HOW TO STYLE A PONCHO FOR A CASUAL FALL LOOK

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A PONCHO FOR A CASUAL FALL LOOK | FASHION OVER 40There are two types of people in this world — the ones who have already decorated for Christmas, and the ones who wait until after Thanksgiving. Oh wait, I guess there are three types, and the 3rd type is the ones who don’t decorate for Christmas at all. I fall into a fourth category, the kind who doesn’t take their Christmas tree down at all. Lol! I swear, this year I am going to take my tree down after the first of the year. Now I am going to have to think of something that I can put in that corner. Haha! 50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A PONCHO FOR A CASUAL FALL LOOK | FASHION OVER 40I am getting in the Christmas spirit this year, and I even went shopping for a few presents on Sunday afternoon. My daughter-in-law and I drove the 1 1/2 drive to our nearest shopping mall, and we loaded up on clothing and a few toys. We left Emersyn at home with her daddy so that we could buy her a few things without her around. She called us at least ten times while we were shopping and kept giving us suggestions. Lol! Have you started your shopping yet, or are you going to wait until Black Friday to do it all at once?50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A PONCHO FOR A CASUAL FALL LOOK | FASHION OVER 40 I loved this poncho as soon as I saw it online. I still love buffalo plaid, but I really like this plaid style for fall and winter. The large cowl neck is more flattering to me than a tight neck, but you might have a different opinion. This poncho is perfect for Christmas or a football game. It is very versatile, and it will look great with jeans. Because a poncho is roomy and flowy, air can get up under it, making you chilly. So, to fix that problem, I always try to wear a t-shirt or camisole under the poncho and tuck it into my pants. Problem solved! This poncho is from Talbots (link), and here are a couple more that I really like.

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A PONCHO FOR A CASUAL FALL LOOK | FASHION OVER 40I have no idea where I purchased this tassel necklace. It is something that I have had for a long time. But, you can purchase a pair of cute druzy stud earrings in black that will go with almost anything. They are called the Kellyanne, and they are only 1/2 inch round. The magnetic silver bracelet with the black crystals is the Essie. I love that the crystal catches your eye as you move. This style bracelet is really easy to put on and take off, which is perfect for anyone with arthritis.

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A PONCHO FOR A CASUAL FALL LOOK | FASHION OVER 40Here is a good look at my Marc Fisher black ankle boots with the silver buckle trim. I have had these boots for a long time also, but I always drag them out each fall. The pointed toe helps to elongate my legs, and even though I have long legs, they can still use all the help that they can get. The longer your legs look, the thinner they appear. This style of ankle boot looks great with jeans as well as with dresses, so they are very versatile.

I get it, I was a little hesitant also when I first bought them, but I am really starting to warm up to them. If you like the look of the outfit but are still on the fence about the faux leather leggings, maybe you might like a different style legging. Here are a couple of other options for you. My leggings (here) are by Spanx, which are great at holding you in and hiding any dimples you might have. I am wearing a size large for sizing reference.

Love the poncho! I just bought a block oversized cowl neck sweater at kohls! I really like it, wonder if I should get a bigger size so it’s really slouchy, not sure! BTW, I’m pretty much finished shopping!

  2. Love the look. I love red & black. (My school colors, but not why I like them so much.) I have some leggings but I don’t wear them in public very often. I feel “exposed”, I think. I wear slacks or jeans mostly. (So I don’t have to wear pantyhose! And I am very uncomfortable with bare legs.)
I am almost finished with Christmas shopping. I try to start in January so my “budget” isn’t hit so hard this time of year. And I really don’t like to shop. I love to LOOK…& usually find lots of stuff, but I hate shopping under pressure.
Love hearing from you each day.

Great look Tania! I do have a red hooded cape that I will now pair up with black leggings. Happy Anniversary to you and Joe! Thanks for showing us different ways to wear leggings. I’ve been wearing mine for a while now after my Multiple Myeloma diagnosis and they are very comfy for me. I enjoy looking at all of the outfits that you post as I look for something similar to wear that I may have in my closet. Enjoy your day Tania and be safe!

Beautiful poncho, but I must admit to sticker shock.

    1. I know, Elizabeth! I love Talbots, but some of their clothing is pricey. I try to watch for sales. And, that is why I linked to other similar versions.

  5. I have one word…HOT!! You are styling the leather leggings in ways that are totally rocking!! Hope you’re enjoying the conference.

    1. Beverly, you are a hoot!

    I absolutely love this outfit!

    1. I am glad that you are loving this series.

  7. I love the whole look on you. Red is definitely your colour.

    1. I love red now, but I never wore it when I was younger.

  8. Susan Stancliff says:

Love these leggings! Are they the spanx brand? Any sizing suggestions? Christmas decorations go up the weekend after thanksgiving. I have started shopping but with 11 grandbabies I have a lot more to do!!

    1. Wow! Susan, you have 11 grandbabies! That is awesome. Yes, my leggings are the Spanx brand, and I am wearing a size Large.

  9. LOVE this look! You look amazing!!!!

  10. Tania, you look great, I don’t know about the poncho on me, but everything would be great! Although I don’t decorate until after Thanksgiving, I am almost done Christmas shopping…..weird. I know.

    1. Mary, I am just now starting to shop. Lol!

  11. I like the whole look and never tire of that style of bootie. I just bought another pair this season!

    1. I think this style of bootie is so classy.

Love this look on you. Personally, I don’t like the leggings for me. You rock them! I have a similar poncho I bought from Glamour Farms Boutique last year. Fyi, ohmygosh! Your eyelashes are beautiful!

    1. Pam, you can still get the same look by choosing a pair of black leggings or knit pants. The eyelashes are something that you can have also. Lol! R+F lashes for life!

  13. Tania, this poncho is gorgeous! I don’t own a poncho and this is the first one that has me thinking…maybe. We shall see. I do like the pairing of this poncho with black leggings, although I confess that I’m not a fan of faux leather leggings. Period. They remind me of scuba gear even though I know they are fabric. I would pair with either ponte knit or faux suede leggings. Same general look without the sheen. Overall, this look is a winner and I’m enjoying your post highlighting the versatility of leggings.
Also got a kick out of yesterday’s oversized sweater from years back. I knew someone who owned it and wore it frequently. Your story cracked me up. It is still a lovely sweater and has nice memories for you.

    1. Kathy, I knew that some would not like the sheen of the faux leather leggings. That was part of my drawback also. That is why I linked to some velvet or velour leggings which give you the same “rich” look.

    2. Connie Johnson says:

Tania, you look great and I LOVE this outfit. I love leather leggings and in fact I wore a pair to Church Sunday with a tunic sweater.
Can’t wait to see how you style them tomorrow.

      1. Way to go, Connie! I bet you looked fabulous!
