HOW TO WEAR A KIMONO WITH JEANS
Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to take on this coming week. My weekend was busy and tiring, so I am still trying to recover. While I “should” have stayed home and combated some of the mess that my house is in, instead, I opted to go on a one-day road-trip to Charlotte, NC. This was an adventure that I couldn’t say no to.
My Energizer Bunny Friend called me Thursday night to see if I wanted to go with her to Ikea in Charlotte. She was going to purchase a hutch for her dining room and thought that I might want to go on with her. I had only been to Ikea once before, and it was so overwhelming that I ended up leaving with only a skillet. Lol! It is a four-hour drive for us, so we left at 5:00 am so that we could be there by the time that the store opened. The store opened at 10:00, and even though we arrived at about 9:25, there was already a line that extended around the corner of the building. I was armed with my Lilly Pulitzer mask, alcohol wipes, and plenty of hand sanitizer, so I felt like I was prepared.
However, nothing can prepare you for the sheer amount of emotions once you step inside. If you have a squirrel brain like mine, then you’ll find so many pretty distractions that you will end up leaving with a skillet. I didn’t have anything in mind to purchase this trip, but I did still manage to buy a couple of things. This time I bought a curtain rod, an over the sink mesh strainer, two wisks, and two entrance rugs. I took a ton of photos of things that I might want in the future so that I could show Joe. He has even agreed to take a trip to Ikea with me soon; won’t that be fun? Hahaha!!!
These Lilly masks come in a set of three. This was the first time that I have worn the masks, and I loved them. I saw that the reviews were mixed on these, and some people complained because the material can be “sucked” into your mouth when you take breaths. Yes, I did notice that could happen, but since I wasn’t gulping air, it never bothered me. What I loved was how tightly the mask fit against my face and how my blue-light glasses didn’t fog up. Plus, the straps on the mask are adjustable, which was a big help. The masks were a winner for me, but I know that everyone is different. Lilly also has pleated masks, and they also come in a set of three.
A real kimono robe is a Japanese garment that is usually tied with a broad sash. The fashion industry has embraced the kimono, and I feel like it is a blend of a poncho and a ruana. I love the big oversized style of a kimono because it hides a ton of imperfections. A kimono also adds drama to your look, and it is an easy way to take a t-shirt and jeans and make them look spectacular. You can wear a kimono with jeans, dresses, knee boots, or swimsuits, which makes it a very versatile wardrobe item. I wanted to show all of you how you can wear a kimono tied (like here) or wear it open and loose. Either option is excellent, and it depends on the look that I want to achieve on how I decide to style it.
I bought this kimono from Walmart because I wanted a solid color kimono that I could wear this fall. A lot of my kimonos are floral and look too summery, and I thought that a solid colored one would be easier to style with my fall wardrobe. Free People has some gorgeous kimonos on their website. There is a huge price range, so keep looking until you find the perfect one for you. I’ll link to some kimonos that will be perfect for fall, and I’ll also show you a couple of posts where I’ve worn kimonos in different ways.
How To Add A Kimono To Your Outfit
There are times when I like to change things up, especially when it comes to my hair. A headband is not something that looks good on me, but they are the latest rage, so I thought that I would show one to you. This was one that I picked up at Walmart the other day, and it is the kind that has elastic in the back so that it is adjustable. The headband that is on-trend is the slip-on style. You will find those with ornamental decorations or a turban style knot. And, you can even get the crochet-type, which will be perfect for winter to keep your ears warm in style.
Straight leg jeans are really in style this year. I love straight-leg jeans, but I am not a big fan of wide-leg jeans. I think that the stovepipe or wide-leg jeans make my legs look even bigger than they are already. Lol! I don’t need any help in that department. I cuffed these jeans today so that you could see the booties better, but usually, when wearing these boots, I would not have cuffed them. This is a pair of straight-leg jeans by Time and Tru, and these are on clearance. However, the sizes are minimal, so I’ll link to some similar jeans and keep them under $50.
Taupe is one of my favorite colors for booties. I like the soft neutral color since it will go with so many things. This pair of booties from Time and Tru has a modern 1 1/2” chunky block heel, which is all of the rage this year. A block heel is more comfortable to walk in and makes you feel much more stable than a thinner heel. This style and height heel should work for most of you.
My v-neck sleeveless top is an essential building item. This is the type of clothing that is not glamourous or memorable, but they are a great supporting item. You can wear a top like this under jacket, blazers, or cardigans, or you can choose we wear them by themselves. You know how I love items that are versatile and can be worn in multiple ways. I featured the black version of the top on this post, and you gurls must have bought them out since there are only a few left in stock. I am wearing a medium in the top, and it fits me great. Here are a few more for you to choose from.

Love the outfit and the headband.
Cute outfit. The headband looks great on you.
Thanks, Patti!
Did you ever look at all the IKEA hacks on Pinterest? If Joe is handy (my husband is not!) you may get him to put together some awesome storage pieces! Love those headbands! You look great!
I started looking at them, and they were almost as overwhelming as the store. ???? I’ll look again once I have a better idea of what I am looking for.
Great post and that headband looks adorable on you!
I’m glad that you liked the look.

Hummmm, everyone seems to love the headband. ????????♀️ Who knew???
LOVE the headband. I like your hair off your face. You are awesome.
Thanks! I loved how different it looked, but I am still not sure about the look because of my thick hair.
Very cute outfit today! It takes jeans and a tee up a notch for sure! Love the headband, I have always been a fan!
You make me want to visit Ikea again, it’s been years since I have braved the crowds and lines!!!!!
I am taking Joe to Ikea the next time. He will love the functionality of all their items. I hardly ever wear a headband because my hair is so thick. I always feel like it is in a big poof when it is pulled back. ????
