Can you believe that Labor Day is this weekend? Where did this year go? Where I live, I’ve hardly had any summer since it has been so cool and rainy. I know a lot of us grew up believing that once Labor Day rolls around, the white jeans are put away until after Memorial Day. I’m here today to set you free from the past and drag you into modern times by showing you how to wear white jeans for fall and winter.

My Favorite Qualities in White Jeans for Women

Before we talk about HOW to style white jeans, we should talk about WHAT white jeans we should wear. I have tried out many pairs of white jeans (a pro of being a fashion blogger, haha!) over the years in every style possible. My main requirement for a pair of white jeans is that they aren’t see-through! I combat this mainly by wearing nude underwear and looking for pants made of high-quality materials. I also love finding pants that help to repel stains since white jeans seem to be a magnet for lipstick stains and spilled coffee like these made with no-stain fabric from Chicos. The jeans I’m wearing in all the outfits are from this fabric, and I’ve worn them all summer long with no issues.

How To Wear White Jeans For Fall And Winter – Neutral Colors

One of the easiest ways to wear white jeans for fall and winter has to do with the colors you choose to pair with them. Wearing your white jeans with traditional fall colors, like this Saffron colored long sweater, keeps your outfit looking seasonal.

Neutral colors look fabulous when paired with white. Beige and white is one of my favorite combinations because it looks so chic and classy. You can see me wearing this combination last winter here.

The layering Shell sweater is the perfect neutral color, and it is perfect for wearing with white jeans. I’ll wear this shell in the summer with shorts and chinos, and I never put away my shell or tanks in the winter. I ordered a large, but I think the medium would have fit better. The shell was too big for me, especially under the arms.

How To Wear White Jeans For Fall And Winter – Denim Jacket

If you don’t already own a denim jacket (or two, or three, or four), we can change that today! I wear a Denim Jacket all year long, yes, even in the summer. If I made a list of clothing that all women (no matter the age) should own, a denim jacket would be high on the list.

I paired the denim jacket with a Cotton-blend polo sweater in a gorgeous raffia color. It is perfect for wearing with white jeans, but I’ve also worn it with regular blue jeans and even a slip skirt. It is available in many colors, and I also bought the skyline blue version. Both of these sweaters can be worn in spring and summer, so you’ll get your money’s worth from them.

I have many denim jackets, but my favorite is one I bought from Amazon. You could have knocked me over with a feather because I wasn’t expecting to love this jacket. But it has plenty of stretch, so I’m comfortable, and it looks great with everything!

To bring fall colors into the outfit, I added a coffee colored Tote Bag Crossbody and Cognac Suede D’Orsay Flats. The tote is a great medium size and will hold lots of goodies for fall, like lip balm, tissues, cough drops, and even hand sanitizer. Fall is the season for colds, so keeping these items close by is smart.

Flats are taking the fashion industry by storm, and you’ll be seeing more and more of them (that are actually cute) in the stores. I’m a huge fan of the D’Orsay style, and the cognac flats by Steve Madden are perfect. There are several other colors available, including black and tan, which I already own.

How To Wear White Jeans For Fall And Winter – The Classics

Black and white…is there a more classic combination than that? When I’m going somewhere and can’t figure out what to wear, I always fall back on a black and white outfit. It is chic, timeless, and always looks put together and stylish.

This double-breasted Houndstooth Blazer is one that I’ve worn on repeat ever since it came in the mail. A double-breasted blazer is a classic piece, and the houndstooth print is one that is always in style.

My cousin teased me as a child about having big feet, so you rarely see me wearing black shoes. I’m afraid that it draws attention to my feet, so I usually stick with neutrals instead. However, I love the black D’Orsay Flats with this outfit, and I think my feet look just fine. Lol!

In case you haven’t already gotten the memo, large totes and handbags are in this year!!! I love a large handbag, so I’m thrilled to see these back in the good graces of the fashion industry. This Italian Leather Handwoven Tote is gorgeous and has plenty of room to carry everything you might need. The quality is great, and the leather smells and feels so luxurious.

How To Wear White Jeans For Fall And Winter – Casually

My favorite way to wear white jeans for fall and winter is anything casual. Since I don’t work outside the home, I spend a lot of my days around the house and don’t have to get all fancy. I love wearing white jeans with a tee, an oversized sweater, or a great chambray shirt.

This shirt checks off two of those lists since it is oversized and chambray. Like a denim jacket, a chambray shirt is a fall fashion essential item, and it looks great worn in many ways. I love pairing it with a sweater or cardigan, but one of my favorite ways to wear it is with a wool plaid blazer. Here are a couple of blazers the shirt would look fabulous with.

I love this large leather tote! It has a slight Western vibe, and I think it will look great with boots once the weather gets a little bit cooler. I was a little skeptical that the tote was going to be real leather since the price is pretty affordable, especially for such a nice bag. It is heavier and nicer than I thought it would be. There was no mistaking that it was leather the minute I opened the bag. One whiff and I knew for a fact that it was real. Lol!

I mentioned earlier in the post that I love wearing no-stain jeans and pants from Chico’s, and that is where this pair is from. These are the No-Stain White Girlfriend Ankle Jeans, and I sized up from a .5 to a 1 in them. I usually size up one size when wearing white jeans and pants because I don’t want them to be so tight that you can see through them. I could have easily worn my normal size .5 since the jeans are the girlfriend style and a little more relaxed than some.

Since my favorite way to wear white jeans for fall and winter is in a casual manner, I decided to style one more outfit for you. The look is the same as above; a shirt and a pair of jeans, but this shirt looks more dressy than the chambray shirt.

The Smocked Floral Shirt is a long-sleeved top that can be worn now in a lot of the country since it is lightweight. I would layer it with a denim jacket, a navy cardigan or blazer, or a cute varsity jacket this fall. This color is almost sold out in this top, but it shows inventory in the Vintage V-Neck T-Shirt in the same print.

My square Crossbody Bag is one I bought during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I love the size and feel of it. Some crossbody bags can be too small for my phone and wallet, but this one accommodates everything without any issues. The leather is soft and feels velvety, and my DIL has it in a tan color, which is just as nice.

This is another find that I didn’t think I would like, and I LOVE!!! The Soho Drench Mule has a black chain with the Kurt Geiger signature crystal-eyed eagle head that gives these shoes a look of luxury. The quilted leather is soft and cushy, and these shoes are a pair that you can wear now and later. Here is a better look at the flats so you can see the details better.

  2. Lynne Laslie says:

White slacks or jeans are perfect year round! For autumn, I love white jeans with a chambray shirt and a colorful neck scarf, especially in your favorite team colors! Ready for tailgating!

  3. Pam Bowling says:

I loved all the ways you styled white jeans for Fall and Winter. I actually wore a pair of white pants to work today. It was hot where I live, so I styled it a bit more toward the summer season. I look forward to trying a Fall look with white jeans later.
    Thanks for the great posts!!

  4. Need some white ankle jeans advise for a 60th anniversary @9/14 in NJ which is a 3 HR luncheon. I was going to wear black ankle pants & blazer, but my talbots outfit arrived and is not what I expected. so white ankle pants with navy blazer and tank with navy flats, would that work? I’m not 50 but 78 & size 6. Love your posts with more optional dressing!

    1. Sharon, that sounds like a great outfit. It is classic, and I love pairing a top and blazer in the same color. The only suggestion I might have is playing with the flats. If you have a neutral colored pair, that would help your legs look longer and not draw attention away from your face.

      1. thank you for that suggestion, I have a pair of beige suede flats with gold buckle from talbots too. purse gold or beige?wearing gold necklace& braclets would that work too?

        1. That sounds perfect. Put the outfit on, take a photo of yourself, and then decide. A mirror can be deceiving, but a photo shows how it really looks.

I am not sure how I got your message but I appreciate it and hope to receive more. Eldonna Shaw-Davis

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed my posts. I’m guessing that it was recommended to you by Google, and I’m happy you found my blog.

  6. Elizabeth says:

Love how you styled the white jeans, especially with shades of carmel/brown. Very cute Kurt Geiger mules!

  7. Would you please share your vegetable soup recipe?
    Thank you!

    1. Oh goodness, I’ll try to pay attention the next time I make it since there isn’t a real recipe.

  8. If you have a tummy, as I have , I never feel comfortable tucking my tops in or wear a belt. I would love to, but its really ugly. Also being a senior, senior, and short in height is what it is. Your opinion please. Your outfits are very attractive. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Bobby, I rarely do a full tuck. Tucking your shirt with a half tuck allows some of the fabric to hang out, which helps to cover the tummy. Also, buying blouson tops, or those with an empire waist can help to hide the tummy.

    2. ☝️ This! Exactly my personal thoughts but the reality is that your tummy is there regardless of what you wear and most people don’t really concern themselves with your body “imperfections”. I’m over 60 and just getting to the point where I want to be comfortable and not worry so much about what others think. (They’re thinking about what you think of them more I’ll bet!) Our Father loves us sooo much, even with a little tummy! I wonder if he even thinks we’re cute, like a little toddler. 🤔
Love the denim shirt with the white pants especially! I might even pair it with some great boots for Fall.🍁

  9. Ok- you have given me the courage to wear white after Labor Day! Definitely pairing my white jeans with a denim shirt and with the black/jacket combo that you modeled!

  10. Karen Riel says:

I live my white jeans and will be wearing them a lot this fall!

  11. sue koren says:

The smocked floral top is so pretty with the whitejeans!

  12. Thanks for the great looks for wearing white jeans after Labor Day. I have always been a little hesitant to wear white jeans after summer. But you have given me the courage to go for. Have a great day. CeCe

  13. Donna Ingalls says:

Great post. Love the chambray shirt. Looks very comfortable.
Who knew black shoes made your feet look bigger?

  14. Love the great ideas—-thanks! I will take my white jeans out of storage!

  15. Love the great ideas—-thanks!

  16. Mary Kinard says:

Thanks for this post! I love the jeans with the cardigan, the denim jacket, and the houndstooth blazer!

  17. Love the white jeans with denim jacket or chambray shirt. You make everything look great!

  18. I really liked the denim jacket with the white jeans. Very cute!

  19. Margaret H says:

Martha you rock, I have always admire you. Thanks you for showing how to wear white jeans.

  20. I’ve never worn white after Labor Day but you’ve given me courage. I’m going to try it this fall! 🤞

  21. Great ideas! It’s still hard for me to wear white in September but I’m crawling in that direction.
The chili looked delicious! Ever share your recipe? It really looks like a keeper!

  22. I’ve always worn a “winter” white after Labor Day, but you’ve convinced me that bright white can be worn just as easily with the right tops and accessories. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. I’m glad that you enjoyed this post, Laura! Thanks for commenting! 😊

  23. Kellie johnson says:

I love my white jeans. the pair you styled from chicos is my favorite. styling white jeans with a jean jacket is my go to look in the fall.

  24. I loved the white jeans ideas to extend them beyond summer.

  25. I’m glad you answered my question “to wear white jeans to Bible Study or not?” Technically it won’t quite be Labor Day when we attend since it is on the 3rd.
I have a new navy blue sweater that I hope it will not be the forecasted temperature of 100.
    Barb

  26. Love all the looks especially the brown sweater.

  27. Cheryll Sampson says:

It has been fallish here this week but to be clear n mid-90s again next week. I long for real fall.

  28. Linda White says:

Thank you for agreeing with me. White all year long and hope more people will do this. I especially love white pants and a black sweater in the winter with black ankle boots. But I haven’t worn them with a denim shirt but I will be this year. Thank you for all your fashion ideas!

  29. I love wearing white jeans. I don’t get to wear them as often as I like because I usually have a grandkid or 2 or 3 in tow, or I’m riding around with my husband in his dirty farm truck.

  30. Love your blog. All of the handbags that you talk about are leather or leather look. Around where I live Vera Wang and Vera Wang style bags are a big thing. Yet you never mention them. I’m wondering why. Thanks.

    1. Marin, do you mean Vera Bradley? I have styled those bags before, but I’m not a huge printed bag fan.

  31. Okay, you convinced me! Thanks for showing some ways to style them for fall.

  32. Glad all the old thoughts never wear white after Labor Day are gone. The first one you modeled with beige colors and white pants is a perfect transition.

  33. The first outfit on this post is the best, you look so classy in the white jeans and long sweater. Love the colors!
I live in Florida; we are so glad to have the temperatures cooling off; it was only 94 yesterday! Jackets won’t make an appearance for a while, unless in a Mall or restaurant, where the a.c. is set so low I freeze. hahha!

  34. okay, so my white jeans will stay in my closet for a couple more months.

  35. Ginger Hiller says:

I know that it’s okay to wear white after Labor Day, I will still pack my white jeans away for the fall and winter. I don’t wear a lot of neutral outfits and I have way too many pants in my closet to keep the white jeans hanging year round. The neutral outfits you put together are gorgeous! Regarding chili weather, while I like it, it does not like me at all, so I stay away from it.

  36. Love the leather bag!!!!

    Are you sharing chili recipe?

  37. The white jeans with the chambray shirt is my favorite!! Looks casual but very put together!

  38. Very cute outfits!! I will definately be wearing my white jeans after Labor Day! It’s been HOT in my area most of the summer so I’ve lived in summer dresses. I’m ready for cool weather to wear jeans and layer up😄

  39. Thank you all the ideas styling white jeans.
Since we moved to Florida 2 years ago, I am embracing white jeans all year long.
I do miss fall weather in Virginia where we used to live.
    Enjoy your chili, 😋 yum.

  40. I have never worn white jeans in the winter, but I guess at 72, it’s time I tried them!!

  41. thank you for this information because the weather here in Kansas City will continue to be Hot until the end of September and we need our White pants to keep us cooler.

  42. Karrie Knutson says:

I wore the same double breasted blazer yesterday with a navy blue t-shirt and white jeans. I love transitioning with this type of outfit.

  43. I absolutely love those mules! They are gorgeous. I love how black and white looks together. Great outfits.

  44. Penny Smith says:

Loved the featured mules but can’t justify the cost.

  45. Sarah Fister says:

It’s hard for me to wear white pants after Labor Day. After 58 years, it’s hard to change, but I just might after seeing how cute they can be with fall styles. Also, I can’t believe you didn’t give us the recipe for that delicious looking chilli! We need that receipe, please.

  46. After seeing these cute fall outfits, I may have to keep my white jeans out after Labor Day!

  47. Gina Luebke says:

Cute! The white pants with the chambray is my favorite!! Loving all of these though!
    Great post!!

    1. I can vouch for these white jeans! Just love them! And just maybe I’ll keep them in the closet for awhile.

Is there a chili recipe in our future? 😃

  48. Thank you for this post! I love white jeans and wear them all year long. You showed some wonderful ways to take them into fall. I’m really eyeing that brown braided tote. Thank you for opening our fashion horizons.

  49. Great post. Thanks for the recipe, it’s almost like mine minus the Tex Mex chili mix.

  50. I live in white during the summer, well before and well after! Ready for chili in spirit… and definitely ready for chili weather!

  51. I also love neutrals with white and I have a weakness for anything denim. I can’t wait to make a big pot of chili. I could live off of chili and soups. I would love your chili recipe if you don’t mind. 🙂

  52. I would loooove it if you shared your chili recipe!!

  53. Sheryl Kelton says:

Tanya, I think you should share your Dad’s chili recipe with us😊

  54. Jan Padgett says:

Where can I find the brown belt you’re wearing?
I love your blog! It’s entertaining and so informative, and thanks for the petite info!

    1. Jan, that one is old. I’ve looked for similar ones before, but I’ve not come across one yet.

  55. Where I live (Mississippi), it’s usually in the 90’s through September (and sometimes into October), so the summer clothes stay out a little longer than probably most places. But thank you for sharing how to transition once it FINALLY decides to cool off. It’s often hard to find transition pieces that look like fall but are cool enough for the temperature outside!

    1. Fall can’t come soon enough for me! Thank you for commenting. 😊

  56. ‘Don’t stir the pot’!
    Great reminder~

  57. Thanks for sharing your chili recipe. I’m always looking for a good one!

  58. Today’s post is my reassurance that white jeans can be worn after Labor Day. Will wear mine this year without fear of the “fashion police” coming after me.

  59. The white pants/denim jacket is my favorite look. Thanks for all of the large purse suggestions!

  60. To answer your question, No….white goes in the closet at Labor Day and doesn’t come out again until the next Easter. The same with seersucker and most bright pastels. I live in upstate SC and that was the “rule” I learned when I worked at a high end department store in college. I am not a big fan of white any time of year. I HATE white denim. I like crisp white capris or shorts, but I think white makes most women look fat. At our age, belly fat is already an issue….white just exaggerates it.

    1. Teresa, we are going to have to agree to disagree on this point. Lol!

  61. Julie M Whiting says:

Sorry should have kept reading below. Thanks!

  62. Bonnie Hoover says:

Thank you for the great white pants after Labor Day ideas! I appreciate that your examples are very “doable”!

  63. Julie M Whiting says:

    Good morning, Tania

Thanks for all of the styling ideas.

Would you mind sharing your Dad’s chili recipe? I’m also embracing fall and would love a new chili recipe.

Hope you & your family have an enjoyable Labor Day.

    Julie

  64. You look so adorable in all these styles! Happy Wednesday❤️

  65. I love white pants. These styles all look great on you!

  66. Great post! I wear white jeans all year…we winter in Southwest Florida where the average winter temp is around 84 degrees so my former fashion rules are out the window! I love the polo sweater, does it seem to run true to size? They don’t have my normal size and wondered if I should size up or down? Those navy mules are gorgeous! I think I might “need” those!
Also just wanted to mention that I love your new blog format…so easy and encourages me to read more than one post😊

    1. Sharon, I’m so glad you’re enjoying the new format. It has taken awhile to get it down-pat, but I’m loving it now too. The polo sweater was a little large on me, a medium would have probably fit better.

  67. I like all the combinations you styled especially with cognac or raffia. I never heard black shoes make feet look bigger. I was always told it was white shoes. I’ve known women who won’t wear them for that reason. The black mules are cute.

  68. We were just talking about this at work. I have them all following you! We said Tania said we don’t have to put away our white jeans! 😂

  69. Love the Denim and White together!

  70. I love the mushroom colored shell – reviews say that it runs short. What do you think? Thanks!

    1. Tess, I didn’t think so. It might not be considered long, but I wasn’t tugging at it.

  71. Oh my you do such a good job putting outfits together! Wish you could help me with my overflowing wardrobe!

  72. I love white jeans and may have to add the ones you are wearing to my wardrobe. Love that they are stain resistant. Also I have to get that pretty chambray shirt putting that in my bag as we speak.

    1. I hope it works for you!😊

  73. I love Chico’s jeans, fit is great and the fabric is so comfortable!

  74. Galene Morris says:

Could you leave a link to belts? I enjoy wearing them, but am not always sure about style.

    1. Galene, unfortunately I was wearing old belts and they are no longer online.

      1. I’ll put away my white pants and jeans next week. It’s too ingrained in me that it’s summer clothing. Even styled with fall colors, it seems bright and throws me off. Ha! My solution is my off white jeans. For whatever reason that feels less summery. I love the option because they’re so versatile, and I can’t make myself wear white white. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I love the chambray with white jeans! I wear that all summer (actually look forward to it each spring). Since I’m cold all the time and restaurants and other places are cold, I wear it and just roll the sleeves.

  75. Dana Smithmier says:

I love white jeans and im not scared to wear them any time!!

  76. Deb Lacey says:

Thank you for the styling tips! I am hesitant to wear white after Labor Day, but you have convinced me that it works!! Thank you.

  77. Deb Lacey says:

I LOVE the ideas of wearing white after Labor Day! Thank you for sharing some wonderful styling ideas with us!

  78. Love love the chambray shirt with the white pants and brown accessories! Do you want to share your chili recipe?

    1. Wendy, I share dad’s recipe all the time. It is too good not to share. Lol! You’ll get a kick out of the final instructions which mention this is for family members only. Haha! I consider all my GURLS family, so here it is. James Lewis Chili

  79. Agree Tania, love white pants for fall!!! And love that flats are trending, just ordered three pair, black semi wrap open toe from Sole Society, a cognac closed toe sandal style and leopard print bow tie mules, so I’ll be set for fall!!! Yeah me!!!

  80. Kari Nunn says:

I live in Fl so I always want to wear white jeans. Wasn’t sure it was appropriate.

  81. Large handbags are so ME… love to see they are in.

  82. Elaine Cray says:

I LOVE all your choices of various tops and accessories that you chose to wear with white jeans. I too thought I couldn’t wear my white jeans after Labor Day and now am excited to show my white jeans off year round!

  83. Pleased please share your chili recipe! 😋😋

    1. Of course!!! Let me know if you try it. James Lewis Chili

  84. Very pretty floral top!

  85. I probably won’t wear white pants for fall but I do love a light gray.

  86. Love the belts! Can you give info on those? Great outfits today!

    1. Estella, they are old, so I don’t think they are online any longer.

  87. Janice Wooldridge says:

I like the white with the denim!

  88. Kathy Seibert says:

I just scored that cute raffia polo shirt at J. Crew for only $20 with free shipping. I am so excited! I can’t wait to pair it with my jeans.

  89. Darn it! I wanted to go at least three days without ordering something I’ve seen you style. But I didn’t make it. The leather crossbody bag got me.

    1. Cathy, that made me snicker. Lol!!!

  90. Thank you for the styling tips for wearing white after Labor Day! I moved to NE Florida last September but was so immersed in the move and new locale that I wasn’t concerned with what to wear. Now I am! I am sad that the J. Crew polo sweater is sold out. I love it!

  91. Kelly Brooks says:

I think you may have. I have never worn white after Labor Day but these outfits are so cute. Momma please forgive me. 🙂

    1. Lol!!! Kelly, your comment made me laugh.

  92. Ann Pavlicek says:

I love all the white jean styles today. I’m anxiously waiting for fall since it has been so stinking hot here in Texas. Praying for much needed rain, too.

  93. Alicia Wilson says:

Will you share your chili recipe?

    1. Sure, Alicia. Let me know how you like it. James Lewis Chili

  94. Kathy Seibert says:

Yes, you convinced me to keep wearing my white jeans, but update them for a transitional look. I especially like them with the beige tops. I guess I need to buy a top now! Thank you for helping me expand my wardrobe.

  95. Lori Lorenzini says:

Love everyone of those looks and I am excited to know I can still wear while after Labor Day!

  96. Love the fall colors with white jeans!
