I can’t remember who it was, but one of you asked me to do a post on no-show underwear. So, can we talk about underwear for a minute? Because at this stage of life, I have officially lost patience with anything that pinches, rolls, rides up, or requires adjusting every time I stand up.

I want underwear that I can put on in the morning and forget about for the rest of the day. That doesn’t sound like too much to ask, does it?

And I have one pair that I can speak about from a LOT of experience.

Everyday Seamless Underwear That Doesn’t Show

Quince Second Skin Brief

Sometimes you don’t want smoothing, shaping, sculpting, lifting, or anything else ending in “ing.” You just want comfortable underwear. Lol!

The Quince Second Skin Brief is a simple no-show option for everyday wear. I like this type of lightweight brief under knit pants, dresses, and thinner fabrics where a traditional elastic leg opening might show.

Quince has become one of the retailers I check often because they tend to offer nice basics without some of the higher price tags.

Talbots Invisible Comfort High-Leg Brief

If regular briefs tend to bind around the top of your legs, a high-leg cut may be worth trying. This Talbots High-Leg Brief gives you plenty of coverage through the back while the higher-cut leg makes it a little less bulky underneath pants and skirts.

That combination can be especially helpful under slimmer pants where you want coverage without creating another line underneath your clothes.

SPANXsmooth Fit-To-You Supima Cotton Brief

Not everyone loves the feel of microfiber underwear, especially when it’s hot outside. If you prefer cotton, this SPANX Fit-To-You Supima Cotton Brief gives you the softness of Supima cotton along with a smooth fit.

This is much more of an everyday underwear option than serious shapewear, and I think there’s an important difference. We don’t need our underwear trying to rearrange our internal organs every Tuesday morning. Lol!

I would look at a bikini style like this under shorts, casual pants, or other outfits where a high waistband isn’t necessary.

And that brings me to one of my biggest underwear requirements. If I’m thinking about my panties at 2:00 in the afternoon, something has gone terribly wrong.

Just remember, shapewear should fit. Please don’t size down thinking you’ll get twice the smoothing. Usually, you just get twice the misery.

Affordable No-Show Underwear Options

If visible panty lines are your main concern, Lightweight Microfiber Underwear can be handy to keep specifically for thinner clothing.

This is the type of underwear I’d try underneath lightweight trousers, knit dresses, skirts, or other fabrics that seem determined to show every single thing underneath them. Because nothing ruins the back of a cute pair of pants faster than your underwear drawing its own little map underneath. Lol!

Lightweight fabrics can be a little less forgiving, too. If you wear the cool, lightweight pants I shared for hot weather, this is exactly when seamless underwear comes in handy. Linen blends, thinner trousers, and lighter colors tend to show more underneath, so I pay much more attention to both the cut and color of my underwear.

The FINETOO Seamless Invisible Underwear is another budget-friendly option for creating a smoother look underneath clothing. I like the idea of having a few inexpensive no-show pairs in your drawer for leggings, thinner trousers, and fitted dresses.

How I Choose Comfortable Underwear Now

My underwear priorities have definitely changed over the years. These days, here’s what matters most to me.

A Waistband That Doesn’t Dig

If the waistband leaves a deep indentation by lunchtime, I don’t care what size the tag says. I’m going up a size.

Nobody sees the tag, and nobody is handing out trophies because you squeezed yourself into a medium.

Enough Coverage

This is very personal. Some women love bikinis. Others want a full brief. Some of us like boyshorts.

Choose the coverage that stays in place on YOUR body instead of buying whatever style someone says you’re supposed to wear.

Smooth Edges

If I’m wearing fitted pants, white jeans, a knit dress, or lightweight trousers, I look for seamless or smooth-cut edges.

Sometimes eliminating the thick elastic around the leg opening is enough to make your clothes hang much better.

This matters even more with pull-on pants because many of those styles have smooth, stretchy fabrics that can show every little line underneath. I love the comfort of pull-on pants, but I definitely don’t want my underwear stealing the show from behind. Lol!

The Right Amount of Compression

This may be the biggest one. Everyday underwear and shapewear are not the same thing.

For an ordinary day, I usually want comfort. If I’m wearing something fitted and want a smoother look, then I might choose light or moderate shaping.

And if I have to perform gymnastics to get into a pair of shapewear, it had better make me look 20 pounds thinner by the time I finally get it on. Lol!

Do You Need Different Underwear for Different Clothes?

I think so. You certainly don’t need a drawer overflowing with every possible panty known to mankind, but I like having a few different options:

• Comfortable everyday underwear
• No-show underwear for fitted pants and dresses
• A higher-rise pair for high-waisted clothing
• Smoothing underwear or shapewear when I want a little more support
• Boyshorts or shorts when I want extra coverage underneath a dress
• Leakproof underwear if bladder leakage is a concern

Once you know which styles work for your body and your wardrobe, life gets a whole lot easier. And please don’t be embarrassed if bladder leakage is one of the reasons you’re shopping.

I bought my first leakproof panties because I was afraid a coughing spell would catch me in the middle of an errand. Six years later, I’m still wearing them for an entirely different reason.

That’s the funny thing about finding something that really works. Sometimes it solves a problem you weren’t even shopping for.

At this point in life, I want underwear that behaves itself, stays where it belongs, and lets me wear my clothes without worrying about what’s happening underneath them.

Truly, the standards are not that high. Lol!
