50 IS NOT OLD | LIVING MY BEST LIFE | FASHION OVER 40Let me start this post by saying that I am “normally” a very easy going person. It takes a lot to rile my feathers, and I take kidding and ribbing well. In fact, my entire family is on the side of smarty comments, instead of saying something normal. That is our way of playing, and we never get mad at each other. I have to laugh because my mother is afraid to leave comments on my blog, she thinks that you gurls won’t understand our crazy humor. Lol! But, today, I was not in the mood to be poked at….
50 IS NOT OLD | LIVING MY BEST LIFE | FASHION OVER 40You know that I have had this stupid cough for going on a month. I recently started taking a steroid pill, and it seems to be working. I am crossing my fingers that I am back to normal soon. But, I might tend to get a little testy when I take steroids, and Joe might have been on the receiving end. He called me today, and I said, “I am going to go get a peach slush while I am out shopping,” and then he said, “you look like you need a peach slushie.” Usually, that would roll right off my back, and I would laugh as I went and got my drink. NOT TODAY! Instead, I hung up on him. Then, later that afternoon, he called and (I have already forgotten what he said) …..but, I hung up on him again. He came to the house and said, “did you just hang up on me twice today?” You could see the laughter behind his eyes. He knows that is out of character for me, and he also knows that I am on steroids. I find it humorous now, but at the time he got an earful. That made him laugh even harder. Lol!
50 IS NOT OLD | LIVING MY BEST LIFE | FASHION OVER 40Y’all, I love this shirt! Isn’t it adorable? The best part about this shirt is the fact that it is not mine. My daughter ordered this off of Etsy and accidentally shipped it to my house. Haha! I couldn’t wait to put it on and send her a picture. Then, I liked it so much that I thought you ladies might like to see it also. It is soft and seems to be a good quality shirt. I am wearing a size large in the color Heather Maroon. Here is the link to the shirt.
50 IS NOT OLD | LIVING MY BEST LIFE | FASHION OVER 40I haven’t worn my oversized Nika earrings in a while. I wanted to wear something in silver and something that would catch your eye. Did these accomplish that? These are very lightweight leather earrings, and they are the same on both sides. My necklace is a custom piece that I made. You can order either bracelets or necklaces, and have them engraved with symbols or letters. I chose the silver bar necklace with fonts, and I love how it turned out. I think these would make great Christmas presents since they are personalized. I also added a large silver link bracelet on an elastic cord. It is the Madijeanne, and here is the link.
50 IS NOT OLD | LIVING MY BEST LIFE | FASHION OVER 40Yes, I am wearing white after Labor Day! I saw someone comment on Facebook this morning that they can’t bring themselves to wear white now. They said their mother had preached that to them as a child, and they still couldn’t break the habit. My mother told me that when I was a child also, but she also dressed me in matchy-matchy polyester outfits. Lol!

  1. Sorry to hear your cough is still hanging on. One time when I just could not get rid of bronchitis even with medicine from the doctor, a friend told me about echanacea goldenseal. I didn’t really think it would do much good but was desperate enough to try just about anything. After being sick for a month it cleared up with this stuff and I use it at the first signs now and have managed to keep it away.

Thanks so much. I will be checking that out right away!!!

    • These lingering coughs wear you out and are so annoying! Hope you are on the mend soon!

      • Tania Reply

You are so right, Janet. It is crazy how a simple cough has worn me out!

    • Tania!! Haha This is my favorite outfit ever!! Especially after Labor Day!! I’m a tee shirt and white jeans girl most of the summer and through the early Fall!! I love Fallish tops, Jean jacket, cardigans with white jeans through the transitional time, too!! I may have to buy this t-shirt you’re wearing! I love it.
Hope your cough gets better.. Steroids are pretty evil?
Have a wonderful day! Love your post even though I don’t comment very often .

I am glad to see I have a fashion-sister! Thanks for following, even if you don’t comment “all” the time. Lol!

    • Connie Johnson Reply

Love your outfit today! You should keep the shirt. It looks great on you. Hope you feel better soon.

      • Tania Reply

I will have to buy myself one in a different color. She is already wanting hers back. Lol!

  2. The decision to wear white after Labor Day seems to be the new modern day fashion dilemma. I recently read an article about why that fashion rule was set in place to begin with and it was one of the ways snooty rich women used to distinguish “old money” from “new money”. It was ingrained in me from childhood, too, but since I am “no money” I will probably be breaking that rule this fall, lol.

    • Tania Reply

Valerie, I have read articles that explained the no white after Labor Day rule also. It was a way to distinguish the upper crust from the nobodys. I am sure that most people are not aware of the reason behind the rule, and probably only do it because Mom said so. Lol!

      • My grandma was a farmer and always said if you got lost or injured outside in the winter and needed help then they wouldn’t be able to find you in the snow if you were wearing white. Now that makes sense!

        • Tania Reply

Haha. Note to self, “don’t dress head to toe in white when it snows.” Lol!

  3. Anytime I’m on steroids my hubby hides the knives! I totally get the mood.

I am also a ‘no white after Labor Day’. I may try to break that since it’s still 80. Just not sure I can get past my mom and her finger wagging ?? (it’s all in my head)

    • Tania Reply

I’ll have to tell Joe to take away the knives. Lol! Shari, just remember this…was your mom just giving you the same advice that her mom gave her? Just because a rule was a rule YEARS ago, doesn’t make it applicable now. Wear the white and feel like a rebel!

  4. Maybe this will make you feel better……many years ago I broke one of my ribs from coughing like you have been!!!! That was one of the most painful things I’ve ever gone through. My doctor gave me a steroid shot and I had to wear a brace for 6 weeks!!! I could hard breathe or move it hurt so bad. Now…..feel better?! ??? Darling tee shirt too. I think you should just keep it!! ?

    • Tania Reply

Oh NO!!! I am so sorry that happened to you. I most certainly do not want that to happen. I guess taking my steroid pills will continue for a few more days. Y’all say a prayer for Joe. Lol!

    • Tania Reply

I love the shirt also! I may have to get me one since I know my daughter will take this one away from me.

  5. you look so casual yet put together, love it, get some rest, hope you are well soon

  6. Love the shirt! I too was taught not to wear white after Labor Day, and I can’t bring myself to do it. However, we usually go on vacation in September, often a cruise, and I will wear white in that situation. I guess I feel like rules don’t apply in the Caribbean, lol! Have a great day, feel better!

    • Tania Reply

Beth, it is crazy the rules that we keep in our head from long ago. The first time that I wore white after Labor Day, I expected the fashion police to jump out of the bushes. Lol!

  7. We love you Tania!! Joe better be nice to you!! He could never find another person who is as beautiful as you are- inside and out!! The joy you have radiates through you!! You have Ben a blessing to me- and at almost 60(!!) have helped me to love my body and dress ina fun and flattering way!!❤️❤️?

    • Tania Reply

Awww, thanks, Shelley. But, you better remember poor Joe in your prayers as I continue with my steroid medicine. Lol! As I pulled out of the driveway, I might have screamed out the car window, “blog-worthy.” I could tell he was thrilled. HAHAHA!

I am wearing white pants today too! (don’t tell my momma!) haha

    • Tania Reply

I am so proud of you, Michele!!! You are sooo fashion-forward!

  9. DEANNE HOPE Reply

Love the shirt!! I wore white pants yesterday just because my Moma always said not to. 🙂 Oh and because I got them on sale later in the year so now I am going to wear them. 🙂
    Hope you feel better soon.

    • Tania Reply

Deanne, I forgot to mention that now is the perfect time to buy white jeans and pants. The sizes are usually limited, but you can get some great buys at this time of year.

  10. I love that necklace!! It would make a wonderful gift.
    Shirt = ??
My mom always said not to wear white shoes after Labor Day and since we never had white skirts, shorts, or pants, it was not an issue. My philosophy is to wear what I want and when.

  11. I don’t comment often but love the blog and just had to say hope you feel better soon.

    • Tania Reply

Awww, thanks, Jodi! I don’t feel too bad, I just keep coughing. ?

  12. The shirt is so darn cute! So is your hair! Is it cut asymmetrically now? Sometimes you have it tucked behind your ear and I can’t tell for sure. It’s darling regardless! I thought you needed to hear another funny story. My sister-in-law had something she needed to return via snail mail. She boxed it up, addressed it, and shipped it off. Several days later, the box showed up at her house! She was confused and then realized that she had inadvertently put her own address as not only the return address, but also as the shipping address! We laughed so hard!!! Tell Joe to be nice to you and cut you some slack right now. 😉

    • Tania Reply

My hair is cut asymmetrical right now. It will show more when I go back for my next cut since I’ll trim the short side, but let the longer side continue to grow. BTW, tell your sister-in-law that she is not the only one who has done that. Just saying…

Thanks for your smiles and humor! Sharing your families sense of humor was a fun way to get my day off with a smile. I also noticed your outfit, by the way. Love white jeans. I can’t seem to find a pair that doesn’t show my underwear line. So I haven’t bought any. But they would be so versatile! Plus now that I have no period anymore ( hallelujah !) I don’t have to worry about that either. White pants are definitely on my try to find list.

    • Tania Reply

When I go shopping for white pants or jeans, I put my hand on the inside to see if I can see my hand through the material. If I can see my hand, the pants stay in the store.

    • Tania Reply

It is adorable. You should have seen Ashleigh’s reply when I sent her my photo. Lol!

  14. Aww I hope your cough goes away soon, I have the same thing going on. Been lingering for a few weeks now. Can you tell me what lipstick you have on in this photo? I love it!! Feel better Tania!

    • Tania Reply

Cindee, I am wearing Infallible by Loreal in the shade Candy Man. It is chocolate scented, so fair warning. Lol! Then, I applied Huda Angelic Lip Strobe as a gloss in the center.

  15. Well, I guess I am a fashion faux-pas! I don’t wear white shoes after Labor Day, but I will wear my favorite white jeans with a top or sweater in a fall color…browns, olives, burgundy. Cute shirt too! I hope you feel better. Those lingering coughs are the pits!

    • Tania Reply

I guess you are half and half, Gina. I don’t wear white shoes very often, even in the summer. I am not a big fan for some reason.

    • Tania Reply

Lol! Don’t be getting any bright ideas. I might be getting those for my RF team for Christmas!!!

  16. I had to take them once. I had out bursts of bad temper but they lightened my hair. I swear. My hair looked shinier. Hang in there. Most things are temporary we worry so much about.
I love white jeans and nothing is prettier to me than red chunky sweater, white jeans and a tan purse and boots. My favorite winter outfit.

    • Tania Reply

I can handle the Predisone if Joe can. Lol! I think the outfits you described are perfect!

  17. Hi Tania!

New here and love your site! Super cute T-shirt too. Hoping the steroids have kicked your cough! Last time I took those I vibrated for 48 hours! Couldn’t sleep at all but they certainly helped. Hope your results are the same.

    • Tania Reply

Jo, I am so glad that you found my blog. You will have to read what I wrote for tomorrow. I think it will sound like your experience. Lol!

  18. I think the “no white after Labor Day” is antiquated?A person should wear what they like whenever they want?Get well soon!

  19. Super cute outfit and you must either keep the shirt or order another! I was also going to put my favourite white jeans away but now after reading these comments, I believe I’ll keep them handy a little while longer!?

  20. Love reading your posts & I especially like to read about you & your husband Joe & your conversations with him when he’s gotten himself in trouble with you??

I would love to hear from YOU!
