SHE’S MY BABY GIRL
I have talked some about my family, but just in bits and pieces. I am missing my daughter today so I thought I would tell you a little about her. She is my baby girl, even thought she is 28 years old. She is the polar opposite of me, in looks and actions. She is tall, dark, and mouthy. Haha
One day when Ashleigh was about 8 or 9 years old, Joe was threatening her about something. He acted like he was going to “get” her, so she took off running. Joe was right on her heels and they were starting down the hall. All of a sudden, she stopped and whirled around on him. “What?” He was so taken back by her standing up to him, he forgot what he was even after her about. That was our first encounter with the young woman she was going to become.
Fast forward to college age Ashleigh. She wanted, since the age of 7, to be a marine biologist. Not really a career that you could have in Grundy, VA, so I was not surprised that she would want to go away to college. I was surprised though, when she chose Alaska. Could she have picked a place any farther away and still been in the US?
Not only did she move away, she went by herself not knowing a soul. She flew into Juneau Alaska and someone from the school picked her up. She lived at the college housing, but did not even have a car for the first month. There is NO way I would have done any of that. She is my tough, brave, beautiful, and spoiled rotten daughter and I love her with all my heart
Today’s outfit is a little bit of a hot mess. You can feel free not to copy this look. I had computer issues and my photo library disappeared. The reason I am telling you that is, if I had a choice of a different outfit to show, this one might not have ever made the blog.The problem is this; I like all the essential items, but I am not sure they “work” together. I love these linen pants from Old Navy. However, I tried on several shirts this morning, and could not get the look I was wanting. I love the simple v top (c/o) from Covered Perfectly, it is a perfect go-to top in the spring and summer, when nothing else will work. I have it deliberately crunched in the front for that relaxed kind of feel. I love this waterfall sweater in the navy and white stripes. I like that is goes with the pants, in one of those crazy pattern mixing kind of way. BUT, I don’t know if I love the outfit. It reminds me of chicken and dumplings. I love every single ingredient in chicken and dumplings, but I don’t like chicken and dumplings. Haha

I’m sorry about this post all around. My time management has not been very good today. I blame the computer. Since it tore up, I had to send it to be repaired, then I had to go to a woman’s club meeting where I was installing a new slate of officers for the coming year. I got back home around 9:00 p.m. and the computer is not EXACTLY performing correctly. It is kind of like today’s outfit, not really bad, but just seems off a little.
If there is anybody who has never visited my blog before, please don’t think this is the norm. I swear, I usually do better. You gurls back me up on this. Lol!
This is my daughter in every way. I always think of her when I hear this, and it never fails to make me smile.

I have a young woman daughter who is just like yours! She was 2 years old and she was talking to her brother about something that must have made her mad, and she balled up her little tiny fist at him and said, “do you want some of this!” Well we never laughed so hard! Don’t know where she heard or saw it. She’s an adventurous sort as well, went to Costa Rica to learn Spanish in her freshman year and lived with a family she never met before. Moved to LA for school, brave gurl! Your outfit looks comfy for sure! We have all had those days.
Different strokes… I LOVE this outfit on you, and the combination of the pieces. Perhaps I would switch the shoes to a platform sandal.
For me, a different sweater/jacket may work better. Perhaps your white denim jacket/blazer, blue denim jacket, or a coral sweater? Beautiful picture of your daughter, what a background!

May I suggest you tuck the top in? Pants as loose/flows as these need to be countered by a trim top/Tshirt. A bit higher heel would raise them off the ground making them look like they’re your’s and not borrowed from a taller “girl”.

Oh Tania…….I just love you girl!! I happen to love your outfit today…looks soooo comfy! I have to get me a T from Covered Perfectly, and see just how wonderful they are. Yesterday you inspired me to order the boyfriend jacket from Glamour Farms, I can’t wait to get it and try it on!! Everyday you inspire me, to be a Jesus lovin fashionista, and I just love your girlfriends. If I am ever in your neck of the woods I’m going to look you up!!
I also think that your daughter is beautiful, reminds me so much of my daughter, Brooke, 26 years old…strong, beautiful, independent and a go-getter!! These young women are going to change the world!! I don’t think they would have ended up like they are without a strong and wonderful momma in their lives!! The t from covered perfectly is really nice, but be aware it has spandex or some type material in it that makes it more form fitting.
I have to agree with your assessment of this outfit. It’s bland. You once mentioned in the blog that you just go into your closet in the morning and put things together. I thought, “Wow. I have to plan the night before.” I usually don’t have time in the morning for editing and if something doesn’t work, I won’t feel “together” all day. I have had those mornings where I was throwing around things and making 5 or 6 changes. Stress and messed up hair! Even this morning an outfit I planned to wear for Bible study, looked good on the hangers but I had to swap out the sweater for a blazer when I went to wear it. I thought you would love it because I wore my cobalt jeans, navy top, and my navy and white striped blazer with oversize double strand pearls. Thanks for sharing what was just “okay” because we all have days like that. Maybe that outfit would work if you wore a bright colored top.

Sometimes it’s not about how the outfit looks but how it makes you feel. If you didn’t feel put together, then nothing we say will help much. I like it. Maybe you’d feel better if you had the same sweater with it, but in yellow, pink or red? Hmmmm….just thinking.

Mine went away to dance camp, by herself, after 5th grade. I’d never have gone without at least one friend. But she went every summer after, all through high school. A couple of times, some other dance friends went, mostly not though. I love how much more independent she is than I every could be. I always thought she’d fly far away for college, but she chose to follow her brother to Baylor. Sic ’em!
You know, I love this blog. I love the fact that you didn’t feel “together” today. It gives me hope. I think I would choose houndstooth for pants with the tops you have or a jean vest with the pants. But this is only me. The beauty of fashion and confidence is that they can shore each other up. Since you seem to have plenty of confidence, the outfit works fine.
My 31 yr old daughter lives in St. Louis and I’m in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I hate being so far away. I just spent a week with her and miss her like crazy. I think many of us are in the same boat. We love having strong independent daughters; we just want to see them more often. ?

Thanks for sharing! – – Fantasy: I am your stylist today, and you are my long, lean chic model. Okay, we start with the comfy linen striped pants here. Let’s add either a navy or white basic round neck tee shirt, then a white nautical looking hip-length anorak type jacket w/drawstrings at neck & waist, and let’s roll the cuffs up. For shoes, let’s pick a pair of high leather vamp, peep toe, block heel leather sling back sandals. Now, either a small shoulder/cross body leather bag or your pretty large cobalt tote. For accessories, let’s try lots of thin wire bangles on your wrists, and a large gold chunky (maybe filigree) ring. We can add long plain chain necklaces, maybe a tiny pendant for some shine, or just leave that off. Gold studs or tiny gold hoop earrings can be added (do we have any little bitty seashells or anchors? No? Plain studs then), with one side of your hair tucked back for extra sass. Add big round black sunnies, that great smile, and you are set, Doll! (now, that was fun! lol).

Beautiful mom and daughter! Love the pants……actually, I have these exact same pants from Old Navy, but I just haven’t worn them yet. I plan to wear them with a white T-Shirt like you, but I think I will add a jean jacket. I also like a little heal when I wear a full pant like this as it tends to make me look a little taller as I am on the short side.

Welcome to my blog! I am constantly amazed at what our young daughters can, and will, do by there selves. I don’t even like to go to a restaurant by myself.
I love the song! Makes me teary eyed as my baby girl will be leaving for college in the fall and I already miss her! Like yours, my baby girl is the opposite of who I was at her age…I was shy and never went anywhere unless I knew someone so no summer camps and I stayed close to home for college…moving across the US for my boyfriend (now husband of 22 years) was almost impossible. My baby girl went to summer camp 4 years in a row, not knowing a soul. She’s going to college a few states away and it kills me that I won’t see her everyday or at least weekly! I’ve been a stay at home mom since the day she was born so my life without her here is hard to imagine…BUT we’ll both be fine as we both start our new chapters. So, is your daughter still living in Alaska? Wow…just wow!! Your outfit looks comfy, which is a must for days when we feel off!

What an awesome analogy, chicken and dumplings…I couldn’t agree with you more on that dish and I am from the south too! Daughters are wonderful and the older they get the more they get like us ; ) One of mine worked as a CRM at Nordstrom for 10 years. I also have a 28 year old daughter. She is like me in many ways but she is definitely her own person. She has a wonderful eye for style and color. I am always getting her advice on decor. As far as your outfit goes I really like everything but the slacks, although I think you look great in evrything you wear. It’s snowing in southeast Virginia today. Don’t know what happened to Spring ?

It looks great. With your personaltiy you can sell anything. If you put on a Sugar Sack with a few pieces of jewellery, a pair of hot shoes & bag, you’d still make it look chic. BTW your daughter looks gorgeous.

I think your outfit looks amazing on you. 🙂 I, too, lived in Alaska. I was in Anchorage for 3 years. I had always lived here in NC, and was never more than 20 minutes from my mom. She was devastated when I moved. It was beautiful, at first, but I decided to come back home after three years. I am sure you are so very proud to have raised such an independent young lady. I was not blessed with children until my “advanced maternal age years”, but I am blessed with a high-spirited 7 year old now. She keeps me on my toes, for sure. 🙂 Have a great day.
It s a beautiful place, that is for sure. I just wish she was a little closer. I wouldn’t mind (at least not a whole lot) if she was 5 or 6 hours away, but it takes me between 16-20 hours to get to her by the time I drive to the airport, flying time, and layovers. That is just a little tooooo far!
I’m also proud of my strong independent daughters. However, I was also bewildered when my oldest headed off with her backpack at 22, for a world trip. She was away for 14 months and I really missed her! I like the top part of the outfit, but the pants not so much. They are not as stylish as many of your other outfits. As for your outfit. We all have our misses. I love the top, and sweater. But I’m not crazy about the pants. The look really comfy, but they remind me of the men’s bottoms they give at the hospital.
This, however, would be a comfy outfit for hanging out inside the house on a rainy day.
