casual outings.
Now, here’s a houndstooth scarf from Macy’s that adds instant class to your overall look. Houndstooth is such a classic pattern, and the versatility of this scarf means you can style it for both work and play. It’s a bit bolder, so I’d pair it with a solid top to let the scarf do all the talking! I love the colors in this and it’s a great size.
The Right Scarf to Elevate Your Look
Want something super soft? Calvin Klein’s pashmina scarf is all about luxury and comfort. The fabric has a luxurious feel, making it perfect for wrapping around your shoulders during those chilly evenings. That’s one of my favorite ways to wear a large scarf. I just drape it like a shawl over a dress for formal events when a jacket would be out of place. The options are truly endless—whether you fold it neatly or just throw it on, it instantly adds that touch of sophistication we all love.
This buffalo plaid scarf is giving me all the cozy vibes. Wear it draped loosely over a sweater or wrap it tightly for those colder months. The plaid pattern screams autumn, and I can totally see myself snuggling up in this one for pumpkin patch trips with the grandkids—lol! This would look great with some skinny jeans and black, tall boots.
If you’re looking for warmth and versatility, this large blanket scarf is it! It’s big enough to use as a wrap over your shoulders or even as a throw for those chillier evenings. I love how you can drape it over a simple outfit to instantly change the look. And because it’s so oversized, you can style it in numerous ways—from a casual loop around the neck to a full-on wrap. It’s like wearing a hug, and who wouldn’t want that?
The Right Scarf to Elevate Your Look
And there you have it, Gurls—the right scarf can truly elevate your look and add that little something extra to your personal style. Whether you’re going for a casual day out or a more formal event, there’s a scarf out there for every occasion.
I love how each of these can be styled in numerous ways to fit your outfit and mood, giving you endless possibilities. So, next time you’re looking to add a pop of color or a touch of sophistication, grab one of these beauties and have some fun with it! I love scarves! thanks for the tips
I love your video tutorial! Being super hot natured, scarves are a challenge. I love them and the chic-ness they add to an outfit. I think your ways of tying them will really work for me. Thanks!
Delanie, I like to keep it simple and easy.
Thank you for sharing the video. I remember that one and I still use those scarf tricks. You might think of doing videos again, you are great at it and sometimes it’s easier to understand when you see things that way.
Thank you for sharing such good tips with us !
Wow all that stuff in the first photo on the table and all those boxes ! Do you really keep all that stuff or return most of it after pictures are taken? Where do you keep it all ?
Most of it I keep. I love makeup and I am constantly switching it up.
You have beautiful skin
It’s funny..one place I read scarves are ‘Out’.. then read this post and see they are ok this year!!
Personally, I would wear scarves regardless!
Susan, this is one of those items that I like regardless of their in or out status.
Hello!
You look beautiful in the photo today! Loved the scarf, bummed it wasn’t available. I did get one of your navy blue blazers and it’s a great look today with the white scalloped collar blouse. Do you have a link for that? Thanks!!
Becky, that photo was from 2021, and I’m not even sure where the shirt was from.
I love an infinity scarf!
That is just a scarf that I tied the ends together.
I love scarves too. They also keep me warm, and unfortunately winter is just around the corner. Thanks for reminding me how to dress up an outfit with one.
Your vintage scarf has all the colors I have been looking for in vain. I got so excited until I saw the words vintage, no link. Aaaargh. I have several cashmere crew neck sweaters that look wonderful with silk scarves, but the mix of colors in the new scarves are just never right for what I am looking for. The search continues.
I love winter scarves in the winter. I never see anyone with a silky scarf. Probably because it’s too hot here for most of the year. A few years ago when I was working scarves were trending. I had so many that I donated them to Goodwill. Maybe one of these days, hopefully next month we can start getting cold fronts so I can wear my winter scarves. I’m still wearing shorts and sandals.
Love love the floral one!! Sadly it will not ship to Canada. Oh well, more money in my pocket😊
What a simple and pretty way to jazz up an outfit. Great suggestions!
I need to try a scarf with outfits- love these
Tania, the very first picture ever saw of you, you had the cutest scarf on with linen pants (years ago)…I am a sucker for scarves! Happy Wednesday ❤️❤️❤️
I used to wear scarves a LOT!! Not sure what happened but I don’t now.

I love scarves in the Fall and Winter! Love the YouTube! Have a Blessed day!
I am one of the women who tries on the scarf and then decides no it just doesn’t look right! I guess it’s time to try again. You look lovely in them. They always look effortless on other people and elevate their outfits.
Thanks for this post. I have a few scarves but always have a hard time tying them. Your video is great!
Love your scarf post this morning . Will have to try a few of these new ideas. Thank you!!
I love scarves. They do add a little pop to any outfit, including jeans and a t-shirt. Have a great day!
