IS THERE SOMETHING THAT YOU REFUSE TO WEAR

Happy Thursday, everyone! Most of you know that I love almost all clothing. I believe in trying out new trends and styles because you never know when something is going to look better on than you think. But, when my friend Jennifer reached out to me about doing a post about something that we would never wear, I realized that there were a few things that I still refused to try.

So, today, Jennifer, Cindy, and I are all styling a one-shoulder look. This look is something that I’ve not styled before, even though I love off the shoulder and cold-shoulder tops. One-shoulder tops have always reminded me of watching Tarzan swing through the trees, and I just couldn’t shake that image. 😝

HOWEVER, the other day, I was looking at the Lilly Pulitzer website, and this gorgeous dress caught my eye. When I got the message from Jennifer, I immediately thought of this dress and knew that it would be perfect. I put it on to take photos, and then I finally got up my courage to go and ask my hubby for his feedback. He said that he thought it looked great and that he loved it. I told him that I never wore one-shoulder tops, and he said to me that I should start. WHAT?!?

This dress looked so pretty and elegant that I decided to give it the works with my jewelry. I took advantage of the Lilly sale the other day and bought some jewelry. This Kismet Pearl stretch bracelet was one of the items that I purchased, but since it was on sale, it has sold out. I did find ONE on eBay, and I’ll link it here, but you know that it won’t last long. Lol! At least the rest of my jewelry is available. The Hilty gold hoop earrings have the cutest pearl dangles, and I love the way that they sway when you walk. They are quite the statement piece but are lightweight to wear.

The long necklace is the Beckett statement link necklace and the Beckett link bracelet put together. Instead of wearing them separately, I decided to combine them for a longer length necklace. This set was something else that I resisted ordering because I thought that it would be too big and look like a Mr. T chainset. But, I LOVE it, and I wear it all of the time now. And, the last piece of jewelry that I have on is the Fallyn link cuff bracelet. I’ve had this bracelet for a while, and I love it.

I admit that a back view is not a look that I love showing. Lol! It is a view that I don’t see often, so I didn’t think that you would need to see it either. Lol! For sizing references, I am 5’6″ tall, and I usually weigh anywhere between 155 and 160. I typically wear a size 12 in a dress, so I ordered the large, and it fits me perfectly.

Because I know that a lot of you will want to know about a strapless bra, I’ll let you in on a secret. I don’t have one on! 😳 This dress comes with padding in that area, so for me, I didn’t need to add anything additional. Most of the time, I usually wear Hollywood Fashion secrets silicone coverups, and they work great for me. However, a regular strapless bra should work with this dress.

Okay, I made you wait long enough for details on the dress. It is the Mooney One-Shoulder maxi dress, and it is perfect for the summer. No one does summer prints quite like Lilly, and you can’t go wrong with their clothing. The dress has a ruched waistband, and it ends with a tiered ruffle at the midi-length hem. I was afraid of the waistband, but the dress flares out some to help create a thinner looking waist. The dress is a lightweight rayon spandex jersey fabric, and it is machine washable in cold water on delicate. It is truly gorgeous in person.

I was wondering what it was that you wouldn’t wear when I read the title of your blog. My first thought was a swimsuit. Have you thought about modeling different swimsuits?
I love the Lily; you look great!

I cannot at age 65 imagine myself wearing stone washed or ripped jeans. My days of any type heel are well over, mostly because I am 5’10”.
Comfort is key nowadays, but love dressing nicely to give myself a daily boost during social distancing.

    Hi Tania
First of all thank you for joining us! I have to say this was a look I loved when I was younger and it looks fabulous on you. I tend to look ridiculous in pattern and ruffles but if I looked as darling as you I would go for it! So summery and fresh!!

I don’t wear anything strapless. I’ve never found a strapless bra comfortable and find it unattractive on others tugging and pulling on them. I like your dress but wouldn’t work for me. I would look for a sleeveless wrap dress in those colors for me.

I do wear strapless clothing, but I agree about the tugging and pulling. I don’t have to worry about that since I use the silicone coverups.

I won’t wear anything off my shoulders. My arms sag too much. I don’t wear sleeveless. So that’s rules out the one shoulder. I love the pretty colors in this dress but not the style. Gathered at the waist adds more volume to my middle as well. Not a fan.

Debby, I know that a lot of women don’t wear sleeveless as they age. I love sleeveless clothing, especially since I can wear it under a sweater or jacket without having the arms bunch up.

I do not wear button down shirts. They never fit right. If they fit across the bust, then the shoulders are huge. They always gap across the bust if buttoned& I would have to pin them. Always pulling on them & so uncomfortable so decided to get rid of them. I do have 2 that I only wear unbuttoned over a tee.
The dress looks very nice & cool on you.

I don’t wear a lot of button-down shirts, but that is mainly because they are not as soft as other tops. I use Hollywood Fashion Tape to hold the gaps closed though, and that works wonders.

Actually, the one-shoulder is the one things I refuse to wear. Like you say, the whole bra dilemma is what stops me. I also try to avoid anything that might require use of a strapless bra. I own one, but I hate wearing it. And I know that people nowadays don’t seem to care if their bra shows, but for me, it’s a big deal. I prefer to keep it under wraps!

It looks fine for going out, etc. The colors are gorgeous. The other day one of the morning anchors on a major Dallas TV station had on a one-shoulder dress or top on air. I did not think it was a good professional look. But for socializing, a wedding, etc., I think it is fine.

One thing I have tried on and hate on myself and everyone I have seen them on are the wide leg crops. Just don’t like the look. It makes me look shorter than I am!

To me, the only way to make the wide leg crops look good is with heels or sneakers. I’m not sure why I like the look with sneakers, but I think it is adorable.

My list of never ever wear items:
Anything ripped, torn, distressed or tattered. Especially shorts and jeans because the loose threads tickle me!

Cold shoulder tops. They are too immodest for me.

Anything that requires a strapless bra. Also on the bra front — any bra without underwires that rides up under the girls and emphasizes their envelope flap quality.

Swim suits at 72 aren’t happening here.

Shorts. A combo of horrific veins and scars make me feel so self conscious I can’t be comfy and I won’t wear them even home alone.

Anything that is undignified or revealing and especially clingy at the waistline that shows my muffin top spare tire area.

Certain shoes that just plain hurt my feet. But that’s not a stylistic issue.

    Well you asked LOL!!

I wouldn’t wear shorts now but I’ve never worn them much except in my twenties. I prefer nice lightweight cotton pants with a drawstring for summer. I’m extremely modest when it comes to showing skin. Just my raising.
