NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY
Today, February 2nd is National Wear Red Day. Here is the dilemma for a blogger, we can’t wear the outfit and post the outfit at the same time. Lol! I have actually run into people around town and they say, “that isn’t what you wore on the blog today.” So, here is a spoiler alert for you, I am NEVER wearing what is on the blog on that day! Lol!!! I figure most of you have already figured that one out. I do want to wear red today, you might see those pictures next week sometime, but I didn’t have any “new” pictures of me in red to talk about. Instead, I decided to look back through my archives and see what red outfits that I could come up with.
National Wear Red day is not about the outfit, it is about the cause. Here is what I found on the goredforwomen.org website.
Why Go Red? Cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kill approximately one woman every 80 seconds. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health. That’s why this year we are asking that you wear red on National Wear Red Day® and Donate to Go Red For Woman. By doing so you help support educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.
Go Red For Women is a movement that starts with you. Lead by example and make the time to “Know Your Numbers.” It’s knowledge that could save your life. Five numbers, that all women should know to take control of their heart health are: Total Cholesterol, HDL (good) Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and Body Mass Index (BMI). Knowing these numbers can help women and their healthcare provider determine their risk for developing cardiovascular diseases. It’s time for all women to learn the most critical numbers in their life — their hearts depend on it.
I was shocked when I began to read the statics about women and heart disease. I had thought that Heart disease was a disease that affected mostly men. WRONG!!! Did you know that 1 in 3 women will die from heart disease and stroke! That is 1 in 3! I looked around today at work at the 4 of us ladies working there. One of us has already had open heart surgery. ?
I know this is not my normal type post but I thought it was something worth highlighting. If you are interested in any of the outfits above I am going to link to that post so that you can go back and see where the clothing was purchased.

Those outfits are all stunning, Tania! You are just so beautiful and SO good at putting everything together! I hardly ever wear red but you inspire me! I especially love Candy and Cupid, and Happy Valentines Day! It seems everyone of your readers has been affected by heart issues, including me. Last year I was unable to sleep for about 2 months. Everytime I laid down I could not breathe and thought I was having asthma attacks so I’d get up and use my inhaler which didn’t help. I finally went to the Dr. and found out I had arrythmia. I’ve been on heart medication since, as well as taking a baby aspirin and fish oil everyday! I walk my dogs everyday and try to eat alot of green veggies. But there is more I could do to lose weight and eat less carbs and Mexican food which is a real struggle for me!
In 2004 I had to have open heart surgery due to a leaky valve and an aneurysm. It was a frightening experience and I’m thankful for my doctors! I am a huge supporter of women’s heart health! As a matter of fact, I am wearing my red dress pin today.
Red is one of my favorite colors. Looks fantastic on you! My nephew had a massive heart attack at 34. He said he just felt weird and thought he needed to go to the emergency room. He really wasn’t feeling much pain, he just knew something wasn’t right. Thank God he did! I have a friend who called the ambulance because she thought she was having heart attack, they came, said they didn’t think she was and left. 15 minutes later a neighbor who was a nurse came by and said yes, you are having a heart attack! Called the ambulance back and she had triple by pass on Monday. Doing great now. Women and men can have different symptoms. Get your numbers checked!
I love all the outfits you put together for red! Outfit 2 would be my choice but it was difficult to choose. Heart disease runs in my family. I recently lost my father to congestive heart failure. Both my grandmothers died from strokes. Women need to be watchful as many people don’t think of heart disease or heart attacks with women, only men, so many women ignore the symptoms. Thank you for posting the information.
Thank you, love the red outfits! We need to take care of ourselves and encourage other women we love to do the same.
My mother died of a heart attack at 76. The night before she died she complained of nausea and exhaustion, not typically what you think of with heart problems. Not one to complain, she made some soup and went to bed. Unfortunately she died before she could seek medical attention.
A good reminder on the importance of heart health!
You rock red! I love the bold colour of number 1 but I want the outfit in number 5. This is a smashing classic I would never tire of.
Red is great on you! Truer words indeed! women manifest heart disease much differently than men – sustained jaw and neck pain, indigestion, back pain, do not ignore these and women do because we are used to plow thru discomforts and keep on going. Talk to your doctors about having a calcium score scan. It takes 5 minutes and many insurance companies don’t cover it but is the best $200.00 you will ever spend. This measures calcification plaques in your arteries and is totally non-invasive so no fears! It can be a great heads up since plaques that dislodge can move up and block arteries. Thanks Tania for the awareness, and just like with men being skinny or a vegan does not necessarily save you. Know your family history, genetics count!❤️❤️❤️
My father is /was larger than life…He also smoked 4 packs of cigarettes per day. Growing up in Danville, VA, he worked the tobacco farms as a kid. My dad passed suddenly at the age of 70 after taking care of his parents in their last years. So much for his “enjoying retirement”.. It helped me get those magical tests even though I do not smoke. And for my corps, I always have National Wear Red Day. I have witnessed so many “cardiac events” while we stress others. Thank you Tania for reminding us about the silent signals as women we have! I have a friend who had a heart attack at 32. So thank you for reminding us we are worth taking care of ourselves! Laura
Hi Tania! Love outfit #1! I will be having open heart surgery on Tuesday February 6th to replace my bicuspid aortic valve. I will definitely be wearing red today. Please hold me up in prayer. I believe that we have a good good Father and He loves us! Love your blog and everything you wear but especially love that you are a woman of faith and are not afraid to share It! May He continue to bless you and use you through your blog!
Blessings!
